As most of us on GC are/were college students and/or greeks, when night time occurs I know at least one time we had to face this decision.....when it comes to a bunk bed.

I like to be on top! :D

Ha ha, you KNOW we all have gutter minds and weren't thinking of bunk beds when we saw the thread title.

Anyway, tomorrow I'm moving into the Pi Phi house and sharing a room for the first time in my life. My best friend and I decided I should get bottom bunk b/c I'm more likely to fall off the top one and come to an untimely end.

Plus who wants to stumble in and climb up on a bunk after a night out? Just asking for trouble there. ;)

In the case of the bunk beds, I love to be on top! LOL!

bunk beds are no fun when you've had a few. I've never had to deal with it, but a couple girls in my suite sure did.
The one who had the top bunk was a tad drunk one night and got out of the top bunk, fell, and slammed her head on the desk. I can't believe she wasn't hurt- just a bump. She didn't even react when she did it, according to her roommate. Just got back up. I guess there is a slight advantage to her drunkenness- didn't feel the pain!

We are SOOO on the same page. My clumsy behind would have been falling off the top bunk from day one, lol.

Plus, you are right about the stumbling around thing. Say I have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. I am VERY groggy when I first wake up, so I would have a TIME trying to find my way back to the top bunk, lol.

All in all....I say BOTTOM! :D

I'm too clumsy I would have to be on the bottom most definately.

I am so happy I don't live in the dorms anymore. I had two roommates my first year. Well let's just say when you and the girl are drunk, it's funny climbing into the top bunk...all is forgiven. But when she falls out, knocks your roommates "spit cup" all over, and is no longer quite as drunk there is NOTHING funny about it.

If God forbid I DO get top bunk for some reason, I have no problem purhasing one of those kiddie gates...you know, the little things you put on toddlers' first beds so they don't hurt themselves? Noooooo problem. No one but my sisters has to see them! :D

Bottom!

When I was little I shared a room with my sister and we had bunk beds. She slept on the bottom bunk and I had the top. (Of course back then it was much cooler to have the top) One night I fell of the top bunk and fell on my other little sister who happened to be sleeping on the floor in our room that night. It didn't even phase me and I fell right back asleep on the floor. My little sister started crying though. LOL!

The only year I lived in a dorm, it had triple decker bunks. I had the middle.

I would rather have had the bottom. Do you know how hard it is to jump into that middle bunk with a load of beer on?

Definately the bottom - I am a very restless sleeper and chances are if I started on the top bunk I would wake up on the floor :).

Never had the chance, but always wanted to as a kid. I wanted to be on top incase the thing broke it would smush my sister-NOT ME!:p

The bottom for sure.. Coming back drunk and trying to climb up to the top bunk, is a recipe for disaster.

AOT - Always on Top...just kidding! (Although it's really funny when some people believe that our secret motto is "always on top." I'm sure the founders thought of that in 1897 :rolleyes: ) Actually, I prefer the bottom bunk, because in our dorms, the person in the top bunk couldn't sit up all the way without hitting their head on the ceiling. After a few rough mornings of doing this, the bed was un-lofted!

Neither! I detest bunkbeds. Either I'm on top and afraid of heights or I'm on the bottom and am claustrophobic.

In college, my roomie had the top bunk and she had satin sheets on the mattress. One night she slid right out of the bunk and landed on the floor next to me with a big thud. How traumatic! For her too, I guess!

One semester I shared a suite and we bunked our beds. I had the bottom.

In the house my sorority used to rent (pre-new house) I used to stay over quite a bit (was living with my parents). I had the bad experience of drunk on the top bunk...it's the whole getting down from the top part that sucks! It's a loooooong way down...

Top. On the bottom, the movements of the person on the top are more audible.

For the semester-and-a-half that I lived in a triple, I had the top bunk. We had a bunk bed and a single bed, and the princesses :rolleyes: I roomed with had to have the single bed and the bottom bunk. Luckily I landed a single mid-spring-semester.

I haven't seen dorms with triple-decker bunks, but I have seen fraternity houses with that arrangement. I've also seen "bunk" beds where the bottom "bunk" is a desk and the top is the bed... one wild night and your lecture notes are all over the floor. :p

I've only ever had to sleep in a bunk bed 4 times in my life. And never at school. Our residences did not have bunk beds.

