Okay I know I don’t post a lot anymore (Thanks Spam) but I’m home sick with the flu so I thought I would post my friend’s daughters recruitment story. She went through recruitment this past fall at a school in the northwest- and my friend knowing how much I love a good rush story awesomely shared every detail with me… The observations are “unfiltered” and the one thing I loved about her story was how harsh, silly and emotional her thought process was. Typical 18 year old!


So without further ado let me introduce you to a Looney Tunes Recruitment Starring our very own Bugs Bunny Rushee…. At Warner Bros. U. -- Bugs is one of those truly neat kids that I KNEW going into recruitment would not only be successful but be one of the odd ones that LOVED the process. She loves meeting people and is very personable. In high school she was very involved and her grades were outstanding. She was what we would call the “full package”. Bugs has a lot of Greek connections with her mother, grandmother and aunt all members of different houses.

There are 9 houses on Warner Brothers Campus and recs were highly recommended. I really loved how another recruitment thread I read posted how the PNM went about getting their recs so I have included that here…..

The 9 houses:

Yosemite Sam - this was a hard one for Bugs and mom to get-they finally found a neighbor who mentioned that a guidance counselor at Bugs high school had been one, so Bugs made the connection and she was more than happy to write.

Foghorn Leghorn- my sister-in-law (who lives in same neighboring forest as Bugs) was a Foghorn and wrote for her

Daffy Duck- Bugs has connections to Daffy Duck out the rabbit hole so to speak- This is Bug’s legacy house through her mother who is a very active alum. Mom filled out the legacy form and a close family friend who was a Daffy at Warner Bros U wrote for her as well as the local area alum president- Finally Bugs’ cousin Tweety is currently an active and living in the house at the Warner Bros U. chapter.

Pepe Le Pew- this is Bugs’ legacy house through her grandmother. Additionally a good family friend as well as a sorority sister of grandmother wrote for Bugs.

Wile E. Coyote - Next door neighbor was a Wile E. Coyote

Road Runner- a cousin of hers was an active at this chapter at Warner Bros. U and graduated in the spring. She and one of her sisters wrote for her

Tasmanian Devil- two cousins were Tasmanian Devils- one had served as chapter president and one is very active in area alum chapter- both wrote for her

Sylvester- Bugs’ aunt was a Sylvester- she and a sorority sister of hers wrote for her.

Porky Pig—EEEKS! Mom and Bugs were so busy trying to find a rec for Yosemite that they totally forgot all about Porky Pig!!! Thus Bug’s has no Rec!—



Day 1
Bug’s goes to all of the houses.

Foghorn Leghorn- Bugs said they were all so beautiful and tent talk has them as the smartest on Campus. Bugs liked the fact that the seemed to eat all their carrots and have high IQ’s and clear skin but wasn’t sure she felt like she fit in.


Pepe Le Pew- Direct quote from Bugs “I hate them- hate- I would rather die than be stuck there” (ahhhh said as only an 18-year-old drama queen can say). Bugs also said the party was a “horrible disaster in every single solitary way possible”- Mamma Bugs has no clue what this means but it didn’t sound good.

Daffy Duck- Oops Bugs is not in love. Mamma Bugs said Bugs was trying to hedge but could tell there was no instant connection. Bugs said it “wasn’t as bad as Pepe Le Pew, but it wasn’t great like tent talk made the chapter out to be.”

Road Runner- like OMG they had the CUTEST songs EVER!

Wile E. Coyote- Bugs was surprised to like them- Tent talk had them firmly as a “lower tier” house but Bugs felt instantly at home and talked about soccer with her Wile Rusher. She said they were all so nice and fun not at all like what everyone said they would be like.

Porky Pig- Ooops- Bugs is IN LOVE. IN LOVE. Everything about them was instant love for Bugs. Mamma bugs is kicking herself for forgetting about Porky in the rec frenzy.

Yosemite Sam- cool house but totally forgettable

Sylvester- They were “rude and B—chy” Bugs declared. They did have an awesome house she conceded but the girls were not nice at all.

And the last house of the day was Tasmanian Devil- who lived up to their name- they were very high energy and were lots of fun.

