This year's Quota?
 

If formal recruitment is already done at your school, what was quota this year?
I'm just curious as to what my school is at compared to other schools. Quota at UCF this year was 71. :eek: I think that all but three sororities (out of 9) made quota.

UGA's quota this year was 59.

Georgia College & State University's quota was 43.

Have to thrown in the fact that Delta Zeta chapters at both schools made quota, and the one at GC&SU is now celebrating the largest Rush and the biggest pledge class in campus history! Woo Hoo!! :D :D :D

Auburn's quota was 64. I know ZTA took 68 - yeah! I don't know how the other groups did, though, sorry!

Quota at Valdosta was 26 and was 41 at Georgia Southern.

Recruitment starts tomorrow night here! Quota right now is 19 which is actually on the high side for my school... feel kinda' funny saying that after quota at other chapters posted here were more than the number of girls currently in my chapter (and sorority total here is 65) We've got 16 spots open, but since quota is more than that, we can go over total, woo-hoo! :)

I'd just like to add that AOII at UGA made quota, and Georgia Southern made quota +1!!

I've just heard that quota at the University of Louisville was 30. It's been in the mid 20s there recently, but I don't think it ever had been as high as 30.

Quota at Louisiana/Lafayette this year was 24. KD, DDD, & Phi Mu all got +1 for 25 total. AOPi and Sigma Sigma Sigma also on campus, but were not as lucky to get quota.

I think I heard at Louisiana/Monroe quota was 9....

Can someone please explain the whole quota-plus thing to me? Why set quota and then let certain groups go over it? I can't stand quota-plus because it favors the larger chapters and hurts the smaller ones. :( It always annoyed me on bid day and it never really made sense to me.

I was under the impression that quota plus was used to favor the smaller chapters. Correct me if I am wrong but this is how I thought qouta plus worked. Chapters could not get numbers above quota until all chapters reached quota. After every one reached quota the "plus girls" went to houses starting with the house who has the smallest house total, (if there is a match). I could totally wrong though. But our campus uses quota plus every year.

our quota on campus right now is 25... but that could change depending on how many more girls sign up for rush...

At my school, it's the opposite. The larger houses (who are the more popular one during recruitment) almost always get quota plus (or quota plus plus plus...I think the most they've gone over was 3), while the smaller chapters barely make 1/2 of quota if they're lucky.

How Quota is set

There are a couple different methods in the NPC book. Now, these are NPC recommendations but it's not a RULE or LAW that these methods have to be used.

#1: Quota shall equal the number of women accepting at least one invitation to the first or second round of invitational events divided by the number of chapters. For example:

Registered PNM 350
Accepting first invitational event 300
Number of NPC groups 6
300 div 6 - 50 quota
Accepting second invitational 279
270 div 6 = 45

#2 (This method is used when there are at least 3 invitational rounds including preference.)

Quota equals the number of women registering and attending the first membership recruitment function, multiplied by the average percent of women pledged during he last three years divided by the number of chapters.

Registered PNM 350
Number of NPC groups 6
Average % of women pledged last 3 years 72%
(1987 - 70%, 1988 - 74%, 1989 - 72%)
Number attending the membership recruitment function 325
325 x 72% = 234
234 div 6 = 39 quota.

Release Figures

NPC endorses a formula which College Panhellenics may use in recommending the number of invitations a fraternity chapter should issue to insure their own membership recruiting success as well as to provide an opportunity to pledge the greatest number of women.

Each fraternity may invite back Quota times the number of events in each event round, divided by its own average percentage of return for the last three years of formal membershp recruitment.

Formula:
First invitational
Events - 5
NPC Groups - 6
Women accepting - 203
Quota - 34
Percentage returns 95%

Quota x number of events divided by %return = number to invite
34x5 = 170 div by each groups' % return
34x5 = 170 div .95 = 179 to be invited back


Quota Additions

NPC continues to recommend that bids be matched to Quota only. It is recognized, however, that unusual campus conditions may indicate that some women whose bids fail to match in the normal bid matching process may be placed even if this puts a chapter over Quota.

Because most unmatched bids are a direct result of a chapter issuing more inivitations to preference events than it has a reasonable expectation to offer bids, Panhellenics using Quota Additions must encourage collegiate chapters to carefully observe the recommended release numbers.

The following procedures should be followed if women whose bids did not match in the normal course of bid matching must be placed in fraternity chapters that have already reached Quota.

1. No College Panhellenic may adopt this Quota Addtions procedure unless there is compliance with the College Panhellenics Committee's recommendation for release figures. These release figures are based on a three year statistical study as described on pages 85 and 86 of the Manual of Information.

2. The woman will be matched to the fraternity chapter she has listed on her Membership Recruitment Acceptance which is the smallest in chapter size, as long as her name appears on that chapter's preferential bid list, and that by matching her there that group does not exceed Quota by more than 5%.

3. This procedure shall never include a woman who lists an intentional single preference on her preference Membership Recruitment Acceptance or one who as failed to accept or attend any membership recruitment event for which there was room in her membership recruitment schedule.

4. No group may exceed quota by more than 5% of Quota. If 5% is a fractional number, the number shall be rounded up to the next whole number.

5. Quota Additions do not raise or increase the number of Quota and this process is only used during the bid-matching process itself. Quota Additions do not create Quota vacancies under any circumstances. Quota Additions are never involved in Continous Open Bidding.

