HK1974, I needed this today! And you didn't even know! I have needed some positive reinforcement today, lol, a few things went awry. But I told the devil, it is a done deal. I'm leaving, no matter what obstacles he throws in my way. I'm too excited, and he just tryin' to steal my joy. Yall, I can't even explain my excitement. I've never really done anything like this before. But I always knew I would. Ohio is just not it. I feel like a little kid, lol!

Thank yall for the well wishes!!! :) I was getting discouraged because this mess is not easy. But yesterday, I thanked God for the experience. It's new, and I'm gonna learn so much and come out of this SO much stronger. I'm excited to be able to look back on how I did this.

Lemme tell yall... I was worried that my friend didn't have internet access. I was like, lawd, what I'm gon' do, what I'm gon' do??? But she has it!!! :D So I can still talk to yall! Yay! :p lol

Soror 2D, LOL @ you and your '08 reservations!!! I haven't even thought that far ahead, I'm just geeked for Howard's homecoming! I've never been to a HBCU homecoming. I am so hoping it is in October, lol.

MaMaBuddha 09-10-2002 10:09 AM

hey ideal08....

you are moving to chocolate city were the brothers are fine....uh oh!! :)

and you are in the vicinity of a few HBCU's. so you will tired of the homecoming scene. girl, in october and november there is a homecoming every weekend.

enjoy yourself, i am New Yorker, but you would think i lived in DC as much as i am down there.

there is so much to do and the vibe is great.

Good Luck!!!!

kiml122 09-10-2002 02:44 PM

Congrats!!

I had no idea that you were thinking of moving. Urbane is in DC, she hasn't been on lately because of the job stuff. I was going to try and hook up with her when I was in DC last month, but time got away from me. I'm down that way a lot, friends from college.

Speaking of college, girl wait until you go to an HBCU homeing, there ain't nothing like it. The first time I went to one, was Morehouse back in the day, and I thought I was going to loose my damn mind. :p

Congrats to you once again.

Girl, no one had any idea, really. I wanted to keep the info on lock (i.e., I only told those who could keep a secret, lol) until I knew God said it was ok. Now, I'm not sure what is up with Miss Urbane! I just sent her an email, and her email addy doesn't even exist anymore. :( She need to come back & check the boards, lol. Kim, you let me know when you will be in town next, me, you, and Urbane can all hang out. Ooh, DCGC reunion in the making, lol lol. :)

And MaMaBuddha!!! Now you KNOW you better let me know when you are gonna be in the city!!!!! I am moving for exactly what you said, there is so much to do and the vibe is great. All the fine men don't hurt, either! ;) It will be nice to see more than 10 tall men at once, for a change, lol. I swear, Columbus is the home of short men.

I will probably post to this thread more than anyone else, lol!! I am so excited!!! :D

JJSP01 09-10-2002 04:19 PM

Congratulations Ideal08! You'll love the area...just make sure you buy a really good map of DC so you don't get lost coming and going! :D

I'm in DC alot and I still get lost in some parts!

kiml122 09-11-2002 12:27 PM

Most Def we have to hook up when I come to DC. Speaking of Urbane I got an email from her today. I can't wait to hook up. I love meeting peeps from GC.

Congrats Ideal!!! :D
I know you'll have a wonderful time in DC. You'll definitely have to check out Howard's homecoming! Maybe I'll see you there because I'm definitely coming down! ;) I've been to HBCU homecomings before but never to Howard's. I want to get a feel for their 'experience'. :)
Yall holla at me if you and KLL meet up. I'm always down for get togethers! :p

Dancerella1908 09-12-2002 11:54 AM

Soror Ideal08,

May you have a safe travel to D.C. and may this move to a new place open up a whole new world of wonderful opportunities for you. May the Lord continue to protect you and smile upon you. Congrats.

ClassyLady 09-12-2002 11:14 PM

Oh my goodness!!! I am so happy!!!

Ideal is only going to be an hour and a half away from me. Girl, we have to get together. I'm definitely going to holla at you the next time I go home, whenever that is

You will really like DC. The shopping is great and so are the men-folks.

