To Cherish Friendships With But A Chosen Few

Do you know.....?

Sisters, who dont really know each other, except for what they write on a message board. But treat each other like they were from their own chapter? Even as if they were family?

Sisters, who come to the aid of another that they barely know with tremendous letters of support?

Sisters, that when hearing about another sister whom is going through a difficult and trying time in her life send cards or letters of encouragement and love?

Sisters, who when on Ebay, will see that another sister is bidding on the thing that she wants but won't outbid her? ;)

Sisters, who write all the songs that their chapter sings, and you know each and everyone of of them are singing along as they write and read them bursting at the seams?

Sisters, who get along as alumnae and collegians?

Sisters who can put some pretty interesting post (*ahem* Real Play Movies) up and not have to worry about it. They know no matter how their sisters might feel about it, they're laughing at it right with 'em? ;) :D :p

Sisters, who get together just to talk two times a week? Ranging from the most serious to the silliest things and sometimes about nothing... for hours?

Sisters, who call, PM and email another sister who they barely know anything about, just to see how they're doing?

Sisters, who send each other little gifts? Not caring about cost or getting paid back. But did it, just because you're connected by the word "sisters"?

Sisters, who will stop to visit another sister when they're on a trip?

Sisters, who will come to the aid of another sister when she is helping the bonds of sisterhood to grow and share this with new sisters?

Sisters, who give advice to each other whether it's personal or dealing with the sisterhood? Sisters who you know you can always talk to and will listen when you need them?

Sisters, who will cheer you up or encourage you to go for something?

Sisters, who may even kick a little a$$ and police for you? ;)

Sisters, who can agree to disagree without pettiness? Who can get along, but not get along and still be cool?

Sisters, of all different economic, racial, and religious backgrounds?

Sisters, who aren't afraid to correct or put each other in check?

Sisters, that in a time where their bond is coming under fire, whether it's something that has happened in the sorority or some other thing, instead of flaming back, hold themselves in dignified manner and poise and state the facts but will admitt to mistakes if made? Holding up to everything their Purpose stands for? Holding truth inviolable, sincerity essential and kindness invaluable. Possessing high ideals and attaining somewhat unto them. Coveting beauty in enviroment, manner, word and thought.

I know a board full of them. This one.

Sappy and corny, yeah I know. But I have been thinking lately (especially today since we did a lil getting to know yourself and others activity with the kids today) who much we all do on this board for each other. Ranging from little things to big things. We always talk about how positive our board is, and it truely is. And with a lot of stuff that has been going on with us as a sisterhood and just indiviually, I thought it might be nice to remind everyone what we do for each other and that you can always count on someone to be there.
In all honesty, how many people would do or think about doing half the stuff that was written above or other stuff we may do for people who they barely know? Let alone people they actually know? Many people could only wish they could have people like this in their chapter let alone just in their lives overall.

Seeing what we do is why I am happy and proud to be in Alpha Gamma Delta :D

~@~ Red and Buff roses to us ~@~

Sappiness done! :p

greeklawgirl 08-23-2002 11:12 PM

Oh my God. I this this is probably the first time on GreekChat that I've ever sat at the computer screen and cried.

Tonya, you're so right. Thanks for the reminder. :)

Love you all so much! Need to go before I start crying again.

AlphaGam1019 08-24-2002 12:00 AM

Sniff Sniff

That was sweet! That is the message that we want to give PNMs going to Recruitment - no matter the sorority or fraterniy (okay, some of it might not fit the guys, lol.)

A sister is for life!

LiEP,
Lynn

LeslieAGD 08-24-2002 08:52 AM

I love you ladies so much! I am so proud to call you my sisters!

(red and buff roses to Tonya for this post) :)

Unregistered- 08-24-2002 09:11 AM

Tonya, I hafta agree...that was such an amazing post.

I read posts and PMs from my sisters every day, and it still amazes me how much sisterly love I have here on this message board alone.

You gals have been there in my greatest and worst of times, and for that I am eternally grateful. Sometimes it even seems like you all understand me better than those who I see every day.

I hope that this thread can serve as an example of how great it feels to be an Alpha Gam.

Let's make a promise to all meet up for Centennial 2004! I wouldn't have it any other way!

Lots of hugs and red and buff roses to my sisters!

greeklawgirl 08-24-2002 01:18 PM

Sandy/Nina,

Can we make this thread another "sticky" at the top? I think that this should be one of the first things any new GC Alpha Gam should read on the board. What Tonya is saying here is what Alpha Gamma Delta is really all about.

