Lady Pi Phi's Rush from the other side
Woohoo!!!!! We are starting rush in 2 days. I am a newly initiated member of Pi Beta Phi, so this will be my first rush on the other side. I am so excited I can't wait.
Today we had a fundraiser carwash with proceeds going to Links to literacy and Arrow in the Arctic. It was a beautiful day, and I think we were really successful. When even had some girls come buy who seemed interested. I can't wait till rush begins. I'll keep you updated if you'r interested. Pi Phi love and Mine, Emily |
I'm always interested in recruitment threads! Best of luck this week and here's hoping you have a great bunch of new Pi Phis when formal recruitment is concluded.

lady pi phi,
its always great to hear about rush stories from members that are already in a sorority. i had the same experience that you are going through. the end of august we had our recruitment and it was my first time on the other side also. let me tell you it is soooo much fun although it seemed like i was more nervous than the potential members...haha. have lots of fun and keep us updated on everything especially bid day. kayla |
Lady PiPhi,
Good luck with this special time. There's no better feeling than introducing women to a sisterhood that is so meaningful to you. Have a wonderful time and keep us updated! violets |
What is Arrow in the Arctic?

Arrow in the Arctic
Our first info night is tomorrow. i can't wait. I hope we get a lot of girls out. Rush is a little different...actually a lot different. Being that there is only one sorority we don't have to compete for girls. We don't, of course, take just anyone. We have 2 info nights where we talk about Pi Beta Phi, it's history, what we do, our philanthropy, etc., etc. After the info nights we have t rush parties, and the our prefrence party and bid day are on the same night. I just can't wait. It almost seems like tomorrow will never come.
About Arrow in the Arctic, our national philanthropy is Links to Literacy, but we also have a Canadian philanthropy, which is Arrow in the Arctic. Arrow in the Arctic provides culturally relevant books to native children in the Northwest Territories, the Yukon and Nunavut. PPL, Emily |
Emily,
Good Luck with rush!!! PPL, A&As |
Good Luck Emily!!!

I hope you get a great bunch of women!! I think it is so cool that you have a separate Canadian philanthropy...I`ve never heard of Arrow in the Arctic before.
Good luck, Jen |
I am angry, upset and disappointed. Today was a first info night and not one single girl showed up. Our actives were there but not one single PNM. We've postered, painted the cannon, worn our letters. We've done pretty much everything the school will let us. I hate the anti-greek sentiment at my school. I spoke to several girls today who asked about my letters. I told them all about our history, our philanthropy, what a great thing it is. They asked about hazing, I told them there is not one bit of hazing. But still an ignorance or an anti-greek sentiment is present. One girl said to me, "come on, it is all about the parties." I was so frustrated. I told them to come out to info nights and see what we were about. Nothing. Not one girl. We're all very frustrated. Some of us are going off campus, downtown to hand out flyers tonight. We still have one info night tomorrow so hopefully we'll get a few girls out. What else can we do. The school hates us. There was an article in our school paper today talking about hazing during frosh week. The author of the article was just looking on our campus to see if he could find any evidence of hazing during frosh week. There wasn't any. several people he talked to said there was non. He interviewed frosh, and they said there was none. He eventually spoke to a memeber of our student government, and he said that the author should speak to the "frats" (yeah that's the word our elected student rep said...I didn't vote for him) on campus because we're not supposed to be here and we'll know about that stuff. What a dick!!!!!! AHHHHHH....I am so frustrated. What more can we do, when we are so ristricted already.

