Badges
The thread on "badges as jewelry" got me thinking about ways I can wear my Alpha Phi badge, and I have a couple questions...
I checked the Alpha Phi website, and it said that the badges can be worn as a bracelet or a ring. Do you know if we are allowed to wear them as a pendant as well? Is there a place to purchase rings and/or bracelets/pendants to attach the badges to, or would I have to have something custom made? I checked the Masters of Design website and didn't see anything, but I requested a brochure anyway. Also, is it okay to wear the badge on a suit lapel? I'm sure I have this information somewhere, but I can't find it and figured that one of you might know. Thanks!! |
I have no idea, but I am sure some of the other A-Phi's on this board may know. TechAPhi, lauradav, ivysis, any help? :)

Maybe this will help you out?

I know that Burr Patterson and Auld makes the Circle Badge Pendant; you can get them plain http://www.burrpatt.com/alphagammadelta/AGDLav44.jpg or chased (i.e. the squiggly design engraved onto the gold) http://www.burrpatt.com/alphagammadelta/AGDLav43.jpg The Gold Klad is $63.00 USD and the 10K Gold is $93 USD. www.burrpatt.com (I am recycling OohTeenyWahine's pics for this....) I am getting my information from my DG Badge Brochure, but the pendant can be used for ANY sorority badge (as long as it is permissible by the sorority in question's rules).... ******************* Another place that you could try is this company (below), but I should forewarn you that I have no idea whether they are still in business or not. I have an old catalog of theirs and they made rings to pin a badge through, and also the pin on Badge Pendants. They are in Chicago too, which is highly convenient for you.... J.O. Pollack & Company Inc. 1700 West Irving Park Road Chicago, Illinois 60613-2599 Tel (773) 477-2100 or 1-800-621-1904 Fax (773) 477-2521 Hope that this helps! Sigrid |
There is a catalogue for an authorized vendor of Alpha Phi where you can get the circle pendants to wear your badge as a pendant. My personal opinoin is that they are a bit large and not very young or fun. I will pick up a catalogue when I am down at USC today and post the info for you.
You can also wear your badge as a ring. I love the white gold badge with diamonds used as a ring with a plain white gold band. One of our fellow phis has this ring and it is SO AMAZING. |
Thanks for the information, Sigrid and Laura!
Laura, I've never seen a white gold badge. I thought they were all yellow gold, but I would love to get a white gold one. When I ordered my badge, that wasn't even an option. I would definitely wear a white gold one more often, because I almost always wear silver instead of gold jewelry. |
I just want my badge
Heck i just want my badge in my hands and get to November so i can get initiated. :) :):):)

Sorry it took me so long to stop and pick a catalogue for you. The company that I always see them in is the Alpha Gold Catalogue. (They are constantly dropping off catalogues at the chapter houses around here.) They have a Badge Ring (BR01) 10K, $160. They also have a Badge Pendant (BBP01) 10K, $130. They are not a licensed vendor of Alpha Phi products, but I would think their badge ring and pendant would work. Their phone number is 800-779-0695. Their webpage does not work, so I cannot tell you for sure they are still in business.
If you go to the Alpha Phi Marketplace , there are links to the authorized vendors of Alpha Phi jewlery. Masters of Design makes our badges and you can request a free brochure of Alpha Phi products from their page. Good luck! Laura |
Thanks, Laura! I just managed to get to the Alpha Gold webpage, but they didn't have the rings on it. I might have to give them a call.
I have the Masters of Design brochure, but at least in the one I have, they don't show anything at all to make a badge pendant or ring. |
White Gold Phi Badges
Hi valkyrie-
I have ordered a white gold Alpha Phi Badge through Masters of Design as I wear quite a bit of silver jewelry...I had my jeweler place diamonds down the wide side of the A for a very contemporary look...Should have done it when the badge was being made, but oh well, it's beautiful regardless and unique... I did do a bit of research to see if the badges could be in white gold (history, by-laws, etc...) and it was OK...I love it and wear it with my silver jewelry all the time. I felt really silly and a bit vain for wanting this, but, hey, it's my badge and I wear it quite proudly!!! I teach kindergarten and my kids like tracing the A...I even had a little girl who's name started with A want one...I told her when she was in college she could join a sorority, Alpha Phi, and get one!!! She looked at me funny and just smiled. It did take longer to make and cost a little bit more (not much) as it is a special order/fancy badge, but it was well worth it!!! Hope you can get one! AOE Maharet:) |
Back to the badge on a necklace question...one of the former IEB members had her badge mounted on a disc which she wore on a really thick gold choker-style necklace and it was STUNNING! So you could certainly have a jewler do something special for you if you aren't finding anything in the commercial catalogs which suits you.

