okay..sort of a spinoff of the other trading spaces thread..since so many GCers are fans of the show..

if you were on trading spaces ..rank in order of preference who you would want to do your room

1. vern - he is awesome, i love every single room he does..in fact my new room in NJ is gonna be kind of vern inspired :)

2. doug - he may be a jerk, and cocky..but he does a really good job, again, i don't think i've ever seen one of his rooms i didn't like

3. laurie - shes just so gosh darn cute, and has a great sense of fun style and use of color

4. hildie (i don't really have a reason for her, because i think i've only seen like, one or two of her rooms)

5. genevive - shes either really on, or really off...i love her retro-mod rooms, but when she decides to do those crazy down home country rooms i don't dig that at all..she's too hit or miss

and well, i'm not even gonna put frank on this list because while frank is an adorable little man, i think his rooms are always absolutely awful..they look like sherwin williams & walmart's craft section threw up all over the place..i don't think i've ever seen one of his rooms that i've liked

My friends and I have discussed this many times...

1. Vern - He always does a fantastic job. I love all of his rooms.

2. Hildie - Only if it is a bedroom. I love the bedrooms she's done (except for the white and orange room where she wanted to dye the carpet)

3. Laurie - I agree she's so cute and always uses great colors.

4. Doug - I really don't like him because he's mean but he usually ends up doing something that I like.

5. Genevive - Probably because I'm not really into the retro style look. At the beginning of each show I always think her room will end up looking good and then at the end she always ruins it. But I do like her graphic design work and how she uses family pictures.

6. Frank - I think I would die first before letting frank do one of my rooms. His rooms are always completely random and nothing matches and they are full of clutter. I hate clutter! I think I might let him do my kids playhouse though... :)

I honestly think I would run away if Hilidie or Frank showed up. They both scare me. The others I would trust a lot more. Gen- since she is young I think would be awesome. Now I definately would want Ty to be there too..:):):)

2. Vern (Vern can design bedrooms like no one else!)

3. Laurie (dining room or kitchen)

4. Gen (Gen, please please please re-create the blue and yellow kitchen from the hay disaster ep in my home. Please.)

5. Doug

6. Dez (even though she only did season 1)

7. Roderick (even though he only did 1 show in season 1!)

8. Unseen new season 3 designer Kia

9. Unseen new season 3 designer Edward

10. Paige (yes, I know she's not a designer)

11. Ty (yes, I know he's a carpenter)

12. Amy-Wynn (ditto above)

13-19. Import Laurence, Linda, Graham, Anna, Oliver, Handy Andy and Carole over from CR to have a chance.

That leaves Hildi, who could come in and visit and have lunch...but she wouldn't be allowed touch one single thing in any of my rooms. Not even the garage.

I haven't watched this show in a *long* while.. but I would have to say I wouldn't want that red-haired girl (sorry i don't remember her name!) redecorating my house.. she's a lil too wild sometimes for my decorating tastes...

Vern or Laurie. I don't think I'd let anyone else do it. And if the ugly chick who likes to make lamps (from season 1) showed up, I'd run screaming.

My sister contacted Trading Spaces, but my apartment is too small for them. :( I need a bigger place so I can meet my man TY!!!:D :cool: :)

I would love for it to be Laurie or Frank. I adore her accent and wish I could copy it and Frank is just so funny! And I would insist that they bring Ty because he is so YUMMY!!! I read in People Magazine that he is 37, single:) and never been married.

Probably Frank, Doug or Vern. I love what they do to a room!

1. Vern-I have never, ever seen anything he did that I didn't love.
2. Frank-only for the kitchen or a kids room.
3. Laurie-she's kind of bland, and uses too much pastel/plaid IMHO, but still, never messes anything up. What is it with her and ceiling fans??? GOtta keep those if your in West Texas.
4. Doug-a little off-beat, but with a few exceptions, I think I could live with most anything he does.
5. Genevieve-she seems a little difficult to work with, and is either terribly boring, or terribly weird (spanish moss on the walls? Rust?)
6. I'm with whomever said Hildi could come over for lunch. She frightens me.
I think Ty is yummy, but Amy would be fun to meet as well. I'm just glad Alex and Desi are long gone.

