Sorority Life Part 1 million
aight, i had to start a new sorority life thread, cuz the other one was just getting TOO long. i'm sick and tired of the jordan/candace show. i still say the show has no real substance. the half hour's over before anything really happens. they give us teasers to the next show that look really interesting to get us to keep watching and then they deal with whatever it was in the first 2 mins of the show and never mention it agian. it drives me nuts! yes i will watch on monday cuz i wanna see why jessica gets slapped. . .
|
Wait Jessica gets slapped next episode? I didn't see that! Oh man that is gonna be good. I swear this show it so bad its almost good. I am sick of Jordan and Candace too. I wonder if they made it to being sisters. I sure hope not they are both so annoying especially Jordan. I kinda felt for Candace though because she was trying to make efforts and Jordan was pretty mean when she insulted her. And when Candace said to her "you know not all of us can be as perfect as you are," that was so well said and WELL DESERVED! Cuz Jordan swears shes like all that but in reality shes just a wannbe greek joke. Actually almost all of the girls living in the house (besides the one with the really long blonde hair that we never see which is why I don't even know her name) are annoying. And the pledge mom (they call it master but I am sorry thats total hazing) always wearing the Greek101.com rhinestone shirt is driving me CRAZY!
|
I hate this stupid show. I am just so sick and tired of Candace and Jordan whining about how no one wants to get to know them, and no one makes an effort, but in return they don't either. I'm like, hello!! It's a two-way street, ya know.
But, I did get fished in, and will watch on Monday, because I too, am curious about the slap! |
Why does everyone say that the house girls are greek posers and things like that. I know a dozen of that type of girl in every house on this campus. They are sorority girls. Hell, even my chapter has them! So you don't like them that doesn't mean that they aren't really representative of what a sorority woman is....

Yea, the comment Candace made at the end of the episode about "people are finally starting to talk to me and try to get to know me." Maybe that would have happened sooner if you wern't always with the same 4 girls all the time! Oy... |
I love the show. I think Jordan is so great and I wish I could be more like her. She has a job, never complains about her schoolwork, and seems to have it all together. After last Mondays episode when she was crying because she is insecure, I totally felt for her. That is exactly how I am and a lot of people in my house too. People always tell me how I seem like I have it all together and always am smiling, yet no one knows what your life is truly like unless they do know you. All of my friends here that watch the show also love her. She and Candace are the ones that keep the show interesting.
Also, when you pledge a sorority you do form cliques of girls you'll hang out with all the time, and then girls you'll hang out with sporadically. Thats the same way it is with the girls in the house. Im sure that all of the other pledges dont all hang out together, they probably have grouped off too. And those 5 year old games do help you get to know one another, but all of my non greek friends now think that sororities are "lame" if they have to do that. |

more like her. She has a job, never complains about her schoolwork, and seems to have it all together. Never complains about her schoolwork? Well she said she was Poli Sci and I have no clue how hard Poli Sci at UC Davis is (I'm sure it's no cakewalk). But this stupid show has not spent one fraction of a second on the academic side of college life. It's like the little people at MTV's brains would explode if they tried to show the balance beteen academics and Greek life. One thing I'll give them credit for, they are doing a halfway decent job of showing what pledging in a quarter-system school is like (everything seems to happen at once, a stupid in-house retreat when you have three midterms next week, I would have snuck out for a drink too). |
I agree!
The quarter system does not make pledging easy in the slightest. Especially in the Spring!
Spring rush is normally 2nd week because p/r is during 1st week. So all the new pledge get to know each other activities are 3rd week and you have mid terms 4th week! Sucks beyond all comprehension. Then you've got all the philanthropies around 5th and 6th week. Like Derby Days and ISVT. :) (By the way, I'll be shocked if Mtv doesn't find a way to devote an entire episode to ISVT. Hundreds of sorority girls running around on a beach in bikinis. It's Mtv heaven!) Then throw in days like UCD's Picnic Day and UCSD's SunGod Festival. Your're lucky if you pass any spring classes let alone do well. :( |

