UWGirl's Rush Story
Hey, for you guys out there who I've already talked to and for those of you who just love a good rush story, here's another one! Rush is finally beginning at UW-Madison! Last night we had our orientation meeting where we talked about what would be going on during rush and all the rho chis did a cute skit about greek life. We also got to meet our rho chis, and my three seem awesome! :) Sunday, there's an ice cream social for the girls going through recruitment and anyone who couldn't make it Thursday night, and then MONDAY WE FINALLY START FIRST ROUNDS!!! :) I can't wait to find out what house I belong in!!! :) If you didn't see Sugar and Spice's thread, here are the 11 national sororities at UW-Madison: Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Epsilon Phi, Alpha Phi, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Pi Beta Phi, and Sigma Delta Tau.

Best of luck in finding your new "family" :)
Madison's a great school and a great greek system... you made a great choice! |
UWGirl,
Best of luck to you! I'm so happy to have rushees in Madtown. Email or PM me if you need anything and/or want to hang out. And you should really hook up with BadgerRushee and Sugar and Spice. Take a picture and post it or something. It was so fun to have all the UF girls going through together; now the Dairy State gets some lovin', too. Enjoy Langdon St. KKC |
Good luck!

1st Night of First Rounds
Well, I went to my first night of first rounds tonight! We visited four nice houses! I'm doing this in a tactful way which I saw someone (I forgot who) do...I'm just numbering the sororities when I talk about them, instead of naming them, to be fair, so here it goes...
#1 was really cool. For my first house, they helped me relax and not be so nervous. The three girls I talked to were nice and told me about things, including their philanthropy. They also had a great skit! #2 had a really great vibe at their house, with the fun and talented girls. Their skit was pretty humorous though, and even though one of the girls wasn't as easy to talk to, I think the girls were pretty cool. #3 was probably my least favorite out of the night and I probably won't go back there next round. They were nice and claimed they had an excellent cook, but they just weren't as outgoing or easy to talk to as the other houses we visited. #4 was definitely my favorite out of the night, and I could see myself there. They had such an awesome vibe of sisterhood and fun throughout the house and of course their theme was awesome! The three girls were really easy to talk to, so easy that we talked about a lot more than just the whole rush process and "where are you from" etc... I'm excited to see more of the houses tomorrow night! We get to visit three houses tomorrow night. Wednesday we're taking a break for September 11, but we see the other 4 houses on Thursday night...I'll keep ya updated as soon as I learn more! |
Sounds great so far! Have fun and keep us updated:)
|

awww good luck ladies!!
|
I hope you girls had a wonderful time!!!
it will be amazing!! Big Smiles :) love ashley |
Hey Badger rushee...sorry I didn't get the message before now, so I couldn't look for you! If it helps, my name's Nicole :) But anyway...
We visited three houses tonight with a nice ice cream/mexican food break in the middle of it all :) #5 I liked a lot. The girls seemed to be pretty genuine and close, which I liked a lot. Their philanthropy project sounded really fun too. This time I asked questions and did a lot of talking, but I didn't have any problems or really any awkward moments, so that was cool. #6 Upon hearing their entrance music and seeing their decorations, it was eerily similar to #3. The girls seemed nice, but I decided that this sorority wasn't for me. They also don't have a house, which I would really like in a sorority...I later from out from one of my rho chi's that the reason they don't have a house is because they had it taken away for doing bad stuff...oops! #7 I wasn't sure what to expect from this house because someone had told me that the girls were stuck up, but I found it to be the exact opposite! The girls were extremely easy to talk to and very nice! Their skit was cute too and they all seemed really supportive of each other. I think this one might be my favorite of the night tied with #5. We have a break tomorrow for Sept. 11 and then finally the last night of first rounds is Thursday and we fill out a preference sheet then. I'm really excited to find out which ones I'll keep visiting and which ones invite me back!!! :) |
I'm so excited for you and that's odd bc. I'm not a big fan of Recruitment (I loved being a "Rho Chi" last year!), but since my chapter is preparing for recruitment right now and things are going great, it's nice to know that girls are having a good time at recruitment other places.
I've got to tell you though... I'm a little biased, just like everyone else in where it is you're gonna go... Add me on to the G Phi B list... And of course, I'll be watching this thread! Carol Gamma Phi Beta- Delta Lambda- Riverside "I'm a little Gamma Phi, Delta Lambda, Riverside. Everybody smiles at me, that is why I'm a G Phi B!" |
Sounds like you're having a great time! Can't wait to hear more!

