What's your latest *splurge*?

Hi girls!

There's nothing I like better than to hear about others' shopping expeditions.

So what's YOUR latest splurge?

XOXO,
Annie.

Hootie 09-16-2002 01:40 AM

Because I left Austin like a bat outta hell...I also left a lot of key things there that aren't shippable (if that's a word).
So on Wednesday last week I bought myself a bottle of perfume worth $75.00. I bought Ralph Lauren's "Glamorous". I was debating between that and Romance, but I figured I go with the newest!

MMMMM do I love it!

Being the poor college student that I am I can't afford large purchases right now but I have long hair (just past my elbows) and I take excellent care of it. I had almost full bottles of shampoo but I wanted to try that ReNewal X5 stuff so I bought that as well as some infusium stuff and stuff to make my hair shinnier. I could spend soooo much money on my hair.

I am in the midst of re-doing my bedroom. I loooooooove Pottery Barn so I ordered a duvet cover, 2 sets of sheets, bed shirt, 2 european shams, 2 regular shams and this awesome blanket from there. Also, a shower curtain that matches the duvet cover, a bathroom rug and 12 each bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths. Oh, and a wicker hamper and liner that matches the bed skirt. And I am having new curtains made. Then I bought some paint that matches all the other stuff because I was going to paint the bedroom but I just can't motivate myself because I hate to paint so I hired a painter. Wait, one more thing! Well, two actually. They had these gorgeous wrought iron bed tables with marble tops ON SALE at Bombay Company so I bought two of those. My room's gonna be really pretty! But I definitely am trying not to think about how much it all cost me

The 32 inch TV I bought for the new apartment on Frat Row.

KillarneyRose, I need you after I do this post--

I don't know why, I'm not depressed or anything..and I haven't splurged in a while..but I spent a little over a $150 restocking my makeup supply at MAC. :(

Now I need to make sure I've got enough $$$ to fund my trip to California for November.

Shine 09-16-2002 08:50 AM

Two trips to LA this summer, staying only in the nicest hotels, and having bought an entire new vacation wardrobe.

:o

I paid for 24 active member pins for the girls in my sorority. Some day I might get reimbursed for them...

M&M 09-16-2002 09:56 AM

Aaahhhh.... nothing like a good shopping thread!!!!:D :D :D

Throughout college and for a while after graduation, I had jobs that looked great on my resume, but the pay was AWFUL. In January, I finally landed a great job with a great salary!! Since I am neither a wife nor a mother, I just have myself to support, and I have had a lovely time splurging!

I recently returned to my alma mater to visit some good friends from college, and while I was there, I did some mega shopping. I spent a small fortune at the University Bookstore, buying an elaborate diploma frame (gotta have something nice to display that really expensive piece of paper!), nifty stuff for my office emblazoned with the university crest, and lots of university shirts and jackets and stuff (my current beau is an alum of my school's rival, so we have a fun rivalry going on!).

My most recent big purchase though is a car. I bought my first car over the weekend!!!! I had driven the same small vehicle for six years, and it really had seen better days. It needed a lot of work, so I finally broke down and purchased a new vehicle! I am now the proud owner of a beautiful 2002 Nissan Altima.

You are a sweetheart!

My latest splurge was about two weeks ago. I purchased a black Coach Hamptons Carryall. I have been ckecing them out for a while and I convinced myself that this would be great for fall, so I bought it! :D

MoxieGrrl 09-16-2002 11:02 AM

Weekly manicures and pedicures.....and a PS2 with a couple of games & DVDs for my fiance's b-day :)

valkyrie 09-16-2002 11:12 AM

I bought one of those darn Isabella Fiore handbags. I tried to resist for as long as I could, but I just couldn't. I am a handbag addict and need serious help. Darn Neiman Marcus for giving me a charge card. They are enabling me to further my addiction.

