What's your beauty regime?
Hello everyone.. Have you ever seen a black women or one of another nationality who looks much younger than her age and you stop and wonder or you may ask "How do you keep your skin looking so smooth and young" and she say simply "Soap and water". I'm asking the question tonight what is your beauty regime is there anything that you do that has really helped your skin or any family secrets that mom or grandmother had that you've carried with you throughout the years. For me I love Ambi and mud masks. I used to put egg on my face let it dry and wash it.....seems like my skin would glow afterwards and I'd look like a peach. Any good or bad beauty secrets you've encountered?

8/10/2002 Wow I guess no one has any beauty secrets they'd like to share?!

Well I can say that my biggest secret is I don't use soap on my face I just wash with a terry cloth rag and warm water. But If may skin is oily from hair products, I use Mary Kay Facial wash called Valocity and it work to get the oil out.
I can also say that I use Plamers Cocoa Butter, the actual cream not the lotion and that works wonder on scars and blimishes and it keeps you skin smooth! Another secret is lip gloss! Keep them lips shiny! |
LOL, I'm late huh?
I don't like Fashion Fair's make-up, I usually use MAC, But I love the Botanicals face wash & toner. Afterwards I use Hidden Beauty night cream. If you have ANY pimples at night you will have ZERO by morning. It also evened out my exquizit skin tone. :p ;) :D

Palmers is a miracle worker! I want to buy stock in that company!

I use Cliniques 3-step system 2 times a day. I use their facial scub once a week. I also steam my face once a week. When I do wear make-up, the only make-up I will use is Aveda. That goes for powder, lipstick or anything else. I pretty much keep it simple and use baby lotion. Inexpensive and smells nice. I also like Nexxus products. Aveda is good for natural hair.

Facial Steamers
I use facial steamers every now and then. It works so well on my face. It'll bring a glow to my scene and really unclog any pores.
|
I use Mary Kay products to care for my skin, but M.A.C. for make up products. I think they're both great for the skin, especially African American women.

Clarins
I use Clarins for skin care, although it is expensive. I've used Clarins since 1993, when I was 29. :p
For instance, one night cream that was recommended to me costs $60. The good thing, however, is that they are generous with samples. Make-up is a mix. Foundation is Prescriptives Traceless, level 3. Powder is Sephora Artist, which sadly was discontinued, so I have to find new translucent powder. Eyeshadows are Stila, eyebrow pencil is Prescriptives, eyeliner pencil is L'Oreal. Mascara is Oil of Olay, blush is Prescriptives, lip liners and sticks are either Prescriptives or Club Monaco, w/Bobbi Brown gloss. |
Chanel?
Has anyone had any experiences with Chanel makeup. I know it's very expensive; but does anyone on this forum use the makeup?

Hey, I like this thread! Since I was out recently and nobody believed me when I told my age, I'll share.
Steeltrap, I'm with you with the makeup thing. I will wear whatever looks good on me, Lancome, Fashion Fair, Maybelline.... What I am sure to do, Onein a million, is to remove my make-up every night. I never go to bed with makeup on. I remove my eye make-up with petroleum jelly first and then I use cold creme on my face (Ponds or Suave). I have also used Fashion Fair's Deep Cleansing Lotion. To cleanse, I will use whatever is in the soap dish ;) followed with witch hazel. The moisturizers I have used and have good success with are Fashion Fair's. I have used the oil-free one in the summertime since I'm oily this time of year. The one and only utmost beauty tip I suggest for anybody (I learned from my mother who has never looked her age) is to constantly drink water, water, and more water. |

The older I get (not that I'm very old, but...), the simpler my beauty routine becomes. I wash my face with either a bar of Dove or Olay, or St. Ive's Clear pore cleanser with tea tree oil.
Although my hair is chemically relaxed, I usually just wash it and wear it as a curly fro. I've only worn it straight three times this summer. Actually growing the relaxer out. As far as make-up goes, I usually go with a natural lipstick and concealer for dark circles, then i'm out the door (every so often I'll wear a brighter lipstick). I've found that the best moisturizer for my skin (extremely dry in the winter) is Safflower oil, found in the cooking oil section of your local grocery store. Its lighter than baby oil, so it absorbs into the skin better. I spray it or rub it on when my skin is still damp. Its great. |

I really love Aveda and Kiehl's products. In the mornings, I use Clearasil Stay Clear to keep my skin clear of breakouts. But, at night I use Aveda cleanser and oil-free moisturizer. I also use their eye cream.
My biggest beauty rule is Moisturizing. I have combination skin that is oily in the T-zone. I live and die by oil free moisturizer. |
ambi
Ambi is best for me when I'm under pressure. If I don't use it I will get one bump whether it's here or there and one side of my face will get dark. But with ambi I can go through depression, worry, or stress and it won't show a bit. I'll still have that glow.

Skin Care
I'm all about the Clinique 3-Step Skin Care: Type 2!!!
About every other day, I use the 7-Day Scrub, and once a week, I do the Deep Cleansing Emergency Mask- both Clinique. I use MAC and Clinique make-up and I have used some Lancome products as well. Just take that make-up off every night and visit a dermatologist if you notice any changes in the way your skin behaves!! |

Where can a sistah purchase Hidden Beauty? I have never heard of that before? Here is my regime: Since I WILL NOT step outside my door without make-up, I have tried a few different lines and here is what I like: I currently use Lancome make-up, although I noticed on their website that they are discontinuing their darker shades ( BOOOO LOOOSEEEEEERRRR!!!), so I pray that they will introduce some new ones because so far this is my favorite. Clinique has the best mascara, if you want fuller, thicker, longer lashes. Its called Dramatic. MAC's lip gloss is the best one that I have found so far. I have tried Mary Kay's, Lancome, Estee Lauder, etc. and they just don't stay on. You have to reapply the color in 15 minutes. With Mac, once its on their, it doesn't fade away for a long time. For me, my skincare routine is as follows. I too have combination skin with the occasional pimple. A.M. - Wash my face with soap (Oil of Olay is my favorite soap for the body, face, etc.) then I use Neutrogena's Pore Refining Toner and Moisturizer. P.M. - Wash face again with soap and the Oil of Olay daily facial cloths. use toner again and instead of moisturizer, I use Retin-A Micro (a perscription cream for acne and to even out my skin tone). Since I have been using Retin-A micro, my skin looks 10 times brighter than before and more smooth. |

Well we all should know that true beauty starts from within, but on the outter parts I use Basis glycerin bar with multi vitamin formula. On a day when I am in a hurry I will use just plain luke warm water. Also, water and a WELL balanced meal helps too. :D
