TBSG Rush Thread

Well, we officially start tommorow by meeting our Gammi Chi groups and going over the schedule and doing a little philanthropy activity.

I woke up this morning and thought I finally start tommorow YES! after waiting soooo long!

For the get to know our group meeting I was thinking about wearing capris or khaki's and a nice shirt. Should I be concerned what I wear for the first day since we are not even going to be meeting the actives?

And, yes I will post everyday!

PenguinTrax 09-03-2002 12:01 PM

Good luck on your recruitment!

I wouldn't worry too much about what to wear today, but you should look nice and neat, if nothing else.

Relax and have fun!

KappaKittyCat 09-03-2002 12:04 PM

Give us the scoop: Where are you and which sororities?

We want details!

Good luck, keep an open mind, yadda yadda... you'll hear it over and over again, but it's so important.

KDHoney 09-03-2002 12:29 PM

Best of luck ToBe...keep smiling, have fun, and keep an open mind! Can't wait to hear more! Also, wear what you feel comfortable in...you'll be more relaxed that way!

AOX81 09-03-2002 12:30 PM

GOOD LUCK ToBeSororityGrl!! :D

violets 09-03-2002 12:48 PM

GOOD LUCK! Keep an open mind and heart, and always keep posting!

Where I am and which sororities

I'm in Missouri, at Truman State. The 5 NPC's here are:

AEA
AGD
DZ
SK
SSS

pbear19 09-03-2002 01:24 PM

Best of luck ToBeSororityGrl!!! I'm sure you'll do just fine, and you'll have a ton of support from GC of course! :D

AGDLynn 09-03-2002 01:37 PM

Finally, someone with an AGD chapter that posts, lol!

Good luck!

Lynn

AGD4me 09-03-2002 01:44 PM

Best of luck to you!! I know two people who were Greek at Truman State and have nothing but positive things to say about it! Looking forward to your updates. :)

maggieaxid 09-03-2002 01:50 PM

Is AEA a local, or is that ASA?

ToBeSororityGrl 09-03-2002 01:52 PM

Oops!

Yeah it's ASA, I was thinking Sigma so I put the E sorry!

maggieaxid 09-03-2002 01:58 PM

Don't worry about it. We had a teacher that made up names for all the sororities and fraternities and made fun of us when ever we wore letters. I think on the first day of class he was like "ok, there are five three sideway M's in this class (five tri-sigma's), 2 A=trinangle (AZD), and 3 OM's (Phi Mu). " I think most greeks are usually used to people getting their letters mixed up. It's ok!;)

33girl 09-03-2002 02:12 PM

Doesn't Truman have a couple local sororities that participate in Panhel rush also?

oh, and about the AEA thing...we have sisters who have been sisters longer than most of you have been alive who still do that. ;)

aprilxo 09-03-2002 02:40 PM

No, the locals don't participate in panhel recruitment at Truman. At least not the two years that I was there! They have separate rush a bit later in the semester. There they have Sigma Chi Delta, which is a local social sorority. Then the Society of the Prim Roses is a social group interested in bringing another national to campus. There is also Alpha Sigma Gamma, which is a HUGE local service sorority (lots of fun girls from all the houses in it too... can't tell that I pledged them for a while, eh? lol...) There are some other local groups of various kinda I think, be it service or not. There's a small "non greek" sisterhood that goes by Beta Omega Beta (BOB--how much sense does that make to go ahead and use greek letters... but anyway *sheesh*)

But I'm not one to judge, so whoever wants to do whatever... :)

aprilxo 09-03-2002 02:45 PM

Oh, and I'm rooting for SIGMA KAPPA!!! :D One of my bestest friends is a Sig Kap at Truman!!

Although I like the AGD's there too :)

KappaKittyCat 09-03-2002 02:55 PM

Tangent!

When I got my lovely tattoo on Saturday night, the artist scared me a little by referring to our pledge pin (the symbol above the letters) as "the backwards E thingie inside the triangle" and the Gamma as an "upside-down L." Oh well. I suppose that if he's going to be carving it into my flesh, it's better that he have an idea in his head of what it looks like to him.

pbear19 09-03-2002 04:26 PM

Actually, it looks like not only is Sigma Chi Delta participating in formal recruitment, so is Sigma Lambda Gamma (a latina interest sorority). At least the way the website for panhel is set up it appears that those seven will all be doing formal, as the theme includes all seven. Then of course the Prim Roses, ASG, APO, and my service sorority TLS will all be having recruitment later. TLS's recruitment starts the monday that formal ends, so I'm guessing the others are around that time, too.

