Which Decade
Would you want to live in aside from now?
I'd say the 80s or the 60s |
20's or 60's
|
Since everyone thinks of me as a valley girl, it has to be the 80s!!! :D
The 50s/60s would be cool. But only if I could be some rich heiress hobknobbing and globetrotting with the Rat Pack. ;) (I'm listening to my Martini Lounge cd right now. Totally putting me in a dancing mood!) |
Definitely the 1960's! :)
|
Either the 20s, or somewhere in between 1940-1965. The Rat Pack sounds good to me too! Either that or wearing poodle skirts and ponytails and fainting over Elvis or the Beatles.
|
the roaring 20's....they had some great jazz and the speakeasies sound like a ton of fun!
|
It's a little unfair of me because I have personal experience, but I can't imagine a decade when it was both more fun, more exciting and more terrifying to be growing up than the sixties.
|
i would totally want to live in the 80s!!! to be in college in the 80s would have to be good times for sure!
|
80's rock becase i was a kid. but 90's rock too because they gave my so much. mossimo was my favorite brand in t he 90's!!!
|
Dude, Josh, you're my friend, and we're both Aztecs, I'd advise to you NOT posting at 2 AM while you're completly wasted :)
|

LindsAy, you lovely lady of USD you, it's even later now, as much as I don't mind traveling back into time with you in a VW bus, I think it's time to put down the keyboard.

I don't think I would go back there, though. The hairspray and spiral perms were budget breakers. I think I would like to have hung out with F. Scott and Zelda on the French Riviera in the 1920's! |
Anything before the 60's and you're just asking to die early and to die a boring life as well.
I wouldn't want to live in any other decade. I'm sorry but the 60's was just dirty. Yeah there was free love, but look at what else there was. People lived in communes, women didn't shave, showering was not a daily task, etc. In regards to the 70's, I have two keywords for you: Disco and Polyester. I choose to pass on that bad boy. In regards to the 80's, I couldn't stand the colors. It's as if every one had some hot pink tshirt with something about skateboarding on there. The guys rolled and folded up the sleeves on their sports jackets and did weird things with their hair. I can't wait to see in 10 years what people say about this time :) -Rudey |
I would say the 60's so many milestones in history.
|
the 60's or 70's, at least the music I listen to would be the in music ;).
|
I'd be more comfortable probably in the 40's and 50's.
I couldn't handle the 80's, that's for sure..I have 4 older sisters who were teens at that time..the hair..omigawd..the hair...it engulfed everything it came in contact with! |
Which ever decade that Donna Reid was alive and a popular show...that's when I'd want to live. HA HA HA!
|
I would have to say the 70s :D
|
The 50s, no question! From all the stuff my dad has told me, it sounds like it was awesome. Besides, I think I'd look hot in a poodle skirt! ;)
|
I agree with Rudey. I was around in the 80s, and in my opinion, it was just NASTY. The music sucked, clothes were beyond ugly, and hair -- oh, I'm not even going there. Awful.
I would certainly not want to go back any earlier anyway because things for women in this country weren't anywhere near as good as they are now -- I don't want to be in a decade where women are expected to stay home & raise kids, because that's just not me. |
good question!
I'd prefer the 40's. :)
|
No 70s
I was a child in the 1970s. Repulsive clothing -- why in the world did InStyle show those leather jackets for fall?
Also, the jazz was very tasteless. The 1970s brought the rise of the electric keyboard and fusion, led by Bob James and David Sanborn. Ecch. Frankly, I like the decade I'm in today, even though I do admire fashion of the 1950s. :p |
The Late 60s and early 70s. I am a flower child at heart, and ever since I could walk my parents & friends have said I belonged in that decade. Haight Ashbury, Woodstock, A VW Van, Flowers In Your Hair..... hhmmmm.....
Peace!! |

Back then at the SEC schools, and I attended 3, there weren't any hippies, unshaved women, unshowered people, etc.--it was just like today! Maybe they were dirty elsewhere but not there! Same thing for disco and polyester--they may have made big splashes in the media, but I assure you that most of us were wearing mostly cotton. |
The '80s :)
|
Yes, The 60's! Is that Bad!? I have underwear than most of you!:)
And Your point is? If that was the case why was I down for the mentoring Weekend and taklig to the house tonite? If you are a concerned Alum, Get Off Of Your Butt and get back with them! |

Favorites include Miles Davis, especially with Gil Evans, Charlie Parker, Shorty Rogers, Herbie Mann (I like odd-instrument jazz like flutes, French horns and the like), Modern Jazz Quartet, Dizzy Gillespie in an orchestral context, Wes Montgomery, Bud Shank, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Oliver Nelson. I don't have Buddy Rich in my CD collection, but I like his 50s and 60s work -- and I just heard his West Side Story on www.wbgo.org out of New York. Great stuff. I'm fortunate to have 200+plus jazz CDs, and to live in two areas where they have good jazz stations: KSDS (which stopped Web casting this year) and KKJZ, formerly KLON and Web casts at www.kkjz.org. |

You're absolutely right, Carnation. The fact is that students (not only Greeks) were much more likely to wear the equivalent "pin attire" (as it is called today) on a regular basis than the jeans and tee shirts which are the uniform of today's undergraduate on most of the campuses I visit across the country. I suspect most of the students of the 60's would be considered "preppy" by today's standards. As for communes, I wouldn't have known where to look for one. |
