When fun nights turn gay
It all started as a fun night out. Every thursday night a bunch of us go out to a local bar and hang out. At first it was just us and the sorority girls, but word got around and before you knew everyone and their brother started hanging out at this bar. Tonight was the worst though. It was closing time and most of my brothers had already left, so there was about six of us left when the bar closed. To make a long story short, we got jumped by a group of about 20 guys, for reasons that I dont even know. It was a huge mess, there was even an AGD that got stuck in the middle( girl really impressed me, I had never seen a girl hold her own like that). This is the second bar that was ruined for us by these F*cking randoms that like to start shit. I hoping that these guys are at the bar next thursday, for we will be ready then. Lets see how they are when the odds are in our favor.

LMAO, "When fun nights turn gay", you're probably going to get flack for that title. Be smart, and don't go back next week for the "beat down". Things will only get worse.

Let me get this straight the girl got jumped to? Not to sound like a regionalist but I had to check your location; for some reason I wasn’t very surprised with it.

Damn Son, do I know how you feel.....
My brothers and I will start going to some little crap bar that gets no business at all hardly, and it's just like 10-15 of us, then the rest of the chapter will start going, and we love it because it's like a house party we don't have to clean up, just us and our friends will go...then other girls will start going...friends of friends...and it builds and builds...and hey, it is somewhat neat that because 10-15 decided to go to a bar, everyone follows suit....then shitty bar says hey, this is a moneymaker, and instead of super cheap beer specials like they used to have, they start carding really hard, charging at the door, requiring certain dress type....from pubs to clubs.....and then you get the bastards that followed you from one to the next and will start crap with you...our arch rival fraternity tends to do this....they've started 3 pretty big fights with our guys.....one with me...i mean i'm probably the weakest man alive...if they'd beaten me up...no point would have been proven....fortunately my friends and I convinced the guys with the pissed off guy that he was dumb, they agreed and left him to fend for himself so he left too. |

At least your at a bar
Hey man just feel glad that you were at a third party location. My house often has "small" gatherings of about 40-60 people. Of those about 25 or so are Sigma Pi's. Well these fools would roll up like 10-15 deep and try and start shit because we wouldn't let them in (we think they were in HS still). Anyway to make a long story short we rolled them the first time...they came back 20 deep and it just so happened that our Bro's from San Jose State we kickin it....we rolled them again. Next time they came back.....they stood out front of the house for about 4 minutes....until the bro's came out front. You would think after 2 asswhoopins they would learn not to mess with a fraternity especailly at their house!
I am a lover not a fighter, but some people just don't learn. Had they been cool about it then it would have been no prob. Anyway just thought I'd share |

You're absolutely right, "gay" can mean happy. But I'm not 100% certain that was what PiKA meant. I mean, he didn't seem to think he had a good time being attacked. Maybe I just misread his post ... he was so happy to be whaled on by some random guys.
Oh, wait, "whale" doesn't mean "beat," it means "large, sea-livin' mammal." You should check out (no, not like a library book) this great new concept called "slang." |

Personally I love it when people use the word "gay" to mean bad or lame. I would expect college students to find this vocabulary hilarious. |

[B]Why are you offended? Gay means to be happy. [B] Maybe in a perfect world -- which this one ain't. A lot of people are offended by this usage -- not just homosexuals -- and I think everyone knows it. If you want to argue semantics, I think you'd better pick an easier situation. I'm certainly not a trend setter, but if I question the use of the word, I suspect our gay (don't play games, you know what I mean) friends, brothers and sisters have a right to be offended in my opinion. I still seem to be breathing, so we aren't living in a vacuum here. Let's be considerate of how our words affect others. |
DeltAlum
DeltAlum is offended by the term "gay" there's a big suprise from a guy whose fraternity's national magazine is "The Rainbow."