1. Vern - of course, because he uses a lot of colors I like and such.

2. Genevieve - I know she's wacky, but she does some really nice things too.

3. Laurie - But she isn't allowed to paint anything icy blue.

4. Doug - but he's not allowed to paint anything brown or movie theater style

5. Hildy - but she's not allowed to paint my couches pink!

6. Frank - I'm just not into the homey look.

OR, I'd just invite TY over for din din and a litte somethin somethin!

Genevive~ I LOVE her.. I think all her rooms look awesome. She's so cool and I love Mod and Retro. So it'd be perfect.

Vern~He's so awesome. He always does an awesome job...

Now right here I would usually say Laurie. But lately Frank has been getting away from his country clutter. I've seen a few rooms that i've really liked. I also really like Lauries rooms even though she's a bit annoying for me at times.

Doug~ I couldn't work with him but I'd like him to do my room. He's a prick but does good work.

I haven't seen any of Edwards rooms.

Kia~ She needs to learn that the show actually means it when they have deadlines and budgets.. but her room was ok i guess...

Hildie could not even come to my house for lunch. She would not be allowed on the block! I can't stand her!!!

1. Vern- his style is so much like mine. He uses sleek lines, classic colors, and he uses balance in all of his rooms. I LOVE his Asian inspired rooms. They totally ROCK!

2. Hilde- She is way too cool. I like how she's so inventive and bold. Seriously? Chocolate on walls? That's so funny!

3. Genevive- she's pretty hip and likes to use bold colors which I like. However, she needs to stay away from the 70's...

4. Lori- I think I will like her more when I'm older and have kids. She does a lot of floral and French Country-esque things, and I think I'll like it when I'm older.

5. Doug- He just seems like a jerk. And, I think he tried to be like Vern...but he never pulls it off.

4. Doug - I know he always says "we aren't doing what the homeowner wants, we are doing what I want" which is scary, but don't sign up for the show if you aren't prepared for scary!!!

Agreed on the Hildi luncheon. NO way I would let her do my room. I have NEVER seen a room of hers that I liked! Same goes for that new woman, Kia. Um, astroturf and plastic flowers for a bedspread? Rocks and bricks on a bedroom floor to stub a toe or break an ankle during a middle of the night trip to the bathroom? No thanks!!!!

1. Vern definately! He is such a perfectionist and I love his work.

2. Genevive: her works is usually pretty decent

3. Lori: Love her styles and color choices

4. Frank: I love his artist ability, even though it might look silly on the walls. I would definately want him to do a children's room (that is, if I had children).

5. Doug--not too fond of Doug, but his work is pretty good.

I totally agree with everyone else. I would not want Hildie under any circumstance to be anywhere near my house. I think that she does some of her projects because she knows that she can and that no one will yell at her. And I also hate the fact that she wears really expensive looking boots/shoes everytime she designs a room. We all know that painting in heels is not practical Hildie!

It's been a long time since i've seen the show since I don't get it anymore, but....

1. Frank - you may think he's crazy, but I kinda like it (I still remember that TexMex kitchen he did...)

2. Vern - just cuz he's cool and does good work (did you see him on Oprah last week?)

3. Doug - may act like an a$$ but does good work...(i think i saw the episode where he wanted to cover the stone fireplace and the woman cries like 4 times)

4. Laurie - safe and reliable

so i just saw a commercial for an upcoming trading spaces episode where hildi is going to be using FEATHERS on someone's walls... all i can say is i'm scared..very very scared.

I would be in HELL!

I am a complete control freak about my living area, color scheme etc and if anyone were to change any aspect of those without me approving every step I would have a fit. It was bad enough having a roommate who moved the furniture when I went away for the weekend.

That being said, Ty can bring his tools to my house any time. :p

i don't know what's scarier.. that or when she stapled fake flowers all over the walls of someone's bathroom! i must say, i would be pissed if that were in my home!

I just decorated my sister in law's bathroom, and I threatened to do this to her just for the heck of it.;)

1. Vern. I just love Vern. :) He does his thing, but he really listens to what the homeowners want and has done things he didn't like just because he went with what he knew THEY would like.

2. Frank. I love how much he uses fabric! He just needs to keep chickens away from my house.

3. Edward. I think I've seen one room he's done that I didn't like. I would be a little scared of what he'd decide to paint black.