MTV has always provided commercialization for their reality tv shows. What would they do w/o it? |
I am sorry but i just have to vent about this rediculous show. Everytime I watch this stupid show I get so mad! Those girls do not deserve to call themselves greeks! Why would you want to be in a group and then make fun of everything that the sorority does? That makes to sense to me. They were making fun of community service! That is just rude. If these girls were in my sorority I would think very seriously about not associating with my chapter. That might sound a little harsh but it is how I feel. Ok sorry about my griping.
Anne Marie |
Not to be mean or anything but a lot of people don't join sororities for the community service aspect.
I didn't join my organization because of the service projects that we do, I joined to meet new friends because all my friends from high school went away to college. The funny thing is while I was an active member I probably did more community service than anybody in my whole chapter. I know there are a couple girls in my organization that absolutely dread doing community service. I just remember telling them that a certain amount of service is a requirement...if you don't do it you'll be inactive. |
I'm not saying that I joined for the community service, my point is that they are constantly making fun of the things that the sisters want to do. If you don't want to do any of it then why are they there? I just don't understand why they are there in the first place.
|
How will I pass my three midterms that the professors had the audacity to schedule all in the same week?
A. Go out to the bar for a couple of drinks. B. Complain about it to anyone that will listen. C. Whine about having to spend time with your pledge sisters. D. All of the above. |

For Jordan, all of the above!!! |
bump. . .since tonite there's a new episode on. . .
|
You know what's scary? All the people on the MTV boards love Jordan and seem to think of her as the ideal pledge... eeesh!
|
KerriMarie... That's scary!
New episode on in about 20 min! (Did I just sound excited there? That's sad...) Quick poll: Say all the pledges that appear on camera were rushing your sorority, and you HAD to chose one to be a sister, which one would you pick? (I'm sure I can guess the two that WOULDN'T be picked! :p) I think I would go with Dede... she seems pretty cool (from the like, 30 seconds TOTAL she's been on camera!). Who knows, we haven't seen that much of her on camera! |
I couldn’t stop laughing through out that entire episode.
1.)“Ill hook-up with whoever I want to hook-up with” 2.) That one girl getting dropped during the trust your sister ritual. 3.) The UC Davis guy that’s 28, I hope he is a graduate student. 4.) Cockblock 5.) Leslie she really didn’t say/do anything funny I just wanted to mention her. |
This show is getting ridiculous...but I still keep watching!
That Sylvia girl was way out of line or slappying Jessica, all Jessica wanted to do was help. Maybe Sylvia is just trying to get some camera time...? Also....how much money do you think Greek101.com shelled out for these girls to wear so much of their merchandise?? |
Ah, I can just picture the secret meetings of the top MTV executives.........
Clone #1: Ah! Sorority Life is doing so well! It doesn't matter that the only people watching are Greeks who are sighing at how horrible an idea this show was, what's important is that we got ratings! Clone #2: Exactly! I mean, I'm sure the women who aren't in sororities have caught on that sororities don't REALLY operate like this, and that this is just another version of the Real World, but, we've got ratings! Clone #3: I've got the PERFECT idea! There's a local down at Intangible State University called Omicron Xi Eta, let's build them a chapter house AND a pledge house and create the Sorority Life counterpart! Clone #1: What a GREAT idea! We can manipulate everything we tape so that everyone will think they're just an Animal House, never mind all the good things they do in the community, no one wants to watch that, it's about ratings! |
fill me in!!
Ok so what happened on tonites show? I was at work :( and missed it
|