What prompted the move, love, work, being too far away from CT4, or just a need for new scenery?

Ideal08 09-13-2002 12:05 AM

Soror Dancerella, thank you so much!!!

2D4U, girl, I am tellin you, I feel a DCGC reunion comin on!!! ClassyLady is already down!! :) We are gon' kick it!! I am so happy!!!!! YAAAAAAAY!!!! :D

darling1, me gusta mucho que me hablaste en espanol!! :) Ooh, necesitas decirme que estas haciendo alla... trabajas en un lugar donde puedes hablar espanol? Hablaremos.

JJSP01, girl, I already told my friend to make sure she got me a map and some metro schedules. As long as I can get around, I'm cool. I feel absolutely DEFEATED when I can't get somewhere.

I'm sleepy, I'll post more tomorrow. :p

Urbane 09-13-2002 12:07 AM

what up.. what up...

Ideal, I can't believe you're moving down here... I'm BUTT-SICED!!!! okay.. okay.. gurl you betta call me.. i sent you my info.

Hey girls!!! (waving) i know i've been MIA for some time. I feel like i've either been on the railroad or in da fields... cause they got a sista slavin'. So much so that i don't even have time to write personal emails any more... let alone get on GC. WT*beep*? Ya'll know i'm all about chillin' in the workplace. That's probably what i get, huh?

Anyways... Ideal let me know if there's anything i can do to help. I can't wait... !!!! oh, btw... i'm working on a project..a shirt and it's turning out pretty good.... (freaking it) :D

Can you hook up with a Brother? I'm only four hours away and often in DC. My aunt Marshina is a professor there and I kick it with her all the time. I'll have to invite you over for some Alpha punch.

P.S. Before anyone gives me a hard time, this is just a friendly invite - - - I'm staying out of trouble - lol!!!

Giril, I know I'm late but you know I've been praying for you . I knew you could do it! Go out there and show 'em what you got . I don't think they're ready!:D ;) :p

I'm also happy to hear you're gonna get a taste of a HBCU Homecoming. There's nothing like it. You just gotta get rested and get ready for what's in store for you after Thanksgiving!:p Seeing is believing:D

Just know that the Brat and I are over here rooting for you. I'll hit you up in an email later.

Ideal08 09-13-2002 12:04 PM

Ok, I'm rested and can finish now

Let me just say, I will be glad when this move is all over. I am tired and stressed. But I'm making it.

Classylady, my decision came from a few things, pretty much all that you listed (CT4, please deflate the big head, lol :p), just not the way you meant them, probably. I just needed a new environment. There is no job, yet, but I'm still searching, but I had to let this one here go. And the love also gets left here, hopefully I will find some there, lol, if not, I'm cool with myself. And yes, this will put me closer to CT4 and my spec. All in all, I feel like it is a win/win situation for me!!! :)

People, people, can a sista get a job?!?!? LOL After I find some gainful employment, I will most def be in NYC, Philly, etc. And you KNOW I will let yall know!!! Once I get a job, I can travel and partake in the libation that is Alpha Punch! However, if you are willing to sponsor a sista, I will be able to visit and whatnot whenever! lol :p *sigh* I feel so loved! :D

Heffa Ex, I regret to tell you that there may not be any after Turkey Day festivities for me. If I am settled and secure financially, then I'm still there. But for now, I doubt it.

Time for lunch...

CrimsonTide4 09-13-2002 01:29 PM

What AFTER Turkey Day Festivities?!?!?!!?    BOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

librasoul22 09-13-2002 01:53 PM

Ideal08, be careful in DC, man. Like everyone has mentioned, the shopping, the guys, the homecomings...sigh. I stayed there one summer (and I have been to my share of HBCU homecomings) and trust me, I did NOT want to leave. The only thing that got me was the traffic lights being on the SIDE of the road, lol. They know SO much better than to do that in the south, we run redlights when they are overhead anyway, lol. That was my first encounter with those, til I found there were more cities like that. Oh well, librasoul is a careful driver now (in a fast and furious kind of way).

Anyway, I wish you the best in your job search! It will work out, I just know it. Follow your HEAD ;) and the rest will follow. Also? DC has a great music scene.