And they should know what they are getting themselves into here. ;)

Unregistered- 08-24-2002 04:16 PM

Great idea, Maria!

Thread is now sticky!

Lisa Fishman 08-24-2002 05:53 PM

Hi girls! Well spoken, Tonya! I have enjoyed "meeting" all of you on the boards. You all have encourged, listened and supported me thoughout my times on these board. It is wonderful to see a group of young women, who have come together in a just few short years to grow so close. We are spread out from Hawaii and California to Georgia and the North and Canada too. But, yet, we can call on each other for anything. This really does epitimise what the word sister really and truely mean. Love to all, Lisa

theta sig agd 08-24-2002 09:03 PM

I wanted to say something to wonderful to show how much I love my sisters, but I dont think I could say it any better than how you all have.

I love you all!!!:D

I think meeting at Convention is a great idea and we should do it!!!! I am willing to help anyone else who can not afford to go raise the money to do so!!!

sniff, sniff

DWAlphaGam 08-26-2002 09:41 AM

This was such a wonderful post, Tonya! I love all of these reminders about both the little and the big things that make our sisterhood so fantastic. I can't wait to meet all of you in Chicago in 2004! :D
Love and LiEP,
Donielle

Katey Alpha Gam 09-05-2002 01:49 PM

Tonya, That was an amazing post. I think it's so important to remember all of those things when times get tough. I love you all so much and I am so prud to be part of such a true sisterhood!!!!

GtownGirl98 09-10-2002 11:59 PM

This needs a write up

I was reading in the quarterly that you can submit articles or ideas and I think that the Q needs to do one on this board. I don't know why this board has taken off better than Alphagam.net but I think that Elisa has done a great job with that board. Maybe someone (and not me because I am jumbling this short little blurb up) should do one on the Ladies who are forming a chapter on the web. I mean think about it, we may not do ritual (but we all could if we wanted to) but we do meet weekly (if not more) and we talk about everything. This isn't a colligate meeting but I invision this to be an Alumnea group. I would hope that whoever choices to take up the idea of an article would include the first board and it's founder(s), along with this board and the bonds that are forming daily.

hawaiiagd 09-15-2002 01:44 AM

Wow.

ALPHAGAM02 09-16-2002 01:43 AM

OMG! That was incredible! It actually made me cry!

Unregistered- 09-18-2002 05:42 AM

I just wanted to share something that happened to me today...

I got a phone call today at work and before I could say "This is Sandy speaking..." my chapter sister interrupted me and said "Hey Sandy it's Katie...". I asked her "How'd you know it was me?" [since other people often answer the office phone] and her simple reply was:

"Because you're my sister..."

To many people, that sentence may seem simple, but in reality it means a lot.

I thought, as a new alum, I was going to feel out of place--out of place with the collegians because I was no longer one of them... and out of place with the alumnae because I was new and I always thought at alums were too 'serious' and that I wasn't going to fit in.

And then I have my GreekChat chapter sisters who reassured me that everything was going to be okay. I looked past my status because all in all, I'm an Alpha Gam...and whether or not I was a collegian or alumna, nothing could ever change my love and loyalty for AGD.

With recruitment coming to a close for Delta Sigma, I can see the excitement building up for my collegiate sisters and the PNMs. Me and a certain chapter advisor [who shall remain nameless--tee hee] almost *CRIED* in the kitchen during one of the events. Why? Because these girls were having soooo much fun decorating their items with OUR letters...and they aren't even members yet! To see them so excited to join our family really gets me emotional because I remember being a "baby squirrel"... and I'm so anxious to pass on our legacy.

And I think it's about time that *ALL* of our sisters around the world know about this special online chapter. I myself am not a good journalist, but I'd be more than happy to help create something to share with our sisters!

I love you all...because you're my sisters.

UMgirl 09-19-2002 10:05 PM

Great story Sandy and if either your or Arin would like to do the write up for our little "chapter" I am sure we would all be honored :D

urchynne 10-12-2002 01:17 AM

TLC

Just got back from Alpharetta/Atlanta TLC and wanted to post it.

I have been to 1 Convention, 1 ACT (like TLC) and 1 TLC. What is sooo amazing and reasurring (sp?) to me is having many of the same ups and downs, good and bad, no matter if the chapter size is 16 or 150 and that there are sisters to help solve problem, no matter the mileage difference. Also, what is totally cool is to see the older sisters (okay, I won't say what age starts being "older") laughing, singing and dancing. It gives you an idea of what they were like as awesome collegians.

