The bar's open, what's your poison?

So when you go out, or just kick back with friends, what’s your drink of choice?

Mine are -
Beer: Bass Ale and Bud Lite
Wine: Merlot
Mixed drink: Absolut Mandarin/7Up, Chocolate Martini, 7&7

Please be prepared to tell what’s in the mixed drink if it sounds unfamiliar….

Disclaimer: This post is no way advocating the use and/or abuse of alcohol. Those under the legal drinking age, please adhere to the law and refrain from trying these drinks out. Those of you addicted to alcohol, please use the Back button so that I don’t feel guilty about making you fall off the wagon. Those of you not addicted, but your friends might call you a lush, remember – everything in moderation…Those of you who don't drink, feel free to disclose what you do like to drink when you go out with your drinking friends - who knows we might try it :D. Finally, be responsible and don't drink and drive. Whew, got all that!?!

sigmagrrl 09-18-2002 12:35 PM

When I do drink, it's frozen ice cream drinks at TGI Friday's: Strawberry Shortcake, Barnamint Bailey's. I actually like Citrona, also. If none of the above are available, Midori sour or whiskey sour will do.

AOX81 09-18-2002 12:42 PM

Fuzzy Navel or Midori Sour please!!

dzrose93 09-18-2002 12:42 PM

I love the disclaimer, chicagoagd. ;)

I don't really have a "favorite" drink. It really all depends on where I am and my mood at the time.

Since it's football season, I'll most likely be drinking Miller Lite if watching the college games on TV and having a Fuzzy Navel or glass of wine if I'm tailgating. :)

chideltjen 09-18-2002 12:44 PM

I enjoy fuzzy umbrella drinks... that's what i call them at least. Y'know, the kind that resemble shlushees when they don't have alcohol in them. So basically the mixed drinks at Fridays or Applebees.
But i can't avoid a good white wine. And my new drink of choice: vanilla twist vodka with diet coke. it's "vanilla coke" with a bang and the nutrasweet in the diet coke gives a small kick in the end.

valkyrie 09-18-2002 01:59 PM

LOL at the disclaimer -- are you an attorney?? :D

My drinks of choice are either good beer or cider, which to me means anything like Black Dog Honey Raspberry, or an India Pale Ale or Woodchuck or Woodpecker cider. If not beer, I'm partial to a nice wine, probably a shiraz or merlot. Mixed drinks and I don't go too well together because they're often too strong and they are known to result in me sitting drunkenly at a bar by myself buying a bottle of Cristal and sharing it with complete strangers.

AOIIBrandi 09-18-2002 02:07 PM

-Bloody Marys for early afternoon football games...
-Vodka Cranberry when I feel like a sophisticated mixed drink.
-A nice Shiraz or Merlot is good anytime
-A good chanpagne is also always good - Veuve Cliquot, Dom or Cristal when I can get it :D
-Vanilla Vodka and Coke has become a large part of my evenings out lately.

BTW, anyone who likes the "vanilla coke" should try a liquor called Das Comet and coke. Das Comet is Vanilla Schnapps made by the same people as Rumplemintz, and also like 100 proof. VERY good, but hard to find at a bar. I know Dave and Buster's has it...

Dionysus 09-18-2002 02:12 PM

Everclear w/ a shot of apple juice! :D

Wow! You have $$ to blow like THAT? LOL. What bar do YOU go to? (I want some free Cristal, lol)

Ah, a timeless topic...

My favorites:

Long Island Iced Tea
Kamikaze
Vodka n Cran
Amaretto Sour
Cosmo

And Dionysus, I thought you didn't drink! See? Turn 21, and look what happens, lol. :D

AlphaSigLana 09-18-2002 02:20 PM

Well I love long island ice teas, fuzzy navels, rum and coke, as well as scredrivers. I drink Coors lite, Equiza, and Corona as well and when it is my guy friends time to buy alcohol they go for the cheap-Natural Ice- which has a higher alcohol content than other beers.
I tried a drink at Chilli's called Calypso something---it was so good!!

xo_kathy 09-18-2002 02:22 PM

At the bar, Stoli Rasberry and Soda, or Cosmos if my wallet is big that night! Although, at Tiki Room in NYC they serve a yummy Berry Champagne - champagne and fresh berry puree! Mmmmm

With dinner, a nice peppery red wine...

