The "Carnation Twin" thread continued...
 

The girls called and they had tons of fun today! They met so many friendly members and laughed and listened and totally enjoyed themselves!

Tomorrow they go back to 5 parties...both will return to:

ADPi, AGD, ChiO, KD, and Phi Mu!

(alphabetical order; I don't know what order they ranked them in)

I wish I could be a fly on the wall! Oooo, I can't wait!:) :) :)

Just out of curiosity are they deciding where to go back together or each on their own? Just wondering since both are going back to the same places. Also do the PNM's just choose there or have they already gotten their invites back that quicK? Sorry about all the questions....wishing them good luck in my prayers!!! :D :D

I hope that they have a blast, although I have to admit, I am a little partial.. haha!
Tell them to have a ball and I am sure any sorority that gets these two is lucky!

I am so excited for them! I'm glad they are going back to Phi Mu, though I'm a little biased:D . I'm sure any chapter would be lucky to have them, and I hope they find the place that's right for them!

Oh my word, the suspense!!! I'm bouncing off the walls, I can't wait to find out where the twins end up! LOL, poor Carnation, how are you going to get any sleep this week? I hope the girls are having a blast. Keep us all posted!

The girls are doing much better than I am. They're loving every minute! I, however, am at home (because the college where I teach hasn't started yet) with a wild two-year-old who would prefer that I not get on the computer!

I don't know if they were together when they got their results (that was early this evening and then they went right to a movie with the Gamma Chis) but they aren't in the same rush groups. I cannot wait until Friday. Somebody give me serious tranquilizers. Even my husband, a non-Greek, said, "Crap! Now you have me addicted not only to their rush but now the rushes of all the local kids we know!" (UGa is in the middle of rush too and some of the local boys have already gotten fraternity bids!)

(I haven't been feeling well this evening and I've been lying down all night. This thread is the ONLY reason I've gotten my behind out of bed! Now that I know that they've enjoyed themselves AND are returning to AGD, I can sleep peacefully!)

I was curious though-are these whom they picked to go back to, or are these the houses they were invited back to?

Just for my benefit could we review the schedule/procedures for formal Rush at this college? I think there are some others that might be interested also . . .

Like is tomorrow Prefs?

Do they pick which houses to go back to? How many can they pick? Or is it invites? How many PNM's can they invite back etc . .


Sorry for so many questions . . just trying to get into the process.

Good Luck to the girls:) . . but how can a house say no? At least some of them have to be aware of GC by now and probably this thread . . . and the thousands of Greeks rooting for the girls . . . talk about pressure lol.

okay, this is basicly what happens (correct me if I'm wrong)

sororities make their cuts, turn in their lists....

PNM's look at who invited them back and from there, they made whatever cuts (or not)

For example....

Suzy found out she got invited back to all 6 sororities for the next day. Since the next day you can only go to 5 parities, Suzy has to decide which one (or more if she wishes) she wants to cut. If Suzy has 5 or less invites, she can decide to accept all or cut.

So there is a kind of matching even before prefs? How do they determine how many PNM's each sorority can invite back to the parties pre-pref?

ACK!!! i'm gonna be in Hawaii on Friday and won't find out until the 23rd what happens!!!! OH NOOOOO! ha ha

James, the answer to your question is ... a pain in the rear end. It's more sorority rush math. Basically, the more girls in the past who have chosen to come back to ABC's party, the more girls ABC has to cut. If ABC is really popular and girls never cut them, whereas many girls are uninterested in XYZ, XYZ can invite more girls back than can ABC - the theory being the same number of girls will be at their parties in the end. But if XYZ is allowed to invite back 100 girls, they are allowed to invite fewer if they want to. (For example, if XYZ has had very poor rushes in the past and is required to make hardly any cuts, they still should, just so they look like they are choosing their sisters and not taking all comers.)

So glad your twins are enjoying recruitment! I'm enjoying living it again through their experience! Carnation, thanks so much for including everyone, it's incredibly generous of you.
And like other GCers have said about their own chapters, I'm happy to see they'll be going back to my beloved ADPi for the next event!

Generally if PNMs are ranking as well as the sororities this is done independently of each other and the PNM does not know who has cut them before they rank.