At the end of the Day Bug’s rankings were:

After getting off phone with Bugs, Mamma Bugs was telling Daddy Bugs about the day and said “wouldn’t you know the one she would be in love with would be Porky Pig the only one she doesn’t have a rec for.” Daddy Bugs casually says “oh Aunt Petunia was a Porky Pig I wish I would have known”- Mamma Bugs wonders if stabbing Daddy Bugs with a knife would get her sent to jail or if she could she be set free for temporary recruitment insanity. Where was Elmer Fudd and his gun when she needed him! A very rapid phone call was made to Aunt Petunia however Mamma Bugs does not have a good feeling that Aunt Petunia will be able to do anything about it at this point. Petunia seemed very vague on the phone. But of course Aunt Petunia is elderly Mamma Bugs reminds herself as she contemplates killing Daddy Bugs again.

Day 2- Bugs could return to a maximum of 7 houses, her schedule includes:
Porky Pig
Foghorn Leghorn
Tasmanian Devil
Pepe Le Pew
Wile E. Coyote
Daffy Duck
Road Runner

Bugs is excited that she has a full schedule all though she is upset to see Pepe Le Pew on her schedule. She isn’t too bothered that Yosemite Sam is not on there they hadn’t made that big of an impression and she is relived that she doesn’t have to return to Sylvester.

Today was house tours:

First house of the day was Porky Pig- whatever love Bugs felt for them yesterday was magnified even more today. From the house to the girls she met everything about Porky feels like home to Bugs. She said they remind her of all of her girlfriends from high school and said she was the last to leave the house she was so into the conversation she was having.

Next up was Daffy Duck- Daffy was better for her today she said the house was nice and the girls seemed cool, but she had an awkward encounter with her cousin Tweety- who apparently was not very friendly. Mamma Bugs told her that Tweety could be preoccupied since it is her first time on the other side of rush and not to read too much into it…. Still Mamma Bugs is worried that Bugs may be trying hard to like Daffy Duck so she doesn’t let her (and Tweety) down.

Third house she visited was Tasmanian Devil- Bugs declared that they had “the NICEST BATHROOMS EVER--- I mean like EVER!”

Fourth house was Pepe Le Pew- Bugs was dreading this house and its noxious smell- but was very pleasantly surprised when she was paired with a girl from one of her classes. They had a great time and the house itself was very “cool”. Bugs left feeling a lot more positive about them than the day before.

Foghorn Leghorn was her fifth house of the day. The house was as beautiful as the girls. Bugs had a really good time but again she couldn’t help but think that maybe she liked them for their image and not for the girls themselves. She felt “out of her league”.

Next she visited Road Runner- OMG like seriously they all must be theater majors. Their songs are SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!

Wile E. Coyote was her final house of the day. Again she had an awesome time here and loved their house so much. She said that she just felt comfortable and “at home” with the girls there.

At the end of the day Bugs said she had a hard time ranking them because she loved all of them and could see her self being friends with any of them. She didn’t want to have choose. She finally went with

And her Bottom 2
Foghorn Leghorn- reasoning that she loved the house and the girls but just did not feel like she could compete with them- she felt they were too smart and beautiful for her to be comfortable

Pepe Le Pew- Bugs kind of regretted ranking them in the bottom 2 because she had liked them today but her negative impression from the first day was very strong.

During her nightly debriefing with Mamma Bugs- Mamma took the time to tell Bugs that she needed to start looking past awesome songs and pretty houses reminding her that she was joining for the people. She told her to really look at what girls she thought she could be friends with and at the other girls that would be her pledge sisters. Mamma Bugs said she could almost hear the eye-rolls from over the phone.

Let me say the flu has not inhibited your ability to put words together! This is such a vibrant, clever and well-written story. I don't always read these, but I'm anxious to read more--please continue!

Loving this. Seems like a good attitude on the process and on the houses. Not sure how much Bathrooms should make a difference on a lifetime decision, but we were all that age once. :)

I'm ready for the next installment! I just spent the past hour in my basement with a tornado passing overhead and my phone just went off again with yet another tornado warning.....sigh......such is life in South Mississippi.
Hope everyone in Greekchat Land is safe and dry right now.

