Any Founders Out There???

Hey I was wondering if any of you all started your GLO from the ground up? If so I was wondering if you want to share your experiences for others who are starting/re-colonizing a GLO this fall.

Would helping recharter a house that was once expelled count?

PotentialPledge 08-08-2002 06:41 PM

I'm a Founder!

I'm one of 6 founders for our Charter at Humboldt State University. If all goes well, we'll be going up for chapter in October!

YAY! :D

I'm a chapter founder. I was a member of a local sorority that went national... lots of hard work (esp. since we had 10 members and the other sororities had 90-100), but we pulled off a major fundraising event, rushed in an awesome fall new member class (growing to 22 total members), and were chartered within a year of becoming a colony. Signing that charter was sweet :)

Tom Earp 08-08-2002 09:52 PM

Ha Braggin rites! I founded the Local BX!

40 % from Lamar, Mo homies ( Home of HS Truman ), 40 % kicked out of other Orgs!

20 % didnt know anybetter and were not wanted by anyother Houses!

Well that was back in 1965! Hell before many of you were born!:) We were colonized in 1966 and chartered in 1969 with LXA!!!!

If you did, be proud of what you did and it dont happen to much!

it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to follow through to the end! The rewards are the most fantastic in the world to go back and see what has come to fruitation!

My grand-big was one of the charter members of my sorority!

They went from colony to chapter in only one semester!

She said it was hard work, but well worth it to see how we have blossomed from 9 charter members to 70 actives and 30 alumna since 2000!

KDHoney 08-17-2002 07:42 AM

I'm a charter member of a local sorority that went national last fall. My name is even on the charter, which I think is just too cool! Anyway, we went through a lot of work last year, but it was so worth it and I'm very proud of how much we have accomplished in becoming a national chapter.

HeavenslilAngel 08-17-2002 08:46 AM

I am a charter member of my chapter. I was in the 2nd pledge class on my local which was cool too. As others have said it was pretty cool to sign the charter. :) It took us a year to affiliate with a national and on March 3, 2002 we colonized with ASA.

Kevin 08-17-2002 08:56 AM

I'm a founding father of the Mu Tau Chapter of Sigma Nu... Our 272nd chapter.

HI there,
I was a founding sister for my chapter at CSUDH. We started from the ground up and became the first NPC sorority on campus. It was a lot of hard work but I believe it was one of the best experiences of my life.

I am also a Founding Sister from the Iota Gamma Chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma!!! (@ CSUDH)

And like Carolyn said, it was A LOT of hard work, but well worth it!! We've won a lot of campus awards, for various things like... (drumroll please) Organization of the Year!!! Yeah for us... :D

If I had to, I'd do it all over again in a heart beat! Just seeing how many ladies have become sisters since our founding... It's really quite awesome!

To anyone that will be colonizing, re-chartering, or starting from scratch... Good luck!!! (take lots of pictures---you'll want to remember it later!) ;)

Fraternally,
Beth

Founding Sister of the Gamma Omega Chapter of Delta Delta Delta
1st pledge class of a local Alpha Theta Phi (only cause I didn't know they were forming a group!!)

It was awesome- esp having the national pres/executive board act as your pres for initation, and all the sisters who didn't know us, but still came to help us initate.
I don't know about anyone else's group, but we had trouble getting recognized at my school- so my best advice would be to stick together as a group, stand your ground, and don't let anyone tell you "give up- it won't happen".

CatStarESP4 07-12-2003 03:10 AM

I was one of the Founding Sisters of my sorority and our very first Alumna. Founded November 21, 1995!!!

me too!

I am a charter member of the Theta Tau chapter of Alpha Phi at RPI.

I went onto be the colony supervisor for the Iota Delta Chapter at University of Rhode Island...meaning I have signed two chapter charters!

little_angel 07-12-2003 06:37 PM

I'm a founding member of the University of Alaska, Anchorage colony of Alpha Sigma Alpha. We're hoping to sign our charter in November. If we do, we will have gotten our chapterhood faster than any other GLO on campus! :D

silly_me 07-12-2003 11:25 PM

i've been lurking this site for a loooong time now, but when i saw this topic i had to reply.

i'm a founder for my sorority; i'm assuming that when i say founder i don't mean it the same way as i suppose a national GLO would, meaning i didn't charter a group... we really did start from the beginning. without giving away the name of it, or where i go to school, i do have to say that it's an awesome feeling when the first class became my sisters. also, knowing that in the future if/when we expand future sisters and chapters will always know my name. it's a lot of hard work but i feel that all of it pays off, especially the respect i get from other greek orgs.

Time and effort

I am a charter member of my undergrad chapter at Texas A&M, Lambda Lambda. It took time and effort to get to charter status, but it was well worth it!!!

wishuweresigdel 07-21-2003 09:56 PM

I'm a founding sister of the delta zeta chapter of sigma delta tau at rutgers camden. it was one of the best experiences of my life. we are getting ready to rush our beta class after a very succesful alpha class!!!! it was a lot of hard work and it took us a year and a half to get chartered but after we did....it was amazing. those girls have gotten me through the hardest year of my life and i would do anything for them!!! if you still need some advice....feel free to im me on aim...bailey25mb. i went through it all so i can give you some advice.

zchi2 07-22-2003 04:18 PM

I'm a chapter founder of Zeta Sigma Chi Multicultural Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Chapter. It feels good to be a Founder:D

FAB*SpiceySpice 07-22-2003 04:27 PM

My chapter recolonized in 2001 (my freshman year) and I was a "founding" member of our chapter...the second time around. It's very cool though, we have our original charter from a way long time ago and our new charter from January 2002 that I and all the others girls signed. It was a very hard but awesome and fufilling experience and I wouldn't have traded it for anything. :)

amyleigh 07-31-2003 07:08 PM

I was a founder for the Theta Mu Chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma. We were installed Dec 1994 after over a year of hard work. It was a great experience. We had not been a local chapter beforehand, so we had lots of work to do.

It is really exciting to see the chapter now, staying strong and yet 10 years younger then us.

Many of the founders are still tight and hang out together, stand for each other as bridesmaids, etc. One of my founding sisters is hosting my baby-shower for me.

I am a founding sister of my chapter! My colony came in three waves, the first girls were from the spring of 2002, second (my class) from the fall of 2002, and the third from the spring of 2003 and all 50 of us signed the charter. It was awesome because the first to classes instead of having bigs and littles we have twins, so I have a twin and a little! Its awesome. I agree though, its a lot of hard work because no one knows what there office or job really entails because there is no one to watch and look up to. But my installation was amazing, I am the historian and chaplain, so I got to say Grace and the creed with our national president right next to me, its was incredible, it has made the whole sorority experience so much more meaninful for me.
