Sorority Women at the Rio Olympics
 

There are thirteen Greek women representing the USA at the 2016 Olympics.
Seven are Kappas, three are Tri Deltas, two are Chi Omegas and one is a Theta. Six of the women are from Stanford.

There's also a Pi Phi. I've added a few since the list was first published. The women's gymnastics coach is a Delta Phi Epsilon. The list is at http://wp.me/p20I1i-2Dv and it is updated as soon as I discover other GLO members who are competing.

The women's gymnastics head coach is from the Phi Sigma chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon!! We are so excited for her!

Add Hoda Kotb, DDD/VA Tech as she is there anchoring the Today Show!

Carrie Moore (a wrestling trainer for the ladies team) is an Alpha Xi Delta.

Nikola Girke (Sailing) is a Gamma Phi Beta and past winner of our Carnation Award. She's back once again representing the Canadian team.

I'm not sure which would surprise me more: that Michael Phelps is a Phi Mu or that he's a woman....

My apologies for forgetting to put the word "mom" in my reply. I think it's great that Michael Phelp's mom is a Phi Mu and NPC woman. I firmly believe that the power of sorority/fraternity women is incredible.

And I still rue not taking that typing course in high school!

Not participants or working, but I noticed 2 famous spectators who are Greek.

And just to throw in for the guys, Matthew is of course a member of Delta Tau Delta - UT Austin.

Please add Chierika "Coco" Ukogu of Stanford Kappa Alpha Theta - currently competing as a single sculls rower.

She's been listed under the Non-USA team members. There are several GLO members who are competing on the teams of other nations.

And a fun fact I did not know until 10 minutes ago - Katie Ledecky's mom is a Pi Phi from the University of New Mexico. (You may remember that Michael Phelp's mom is a Phi Mu)

I love that there are Greek women in the Olympics! I know that many Division I schools "dis-encourage" their women athletes from joining sororities. I am sure that this is not a written policy but passed down by word of mouth with many programs.

Katie Ledecky & Simone Manuel are both starting Stanford this fall. Wonder if the Stanford athletes at the Olympics that are Greek are already recruiting :rolleyes:

Although all of the Stanford sororities have athletes, Kappa has by far the most athletes.

As are his sisters Whitney and Hilary!

Courtney Kupets (a gymnastics commentator for NBC's Olympic coverage) is an AOII from UGA!!!! And, a Bronze winner at the 2004 Athens games.

Lucy Davis , a Pi Phi from Stanford, won a silver metal in her event and has a chance to win one more.

Katerina Stefanidi, who won the Gold Metal in the pole vault last night, is a Chi O from Stanfor., She represented Greece.

Jill Lugar Johnson is a Phi Mu and the mother of Steele Johnson.