Ladybug12 HOPE you are safe! and yes Narahat the love of the bathrooms had both Mama Bugs and me on the floor laughing- oh to be 18 again!!! Okay trying not to drag this out but will leave you with a cliffhanger and finish it up in the morning... enjoy!

Day 3 Bugs could return to a max of 5 her schedule included:

Porky Pig
Longhorn Foghorn
Tasmanian Devil
Daffy Duck

Bugs is CRUSHED – absolutely CRUSHED that Wile E. Coyote cut her- She got into a fight with her next door neighbor who was going to withdraw from recruitment because all that was left on her schedule was Wile E. The girl said no one wanted to be a Wile E. and that they invited everyone back. Bug’s told her that they clearly didn’t and that she would have loved to have been a Wile E. and with that horrible attitude the girl didn’t deserve to be one and should drop out. Well we did always know Bugs was a little mouthy.

Bugs is a little bummed not to have a full schedule but is so happy with who she has left especially Porky- did Aunt Petunia come through with that rec??? Bug’s roommate suffered really bad cuts and was only left with Pepe Le Pew and Daffy Duck. Bugs feels very grateful for what she has.


Today is skit / sisterhood day.

Her fist house of the day is Daffy Duck- uh-oh – Bugs hated everything about Daffy today. She said their philanthropy was “stupid” and the girls were not welcoming… she felt very uncomfortable and unwanted here. She didn’t get the skit and thought it was on the “raunchy side”- with lots of sexual innuendos. She said the girls seemed mean and the skit came across like they were making fun of their philanthropy. She was completely turned off! Mamma Bugs is very sad and upset not only at the description of the skit and girls but also that Bugs does not feel the legacy love.

After her disconcerting visit to Daffy, Bugs heads off to Longhorn Foghorn. Bugs actually can not believe that she was invited back here!!! She is blown away by their skit and said that she really liked their philanthropy and said they seemed to genuinely be involved unlike Daffy who seemed like they were mocking the philanthropy instead of promoting it to the PNMs. Bugs is so happy that they asked her back.

Tasmanian Devil is next up- They pull at Bugs’ heart strings… she said she cried during their sisterhood speech and okay like OMG they have the BEST COLORS EVER!

Finally, she gets to Porky Pig- has Bugs mentioned how much she LOVES PORKY PIG??? Well she LOVES them. LOVES THEM. She never wants to leave. She loves their mascot, loves their philanthropy, loves the girl that rushed her.. love love love. Mamma Bugs is very worried about the no rec thing and that Bugs’ heart will get broken.

At the end of the day she ranks them

Bottom 2 (or one in Bugs case since she only visited 4 houses)
Daffy Duck

Bug’s roommate still has two left- Pepe and Daffy and hopes to return to both all though she LOVED Daffy today almost as much as Bugs had disliked them.

Preference day is here. Bugs can attend up to 3 houses. She and Mama Bugs had a long talk the night before about Daffy. Mamma Bugs understands why she ranked them last and assured Bugs that she is not upset. She tells Bugs that she must follow her heart and not choose a sorority based on how much it means to other people. Mama Bugs is feeling very low. She REALLY wanted Bugs to love Daffy as much as she has for all of these years but she said she thought she did a fairly good job of trying to be upbeat for Bugs.

Bugs goes and picks up her schedule. She has a full one!!! And OMG! OMG!! OMG!! PORKY PIG WANTS HER BACK!!! She is wild with excitement. She will also be returning to Daffy Duck- “DISPICABLE” and Tasmanian Devil. She is distraught that she is going back to Daffy and will not be going back to Longhorn Foghorn. Bugs calls Mama Bugs for a very long “angst filled” phone conversation demanding to know what Daffy’s legacy policy is and if she should just leave them off if she doesn’t want to pledge them. Mama Bugs cautions her about going into the ceremony with an open mind and made her promise she won’t SIP- she reminds Bugs again to pay attention to the other girls at the parties because those are the ones that she would be closest too and not to be turned off by one bad event.

