Where did you go on Pref Night?
 

I searched, but nothing came up although I can't believe this has never been asked before.

For those of you who went through formal rush, when you went to Preference Night (or whatever your school calls it), what two (or in some cases I guess three) places did you go to?

At my college, we are allowed to return to 2 houses for pref night. I received invites from ChiO, Pi Phi, and Theta. I went back to ChiO and Theta, and pledged Theta.

I went to ASA and to AOPi. No offense to AOPI's but I only went to them bc all the other houses cut me. NIce girls in that house on my campus, but they are more relaxed where as I am more into fashion etc--does that make sense?, but even ASA isn't like me I guess.

We were also allowed to only go back to two pref parties. I chose DZ and AZD. I pledged DZ...and I still cry every time we do our preference. It makes me so happy to have all my sisters :)

On Pref night I went to TriDelt, Alpha Phi and of course DG. :)

At UBC you go to 2 pref parties, I went to DPhiE and Kappa Kappa Gamma - you can probablt guess from my signature where I ended up :)

On Pref night I went to DG and Pi Phi, and picked Pi Phi. I had such a great experience with both houses during rush, but preference night really made my choice clear.

On Pref. Night I went to Delta Gamma and Alpha Phi. The entire week I thought I was going DG - every family member whom was in a sorority was a DG, my best friend had just pledged DG at a different school - but on Pref. night, I went to A-Phi first and just KNEW that was were I belonged. I still cry (and I am not a big crier at ALL) every time we did Pref night.

DG's were and are awesome, don't get me wrong... but A-Phi was my home!

I preffed at Chi Omega, Pi Phi & Alpha Phi - it was a really hard decision because I liked them all a lot - but in the end I knew I belonged at Chi O - and luckily they agreed!

I was prefed by DZ and Phi Sig... :)

I got invitations from DDD, XO and DZ and went back to XO and DZ.

Either way, I couldn't have gone wrong but I feel I made the best choice for me :)

as for me i went to adpi and sk. before i went through recruitment i wanted to be an adpi, becuase they had the cutest web page(i know a stupid reason) they are all sweet girls , but sigma kappa had my heart and as the saying goes "follow your heart". which is funny because our open motto is "one HEART one way" lol

At my school you are allowed to attend as many preference parties as you are invited to. I went to Alpha Theta Chi, Delta Phi Epsilon, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Theta Phi Alpha.

Alpha Gamma Delta & Sigma Kappa

My rush was during Sept.11. Anyways, I was one of 4 PNMs that got invited back to all 3 sororities.

I went to Chi-Omega and Tri-Sig.

My story is unique in the fact that I didn't go either one. My sorority AST gave me a snap bid the morning of bid day. So I never went to my sororities bid night, I actually had a "break" and there was a group of us that played cards with the rho-chis, while everyone else were at the 3 parties.

I got pref invites to ADPi, KAT, SDT, and KD.
I went to SDT and KD..... and of course went KD. I knew I'd be a KD :D No offense to anywhere else, but KD was the ONLY house that felt like home to me!

I went to prefs at D Phi E, Tri Sigma and a local, and obviously, went D Phi E :) It's the way to be! :D

I went to AGD and KD pref night and pledged AGD!

I preffed AXO and DG- it was a really hard decision for me, since one of my closest friends was a DG, and she preffed me. Their ceremony meant a lot to me, but AXO won my heart :)

I preffed Pi Phi, DG and Kappa.

I went to Alpha Gamma Delta, Kappa Delta and Kappa Alpha Theta

I pledged Alpha Gam!:D

I got invited back to Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Delta Gamma. Theta ended up giving back their charter the night before pref, and I was really torn where to go between the three that were left, but I ended up going to Kappa and DG. I consider myself truly lucky, because even though I wanted DG more (their pref night was AWESOME!), I would have been perfectly happy with either choice! One of the DZ's and I have discussed why I didn't pref DZ, and it was actually because there was one girl in it from my high school that I couldn't STAND (she was stereo-typical band nerd turned fakey party girl) and so I cut them because of that... and she ended up quitting the sorority!!!! I still feel guilty, but I know I was meant to be DG, anyway. Most of the girls in my pledge class preffed DZ, Kappa, or Tri-delt.

When I went through, you could only go back to two sororities for prefs (now it's three). I went to ADPi and, of course, ZTA.

I prefed Chi O and Kappa. They are the two unhoused chapters at my school. I was really afraid to live in a sorority house, so I droped the rest of them! Now, of course, I would love to have a place to live with my XO gals, but then it was different.

I went to Chi O first and was just wowed by the girls. I thought they were so smart and so increadible, and so not what I expected from a sorority. I realy liked who I had met and knew I was like them.

