Holly's rush thread!
 

Well I know how addicting these threads are so here is another one for you!! I am rushing at the U of Tulsa...we have Chi O's, Tri-Delts, Kappas, Thetas, DG's and KD's. We had a meeting last night just to talk about what to expect and what to wear and all that. There were only about 60 girls there...I dont know if that is a good or a bad thing!?! All of the recruitment councilers were awesome! Tuesday night is our first round of parties, it is philanthropy night...after we go to all of the houses we go back to this room with our rush group and we have to stay there for like an hour or two and then we get our invite list for round two...I thought that was kind of odd. At least I wont have to worry for a whole day!! We go back to 4 houses the next day and it is skit day and we get house tours. Then we wait for our invites. Thursday night we go to 2 prefs and go back to the room, make our decision and wait in AGONY and in silence in the room for like 2 hours until our bids come!! Then we run to our house and celebrate!!! Then on friday we have a greek tailgate and go to the OU vs. TU football game and party with our new sisters all night!! As you can tell I am SO excited! I hope I get into the right house....wish me luck!! Ill write on tuesday and let you know how round 1 went!!

Good luck, Holly! The fact that there are only 60 girls rushing works in your favor, because that means you have less competition. TU has a great Greek system (though it's a small school).

It sounds like you're going to have a great week! Tulsa has 6 great national/international sororities on campus.

Do you know what you're going to wear to anything yet (hey, we like hearing about that kind of thing too!) Maybe you can slip a book or magazine in your bag to keep you occupied during the silent waiting time after Pref? Can't wait to hear how Tuesday is for you.

Have a wonderful time. I suggest you read some of the other rush threads that are on this board, they are great stories of women who have kept open minds and hearts and have been led to the right homes for them.
You have amazing chapters to choose from, your recruitment experience is going to be great.

Woo-hoo! Another rush thread:D U of Tulsa's system sounds similar in size to John Carroll's...we have 5 sororities and quota last spring was 18 women. Sometimes I think that fewer sororities makes the choice a bit easier...I can't imagine having to sort out 15 or 20 groups! Anyway, have a great time Holly! Keep us updated on your experiences! Keep smiling and keep an open mind!

Hey, everybody, feel the love! We have fabulous new sisters!

Well, for round one, I am wearing a khaki shirt with this black dressy tanktop from express and cute black flipflops. Round two I am wearing a sundress from express and for prefs an elegant, simple black dress from J Crew.
We meet with our rho chi groups tonight at nine and I cant wait! All of the rho chis are awesome and I am sure they will be very helpful! I will post late tomorrow night and let you know what houses I got invited back to, and describe (in detail :D !!) how the parties went! Wish me luck!!

Okay so round one is over!! It is 1:13am and we just got finished! Here is how it went:

First house...it was decorated SO cute. The girl I talked to was absolutely awesome and the conversation totally flowed. She was totally someone I could see myself being friends with. We decorated dog bowls (haha!) for their philanthropy...but neither of us decorated ours very much because we were so busy chatting.

Second House...The girls seemed kind of fake, the girl I was mainly talking to was so sweet and really funny, but I didn't feel like I really connected with the other girls I talked too. We made little baskets with toys in them for their philanthropy.

Third House...LOVED LOVED LOVED it! At the first two houses I was kind of nervous and a little reserved, but at this house I was SOOOO relaxed and the conversation flowed SO well with every girl I talked to....I don't want to get my heart set on one house though because I know my opinions can change during the next 2 nights, but as of right now it was definately my favorite!

Fourth House...Had heard some not so nice rumors about some of the girls beforehand but went into it with an open mind and loved all of the girls I talked to. The president of the house talked to me first, and then the vice pres talked to me the rest of the time...they were both awesome. Their house was gorgeous. It had a marble floor and a balcony over the living room where some girls rooms overlook...it was so nice and I really liked the girls!

Fifth House...House wasn't very nice at all, but that isnt important. The girls were all really sweet and nice, but I could tell they weren't girls I would be best friends with. We made a really cute stuffed animal project for their philanthropy that was really fun!

Sixth House...I was really exhausted at this point, but I had a good conversation with the girls. The house was gorgeous and had a huge mural painted on the wall of the dining room. All of the girls seemed awesome, but everyone was so tired it was hard to get excited about it!

After that we all put our PJ's on and all of the RC's and rushee's had to stay in this lecture hall for a few hours while the houses decided who they wanted back. We had a speaker talk to us about stress and recruitment and then we ordered pizza...it was a blast. And then our RC's got the list of what houses we had gotten invited back to. I was shaking and my heart was pounding I slowly opened my paper and saw................



ALL 6 sororities had asked me back:D!!!! I was very happy! We are only allowed to go back to 4 tomorrow so I released house 2 and house 5....it was a really hard decision, but I think I made the right choice! Tomorrow is skit night and I can't wait! I'll post tomorrow night and let you know how it went!

Wow, Holly, what a great start to recruitment for you! The PJs and pizza time sounded like a lot of fun, and waiting is worth it when you find out everyone wanted you back!! Your comments are very insightful, it sounds like you're looking at the sisterhood and how comfortable you are there--and not the house. There is a difference and I'm glad you understand that!