Oh, and AGDLynn, the AGD chapter at Truman was always my fave NPC group when I was there! They are truly a credit to your organization.

nwsigkap 09-03-2002 04:48 PM

Good luck!

Good luck with recruitment! I'm a Sigma Kappa at Northwest Missouri State, so I bet you all wonder who I'm rooting for! ;) I really don't know anyone from Truman since I'm originally from Nebraska, but a lot of my friends know tons of people from there. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted!

Your tatoo looks very cool! I would love to get one, but alas, no pain tolerance (besides, I could only get a rose or something like that...we're not allowed to have our letters as a tatoo).

My mulitcultural edu. prof was talking about exclusion from groups and such and she was talking about our sororities:

"Oh see, it would be bad if someone was like "Im a yellow jacket (Phi Sig) and I cant be friends with the pink jackets (old DZ) or the blue jackets (ZTA) and those white jackets? (d-phi-e, new DZ, AST, TPA, Tri Sigma)"

heh

sailboatgirl 09-03-2002 06:47 PM

Yeah! Another rush thread where there is a Tri Sigma Chapter!

ToBeSororityGrl 09-03-2002 07:30 PM

In 24 hours I meet my group. God, I can't wait!!!! Guess who's not going to sleep tonight? :(

I wish it was a week from now, then I'd know and wouldn't have to worry, oh the suspense!!

EagleChick19 09-03-2002 07:56 PM

Good Luck! You'll do great!!!

shopgirl 09-03-2002 08:13 PM

Good Luck!!!

I'm happy to see another rush thread where Sigma Kappa is involved.

GO SIGMA KAPPA!!!

AlphaSigLana 09-03-2002 10:16 PM

I'm cheering for ASA. It would be nice if someone would join an ASA chapter. everyone that rushes always joins DZ, SKAGD, DG etc since ASA isn't on many campuses. Just once let me hear someone join ASA!!!!!I'm sure all the other chapters are great, but I'm going to hope that you join ASA--

AchtungBaby80 09-03-2002 10:24 PM

Of course I'm pushing for DZ (whoo!), but I guess I can cheer for ASA, too. ;)

ToBeSororityGrl 09-03-2002 10:34 PM

Awww!

You all are TOO sweet! Just hope I get into something! I can't go through another year of rejection!

AchtungBaby80 09-03-2002 10:38 PM

Hang on, did you go through recruitment last year?

winnieb 09-03-2002 11:08 PM

I'll second that AGDLynn---finally an AGD chapter to follow!!!

ToBe... Best of luck to you!!!! Please keep us posted!!!

ToBeSororityGrl 09-03-2002 11:18 PM

Yes I went through recruitment last year. I posted it in another thread so maybe you missed that. When I got to school I had no intention of rushing until the first day of classes when the actives were wearing these cute pink shirts that said, "On the road of life there are friends and then there are sisters...Sisters wanted!" and I was like awww I want to be a sister!

I rushed, was invited to 2/5 for invites and did not get preffed. Of course I was bummed, but during the year I held my head up and decided that I was more mature and ready to try again, so here I am! Giving it all I've got

KDHoney 09-03-2002 11:26 PM

Congrats to you ToBe! I think it's awesome that you're giving it another shot! Can't wait to hear all about it...

Shark_in_Skirt 09-04-2002 12:05 AM

ToBe,

I wish you the VERY BEST OF LUCK this year! Please keep us updated! I'm really looking forward to hearing about your experince.

SigKapSundevil 09-04-2002 12:17 AM

I am really glad you are going to try again this year! Things happen for a reason. I will be thinking about you this week, I hope you have a great time.
GO SIGMA KAPPA!!

GiantsChic 09-04-2002 01:08 AM

I wish you all the luck in the world- I also went through rush before and will be going through again this fall- good luck!

Peaches-n-Cream 09-04-2002 01:14 AM

ToBeSororityGrl 09-04-2002 09:16 AM

WE START TONIGHT YAYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

I'll let you know all about my group and where I'll be headed the next two days for parties. Ohhhh I can hardly contain my excitement!!

ToBeSororityGrl 09-04-2002 04:40 PM

My Gammi Chi just called to let me know that she won't be at the Panhellenic Welcome because she has class, but I had to ask her a question regarding age since I was reading that soph's would get cut because of age over freshman, and she said that it wouldn't be a problem at all, and that age only comes into place when it's a jr. or sr. going through. Whew, I'm glad I got that all cleared up! I was starting to get all worried!

pbear19 09-04-2002 06:57 PM

Good luck tonight, and definately don't worry about age. I know a ton of great girls who got bids as sophmores, and few who did as juniors. I really don't think at Truman that age is as important as at other schools. So go have a great time!