I'm here for you, OTW!!! As a recent MAC devotee, I feel that I am well qualified to counsel you on this issue.

A few weeks ago I discovered at Nordstrom the wonderful MAC Anniversary Palates; little pocket sized palates of 6 eyeshadows and 2 blushes or 8 lip colors. So of course I did what any self-respecting spendaholic would do, I bought BOTH! (along with the cute little carrying case, of course)

Know what I discovered? MAC lasts and lasts and lasts! It outlasts my Clinique stuff, outlasts my Lancome, outlasts my Stila. So, my dear, by investing in MAC, you are SAVING money!!!

Not to mention, that the colors are fantastic! Where else can you have so much fun for $150.00???

Brava to you for being a savvy shopper!!

PS Are you and your Army man by any chance coming to the Army-Navy game in December? Hubby and I will be there and I would LOVE to get together if you are!

Honeykiss,
Good splurge, I know the one you're talking about, it's perfect for fall.

I'm doing research for my fall bag purchase right now, and I can't decide what to do. I was looking at the leather Kate Spade bags, but I've been very disappointed in the quality of my kate bags, despite how cute they are. I was going to do a Luis Vuitton, but I'm getting sick of how terribly label conscious everyone is right now. I want something beautiful, of good quality, but that doesn't have a label that screams.

texas*princess 09-16-2002 07:31 PM

My latest "splurge" was not really for me. My younger siblings in high school are raising money for their band trip to Flordia. They caught me on messenger and asked me to buy some stuff from them, so I bought 3 magazine subscriptions to benefit their trip ;) Gosh, I'm such a cool sister :p

33girl 09-16-2002 08:33 PM

R.I.P. Phar-Mor

Since Phar-Mor went out of business recently :( everything was on sale at ridiculously low prices. So I super stocked up on makeup, hair care products, and just about everything else they still had in the store. I know everything I got is useful and I will go through it quicker than I think, but right now my bathroom closet looks a bit excessive. :p

Oh my GOSH! I almost forgot about that. If Mr. Army man can hurry up and get his butt over here from Airborne School, maybe it's a possibility! I know he's dying to go especially since this is his first time away from West Point...but for now he's busy jumping out of planes somewhere in Alabama.

Excelsior301 09-16-2002 09:51 PM

I took my man out to dinner and a movie on a Saturday night, since I was tired of being trapped on campus since we're both poor. Two adult movies tickets and food at The Cheesecake Factory is definitely NOT cheap. I think we'll be trapped on campus this weekend:D

KarenC725 09-16-2002 11:45 PM

Since I'm trying to save for London and I'm unemployed, my splurge wasn't much. I got an expensive haircut, then bought new yoga pants and a top for my class that starts tomorrow.

KappaKittyCat 09-16-2002 11:47 PM

Definitely the tattoo. That's the last big thing I'll be getting for quite a while. Expensive, but damn, was it worth it (and no, my parents still haven't seen it)! School starts soon, which means dues and books and other such expenses. I'll be back to being poor.

annice22 09-16-2002 11:55 PM

I just bought....

I just bought 3 shirts (tonight) on-line for going out, fri a pair of blue jean, a pair of black pants and two shirts, my sorority dues, a sorority license plate, a couple of sorority shirts, make-up, a couple of bills, vcr, tv stand, printer, alcohol, folders, and food. I spent a lot but now I'm going to start saving up my money because I'm not sure if i'm going to the pike homecoming formal.

Bye

Makeup

Is there a difference between different kinds of makeup? My girlfriend buys stuff from Stila and the only reason I know is because she took me to a Stila store where I managed to mess up some sort of dispenser on their wall. But if it's all powder that goes on your face or your lips...how much different can it get?

