Beanie Sigel has launched a line of clothing, State Property, which contains hidden pockets and gun holsters. The line is manufactured via Roc-A-Wear, but Sigel described it as "hard everyday wear." "You know how you put your gun in your waistline and you gotta worry about it slipping? With these clothes, you don't got to worry about that. It's already in there," Sigel told AllHipHop.com. |

L.A. Times Fingers Rival in Tupac Shakur's Murder
Fri Sep 6, 7:19 AM ET LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Six years after rapper Tupac Shakur was killed in an unsolved drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, the Los Angeles Times on Friday identified his arch-rival, Notorious B.I.G., as a key player in the crime. Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was himself gunned down in Los Angeles the following year. The Times reported in its online edition that it was Wallace who provided the weapon used to murder Shakur as well as $1 million bounty. The two-part report, based on a year-long investigation by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chuck Philips, will run in the paper's Friday and Saturday editions. It identified Shakur's killer as Orlando Anderson, who belonged to Los Angeles' gang called the Crips. Anderson, who was never considered a serious suspect, was later killed in an unrelated shooting. Shakur and Wallace had been feuding for more than a year as part of a rivalry that split the rap community between the west coast (Shakur) and the east coast (Wallace). They exchanged insults in recordings and at award shows and concerts. Shakur was shot -- while riding in a high-profile convoy of luxury cars along Las Vegas Boulevard on Sept. 7, 1996 -- just hours after he and his entourage had beaten up Anderson in the lobby of the MGM Grand Hotel where they had attended a Mike Tyson boxing match, the Los Angeles Times said. The beating was in retaliation for an incident in which Anderson helped his gang beat and rob one of Shakur's bodyguards, who belonged to the rival Bloods gang, the paper said. After the MGM beating, Anderson quickly set up a Crips meeting at the Treasure Island Hotel and planned Shakur's murder, it added. Wallace, who was also in Las Vegas at the time, was brought into the picture after the Crips decided to make some money out of their plan. Wallace agreed to give them $1 million, on one condition: he wanted the satisfaction of knowing that Shakur had been killed by his gun, and he pulled out a .40-caliber Glock pistol, the paper said. Hours later, Shakur was hit by four rounds fired from a Cadillac that had pulled up next to his BMW, where he was a passenger in the front seat. No one saw who fired the gun, and Shakur died six days later. The people behind the shooting got away easily, and Wallace paid the Crips the first $50,000 of the promised $1 million a week after Shakur's death, the paper said. In March 1997 Wallace was shot to death in his car while visiting Los Angeles for the Soul Train Music Awards. That crime also remains unsolved. Anderson was shot dead in May 1998. The Los Angeles Times said the three other Crips who rode with Anderson that night in Las Vegas still live in Los Angeles and none of them has ever been questioned by police about the crime. |
Tupac's Murder
I heard on the radio this morning that investigators have a suspect for the murder of Tupac Shakur. They say that a crypt from Compton by the name of Orlando Anderson is suspected as the murderer. They also say that there are conflicting reports that the murder weapon was given to Anderson by the late Biggie Smalls. Has anyone else heard this, or know a link to the article?

I heard on the radio this morning that DMX accused JaRule of being gay. He goes on to say that Ja Rule was hitting some ecstacy and hooked up with one of the male stylist when they were out on tour. Ja Rule heard the comment and went on the radio in New York and openly told DMX to bring it whether it be in the studio or out in the street. He said you want to see 2pac you then he show how 2 Pac really is. He was upset and you could hear it in his voice.