Unless you can find conclusive evidence (a news report or something) that verifies this rumor, I wouldn't believe it. Your Rho Chi is not doing her job if she is talking like this. She is supposed to be supportive of all groups, that's her job. |
As always Barb, you make the one point I was thinking immediately. :)

GAMTA! (Great Alumnae Minds Think Alike!) |
While I agree that it wasn't appropriate for the Rho Chi to say about this chapter's house, and that it's probably a rumor (I've lived in Madison my whole life and I can't remember this particular chapter EVER having a house, although granted I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to that when I was younger), the overall vibe that people are getting from this house is kind of sketchy. One girl from this sorority asked a girl in my rush group what her parents did for a living -- I'm not sure if she just didn't know that you weren't supposed to ask questions like that or what, but it was very inappropriate. I also asked my rusher what kinds of things they did for their philanthropy and she couldn't tell me. She just said, "Um, well . . . we basically just raise money for them and stuff."
So regardless of whether or not the house thing is true (and I don't think it is), I do think that she should stick with her gut feeling on this particular group. Side note: this particular sorority originally colonized at our school in the '50s, then disbanded (or whatever the technical term for that is) at some point, I'm not sure when, and recolonized in the early '80s -- so maybe they lost their house after the original chapter lost its charter, and never reacquired a house after recolonizing? Would that make sense? |
Wow...sorry if that little thing about #6 was offensive to anyone. I didn't mean to because I just wanted to share my recruitment experience. Anyway...finally tonight will be my last night of first rounds! We'll visit 4 more houses and then I get to do ranking!!! I guess we will find out what houses we are going back to next week Tuesday, which is the first night of second rounds! I'll post an update when I get home tonight!
|
Good luck with RUSH to you and all the others with you that are on this thread. Just keep an open mind and a smile on your face! keep us update please as there are those of us who love to hear RUSH stories!

Finally, the last night of first rounds! We visited four houses...
#8- This was a really cool, relaxed house. They had a fun vibe to them, especially during their cute skit! The girls in the house were really nice and easy to talk to, and I ended up having something in common with both girls I talked to! #9- The house was nice and relaxed. During their skit, they talked about all aspects of their sorority, which was nice. I ended up asking a lot of questions which wasn't so bad, but the girls weren't as talkative. #10- My favorite! I loved the vibe in the house! Everyone was so different, but they were so enthusiastic for their sisterhood! The skit was great. I ended up talking to one girl the whole time, which normally would make me nervous, but it wasn't bad at all because we had so much in common! #11- This sorority was nice and down-to-earth...a mix of outgoing and laid-back at the same time. The skit was original and was pretty good. The girls were also pretty easy to talk to. So, after we visited the last sorority, we had to do ranking. I'm glad I thought of this ahead of time because otherwise I would've been there for a long time! Here's my order from favorite to least. In the next round, we visit up to seven houses! 10, 4, 8, 1, 2, 7, 5, 11, 9, 3, 6...Hopefully I'll get invited back to all seven of my first choices, or at least the first bunch of them!!!! Just our recruitment group is getting together this weekend, but I won't know what houses I'm going back to visit until the beginning of second rounds on Tuesday!!! :( That's too long to wait! |
Wow! That is a long time to wait! Sounds like you made good choices though...best of luck and have fun this weekend:)
|
It's Tuesday! Can't wait to hear how you Wisconsin girls did!!! Good luck!
|
I know, finally Tuesday!!! :) When I find out what sororities I'm returning to, I will tell you which ones they are, but I won't reveal what numbers they are...just a request from someone :) Woohoo, less than one week now until I find out who my new sisters will be!!!