Yup, I went from a "virgin" drinker, to drinking everclear ;)......I was joking. :p

33girl 09-18-2002 02:24 PM

Beer: Hoegaarden or (duh) Rolling Rock

Mixed: Bloody Mary, but it has to be made PROPERLY - none of this "throw cheap vodka in a glass of Mrs. T's" mess.

I'm not really a wine drinker, although the way this day has been going I'm ready for some Boone's in a paper bag.

jess_pom 09-18-2002 02:25 PM

I need a new drink for happy hour... it has to have 1 bottom shelf liquor in it... I'm tired of Vodka/Tom Collins, fuzzy navels and rum and coke.... Any ideas?

Cocktail - G&T

Dinner - definitely wine...I'm especially partial to Shiraz.

Beer - Goose Island Honker's Ale (a Chicago thing) or Woodchuck cider (not really beer, I know)

Tailgating - my "special" apple punch (hot apple cider, sour apple schnapps, butterscotch schnapps)...mmm...is it football season yet? :)

"Let's pretend we're freshman again" - amaretto sour, captain and coke

sororitygirl2 09-18-2002 04:00 PM

Someone who actually likes Three Wise Man?! I am amazed... that is so foul. Try it on the "wild side" with some Wild Turkey thrown in.

LOL! I don't have $$ like that (I did a little more in my previous life where I had a job that actually paid). All I can say is that alcohol, credit cards and I should NEVER, I repeat NEVER be allowed in the same room. Eeek, that was a scary, scary bill!

alphaiota 09-18-2002 05:05 PM

oh i hear that. i've pretty much maxed out my cards mostly from doing bar tabs. to this day i'm paying for those nights of fun. thank god it's not with a hang over.
oh yeah, i didn't say three wise men was good, it just gets you messed up quickly. i'll have to try it with wild turkey.

also, another great drink, especially for winter, is hot apple cider with a shot of captain morgan's rum. it's incredible.
and my champagne of choice, which may sound cheap, is martini and rossi asti spumante.

Optimist Prime 09-18-2002 08:46 PM

I want to beer bong a six pack and pass out in my driveway. Shots of jack and coke, in those little chaser glasses. Oh yeah. But beer in the bottom instead of chaser and make a mini-boiler maker.

jonsagara 09-18-2002 09:00 PM

Newcastle, Bud, Coors, etc.
Jack & Coke

I'm a pretty simple man. :)

SSS1365 09-18-2002 09:19 PM

I just turned 21 3 months ago, so I'm fairly new to the bar scene... not that I never went to bars before I turned 21 ;)

Beer: Miller Lite or Newcastle
Not beer but not liquor: Woodchuck cider or Cider Jack
Mixed: Long Beach, Midori Sour, Blue Motorcycle
Shots: Jose Cuervo... I like 'em straight, no chasers :)

Nothing like a girl who went to Iowa sitting at the bar, poppin' Cris like Jay-Z . . . word, h to the izzo

Anyway - If we're drinking off the top shelf, then we're going to do it right:

-Grey Goose, ice
-JD Single Barrel, up
-10 and tonic

If we're drinking good beer, give me free Newcastle and I'm a happy boy (also in the running: Bass, Sam Summer, Harp)

Word!

Shots of Parrot Bay
ANYTHING Captain Morgan

I also forgot to mention SoCo earlier...gotta love it!

AOIIBrandi 09-18-2002 10:31 PM

If we're gonna be freshmen again it would have to be...

