Sandwich Shops
Ok, I'm pretty sure you all know a mom and pop sandwich shop you think is better than all the commercial ones, but I was wondering which ones you thought was the best?
Subway- Tastes pretty good, but too expensive for what you get. They raised prices just to make their new kinds of bread, which is just a white roll dipped in some spices. But good none the less. Togos- I think their meat's too dry, and the sandwiches are kinda small. Quiznos - I like the "toasted" angle they sell, but you can just get ANY sandwich and put it in your oven. Sumbarina- My personal favorite. Sure theyre kinda steep in price, but the sandwiches are big, and they arent shy with toppings and such. Well, you're turn........... |
The only big sandwich shops we have here is subway, tubby's, blimpies, and quiznos, and they all SUCK!
|
hey stan theres this REALLY good sandwich shop in PB... called PJ's, its on Garnet - you should really check it out! my friends and i are all obsessed!
xoxo chantillylace |
I've heard of that place from one of my bros that works at the surf school near the pier.......I outta check it out.
BTW, are you a Gammi Phi Beta at SDSU or one of the other SD schools? |
In Florida---
Publix subs Larry's Giant Subs Locally (Gainesville)---I don't know of any in Tampa yet Subsational subs |
I'm at USD
|
Oh cool.
Back to the topic at hand. I've never tried Blimpies but I've heard they're not so good. |
I may be in Maryland, but my heart (and stomach) still resides back in Pittsburgh where I grew up. My favorite local sandwich places there are Primanti Brothers and Rudy's Subs :)
Here in Maryland I haven't found any mom and pop places I absolutely love, so I enjoy Subway. |
I like Subway's stuff. The Vegimax is my favorite sandwich.... Looks and smells awful but tastes really good.
|
For all you Marylanders, there is a restaraunt in Crofton that has the best sub I have ever had. The place is called Rafters, it is on 450. It is a little bar kinda place. You can get the sub with ham or turkey and they put this kinda spicy sauce and they put it in the oven. We always get the foot long and take the rest home. It is just as good the next day if you put it in the oven for a couple of minutes. I really think you should try it!

In Chicago, Jimmy John's ROCKS! I also visit Subway.
|
Two Jays in Altamonte Springs, Florida YUM
I'm a Subway girl really love it. Reminds me of beach days down in Florida even when it's a cold day up in NYC. |
Around here there are, as you said, several "Mom and Pop's" ones that are good, especially in the North End and around Governtment Center.
As far as the chains - I'm a big Quizno's fan, but like Subway as well. I used to like DeAngelo's, but got tired of it pretty quickly. |

Yes!!! There is a Jimmy John's in Muncie. Love it! |
Down at Ohio U they have a place called the Pita Pit. It's fabulous. I would attend OU just for that place if I had the chance!

Hey, we have those (Larry's and Publix) in Charleston as well, and I was going to add these, but I was thinking they were too "local" to add. So glad to see that they are valued by others. How good are Larry's pickles, OMG!!! |
Definitely Jimmy John's or in Ames there's a place called West Street Deli. It's SO good! They have fresh-baked bread and then grill the sandwiches. And the bread is in big slices, not hoagie rolls. Yum!
|
i like sandwiches from the delis at safeway and nob hill. :)
|
At school there are nothing but chains. I love Panera Bread. I always get the Tuscan Chicken. Also, they have good soup and salads.
I also like Cosi, and Au Bon Pain |
My friend raved about a certain sub sandwich chain in Oregon. I tried it once and was SO disappointed. I could have made the same thing at home. Crappy, crap, crap. I'll stick to Subway and Quiznos.
|
I like Firehouse Subs, McAlister's and Jersey Mike's. McAlister's is really more of a deli but their chicken salad on croissant is really really good.
|
There is a small deli called "The Bread Store" in downtown Sacramento. There sandwiches are expensive but they are huge! Overflowing...
Their soups aren't bad either. I love La Bou though. I'll go to Quiznos on occasion. Subway never really fills me up. I'm always hungry an hour later. |

I like Subway. I only had Quiznos once, and it was good and toasty. Togos is good. My favorite is the Italian pizzeria across the street. They make the best meatball heroes and sausage and pepper heroes. Mmmmm. *drool*
|
in Houston, i love Jason's Deli
|
I'm a Panera freak

The city is gettng more white collar though, so it's not too much of a surprise. |
I HATE Subway and Blimpies! They suck a fat one!
The ONLY good sandwich shop that is a chain is Firehouse. They are great! They steam all their subs and they're oh so yummy! :D They are only in a few southern states right now. Check them out. Firehouse Subs |
I love Jimmy John's & Penn Station! Jimmy John's makes the best cold subs & Penn Station makes GODLY warm/toasted subs!
In fact, I want one right now! |
I like Quiznos, Jimmy John's, Panera (asiago roast beef...mmmm), and Corner Bakery.
|
I can live at Subway ....... i love that place soooo much....practically lived there during my pregnancy.... a sub way club on parmisan oregano with everything is great especially when you start mixing dressings.
but a mom and pop place there once was a place in glendora "Gene's Grinders" the BEST! then they sold out and the new owner relocated and the place has never beenthe same |

Jimmy John's all the way...I think there's 6 on my campus (including the one right across the street from my sorority house) so it's impossible NOT to like it! :D They also deliver w/in 5-10 minutes of placing your order. Except last time when we called for delivery to the sorority house, the guy laughed and was like "you mean you want delivery to the kappa house right across the street?"
|
I had subway for dinner. They gave me chocolate chip cookies.