Example: Quota is 50

Alpha Chapter - 75 members, pledged 50
5% addtion - 3
Total size: 128

Beta Chapter - 80 members, pledged 50
Total size: 130

At the University of South Alabama, it was 23. AOII got Quota Plus 1!

Thank you so much for that explanation! I was never VP Recruitment or involved in the bid matching process or anything so I wasn't entirely sure how it worked.

So I guess they don't have to wait until all chapters meet quota in order to do quota additions? I can see how that benefits the new members by matching them where they want to be, but it really hurts the smaller chapters, because those women who weren't matched originally are no longer available for snap bidding (not that anyone has accepted a snap bid at my school in at least the past 5 years or so).

I may have more questions later...

Quota Additions really do benefit the smaller chapters, because only the smaller chapters should be allowed to take quota additions if possible. Sometimes it not possible to match girls with the smaller chapters and rather than have a number of girls go bidless, the local Panhellenic will offer quota additions to chapters that have made quota. Remember, the smaller chapter can only take additional members, if that chapter appears on the girl's pref card. They won't match a girl to a chapter blindly.

I heard that Iowa State's quota is 23. Only some houses got 23 plus plus.

At Texas Tech University, quota was 54 + additions

I heard today that quota at Florida State was 59. Phi Mu ended up with 64 girls!! :) :) (sorry had to brag on my chapter) Anyway, I'm sure Barbara can tell us how everyone did since she's in the middle of the action down there...;) :p

I was told that the sorority quota was 21 here at the University of Central Oklahoma.

ZTA at FSU has a new member class of 65 and the chapter's return rates were very, very high this year. We also pledged several legacies and a lot of Tallahassee girls this year. Typically local girls go ADPi and I'm sure they still got their fair share of local women!

Congrats to all the new memberst at FSU. When I know more about who took quota, etc. I will post.

I stopped by to see the girls this weekend, and I found out that so far 111 women signed up for recruitment. That means approximate quota is 111/6=18.5 so far. Those 111 women were just ones who were at school early for summer activities over the past couple of weeks. There will also be tables set up in the student center today until (I think) Wednesday at lunch. *Keeping my fingers crossed for a large turnout!*

BTW, I'm going to be the only advisor for my chapter available to go to bid matching on Sunday morning (even though I'm Scholarship/Alumnae Relations Advisor), so I'm glad I asked all of those questions about quota. Thanks Barbara for answering so thoroughly! :)

Gamma Phi Beta took 68 girls.. I heard Pi Phi made quota (but I do not know how many girls they pledged), Theta took 40 girls... and that Delta Gamma cut really hard during ice waters, which may have hurt them (those were the two shockers I heard)... That is all I heard... and of course, I could be wrong about any of this...

So, please feel free to correct me!!!!

At Nebraska, Quota was 43 this year. I know that Tri Delt got 46, AXO got 53 and Theta got 49. I also know that Alpha Phi was the first to fill their New Member Class for like the 5th year in a row, but I'm not sure how many they ended up with.

There were a ton of girls going through this, and surprisingly few guys.

Quota at USF was 35. 3 sororities got quota, 2 got a little bit under, and KD got quota +1! We love our new members, they rock!

Quota for the Univeristy Of Texas at Austin will be 63

Quota at the University of Arizona was set at 57. Bid night is tonight.

Total was raised by 7 this year b/c there were over 650 girls going through rush this year.

As stated before, Alpha Phi was the first to fill their NM class, but they had to stop short at 39 b/c they reached total. I've also heard that PiPhi made quota, but haven't heard an exact #.

Ashley, I understand that DG made quota... It was Theta that pledged 40 (+/-)... I heard that DG cut heavily after ice waters, so some people wondered, in future parties when other GLOs had 70 girls per party, DG had about 40... (but only because DG cut PNMs heavily)... This is all through the grapevine only... It could be off!

Quota at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville was 48, and Pi Phi has 48 new angels!

I just received the recruitment results from the U of Arizona. Quota was 57. Nine of twelve chapters filled quota: AEPhi, Alpha Phi, ChiO, DG, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa, Theta, Pi Phi, and SK.
584 women received bids.

Quota at Lafayette College was 19 this year and there were no quota additions. We had 167 women sign up for recruitment, 54 dropped out, and 26 were not matched. Four houses made quota: Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi. Alpha Gam and Tri-Delta did not make quota. Alpha Gam got 7 new members from formal recruitment and so far, 3 COB's have signed. All of the houses were eligible for COB due to the large number of women dropping out from recruitment, but I don't know how the other chapters did through COB yet. I think formal recruitment went pretty smoothly this year because our new greek advisor made sure that all of the NPC rules were followed and there was no playing favorites.

Quota at Northeastern State University (Oklahoma) was 25. AOII extended 20 bids, Alpha Sigma Alpha made quota, Delta Zeta extended got quota plus 3 for a total of 28 and my chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma got quota plus 4 with everyone accepting!@

Actually chapters can take quota additions even if the other sororities did not make quota. I know of an instance where this happened last week. All 6 of the sororities made quota except one. However, three of the sororities that got quota, were allowed to add two. It is mind boggling to think this is allowed, particularly since one sorority did not meet quota at all. Any thoughts?

This frequently happens on campuses where they guarantee placement for all PNMs finishing recruitment.

I have never heard of Quota Additions before. Could this be the same thing as snap bidding after bids are handed out? That could always be done until the group reached campus total.