R Kelly is being allowed to travel. This past weekend R Kelly attended two celebrity pool parties. A judge ordered Kelly to surrender his passport and to stay away from minors. R Kelly attended the parties in Miami, Florida but the promoters did not make a lot of money. The parties had to be stopped because of on going fights. The promoters didn't want to pay R Kelly because they felt he brought the wrong crowd and they lost money but they had to pay up because they signed a contract with R Kelly. R Kelly has to go to court on Sept. 20th to face child pornography charges. So what's going on with Jen and Ben. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are in Philly filming the movie Jersey Girl. Biggie Mom replies to Times allegations
"We are outraged at the false and damaging statements," Wallace's family said in a statement. "For the record, Wallace was at his home in New Jersey on the night of Tupac Shakur's murder, with friends who will continue to testify for his whereabouts since he is unable to defend himself."
One of those friends, Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s Lil' Cease, told MTV News he felt the Times' story was preposterous and refuted Philips' allegation against his buddy. "I got the article about seven this morning," said Cease, who had heard a vague description of the story the night before it was released. "I was just like, 'That's total nonsense.' " Cease claims Biggie was in the New York recording studio Daddy's House the morning of the shooting, and that he then returned to his home in Teaneck, New Jersey, to watch that evening's Mike Tyson fight on pay-per-view. Cease said documentation exists confirming Biggie's studio session that day. "We watched that fight at home," Cease affirmed. "Big was in the studio earlier that day, did what he had to do in the studio, then went back home and we watched the fight. We wasn't nowhere near Vegas." Cease also refutes Philips' claim that Big had strong ties to the Crips and hired them to act as security guards when traveling to the West Coast. "It wasn't no Crips rolling with us," Cease said. "We didn't really do no shows [in Los Angeles]. We did one show out there and that was '94, when we did the Puff Daddy, Mary J. Blige and Jodeci tour. That was the only time we performed out there. All that stuff, throwing up gang signs and stuff like that, that's just media hype. When we was out there, we never used no security from out there. Anybody that was with us was from New York." Family and friends of the rapper stressed that Biggie would never have killed Tupac. "Chistopher's character was both sensitive and loving," his mother, Voletta Wallace, said in a statement. "Not only could my son not have participated in such a crime, but he also wept openly and was desperately saddened at the news of Tupac's death." Faith Evans, Biggie's widow, said in a statement that there's no truth to what Philips wrote about her husband. "Our family continues to grieve over these and other lies perpetrated by irresponsible parties," she said. Members of Wallace's family said they're considering a lawsuit against the Times "for untruthful statements and accusations which amount to character assassinations of someone who is himself the victim of an unsolved murder." Writer Randall Sullivan investigated both rappers' murders for his book "LAbyrinth," which inspired the upcoming documentary "Biggie and Tupac," and he said he hopes the legal action will reveal the truth behind Philips' story. Both he and former LAPD Detective Russell Poole, the main source in "LAbyrinth," agree with Philips that Crips gang member Orlando Anderson shot Shakur, but they believe Death Row Records CEO Marion "Suge" Knight was behind the crime. "It sounds like the story was written by Suge, who wants to take some heat off of him[self]," Poole said. "I think the real question to ask is how did Philips connect with the Crips?" Sullivan added. "Was it Suge Knight, which I strongly suspect it was? And what would be their motive?" Knight declined to comment on Friday's Times article. Philips said Crips wouldn't discuss the shooting in the months after it occurred, but that five years later he was able to find people willing to talk. "After it's all forgotten, people feel differently," he said. "I believe the story we constructed for this paper, everything I have written in there," Philips added. "I heard lots of things and went down lots of paths with this story. It's not like I started out on Monday and ended on Friday. It was a period of more than a year, and countless interviews with individuals that I know no reporter has ever talked to and the police have never interviewed about what I have written here." Donald David, the lawyer representing Shakur's family, said he was not surprised by the allegations in the Times, but that he believes there is "no evidence either one way or the other" that Biggie was involved in the crime. "Afeni [Shakur, Tupac's mother,] still believes that the police have not done virtually anything to solve this murder, but she's not going to actively pursue it unless there is something that comes out, which is more evidence than what we've seen to this point," David said. "Chuck Philips has been a strong friend on this. He's done everything that could possibly be asked of him to try and get to the truth. But it's a lot easier for him to get people to talk than it would be for us." The Notorious B.I.G.'s family, however, said the Times report is disrespectful to Shakur's family. "Both men will have no peace as long as stories such as these continue to be written," their statement read. |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Webber indicted on charge of lying to grand jury By DAVID RUNK Associated Press Writer September 9, 2002 DETROIT (AP) -- Sacramento Kings star Chris Webber was indicted Monday on charges he lied to a grand jury about his dealings with a University of Michigan basketball booster more than a decade ago. Webber, who led Michigan's ``Fab Five'' team to two NCAA title games, was charged with obstruction of justice and making a false declaration before a grand jury, FBI spokeswoman Dawn Clenney said. Webber's father, Mayce Webber, and his aunt, Charlene Johnson, were indicted on the same charges. If convicted, each faces up to 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine. The indictment contends that Webber, his father and aunt lied to the grand jury and conspired to conceal the cash, checks, clothing, jewelry and other benefits that booster Ed Martin gave the player and his family from 1988-93. All three testified in 2000. The Kings had no comment on the indictment. Messages seeking comment from the elder Webber and Johnson were not immediately returned. After Martin's indictment, Webber publicly denied taking significant amounts of money from him and said the government's charges were inaccurate. Martin pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to launder money. Martin admitted he took gambling money, mixed it with earned income and money given to him from another person, then loaned it to at least four players while they were amateurs. Martin said he paid $280,000 to Webber; $160,000 to Robert Traylor, now with the Charlotte Hornets; $105,000 to Maurice Taylor, now with the Houston Rockets; and $71,000 to Louis Bullock, who has been playing professionally in Europe. Traylor and Bullock admitted receiving the money in testimony to the grand jury, their attorney, Steve Fishman, has said. Former Michigan guard Jalen Rose, now with the Chicago Bulls, also said in May that he took ``pocket money'' from Martin. Webber, a 29-year-old four-time All-Star, was the first pick in the 1993 NBA draft and was rookie of the year with Golden State. He starred at Washington before being traded to the Kings. Webber led Sacramento to the Western Conference finals, and the Kings were eliminated in Game 7 by the eventual NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. Copyright © 2002 Yahoo! Inc. All rights reserved. American Idol Follow-Up
Posted on Tue, Sep. 10, 2002
PEOPLE IN THE NEWS Conflict finds 'American Idol' Famous for just a week and already embroiled in controversy. It was bound to happen to "American Idol" Kelly Clarkson, the former cocktail waitress with the powerful pipes and the new recording contract. Though she's scheduled to sing Wednesday at an event commemorating Sept 11 at Washington's Lincoln Memorial, she thinks it's a bad idea and says she won't do it. The debate arose after critics suggested her appearance might seem a tad self-serving at what should be a somber occasion of national mourning. Clarkson agreed, but the producers of "American Idol" and a charity that's sponsoring the event say Clarkson will go on as scheduled. The runners-up aren't out Meanwhile, other "American Idol" contestants are looking for their own moments in the spotlight. Kelly's runner-up, Justin Guarini, announced he will be managed by "Idol" judge Simon Cowell. Cowell also signed Tamyra Gray. Baby-faced R.J. Helton told the New York Post that he was in talks with Christian music labels. Ryan Starr claimed she too was in talks with a label. |