KEEP US POSTED! :D

FeeFee 09-13-2002 02:30 PM

2. As a Howard Alumn I can tell you you will have a ball at homecoming.
2. D.C. is a wonderful city and I have several peeps in the area that I visit so put me down for the GC social in DC :) !

Yall, I'm almost done. I just have to pack the rest of my clothes, and I'm done. It is bittersweet, really. Each day, I'm realizing how much I'm going to miss everyone, even the Ex. :o BUT, I am SOOOO excited to just GET THERE!!! But time is flying as it is, so I'll just relax, lol, before tomorrow will be here and I won't be ready to leave.

I will be without my computer from tomorrow until the 23rd when i get there. TRUST it will be the first thing to get set up. Pitiful, I know. :)

For all those who have moved... were you scared as the day approached? I'm scurred, lol. I know I'll be aight, but I'm still scurred. I'm feeling a host of emotions, really. I'm just ret to go.

So she loaded up the Pinto and she moved to DC
Washington, that is.
Politicians taking a sip.
Foreign dignitaries taking a trip.
High tacks and plenty Cadillacs.

DA HAAAAA, DA HAAAAAA, DA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAA

Sugar_N_Spice 09-18-2002 07:45 PM

WOW! I'm gone for a sec and...

...Find out that you're moving!!!! Well, I'm happy for you! You'll like DC. There's a lot to do out there, and you should have no prob getting around. I'll pray that you find a job soon. I know it'll turn out great for you...

Sisterly,
SnS :-)

pointNclick 09-23-2002 10:47 AM

WELCOME TO DC!

Good luck on your upcoming move. As a sisterfriend who has lived here for 2 years now, DC is very interesting.

You will be surrounded by your sorority sisters, so you will be a-okay. But if you just want to chat with someone who moved from a far away place (TN) to DC and "successfully" made the transition, then drop me a note!

Safe journey!

yasava 09-24-2002 10:58 AM

Ideal08...

As a recent Howard Graduate, I know you'll really like DC and especially homecoming. It is from October 11 -- 19 this year. I'm going down there and I can't wait to attend my first homecoming as an Alum. :D

There is so much to do in DC and is very diverse.

Make sure you go to Dream, it's a new club there. :D

I just moved to Fort Wayne, IN so it can be a little scary and nerve-wracking, but also really exciting. I think you'll adjust fine because you've got people looking out for you.

Are you renting a truck? If you are, I hope it's not U-Haul, they gave me the serious runaround the day I was supposed to move and I had to call another company and pay three times as much...

Anyway, good luck on your move...it'll be good.

Ideal08 09-24-2002 01:16 PM

Well, I'm here!

I gotta make sure to change my location on here, lol. :)

No, I didn't rent a truck at all. I left all of my furniture in my apartment, and put everything else that I could fit into my car. I am picking up some more stuff when I go to Ohio for Wittenberg's homecoming. My friend that is taking over my apartment will be buying my furniture, too. God is working it all out.

I am getting settled, though. Haven't even started unpacking yet. I'll get it together. I'll prolly start that task tonight.

SnS, where have YOU been?????? dang, let us know what's goin on with you?

HC I have to hurry up so I can go do my shopping stuh?

My roommate showed me a two mile walk today, so I'll do that this evening. :) It'll give me some time to think. My fool behind left my discman at home.

All in all, I'm just excited to be here. Talk to yall later!! :)

BlueReign 09-24-2002 02:46 PM

you are here?

Oh my! I am just now seeing this. You still have my number? Call me or e-mail me.

We have got to give you a GC Party!

Welcome to Washington!

Robin

BlueReign 09-24-2002 02:49 PM

Oh now I see that you are in New Carrollton! Then you are right around the corner from me. I look forward to hearing from you, girl.

encouraged1 09-26-2002 05:51 PM

Hi! I'm a sisterfriend who went to school in Tallahassee, Florida and I'm preparing to move to DC very soon as well although I've heard it's expensive! I hope to be there in January. I'm looking to talk to other sisterfriends in the area. Take care.