-Zima with a Jolly Rancher in it (preferably cherry)
-Icehouse

aephi alum 09-18-2002 10:43 PM

Mixed drink: A very dry martini straight up with a twist, or a margarita (authentic, none of this mixer cr@p)
Wine: Merlot or cabernet. If the meal calls for a white wine, sauvignon blanc. I won't touch chardonnay with a barge pole, too sweet :p
Beer: Harpoon IPA, Bass, Harp, Guinness

xok85xo 09-18-2002 11:20 PM

really depends on my mood but..

beer/cider: corona w/lime, ace pear cider

mixed drinks: grey goose capecod, stoli razz & cranberry, vanilla stoli & coke, peach stoli & cranberry, redbull & vodka, stoli & pineapple(new favorite)

i don't really like or do shots but if/when i do

kamikazees, hot flashes, red headed sluts(i think thats what they're called) and surfer on acid are all good

Fewdfreak 09-19-2002 01:09 AM

Beer: Plain old Budweiser (not light--bleech), Heineken, or Corona
Wine: White Zin
Shots: Bacardi Limon and OJ
Mixed: Martini or a Cosmopolitan. (I like to think that I'm Sarah Jessica Parker) Coke and Smirnoff Vanilla Twist.

I've also had this drink that has a liqueur and a shot of Red Bull and you drop it into the glass and guzzle it all. It was good, but I've only tried it once because I refuse to mix caffeine or ephedrine or whatever Red Bull contains with alcohol because that will screw you up fast and mess with your heart rate/cause arrhythmia, etc... My friend went to the ER because she mixed uppers and downers, and was incoherant after a few glasses of wine. Scary stuff.

Not a big drinker though, but that's because I've been the desi for like three years, and I'm just getting used to not having to cart people around, so I get to drink occasionally.

alphaiota 09-19-2002 04:55 PM

i've had that drink before. i think they are just called shooters. it's a shot of jagermeistre and red bull. they taste great, but you're right, you need to be very careful when mixing redbull with alcohol. redbull is not meant for that, but it sure tastes great.

sororitygirl2 09-19-2002 05:10 PM

As I am sure y'all know, different bars ofen have different names for the same drinks. However, the shot of Jager dropped in Red Bull is usually called a Depth Charge (just in case you ever want to order one)!

chicagoagd 09-19-2002 05:16 PM

I drank a Darth Vader (long island ice tea with a shot of Jagermeister on top) all the time in college, it would last me all night and I'd be feeling all right.....:D Tastes like grape juice.

Jaggergirl 09-19-2002 05:39 PM

get your drink on

I'm an uncomplicated girl.

Give me a vodka tonic any time and I'm set.

Angelic 09-19-2002 05:57 PM

Hmm... let's see...

Beer: Blue Moon, Corona, and Coors Light (since I live in Golden)

Mixed Drinks: Stoli Razz and Sprite, Amaretto Sour, Gin and tonic

Shots: Purple hooter, Surfer on acid, and kamikazees are are all good and cheap!

"Let's pretend we're freshman again"

Anything Captain Morgan or Bacardi
Keystone Light!

ladyj39 09-19-2002 06:22 PM

Beer: Red Hook, Corona, Stella Artois, whatever's on tap

Shots: Lemon Drop, Kamikaze, Washington Apple, Jamesons straight up

Mixed Drinks: Captain and Coke, Mandarin Red Bull (when I need a little kick), Baybreeze

** My nickname is FDP because I used to always down a Flaming Dr. Pepper with the best of them! I also used to do Irish Car Bombs, Mmmm... :D

ADPi~Ally 09-19-2002 06:49 PM

I'm all for hard alcohol HEHE :)

My drinks of choice are long island ice teas (the stronger the better), kamakazis, vodka, tequila shots, midori sours, amareto sours, purple hooters, jack and coke. I don't do beer.

KSigkid 09-19-2002 06:54 PM

Beers: Harpoon (especially UFO), Newcastle, Guinness, and Blue Moon are the favorites, with Killians and Red Hook up there too.

Mixed drinks: Jack and Coke son, and don't spare the Jack
If I'm being adventurous, I'll try a scotch on the rocks.

Collin

That's my kind of drinker! :D

Munchkin03 09-19-2002 07:40 PM

I'm a complete and total alcohol snob--I don't do beer that much, and when I do, it's an import. When I'm out, I'm partial to gin fizzes and Grateful Deads. I have no idea what's in the Grateful Dead, but I can't taste a drop of alcohol. I like Goldschlager, Black Haus, and Jagermeister.