N.C. beauty queen case back in court
More evidence, closing arguments to be heard Thursday September 12, 2002 Posted: 9:53 AM EDT (1353 GMT) A judge is to hear more evidence and closing arguments Thursday in the effort by Rebekah Revels, left, to be reinstated as Miss North Carolina. Runner-up Misty Clymer speaks with her here in Atlantic City. WILMINGTON, North Carolina (AP) -- A North Carolina beauty queen is waiting to see if her legal briefs -- not her looks and talent -- are good enough to keep her in the Miss America pageant. Rebekah Revels' royal reign as one of two dueling Miss North Carolinas expired at midnight Wednesday after U.S. District Court Judge James Fox refused to extend a temporary restraining order. Revels claims she was unfairly forced to resign in July when a former boyfriend told pageant officials he had two topless snapshots of her. Misty Clymer, 24, then also assumed the title of Miss North Carolina. Fox said he'll hear more evidence and closing arguments Thursday, then issue a decision from the bench that would determine whether Revels continues to compete. "It is going to be made in haste," said Fox, who goes on a Canadian vacation next week and will be gone during the September 21 finals of the pageant. "The legal issues that you have presented are complex." Revels, 24, has asked Fox for an order that would compel the Miss America Organization to recognize her as a contestant. Her request is part of a civil lawsuit against the organization. Revels has been accepted at the pageant along with Clymer since Friday, when pageant officials received court papers ordering that Revels participate. Revels also has lawsuits pending against the Miss North Carolina pageant, which was ordered by a state judge to restore her title and contract. And she has sued the boyfriend. Earlier Wednesday, Revels said she would be disappointed if the judge ruled against her. "But I've been prepared to pack up and leave since I arrived," she said. George Bauer, interim president of the Miss America Organization, said after the hearing that Revels would not be removed immediately. Her lawyer, Barry Nakell, had expressed concerns that she might be escorted from her hotel room at midnight. "The Miss America Organization will treat Rebekah Revels with every courtesy and treat her as a VIP guest," Bauer said. A pageant spokesman said Revels will be permitted to rehearse, eat lunch and participate in a scheduled meeting between contestants and New Jersey schoolchildren. Spokesman Steve McKay would not say if she would still be considered a contestant or be introduced as Miss North Carolina. In testimony Wednesday, Bauer said it would be very difficult to continue with two contestants from North Carolina. Earlier in the court appearances, Fox also said it wasn't practical to have more than one contestant from a state. On Tuesday, Revels admitted that she resigned, but said she didn't feel it was voluntary. She said she was given the choice of quitting or being fired. Copyright 2002 The Associated Press. Shaq gets cleared