Meanwhile Bug’s roommate is going back to both Pepe and Daffy and tries to talk Daffy up to Bugs telling her “how lucky she is” to be a Legacy. Daffy has been roommate’s favorite from the beginning and just goes to show Bugs how everyone is different.

Bugs’ first house is Tasmanian Devil. She has liked them all week and was expecting to be very emotional tonight especially since she cried at their skit the day before but something was missing. Bugs said she was so bored and unmoved that she almost fell asleep.

She heads from there to Porky Pig. Love bursting at the seams. She cries, the girl who prefs her cries she can’t imagine ever leaving. Ever. She knows she was born to be a Porky Pig!

Finally, she heads off with dread to Daffy Duck- Tweetie Bird picks her up and talks to her about how much she loves Daffy and how much she knows Bugs must love Daffy having grown up with a Daffy mom. Then Tweetie Bird passes her off to another girl who pulls her into a room by herself. The president of the chapter is in the room along with a third girl. YIKES! Bugs is very uncomfortable as they start asking her who else she visited tonight and why she should definitely rank Daffy number one assuring her that she “had the bid”. Bugs is VERY distraught. Bugs tells them that she doesn’t think that they should be alone in the room with her like this. Afterwards during the ceremony Bugs sits there dazed and confused. She is so turned off by Daffy that she wishes she could just leave the house right then and there.

At the end she ranks them:
Porky Pig
Tasmanian Devil
Daffy Duck

Bugs is unsure whether she should tell her Rho Chi about what happened at the Daffy house, she suspects that Rho Chi might be a Daffy and in the end decides to keep what happened to herself.

Bugs calls Mama Bugs and tells her how she ranked, what happened at Daffy and how she now wishes she hadn’t even ranked them. She tells Mama Bugs how sorry she is but she doesn’t think she could accept a bid if she is given one. Mama Bugs is ENRAGED at Daffy’s behavior and very sad at the same time. Mama Bugs assures Bugs that she will end up where she is meant to be and she needs to trust things and tries to tell her that she is not disappointed and upset but says she is not sure she did a good job.

Wow, what a plot twist with the behavior of Daffy! I sure hope it wasn't ADPi, although given their behavior I completely understand if we never find out who they were.

Bid Day—

Bugs wakes up the next morning and she was excited! Today she would find out where her forever rabbit hole would be. The drama from the night before seems to be forgotten. Bug’s roommate is more apprehensive than excited. She had returned to their shared rabbit hole the night before conflicted. She had gone in being totally in love with Daffy however said the scent of Pepe Le Pew had worked magical things on her and she had felt such a powerful connection there. She had not known how to rank them and in the end she ranked Daffy first but was secretly hoping that it was true that Pepe never took “no no no” for an answer. In the light of the morning Bugs feels better about what happened the night before at Daffy. She calls Mama Bugs ands says she will be fine where ever she ends up even if it is Daffy because she was flattered that they seemed to want her so much. Mama Bugs worry’s that perhaps Bugs might need some Prozac instead of carrots but chalks it all up to daughter being 18.

Bugs and roommate finally head to the designated meeting place where she first finds out that Rho Chi was in fact NOT a Daffy as expected but a Yosemite Sam otherwise known as Alpha Phi. Bug’s finally rips open her bid to find out that yes… there is a such thing as love at first sight….. and she ran home to Porky Pig!!! Where she was greeted with open arms by her new sisters and a floral arrangement from Aunt Petunia whose pin she was given at Christmas and now cherishes as an initiated member of…….




Pi Beta Phi…..



Roommate also got her wish and followed her nose all the way home to Pepe Le Pew otherwise known as Tri-Delt.

Mama Bugs is still mad at the Daffy chapter and is still sad that Bugs does not share her letters but Mama Bugs has bigger worries on her horizon as Bug’s younger sister, Little Red Riding Bugs is about to embark on an SEC recruitment next year… where Mama Bugs remains hopeful that perhaps she will one day get a Daffy after all…. Until next year….

It really has been a Pi Phi year, hasn't it?!

I am too lazy to do the sleuthing to discover the campus on which this story is located or the chapters involved. I would love some information!