GASP! My dear Rudey..
When it comes to make-up there are MANY things to consider..

colors
consistency
formula (oily, dry, normal skin)
hip-ness (does it have all the trendy colors)
price
packaging (nothing like a cute compact :) )

oh there are sooo many differences

Yes, I understand your dilemna. I purchased a Fenda Mama handbag (in the traditional double F design) last year and I noticed that this summer that logos(and knock-offs) are the "IT" thing, so i put mine away for a while. Then I needed a replacement, so hence the Coach.

JP Tod handbags are sleek, logo-less and are VERY nice.

xo_sue 09-17-2002 01:25 AM

I just got the silver bead bracelet from Tiffany for my best friend who is also going to be the Godmother of my son. Has anyone seen them- I think they are so neat and everyone is starting to get them around here so I thought I'd tell her thank you in a "blue box" sort a way!

violets 09-17-2002 10:57 AM

Honeykiss:
I feel you on the Fendi bag, however, it is an "investment" purchase. Treat it right and you'll be able to use it again in ten years...or at least sell it as a "vintage" Fendi on ebay.:)
JP Tods is a fabulous suggestion, I had literally not looked at those at all.
Thanks!

Oh my damms. And I thought that my four KS purchases were smart. Because I paid $80, $30, $68 and $60 respectively.

*WHERE* did you FIND these great deals?!

XOXO,
Annie.

What will be my latest splurge ...

Airline tickets to Nashville and St. Louis, the first for a mini-vacation over a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the second trip to go home and see family.

Gotta love southwest.com specials and since rapid rewards credits are doubled online, I will be one flight away from a free flight anywhere. Hmm. I see New Orleans and then Vegas in my future.

Other than that, I splurged on a Dell computer.

Hootie 09-18-2002 01:00 AM

Another splurge confession....
I went tanning tonight. I had bought over 200 minutes sometime last fall. Well since I wasn't LIVING HERE, I forgot all about them. So I go with my sister to the tanning beds and find out they expire TOMORROW...I have like 138 min. left!

So, I bought 250 minutes, the tanning goggles and some lotion...another $79.00 splurge:rolleyes:

The first KS was found at the Nordstrom Rack. When you get to Riverside, even though it will be a long ride, I would check the Racks in Woodland Hills or Costa Mesa. They're the most upscale of the bunch.

The second KS was found at Bloomingdale's in Newport Beach. It was a return and the department manager priced it at $80. When I spotted it, it was on a take an extra 50 percent off, plus I had a 20 percent extra coupon.

The third KS came from a jobber, Costa Mesa Designer Outlet. They buy unsold merchandise from Saks, Neimans, Macy's, Bloomingdales, et al. That one was marked down from $90, even though it was past season. I am not a trendoid, so I don't really care. Besides, I love pink.

The last KS that I paid for came from the Rack in Costa Mesa. A few weeks before, the bag, a wisteria Fe (now discontinued) was $111 in the main store. In the Rack, it was $60.

This doesn't even count the KS for Lilly Pulitzer huge tote I got as a gift.
;)

Gurl, I loves me some Coach bags. I recently got one of my friends hooked on them. The people at the flagship store in New York (57th Street and Madison Avenue) always remember our (my fiance and I) faces whenever we walk up in there.:D I kinda like the Hamptons Carryall - maybe my next Coach purchase - LOL! Gotta start rubbing my pennies together. I also have to save money for a Fendi bag? Does anyone know where I can get one (authentic please, no knock-offs!) for less than retail price? :D

Authentic Fendi, although the selection's limited and tends to be classic logo, can be found at some Loehmann's. I've also seen a handful of baguettes at Off Fifth Saks Fifth Avenue. I swear, I'm not on Off Fifth's payroll despite my obvious enjoyment of the store.

There is a site own by the parent company that sells their bags at a discount price. I think its www.eluxury.com.

Steel Trap, it that the correct address? I recall you mentioning this site a while back.

Steeltrap 09-18-2002 01:37 PM

@Honeykiss

That is the correct site. It has interesting stuff, although I've still not purchased anything yet. I love Michael Kors' designs. :)