I did notice Jordan and Sylvia sporting Greek101 shirst tonight, but hey, it's better than Becca's red and gray one! |
Who were those people. . .
. . .talking with the pledges? Were they (gasp) SISTERS?
::sarcasm off:: Actually, it's good to see the sisters and more of the pledges on camera. I think Jessica picked the wrong time and place to 'voice' her opinion, but getting slapped for it wasn't cool either. I missed last weeks episode, but I can definitely see some relationship dynamics that are different here. |
Tonights episode was highly entertaining, at least for me it was. :D Sad as it was, I will admit I laughed when Jessica got dropped. Oops. As for the whole Jordan/Amanda drama I think it was really rude for Jordan to say all those things about Amanda, even though some of them may be true. It just looks really tacky to talk about your "friends" like that while you're being taped and then shown to millions of viewers, but whatever. The show has absolutely no point and nothing to do with sorority life in the least, but I keep thinking next week there will be something more sorority related. However from next weeks previews it sure doesn't look like it, but oh well it's an entertaining way to waste 30 minutes I guess. :D
|
My pick for a sister is a tie between Mara and Jessica. I can't say Dede just for the fact that we dont get to see her.
Does anyone else think Jordan is mad at Amanda because her lil sidekick is no longer taking any crap from her and has made a new friend in Candace ? You can't be the center of attention all the time sweety. Not that Candace and Amanda seem to be the best match from what the nect episode shows. |
I agree that Jordan is mad at Amanda because she's hanging out with Candace more, but also, I'd be mad too if people were continuously being loud and then didn't apologize for it.
And I laughed my ass off when Jessica got dropped! There's just something about that girl that bothers me!!! BTW, I didn't know that Sylvia was a pledge...is that the first she's been on? I've never seen her before. Anybody know? |
I can't believe that Jessica was so weak as to let Sylvia basically turn it around on her. I feel that Sylvia made it to where Jessica had to feel the guilt of what happened...what a bitch!
I also can't believe that there was nobody calling Sylvia in to discuss why she physically assaulted one of her pledge sisters. I mean, did they seriously tell them to just talk about it to each other on their own time and kiss and make up? I have started to like Mara. I hope that she doesn't do anything to mess that up. I have heard people say that she ends up dropping (on the MTV messageboard). |
I just have to bring this up....
Okay, I don't know if anyone has mentioned this....But what's up with showing other sororities letters in the opening credits???
|
Re: I just have to bring this up....

I've seen Delta Gamma and Kappa Kappa Gamma in the credits.
|
There are also KKG letters - you can't see them all at the same time, but you see the K and then something covers it up and you can see KG. It's there if you watch for it - it's really fast, I never would have caught it if I wasn't looking though.
It upsets me... grr! |

LOL, Damn Kevlar281, I can understand you not wanting older/returning students in your chapter . . . am I right?
You age discriminate? An older student can't be a valuable member? Where do you draw the line? But maybe you should cut them some slack if they want to get an education? Or do you think people older than us shouldn't be allowed a college education? Or maybe just not be allowed to hang out? Like its ok if they go to classes but they can't talk to anyone and have to go right home? You should bring it up with your student government, I am sure they would feel your pain lol. Edited to add . . . As a 57 year old Greek I would like to think I could go back to school with some degree of welcome . . .;) Quote:
|
Are y'all really upset about that?
Whats the big deal? They aren't making any claims or anything and the last time I checked using Greek Letters in a background is not blasphemy. Are maybe y'all are just caught up in the thread and are just kind of ventin'? Quote:

As for MTV's Sorority Life, sorority sisters don't slap each other. There is no excuse or justification for that type of conduct. |
Actually I might be putting words in your mouth over this, because I didn't see the current episode.
If you were merely quoting what the girls said: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Kevlar281 3.) The UC Davis guy that’s 28, I hope he is a graduate student. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then I do indeed owe you an apology and will assume that what you put there is pretty much a direct quote directly from the girls. In which case I do apologize for taking your words out of context and in a very strong manner. However, if you are just kind of going along with what they were saying and adlibbing it would very much look like you were making a value judgement on the age of an undergrad. *shrug* ITs pretty common. I'll watch it later this week anyway. As a general rule of thumb I am not much into discrimination or disparagement based on ethnicity, religion, sexual preference, age etc . . . but the other ones seem to get more defenders and quicker. In the Greek System I have noticed an unconscious automatic prejudice towards older returning students. I guess I should just feel lucky that I didn't fall into that category. So are you age conscious when it comes to undergrads? Quote:

I keep finding references to south jersey and the infamous line . . . but no map . . fatigue and a slow moving comp is defeating me and I will endeavor to answer your question tomorrow . . but I'll pm you the answer. ;) less I take the thread more off track:)