After ChiO's pref, I went to Kappa's and I basically had to sit for an hour before I was let out! Their ceremony was nothing like Chi O's was; they made us sit on the floor when they did their speeches.

Anyway, pref was beautiful then and is beautiful now!

i went to AXO and Alpha Phi...i knew i was going AXO...there was no question...i only went to APhi because i had to go to 2 prefs and couldn't cut them previously because i had less than the number of parties to go to.

I went to Alpha Phi, ADPi, and Chi Omega. I ended up putting ADPi first and that's where I am today! :-)

Pi Phi, DG, and ADPi...

They are all great places and I felt that I would find a home at any one of them... As you can tell by my screen name... I went PI PHI!!!!!

At my school, you could go to 3--but I only pref'd 2: DZ and AGD.
The choice for me was clear before pref night, but I wanted to make sure that I hadn't missed something. DZ grabbed my imagination from day one & their ceremony made me feel like I had finally come home after being away for a very long time (goofy, I know).

You could only have two- mine were XO and Gamma Phi Beta-

Chi Omega's pref party blew me away- total class to the end- I loved it and all the sisters!!!!


I will always be loyal to Chi Omega but I wish we had DZ at our campus- from GC- I've gotten to know many of the girls and they are total class too!!!

I preffed at Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu and Alpha chi.
I am an alpha chi now. :)
The parties were amazing and i was blown away at how sweet all the girls were. that was my favorite part of rush!

I preffed Alpha Phi and A E Phi. I loved the women in AEPhi but I was an Alpha Phi all the way!

I went to prefs at AXO, KKG, and ZTA. I ended up suiciding AXO-KKG and ZTA are great houses on my campus but AXO was the only place for me.

I have a question....since I've never gone through Rush....can someone explain Pref night to me? If you go through Pref and them write down which is your favorite one, and then they don't pick you...what happens?

Or how does that work? I read in someone's post "and luckily they agreed"....so does that mean that if you pick them, and they don't pick you, that you're out of luck at the end of rush week without a sorority?


aahh...the confusion!! :confused: I'm sure they'll explain this all to me during rush, but then why would I be in GC if I weren't so curious?? lol

I preffed AGD and DZ, too! The other one I preffed (we were allowed 3) was Sigma Kappa. It was tough, because I liked all three or else I wouldn't have been there. I was actually dreading filling out my preference card because I am notorious for being indecisive and I could just see myself sitting there for three hours trying to come to a decision. To this day I still don't know what made me choose DZ over the others...I think it had a lot to do with the fact that the pref ceremony was rather unique (I was like, "Wowwwwww" the whole time), but when I went to fill out my card it took about five seconds for me to put DZ as my first choice and I didn't look back.

I was invited back to phi mu, aopi and azd.....
i dropped phi mu and preffed aopi and azd! and now i am "so pround to be an alpha xi".....that was my cheeseness for the day.

Preference Night is the last round of recruitment. It is a much more serious evening...meant to impress the importance of sisterhood upon you. All the sororities have a ceremony, often with songs, candles, flowers and poems. It is a very moving and inspirational night. This evening is where you decide in what order you would like to rank the sororities that you preffed. You will NEVER forget your preference night! :)

Oh, my goodness, you asked the BIG question about bid-matching. Here it is in a *small* nutshell: The Quota system during recruitment theoretically guarantees every potential new member a bid from a sorority on the PNM's preference card. So, if you do not get your first choice, you should get a bid from your second or third choice. In the case that you don't match with ANY sorority (HIGHLY unlikely), there is still an opportunity for you to get something called a "snap bid."

Of course, there are rare exceptions to this...and I *know* that there are a ton of threads on the Rush board that addresses bid-matching and snap bids in much more detail. Just browse around!

BTW, I preffed Alpha Gamma Delta and Alpha Phi. Both were beautiful ceremonies, I would have been quite happy with either group. But Alpha Gam was my first choice, and I haven't looked back since! :D

Thanks greeklawgirl....but now I have another question(s)....

Do sororities 'rank' you, like you rank them? Or do they just decide to either drop you or extend a bid? Can the two sororities that you prefed give you a bid?....If not then how do they decide who is going to give you a bid?

Or is it that when they give you a bid, if you have them as your #1 choice, then you've automatically accepted???:confused: (can you tell that I'm thinking this over as I type....?)

And then what is this about suicide?? Is that when you only put one sorority on your pref card, and then don't get a bid from them?

Is it still considered a suicide bid if you are only invited to and attend one pref party and that is the one you bid? Are you still eligible for a snap bid in that instance?