4. Genevieve. I think Genevieve is awesome! A little too trendy sometimes, but usually awesome.

5. Laurie. I love he. She's always classy and elegant. I've never seen one of her rooms that I didn't like, but I could do without all the floral stuff.

I'd love to work with Kia. That was I'd know she wasn't decorating my house. Same with Doug. I don't want Hilde in my episode. Don't want to work with her, don't want her in my house.

I wouldn't want Carter decorating my house either, but I'd work with him just so I could grab his...

Oh, and I demand that Ty be the carpenter.

I wouldn't want Carter, Kia OR Hildi in my episode, period! I wouldn't mind Doug though. Many of his rooms have been classic and I've just adored them.

I used to be a TS fanatic. Never missed an ep, watched reruns willingly. Now, if I'm home and if nothing else is on, I may check to see what talent is in the ep and the location. If that info interests me, then I watch. I still miss Season 1, even with the horrific Alex (and to an extent some of S2, before it became all this forced drama with the rooms.)

The thing that always drives me insane with Trading Spaces is how often we hear this:

Homeowner: "Well, they can do anything they want to my room, as long as they don't...

a. paint the stone fireplace, or
b. cover the wainscotting on the walls, or
c. use the color brown, I like every color except brown! I hate brown!

Trading Spaces Designer: "OK! Let's get going! The first thing we're going to do is:

a. cover up the fireplace, or
b. glue stuff on top of the wainscotting, or
c. paint the whole damn room brown.

Seriously, people. I remember watching the infamous "brown room" episode (featured on the "They Hated It!" episode) and the homeowner must have told everyone a million times about how much she hated the color brown, didn't like it, never had, didn't even like it with other colors, SHE HATED BROWN! So what happens? They painted the walls dark brown and most of the furniture too. The room was u-g-l-y, even if you didn't hate brown.

My best friend and I both agree that Trading Spaces would be a nightmare for us, because we are both control freaks. But if a gun was held to my head, she's the only person I would trust with my house, and vice versa.

As much as I wouldn't mind watching Ty for 48 hours, and think that Vern is an okay guy, I wouldn't let ANY of them near my house without having an AK-47 in my hands!! Just like G8Ralphaxi said, the very thing you call off limits is the one thing they'd do!

I would definitely be a "They Hated It!" show in the making...

1. Vern -- I love his use of fabric and deep color.
2. Laurie -- Her use of fabric and neutral/pastel color is great.
3. Frank -- Definitely a family room man. I appreciate his themes.

I'm not too keen on the other designers. There is always room for Ty in my apartment though! :)

My mom is absolutely addicted to this show. I'm not though.

Alls I know is that I don't want Kia or Hildie to touch my room!

However, my room definitely does need some redecorating!

There no way in heck Kia or Hilde (especially after she painted a picture of her face :rolleyes: on someone's wall) would be let near my home.

If I was on the show, I would want...

-Vern: I've never seen a room of his I haven't liked. His rooms are amazing.

-Edward: His rooms are generally very classy.

-Laurie: I usually like her rooms a lot.

-Genevieve: Especially if she's doing my kitchen. She does kitchens so well!

-Frank. I love his art. Although I'd probably want to work with him. He seems fun to work with.

-Anna Ryder Richardson or Linda Barker from Changing Rooms. LOVE their stuff.

-Doug: When he doesn't do something off the wall his rooms are nice. But I would not want to work with him!

I do not want Hildi or Rick (new designer) ANYWHERE near my house. I would love Carter as the carpenter.

Or actually, Carter and Barry could just come to my house, forget all the designing. :D

Genevieve- bedroom/kid's room

I would love Vern, Frank, or Gen to design a room for me. I kind of like the new designer, Laura, too. Some of the stuff I have seen from her so far has been pretty nice. Hildi and Doug are not allowed in my house. I did not have a problem with Doug until his prision themed room. That was a little to much for me. Some things that Hildi does are nice but most of the time her rooms scare me.

Also I don't care who the carpenter is as long as Ty is there. It would be better if he was not the carpenter so then he could spend more time with me. :D

I would insist on Vern redecorating my home. Laurie or Genevieve would come in second place.

Hildy just scares me - I would have to beat her down if she touched ANYTHING!!!