After each round the PNM will get a scantron (if the school is advanced) and she will rank all of the sororities that she went to that day. The scantrons are then fed into the computer program with the sororities' cuts. It then works kind of like bid matching until the parties are full... If a PNM has been invited back to more than the acceptable number of parties for that day she can then choose which party(ies) not to attend but she must attend the max if she has been invited back to at least that many (say there are 7 sororities but you can only go back to 5, and the PNM was invited back to all 7 she would have to cut 2 but could not cut anymore). The only way she can go back to fewer than the allowed number of parties is if she were not invited back to that many. If a PNM does not go back to the maximum houses that she can or all that she has been invited to she will be dismissed from recruitment.

I'm sooooo excited that the twins will be going back to Phi Mu!!! This is making me remember my own turn being a PNM! Tell the them that whatever chapter they choose they'll be sure to love it!

this never occured to me before, but who created the computer program to make the pnm's sorority prefs and the actual ABC sorority's bids selectio work together on the computer?? I am a total loser for being interested in this?

I have been wondering the same thing, and also does it ever have any glitches?

The program we used was called "sorush", I think, but I don't remember who created it. (I wonder if they've had to change the name to "sorecruitment"? ;) )

This must be one of those things that varies from school to school. We never rank ordered the sororities until we filled out our pref cards... we just saw who invited us back at each round, and made any cuts we wanted or were required to make. Then again, there are only 5 sororities... at a school where there are 16 or 17, rank ordering them makes a little more sense.

We also could cut sororities even if doing so brought you under the maximum number for that round. So if you were invited back to 4 sororities for round 2, and you were allowed to go to 3, and you really hated 2 of them, you could drop the 2 you hated and just go to 2 parties, so you didn't have to suffer through a party with a group you disliked. If you did so, you weren't dropped from recruitment, but you became a "bad rushee" and (I believe) ineligible for snap bidding and quota additions (just as if you suicided).

i was head rho chi the first year we used the sorush system....it's much easier then doing the old paper trail mess, but at the same time, we did occassionally find glitches in it. for instance, suzy PNM gets invited back to 5 of 5 parties, she can only go back to 3. She drops XYZ. The next day, she is only invited back to 1, even though the next round is pref. and the computer thinks SHE HAS to go back to 2. So it would spit out her card and we would end up having to do it by hand. but it didn't happen much.

The girls just called and they're through with parties for the day. They were absolutely bubbling! They loved everything and everybody and are aghast that they'll have to rank chapters this afternoon--I think about 5 PM. Then later in the evening, maybe 10 PM, they should get their invitations.

I told them that they can't go wrong with any of those groups and to just go with their hearts.

Tomorrow they have 3 parties in the middle of the day. Thursday evening, they have 2 pref parties. I keep thinking--in less than 72 hours, we'll know something!

You've done a wonderful preparing your daughters for this experience, you should give yourself a lot of credit. I think its great that they are "aghast" that they need to rank the sororities...it says a lot about what open minds and hearts they have! That sort of open and generous attitude will serve them well whatever they do. It also says how much they want a sisterhood and a Greek experience and are not just looking for letters.
I think it also says a lot about how good the chapters at Valdosta are, congats to all you Valdosta Greeks!

Carnation, I give you a whole lot of applause for handling this as well as you seem to. My gawd, they're not even my children and as the kids I work with say when they are getting over anxious, "I'm spazzing out" over here in NY. And as Marissa said, if one or both decide to go Alpha Gam, they might be getting spoiled by some GC ones from all over the country, lol.
It's great to hear that Ballerina and Blazercheet are having so much fun with rush. I iwsh them the best of luck and hope they will be happy in the house they may get selected to. It's obvious that they have a great Rush/Recruitment Coach (Hmm another term for Rho Chi)in you.
If all your kids go greek, how on earth are you and your husband going to remember what org. each is in??? And hey you'll have your own lil badge collection :D.
About the computerized system/scantrons. Michigan uses this system, although I am not sure what version they use. At UM after the first day of Recruitment at UM, the girls go back and rank all the houses in preference on the scantron. At the same time the sororities are ranking the rushees, and then everything goes into the computer and it goes from there. I believe this is done for Sets I-III, Pref. and the final list for Bid Day.
Does it have its glitches? Like many have posted before, just asked a girl who wanted XYZ and XYZ wanted her too, but the computer did match them :). Like anything it has its ups and downs.