2nd try
Well I'm just getting ready to leave for school. We're having lunch with the DU's to show off our letters, and let people know we're out there. After yesterday, I hope we get some girls out. Wish us luck. Here goes try #2
|
GOOD LUCK LADY PI PHI!
I can't relate to trying to get members in a GLO since I'm still a PNM, but I'm chair of College Democrats on a small rural campus in a Republican area and it is impossible to get members! Not to mention that at most smaller schools, it's impossible to get people to do anything. Just keep up the positive attitude and I'm sure you'll get some great new sisters! I've heard nothing but great things about your org. and I don't know why somebody wouldn't want to join. |
Best of luck to you and your chapter Lady Pi Phi!
Keep your spirits high |
Em,
I know how frustrated you are with what happened yesterday and I haven't got the update yet about how tonight's info night went. I just wanted to let you know that I know exactly what you're feeling. I'm working with our CPP to see if we can't find a solution to our problem. For all you who aren't aware of our situation, our campus student organization does not recognize us as a club, since we "discriminate" based on gender. To have club status, which allows us the right to poster in rez and campus buildings like the university centre without getting fined, we must accept male and female members. Lack of club status makes recruitment very challenging but we always seem to pull though with the dedication of members like Lady Pi Phi. I have faith in my chapter and I know that all will end well. cherub AAC Chairman, On Gamma |
Today was Better!!!!
Tonight was so much better!!!!! We got 10 girls out to our info night and it was great!! We go ahead with our first rush party tomorrow night. Let's hope some of those girls come out. They seemed interested to me. I can't wait till tomorrow night. It should be a blast!!!
PPL, Emily |
Yay! I'm glad to hear things are looking up! Best wishes for the rest of recruitment!
|
One idea is to offer to pick up or walk with the girls to your event location...sometimes its awkward for the women rushing too!
|
YEAH!! I am so happy you had a better turnout tonight. Good luck and I hope that you find some wonderful new sisters.
Greek Love, Melissa |
Lady Pi Phi, Gee I'm sorry the conditions on your campus are so difficult! I have read so many similar posts lately, yet it's still hard to understand this mentality! It almost sound like these people are taking pride in the destruction of Greeks.
I don't know what to say except all my best to you! |
Best of luck to you and your chapter, Lady Pi Phi! :D
|
I'm so glad things are looking up! Good luck with the rest of recruitment.
|
Sorry it's been so long. I've just been really busy.
We had 4 out of 10 girls come out to our first rush party. Not quite what I was hoping, but it was still better than nothing. We had a picnic. We sat outside and talked about Pi Phi, the actives dicussed some other reasons for joining pi phi, and of course we stuffed our faces!! I'm looking forward to our second rush party on monday. We still have COB so I'm sure we'll get a great pledge class. I'll keep you updated. PPL, Emily |
We just had our second rush party. 2 new girls who were interested came out. Around Guelph, I think word of mouth really works for us, because a few of the girls that came out were friends of already active members. Myabe for some of the girls that are also having trouble with recruitment, maybe you could try rsuhing your friends? Well we have pref on thursday. Wish us luck.
PPL, Emily |
We had our pref party today. It was great. I remember my pref party and I remember feeling really nervous so I am sure our PNM's did too. Nevertheless, I am very excited and it's just so weird to look at things from the other side. I can't wait until pledging. This is my last year at school, and I initiated as a junior last semester. I'm just glad that I was given the opportunity to be a part of Pi Beta Phi. Okay well enough of my rmabling. I just wanted to let everyone know that we just finished pref.
PPL, Emily |
Congrats, I am happy for you. I'm glad it ended up much better than it looked like at the beginning!
|
Good luck to y'all and I can't wait to hear how many cherubs you got!:) :) :)
|
Good luck to you Lady Pi Phi!
|
Lady Pi Phi, Southern rush would blow your mind! I hope every girl you extend a bid to accepts.
|
I really hopes os too. I really want this chapter grow and be strong.
|
I just want to give everyone an update. But we have 5 wonderful new angels!! I couldn't be more excited, and we will be COBing. I am so looking forward to this year.
PPL, Emily |
Yesss! Congratulations to you guys! How many more will you be allowed to take?
|
congratulations on your new angels!!!
best of luck with COB! |
We don't have a quota on our campus because we're the only sorority, so we don't have to compete. We have around 30 girls right now (not including the new members), our goal is to bring our chapter up to 40 girls. We're really small, yes, and it's a long and complicated issue. But I think we can totally bring our chapter up to 40.
Thanks everyone, PPL, Emily |
Congratulations to you, your chapter, and your five new "angels".
All your hard work has paid off in new sisters to carry on your traditions! Congratulations. violets |
Congratulations, Lady Pi Phi! 5 new COB pledges is no small feat, and you and your chapter should be extremely proud! :D
And just think.....if your 5 new angels bring in one friend each.....you'll be at your goal!!! Yeah, Pi Phi!!!! |
congrats to you!!!!!!!!!!!!! yay new sisters!
|
Lady Pi Phi-We don't have a quota on our campus because we're the only sorority, so we don't have to compete.
That's kind of neat. You can HONESTLY say you ALWAYS get the top pledge class on campus! :D |
We're having a COB party on tuesday so I hope we get some more girls out. We're advertising, and word of mouth helps. We now have business cards, so we hand them out to girls we see around campus, and off campus (even though we're not supposed to hand them out on campus because that's soliciting...but I don't think there is anyone from my shitty CSA on this board and if there are, well I think they suck and I didn't vote for any of them...but I did vote!) Okay that's my rant...I'll stop now. They make me bitter
Emily |
Holy opposition, Batman
Emily,
Wow, and I thought Anti- Greek sentiment was bad on my campus! (Sororities were banned from 1944- about 1980) I can't believe your university would unjustly eliminate GLO's as a whole on such flimsly grounds. If they don't want them there, they should state why in a straightforward manner, not beat around the bush with this gender nonsense. Just a question: Do they universially apply the gender rule to sprots teams too? Hmmm... ll, M |
No, they don't apply that to sports teams. We have male teams, and female teams, and there are co-ed temas. I mean girls can't play on the football team, and we don't have womens team...not that I want to play football but I'm sure there are girls that would if we had a team. it's just the left-wing socialist student government we have here...I could go on and on but I won't.
Anyway, we're having a COB party tomorrow and there are apparently 5 interested girls...and their all frosh...or should I say freshmen...anyway I think it's great!!! I am so excited. I hope we can double our pledge class. PPL, Emily |