O'Neal cleared of wrongdoing The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that NBA star Shaquille O'Neal has been cleared of wrongdoing in an internal affairs investigation that stemmed from his accompanying detectives on a drug raid last week. Sheriff's Chief Criminal Deputy Col. Mike Barnett said O'Neal, an LSU graduate and Los Angeles Lakers center, was permitted to accompany the officers on the raid because he is a commissioned officer from another jurisdiction. However, a spokeswoman for the Port of Los Angeles Police, said O'Neal has not completed his training. Barnett said an internal affairs complaint was filed by one of the two people who were issued misdemeanor summonses on Sept. 3 after a search of their trailer at 16352 Old Hammond Highway, Lot 224. Joshua Brock, 20, and Rikki Bewley, 21, both got summonses for possession of marijuana after the raid, Barnett said. He would not say which of them filed the complaint. WBRZ-TV, citing unnamed sources, claimed that the complaint involved O'Neal putting a man's head in a toilet. Barnett would not discuss the substance of the complaint. The department does not discuss those complaints, he said. He said the investigation showed that the complaint was unfounded. "There is no indication that O'Neal or any of the other officers there" violated any Sheriff's Office policy or law, Barnett said. He said the investigation, based on multiple interviews with detectives and witnesses "clearly showed" that no one participating in the raid "did anything improper." He suggested that the person who complained may have had an ulterior motive. "It is not unusual for people to attempt to shake down sports figures," he said. O'Neal is in training with the Port of Los Angeles Police and has said he might pursue a career in law enforcement after he leaves basketball. Rachel Campbell, a spokeswoman for the Port of Los Angeles Police, said O'Neal is not a commissioned officer because he has not completed training. O'Neal's spokesman, Michael Parris, did not return a message seeking comment on the matter Wednesday. Neither Bewley nor Brock could be reached for comment. Oh no, JLO!!!!!!
It seems that Jennifer Lopez has ticked off the Illustrious Music of Black Origin (MOBO) because she refuses to let them use any of her songs in their compilation CD, MOBO 2002 saying her music "Is of latin origin not black". A source at MOBO says Lopez has the right to decline but asks " who does she think she is and why did she accept a hip hop award at the MTV awards"? I wonder how P. Diddy, Nas, and Ja feel about her saying that especially when music experts says she's a mix of R&B and hip hop.

If you notice she never attends any Soul Train Awards (not that I blame her for this years ST awards), BET, Essence Awards, Source or any African-American Awards. Now you can catch her all up the Emmy's, MTV, or Grammy's. She was with P. Diddy for the publicity only as far as her album "on the 6" was concerned. When she saw that she could make it musically without him and she long some of the ropes in the music business she cut him like yesterdays garbage. Personally, I don't think he was such a partyer and ladysman as she claims. |

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.latimes.com/news/printedi...e17sep17.story OBITUARIES LaWanda Page, 81; Actress Played Aunt Esther in 'Sanford and Son' By MYRNA OLIVER TIMES STAFF WRITER September 17 2002 LaWanda Page, comedic character actress best known for her role as the Bible-thumping Aunt Esther in the 1970s television hit "Sanford and Son," has died. She was 81. Page died Saturday in Centinela Hospital in Los Angeles of complications from diabetes. "LaWanda lived the life she loved, and loved the life she lived," said Donald Welch, who wrote and directed a comedy gospel musical in which Page starred, "Take It to the Lord ... Or Else." He said Page had often used the phrase as a soothing accolade when close friends died. Born in Cleveland and reared in St. Louis, Page began her career as a dancer and chorus girl billed as "the Bronze Goddess of Fire." She soon became adept at stand-up comedy. But her greatest fame began in her 50s, when childhood friend Redd Foxx asked her to join his Norman Lear sitcom adapted from the British series "Steptoe and Son." Page signed on as Fred Sanford's crusty sister-in-law, Esther Anderson, in 1973 and stayed until the series ended with Foxx's departure in 1977. As proprietor of the run-down Sanford Arms rooming house next door to Sanford's junkyard, Aunt Esther was constantly at odds with Fred over his lifestyle, his business and how he treated his grown son, Lamont, played by Demond Wilson. Page perfected the persona of a righteous, elderly woman who more than stood up for herself. She reprised the Aunt Esther role in two short-lived "Sanford and Son" spinoffs, "The Sanford Arms" in 1977 and Foxx's own "Sanford" in 1980. She also made guest appearances on Foxx's variety show, "The Redd Foxx Comedy Hour" in 1977. Again as a mouthy matriarch, Page was a regular in another brief sitcom, "Detective School" in 1979, as one of the unlikely students trying to become a private eye. Similarly, she was Ma, owner of the cops' favorite neighborhood restaurant in the brief 1980 series "B.A.D. Cats" (an acronym for Burglary Auto Detail, Commercial Auto Thefts), starring a little-known Michelle Pfeiffer as a police officer. Page also appeared in such films as 1982's "Zapped!" and Ice Cube's "Friday" in 1995 and had guest roles on such television series as "Family Matters," "In Living Color" and "Martin." In recent years, Page also made television commercials, including a well-received one for Atlanta-based Church's Fried Chicken. To tout the chain's honey-buttered biscuits, she was seen humorously milking a "bumblecow" that was adorned with bee's wings and antennae, then deadpanning into the camera, "Hey, it could happen." Page is survived by her daughter, Clara Johnson, of Los Angeles, and sister, Lynn Hamilton. Funeral arrangements are pending. Copyright 2002 Los Angeles Times |