Isn't it nice to know that some organizations still honor committments and value their history? Now, Tau 1819, you got a problem with that or are you just generally a jerk? Now, if you think that I'm going to react to, or be concerned about your insinuation, I have one thought about you..."beneath comtempt." Have a nice day. |
I love this thread
Finally some people are willing to come out and saywhta they really think....I personally think you should go back and fight with those guys again. The only time I dont care to get in fights is when my friends pick them for no reason, because really everyone is out to have a good time. I know I am. But if those guys picked it, then beat them up......Especially if they beat up a girl...as for the whole gay thing yall gotta really try to fight bigger fights if yall want to be respected as a group, really no one told yall to ride on the back of a bus.....Its just words and once yall realize that maybe your "cause" will be a lot stronger.....I really think there are to many people on this board who are to PC or posters who are too afraid of the PC peoples tongue lashings..... Words are words and who really gives a crap....
PS. Pika after a while these guys get sick of being beat up and go away.......It happens all the time down here...Not just in Detroit |
OK Tau1819...how can you call someone a dork that spends all their time on greekchat when you have obviously been on here quite a bit since I seem to be noticing you're name on almost every thread here!!!!!!!!! Lay off and get a life

DeltAlum
lets just face it the two of you merged because you were both gay. The colors are purple and yello, and the name is the rainbow. It's fine though, I don't see why you should be so offended when someone is talking about your sexual origin....

My posts
I agree, I truly do.

PiKA, please be careful! There's no doubt in my mind you'd be fine in a fight, but odds are you'd come out with at least a little bruise or something. And what's the good of that?
I know folks are saying your town's ghetto for letting an AGD be in the middle of it.... but the way I read your post she kinda ended up there. Where I'm from a fraternity's defense of a girl -- and later the respect you seem to give her, instead of slamming her for sticking in it -- would be admired. Greek love! ~ Jacquelyn. |

Wow, excuse me for saying a three letter word. I'm sorry if that word offends you but up here it is common slang.
|
I really don't think PiKA2001 meant any harm by using the term "gay" in his subject. Of course, he could have chosen another word, but I really do not think he meant any harm. Perhaps that word is commonly used in every day conversation where he is from. Who knows? Let's just :) and post regarding the main issue of his post: fighting.
Have a great day! :) |
Word terms change...if your offended leave....or adapt...I see nothing wrong with the usage of the word "gay" to mean bad or not good, just like i dont care if it means homosexual, which to some others is offensive in its self.....Get over it!!

And to DeltAlum and the others.... I'm offended by the word fat... could ALL the GCers stop using that word? Cuz if everyone has to stop using the word gay, then everyone shoudl have to stop using the word fat, and black, and white, and skinny... what else is there? If I went up to a black person who said something dumb, I'll just say "OMG ur white" or the other way around for a white person. Let me speak on behalf of many GCers when I say that we are sorry for using slang. We'll never do it again. I'm sorry but I say the word gay like 5 million times a day. Ur gay, that's gay, how gay... It's not referring to the homosexual population.   |
Good call, girl.

Whoa Tau1819 chill with the hostility!
::sigh:: can't we all just get along?? ~Rebecca "It's a PHI SIG thing!" |

You're offended because someone took a cheap shot at Detroit. I'm offended because someone uses a "slang" term in a way I suspect was meant to be offensive. I'm talking here about Tau, not whomever it was who started this thread because I believe that the originator meant no harm by using the term. What am I missing? Your point about some other words -- like fat -- is well taken. I think that most of us would not use a term like that when talking about other people in a public forum. That also is offensive. I think that using the term "gay" as slang, given its other conotation, is not particularly smart. It's usage in this case certainly isn't meant as anything good, is it? The use of specific words in slang is not the issue for me, though -- it's he context and intent behind the use. I do think it's fair to point out to someone that he/she might be offensive without even knowing it. Thest things can be very hurtful. Some mean-spirited kids (who weren't quite as athletically adept) started a smear campaign about one of our daughters. It was untrue, but at the same time very troubling to her and her friends. Especially during her formative years. Finally, I think it's important to know that the internet and even boards like this one are not immune to the law, common sense and human decency. Things like copyright and slander do apply. So, in the end, there's not much anyone can do, short of legal action, to stop anyone from saying anything. I do think -- again out of human decency -- that it is important to think before we post. By the way, regarding Detroit, I lived there and directed TV newscasts for five years. It's just like any other big city -- and I've lived in several of them -- it has its good points and bad ones. |
I wasn't offended by the diss at Detroit, more offended by the stereotype. And it didn't even really offend me, I was tryin to fix the stereotype, guess it came out wrong.