I admire your open-mindedness. It must have shown through if all six houses asked you back. Have a ball at skit night. I'll be waiting up for your thread, no doubt. If you can catch eyes with the girls who rushed you last night, flash them a quick smile. It's a good way to re-connect without seeming like a stalker. Also, be mindful of your facial expression and demeanour while you're watching the skits. The women are watching you watching them. This is most likely the part of Recruitment that they've put the most work into, so even if you're feeling leukwarm on the house, at least show an appreciation for their effort. I'm not suggesting that you wouldn't, merely stating the obvious.

Just gonna ask a small favor. When you post for tonight, please keep the numbers the same. You'll be returning to 1, 3, 4, and 6, correct? This'll make it easier for us to remember how you felt about each house.

Best of luck tonight. I'm sure you'll do wonderfully.

Wow, Holly! It sounds like you have had a terrific rush experience so far! Overall, all of the houses sounded like they were fun to visit! I can't wait to hear how your skit night went!

Congratulations on being asked back to all six houses. As I am sure you can tell from other rush threads, this doesn't happen often.

It definately sounds as if you are enjoying your rush experience, which is as it should be. I love the details, but it is driving me crazy trying to figure out which house is which. I bet you enjoy keeping is in suspense.

Have lots of fun at skit night, the girls but a lot of effort into this night.

We are all waiting to hear how things go.

LOL...as you can tell, my sister Danielle loves these rush threads (then again, I do too). Can't wait to hear how it all went:D

Where is she?!? Round 2 was yesterday and today is her pref parties and Bid Day! I wish I would have gotten my bid on the same day as Pref.! Much less stress, and much more sleep I am sure!!!

I have a round 2 update for you!! First of all I had SO much fun at all of the houses I went to last night. I was going to post last night but I was SO exhausted! Okay, I am keeping the numbers the same as they were the other night....

House one...Talked to some really sweet girls, I really connected with them, they were so easy to talk to. They had the best skit of all the houses...it was a XYZ's in the City (off sex and the city) and the girls did such an awesome job, it was absolutely hilarious.

House three - This was the house I loved during round 1...I met more girls and every one of them seemed like girls I could be best friends with. I could totally be myself, and we all had the same sense of humor. All of the girls are down to earth and so fun. They are very close to one another. They had a skit that was just a lot of different songs that they had changed the words to and they had awesome dances to. I was talking to the Pres of the house and out of the blue said "This house fits you, you totally belong here". It meant a lot to me...I told her how comfortable I was there and how much I loved the girls. It was awesome!

House four - I had another great conversation with the girls. They are all sophisticated and fun, and I really liked talking to them. Their skit was an MTV TRL thing. They did a top five countdown and each song they sang was about their house. They had some awesome singers and dancers in the house. We were served these awesome drinks made with strawberry sorbet and 7-up...they were SO yummy!!

House 6 - I liked these girls a lot too. I talked to the president for a long time and she really made it clear that these girls were CLOSE...they have tons of bonding nights and they all interact so well with eachother. They did a wizard of oz skit that was really cute. Dorothy was confused about joining a sorority and glenda the good witch was encouraging her to join but the bad witch kept scaring her...the tin man and scarecrow and lion all talked her into it and when she joined XYZ she realized there was "no place like home!" It was very cute.

We also went on tours of all of the houses. They are all laid out the same...there is a living room and dining room and all that and each house is beautiful. And then in the back of the house are the rooms. All the rooms are set up in suites, there are 3 rooms per suite. The rooms are so cute and the upstairs suited all have vaulted ceilings....You are required to live in your house for 2 years and in some houses you get to move in right away, others you wait until next year.

Okay, so we went back to where we stay to wait for invites to come back and I started thinking about the two houses I would choose for prefs if I got invited back. I loved house 3 from the start, but I wanted to remain open and make sure that there wasnt another house that I was missing. All of the houses I went to tonight were awesome and I would be happy in any one of them. That is what made the decision so difficult. I knew that I was going to go back to house 3 if invited, but I didnt have a clue about the other one! When our invites came in our rho chi's warned us that some girls hadnt recieved any invites, and some girls had recieved 6 (Apparently, if you cut a house after round 1 and they really wanted you they would ask you back to prefs)...I opened my bid card and saw 5 sororities listed! I got invited back to all 4 I went to, plus a house I released the night before! I feel so fortunate to have had such a selection, I felt SO horrible for the girls who didnt get any invites back:(

So I struggled and discussed with my Rho Chi, and finally made my pref decision

House 3 and House 1...and since Im sure you're going nuts, I'll tell you what they each are!!

House 3 is CHI OMEGA and House 1 is DELTA GAMMA!






So tonight I will going to prefs at those two wonderful houses and then I will sit in anxiousness until 11. At that time we all meet at a lecture hall that is across the street and about 1/4 mile from sorority row. Our Rho Chis hand us our bids and we have to sit on them. Our rho chis reveal their affiliations and then we all open our bids on three....then is what we call "running of the bulls" we all sprint out of the building to our new houses! All of the fraternities will get done like an hour before us, and they line up across the street from sorority row and watch us all run! We then spend the night at our house! Tomorrow we have house pictures and then we all go to the OU vs TU football game with our sisters!

I have had such a wonderful rush experience. I cant believe the process is almost over and I will have sisters soon!! I also feel very fortunate to be able to attend my favorite two houses for prefs...I know that a lot of great girls werent so lucky. Well wish me luck and I'll let you know tomorrow morning whether I am a

CHI OMEGA or a DELTA GAMMA!!!