Gatherings like these remind us as to why we became and stay AGDs. Always remember that you are judged as being a positive or negative model in and out of letters. So what kind of image are you giving AGD?

greeklawgirl 04-06-2003 01:00 PM

Wonderful story I just had to share. Yesterday the Los Angeles and Orange County Alumnae Chapters celebrated IRD.

After the program was done, we were asked to stand in a large circle around the room to sing Reverie. We were all able to assemble in place...except for one alumna member who must have been a 50-year member and was using a walker. She was trying her hardest to get up and join the group at the edge of the room but it was clear that she wasn't going to make it by the end of the song.

Imagine my pride when I saw a bunch of the brand new initiates from Delta Tau break formation and rearrange themselves towards the center of the room so this alumna could be a part of the circle without having to move.

I was standing between an alumna from USC and another alumna from Towson and we were all watching the same thing. Wouldn't you know it...all three of us started crying at the same time. It was just so touching. That's what sisterhood is to me.

I don't know if I'm even making sense right now, or if it was one of those moments where you just had to be there...but I'm getting all varklempt just recalling it. LOL

I love all my Alpha Gam sisters!

Lisa Fishman 04-06-2003 01:05 PM

Maria, That was a beautiful story. I'm getting varklempt hearing about it! n Lisa

AGDLynn 04-07-2003 09:13 PM

sniff sniff!

That was wonderful! I hope that they do that for me someday!;) :D

AGDLynn 04-29-2003 08:25 PM

As some of you know, I belong to a local Alumnae Panhellenic Council. Using the new AGD Directory, I sent emails to AGD sisters who live nearby. Some I knew, most I don't.

I got an email today from a GA who lives in the subd. behind me! She can't come to our annual Cinco de Mayo party Sat. but maybe she can walk with me and other AGDs in the 4th of July parade!!

Can't wait to meet her!!

AGDLynn 08-06-2003 11:15 PM

Called around on recs for pnms...turns out one lives across the street from the AGD but the AGD didn't know the pnm was going to THAT college!!

We talked for over 1/2 hour, lol. Hope to meet soon.

AlphaGammaAngel 08-07-2003 02:55 AM

I'm new to the forum and I've been going around reading the threads and that was the most touching thing that I have ever read. I always thought that the girls from other chapters would be so different from the chapter I joined. I had heard stories from some of my other greek friends who said they didn't get along with other chapters of their sorority, but I've been reading on here and I was in the chatroom earlier at 9 today and I feel at home here as much as I do with the sisters of my chapter. The sense of humor seems about the same and I found the "You know you're an Alpha Gam when..." very funny. I am very proud to be able to say that I am an Alpha Gamma Delta sister for life. L&L too my sisters all over.

AGDLynn 08-09-2003 05:52 PM

As y'all know, I'm from Gamma Tau (WGa). Another AGD, from UGA, and I had been planning for the last 3 months to get together. So Thursday we are!! Also, I've been calling, and emailing the AGDs in my town. There are about 20 of us, at least. I've gotten verbal commitments from 3 or 4 and left messages for about 4. Everyone I've talked to seems soooo nice and I can't wait to meet them. I'm still kinda shy about calling people I don't know..even sisters, but hey, it's been fun!

As one said "But I don't know any one". I said "Neither do we yet, but no matter the ages, we seem to always find something to talk about!:) :D :D

Tell y'all more Thursday!!

LiEP,
Lynn

Kristin AGD 08-11-2003 12:08 PM

I found this rememberance in the news. But I thought this would be best placed here. It reminds me that our friendships and connections made through Alpha Gamma Delta are for life, our lives and those of our sisters.

Excerpt[click here for full story]
Because of Corinne I pledged Alpha Gamma Delta at Tallahassee. I figured that if she saw the value in that sisterhood, I wanted to be a part of it. Her obituaries do not mentioned her fraternity affiliation. Yes, fraternity is correct. Somewhere along the line sorority became the vernacular, but that extraction is Latin, and in the Greek system the correct word is fraternity. So many from Lake Wales who were members are no longer living, so it is up to me to mention that part of her life.

i would like to apologize for my psychoticness in chat last night!!! i was a little concerned that my boys would blow it!! :D

GtownGirl98 10-07-2003 02:36 PM

Well I don't know how to feel about the game... I guess I am glad that Boston won so that the Yankee's can now beat them again... but I know that if the Yankee's lose to them then I will not hear the end of it until next year (boyfriend is a big Yank fan and will morn the injustice (or whatever)).

It was exciting, that is foresure!

Well... I don't really care... but I guess by connection I will have to say GO YANKEE'S!