I have been informed that white gold badges are available as dress or evening badges by our governing documents. They are only $10 more through Masters of Design, but I just found that out when I was at the EO a few weeks ago. So sad. I think my next present to Laura is going to be a new badge in white gold with pearls. I just think I'd wear it so much more than the yellow gold and turquoise.

new badge
Well I got my badge in the mail...WOOOO HOOOOO :). Now it is onto Initiation in November. Like LauraDav ( i have to use her screenname or it confuses me when i talk about me...hehehhe) said i think Laura next present to Laura is going ot be a new badge. When Laura gets out of school next yr finishing up her paralegal degree and is working again I am ordering the badge that has the diamond and pearls on it. The REAL NEAT ONE!My present to me. I already have marked what items i want from master of design!!!!!!!
Actually , I just can't wait to buy my first Alpha Phi ...whatever! hehehehehe:) the only things i have are my badge , which i can't wear til after intiation ,and the Alpha Phi cling on decal for my car that EO sent me. Laura |
Laura, that's so funny that you mentioned that decal from EO. I have the exact same one on my car -- the one that came with the alumnae initiation packet? That's too funny.
I'm not sure how many alumnae initiates do this, but I bought a bunch of stuff with letters -- tshirts and stuff, and I even have an Alpha Phi mouse pad in my office. I'm such a geek. :) I am SO excited for you, by the way! Initiation is WONDERFUL and I can't wait to hear all about yours. :D |

Eeek. I've been trying to remember where I got the mouse pad, and I can't!! I checked greek101.com and greekgiftsetc.com because I think I've purchased stuff from both of them, but I didn't see mouse pads. I'll keep looking, and let you know if I find anything. :)
|
Ahh, well it's okay. I guess I wasn't meant to have an Alpha Phi mouse pad. :( Hehehe, j/k. Thanks for looking though. :)

Badge
I have a gold pearl badge I got at initiation and I have a white gold diamond badge which I love. I wear my badges OFTEN and I wear silver and gold jewelry...SO I have one of each...I also am fortunate to have a regional pin (lazy Phi replica) as I am on the regional team for the PNW.
Last year I wore my pin to school...(I am a K teacher) and one of my little girls wanted one just like it because her name started with an A...Well, I told her when she goes to college, she can join a special group called a sorority and the one that has an A in the badge is called Alpha Phi! Geez, rushing in kindergarten!!!! I love each of my badges and wear them all the time - on bad days it gives me strength on good days it makes me feel glad! Sentimental yes, silly of course, but so much fun... AOE Always.;) |
Since my sponsor is going to be incommunicado for two weeks until she finishes a big project at work, will someone PM me the price list for badges? I'm impatient - what can I say! :D
Also - even though I'm not (yet) an initiated member, can I request an Alpha Phi catalogue from Masters of Design? |
Badges
Sorry - tried to PM you and comp froze....So I'll post a reply.
I paid about $235 for my white gold and diamond badge - my mom paid a little less for a yellow gold badge with diamonds and pearls (it is a pretty one!)...You can call EO and speak to Samantha about prices and yes you can get a catalog from Masters of Design...Look up their website www.mastersofdesign.com for badge options...Good luck. I know my badges mean the world to me!!! M of D is a very friendly company to do business with, but when ordering badges it has to be through EO - any other items you can purchase yourself...You can wear A-Phi letters now! Good luck and best wishes always. Maharet |

Thanks for the information, Maharet! $235 works out to about $370 Canadian, so it'll be a long time before I can get a white gold badge with stones. :) I'm guessing that the white gold badge without stones is less than that?

Wow, a white and yellow gold badge sounds beautiful.
I really want to upgrade my badge but it was an expensive Christmas. Also, I don't want to get anything too flashy yet because I don't want it to seem as if I'm trying to show off. When I'm alumni I'd really like to get the badge with the diamond in it... maybe lots of diamonds, but I'm not sure. I've been drooling over the Masters of Design catalog the past few days and I just ordered my chapter guard with my officer dangles (Historian, Athletics Chairman, and Chaplain). It was so hard to decide if I wanted the plain guard or the etched one and finally I just went with the plain (since the badge is plain). I have a question... in the Masters of Design Catalog they had a cross as the dangle for Chaplain, but when I got the A Phi-specific one the dangle was a candle, which was marked "Master of Ritual" in the general catalog. I ordered the Master of Ritual one anyway, because that really is what I do, and also I know that in the past some sisters have been uncomfortable with anything pertaining to religion and I didn't want to give people the idea that the office was a religious one (even though I am a Christian), instead of a spiritual one. Have you seen either of these on collegians or alumnae? I just thought I'd ask since I wasn't expecting it to be different. Anyway, I love our badge and I love our jewelry! :D |
Samantha at the office has the complete price list for badges and I know I have a copy somewhere around here but not handy. I *believe* getting a white gold badge is only $10 more than a yellow gold badge, but I don't think you can get a yellow and white gold badge. My understanding is that white gold badges originated as evening dress badges and that is why we are still able to order them. I have a yellow gold and pearl regular badge and a lazy phi in yellow gold with turquoise (I got it before I realized you can order white gold and pearls so now I want to order another badge).
Anyway, happy ordering! Laura |
astroAPhi...back in my day (which wasn't THAT long ago, right Maharet?;) ) the cross was more prevalent than the candle for chaplain, and the paddle was more prevalent than the clasped hands for the New Member Educator. I personally think it's just the evolution of political correctness, but if someone knows the story behind the trivia please share! There are indeed several offices which have alternate symbols used as dangles. AlphaGold shows most of them.

What is AlphaGold?
|
It's another company that carries general fraternity jewelry.
www.alphagold.com When I was a collegiate I bought all my stuff from them because they were cheaper, they had unique items, and frankly they bent over backwards for my business. |
