A Sorority sweetheart

Do these exist? Can I be one? I want to wear YOUR letters and YOUR pin.

-Rudey
--I hear it's highly fashionable.

Sure, my local, Chi Chi Chi has them!

All of the sororities on our campus nominate a fella from each house for their sweetheart (although it's always called something different). AZD has the "Xi Man" for example.

mmcline 08-24-2002 08:51 PM

On my campus, none of the 3 sororities have sweethearts. All the frats have there version of sweethearts.. In AST, we can't be sweet hearts though.

Betarulz! 08-25-2002 12:23 AM

In Beta Theta Pi, the only people other than initiated members who can wear the badge is a members' Mother, Sister, Daughter, Wife, or Fiancee...Most chapters tend to shy away from "Sweethearts" as far as I know. I do know that we outlawed "little sister" organizations back in the mid 80s due to questions about ritual secrecey and what not.

Anyway if you want to wear the Diamond and the three stars you'll have to capture the attention of one of my brothers to do so.

ZZ-kai- 08-25-2002 12:27 AM

I actually was the Alpha Xi Delta Sweetheart for their chapter at my school last year. Yeah, some of their past sweethearts wore their letters on sweatshirts or lavaliers, but I never have. I think it looks a little cheesy. But yes, we do exist and yes, some of them do where their letters.

chideltjen 08-25-2002 01:26 AM

I was just about to start a topic on this.

Our 'sweetheart' if you will... is a Delta Chi that we picked. We had a lil contest/event for any and all greek and non greek guys that we would nominate ourselves or their brothers nominated and we asked them some questions and voted. In return, he can wear letters... not the big cloth ones, we just gave him a t-shirt at formal. And he can also help with recruitment and whatnot. We just started it this year so things are a lil new. But for now, he is our Chi Delt King and just an all around cheerleader... sorta.

I think Phi Sig does something similar... Mr Phi Significant. I don't know what they do tho.

AXO has Mr Alpha Chi... but I don't think a sweetheart comes from that... I think it is more of just a male pagent/talent competition.

AchtungBaby80 08-25-2002 10:08 AM

Ours is awesome--we don't have a "sweetheart," we have a Lad of the Lamp! :D

Do you mean little sisters (who have to pledge) or the individual sweetheart picked yearly? I don't understand why AST wouldn't want women to be a sweetheart...it's a huge honor at most schools and makes the whole chapter look good.

Since one of our symbols was the Phoenix, our sweetheart was called the Phoenix man. We have a Phoenix recognition pin (this can go to anyone who's helped the sorority in a significant way) that he received, but he definitely didn't wear our badge...

CutiePie2000 08-25-2002 07:17 PM

Some DG chapters have an Anchor Man competition.

PM_Mama00 08-25-2002 10:58 PM

I was told that Phi Mu isn't allowed to have a sweetheart, but I know alot of chapters do. I was also told that nationally we're not supposed to be big/lil sisters to fraternity brothers. Who knows?

My chapter of Chi Omega did awards during our Spring Formal. One of them was Chi Omega prince, which was awarded to a guy who helped out the chapter considerably. Usually it was a boyfriend who'd been of much help during RUSH, or another fraternity guy for similar efforts.
Then we had Chi Omega King which was awarded to a father of a sister for his help. Similarly we had a Chi Omega Queen.

Aww, that's cute! I wish our chapter did something like that. For a small chapter, we always have parents or alumni who come out and help. But we just send a thank you card... blah.

PiKA2001 08-26-2002 01:16 AM

The sororities here dont use the term sweetheart. The AGD's have alpha gam man, DZ has a big brother, and AEPhi has phi guy. Oh yeah, those three titles are all held by pikes.

AlphaChiS2K 08-26-2002 07:11 AM

Our sweethearts our called Chi Guys... we give them a pair of letters, but instead of the OMega there's an Omicron. They coach football, come to all our events, and we serenade them.... it's fun :)

mmcline 08-26-2002 08:46 AM

I was told AST can't have guys be sweethearts and we as sisters can't be little sisters at fraternities.. Now, this was told to me by a sister who hates that I hang out with one frat. and she thought I was about to geta bid to be a little sister. But I do know whenever we have nationals, we aren't allowed to mention anything about sweethearts or us being little sisters.

AOX81 08-26-2002 08:48 AM

We have Mr. Alpha Theta Chi. Our current Mr. Alpha Theta Chi is a sisters fiance who is also our webmaster :)

You mean your DZs don't have Lad of the Lamp?? Maybe that's just a KY thing...

Optimist Prime 08-26-2002 12:25 PM

we had a dream girl but that turned into drama. Our national has friends which are ladies who help us out. I want that, just girls we know who are firends. then the dream girl can be someone famous like Julia Stiles.

When I was in school, our "big brothers" were called Diamond Studs. (our jewel is the diamond) ;)

Optimist Prime 08-26-2002 02:05 PM

I think the DZ's here have a turtle man. I was the greek chat Chi Omega Sweetheart :D

DigitalAngel126 08-30-2002 12:15 AM

sig kaps at ball state have a Sigma Man... last year his name was Sam, so he was 'Sam, Sam, the Sigma Man" hehe...

Re: AST

It is true that we cannot be members of a 'little sister' organization to any other group. (That I know for sure).

Now, it's my understanding that ASTs CAN be selected to be a sweetheart as long as it's an honor bestowed upon one woman for a specific period of time. (i.e. the fraternity can't have 25 sweethearts they pick at the same time, and have them do organized things like meetings, etc.) I also think that an AST chapter can have a Man of the Year/Semester (but not 25 of them at the same time, etc. etc.)

I will do a little research on the topic. . .

MoxieGrrl 08-30-2002 04:28 PM

My KD chapter had sweethearts. They were 5 guys total. If one graduated, you had to replace him, and there could never be more than 5 at once. Some KD chapters I know have a Daggerman, which is kinda cool. :)

We also had a KD King, which was the guy who won our philanthropic male "beauty pageant."

hey girls!

i'm not sure if ya'll knew it or not, but one of your sister was national runner up for Sigma Tau Gamma's White Rose (thier sweetheart) in 2001! -- that's a great honor, and i'm proud of her, she's the coolest girl!

Yes, that is what I mean when I say sweetheart. I think pretty much every NPC at the very least "strongly discourages" their members from being little sisters. We're allowed to have one sweetheart but not little brothers.