I had the top three times and the bottom once. I actually prefer the bottom. It's easier to get in an out of. I'm far to lazy to be climbing the ladders.

Bottom, I am not that gracefull and would fall out. Even when 100% sober!

Back in the day, I used to like the top bunk. That changed my first semester at IU when I had the roommate from hell. Among other charming things she did, she had guys call her at all hours of the night. That wouldn't be so bad except that she slept right through it, and the phone woke me up. So I always ended up climbing down from the top bunk to pick up the phone. It was annoying!

When she moved out I moved down to the bottom bunk and have been a bottom person ever since. :D

I was never in a dorm with triple bunk beds but I did go on camping trips at a place where there were triple bunk beds. I took the middle bunk...the top bunk was just WAY too high for me.
Funny story: when I was at this camp on a fourth grade trip, one of the girls in my class flipped over her mattress and found that someone drew a large, anatomically correct picture of a naked man on the other side of the mattress! Needless to say, she freaked out. Of course all the rest of the girls had to get a look at it, but no one would go near that bed the rest of the time!

I lived with bunk beds all 4 years of college... I had the top one every time! I loved it.

I liked the top because no one could bother me. It was like my little corner. Sometime people didn't even know I was up there because they were kinda high and unless they were really tall they couldn't see me.

Freshman year in the dorm, we had tri-level bunks.

I was in the middle. Figures, huh?

definitly top. you can make it like your little secret hidaway, and set it up all cute with all your shit and no one can see it. you have more privacy and can hide from people down below. also, no one can sit on your bed, its alllllll yours!

Exactly!! I had top bunk in the dorms sophomore year and loved it! I never once fell off. I didn't have any problems climbing up after a few drinks either.

I can't sleep on the top. I'd fall off.

Actually I prefer not to sleep on bunk beds peroid.

i fell of the top bunk 4 times drunk. once i was sooo drunk they made me go to bed and i got my foot caught between the wall and the bed and while pulling it out, fell off onto my face, knocking me cold. when i woke up i looked like i got the crap beat out of me. then, later and drunk i was acting the whole incedent out, sadly really repeating it. :( then my roomate bought me a side guard as a joke. and while intoxicated i proved it didnt work on accident though. then i was drunk and still asleep aparently, and was getting up to go to the bathroom and forgot i was on the top bunk and just stepped out, and fell hard. from then on i slept on the floor. :D

I always got stuck with the top bunk until last semester, I had my own room out in the annex and I pushed the two bunk beds together and had a king sized bed. That was fun. :D

This semester we had our beds triple bunked and I was stuck in the middle bed which totally sucked b/c it felt like a coffin. Luckily the annoying roommate moved out so now it's just me and my little sis and we have a big room all to ourselves, so we unbunked the beds and both of us get our beds on the floor. Yay for that.

I used to love sleeping on the top bunk when I was a kid though, I had bunk beds in my room but I had my own room, so I could just switch it up every night, sleep up top one night, on bottom the next. Great fun. Yeah, I was a loser when I was kid.

Freshman year when I moved into the dorms I constantly fell out of bed b/c I move around a LOT in my sleep and I had no quite gotten used to small twin beds. Even worse than falling out of bed though was that half the time I would fall off I wouldn't even NOTICE b/c I was in such a deep sleep and I'd just take all my pillows and blankets down with me. So strange. :eek: :confused:

definitely bottom. i have a huge fear that i would fall off the bed. luckily the only time i had a room with the beds bunked was sophomore year for about a month before we unbunked them.

I've never slept on bunk beds in my entire life. I agree that the top is too high and the bottom is claustrophobic.

My sisters had bunk beds. I slept on the bottom a few times. I don't remember if I ever slept on top.

I always had bottom, just because 1) I'm a clumsy idiot and 2) I get up to pee in the middle of the night and 3) bottom doesn't make nearly as much noise as the top ;). Of course, my luck of having the bottom bunk wasn't apparent until my roomie and I moved into our new dorm sophomore year. The minute I heard the *THUNK* on the ceiling and a groan the first morning when she woke up, I knew I had made the right decision.
