I have a question...
Do your GOLs give your members give each other nicknames and if so how do you decide?

You usually get it from stupid things you do.....or from how you look, but they give them out at the end of your pledge semester....Some funny ones are
Brad "Mr Bigglesworth" Thompson, Cause he has Alopechia and cant grow hair
Brad "Beefy Tits" Cortez, obvious
James "Titliewinks" Clesi, not sure
Chad "Fat Sow" Fields, cause he is fat and looks like a female pig
Brad "Piglet" Fields, cause he is his biological little brother
James Mitch "Cumstien" Laughlin, from the movie Caddyshack
Jonathan "Moose Knuckles" Serigne, cause he wears tight shorts
and the funniest of all is
Chris "Pettie I blew my extra chromosome out my trumbone at band camp" Miller, cause he looks mentally challenged and played in band in highschool

Our nicknames come from our family line (whoes your big sis) we have the alcohols and the cartoons.... guess which group i am in... :)

My nickname is taint.

It comes from when 4 of us were driving from Edmond, OK to Lexington, VA one night, about 3-5 in the morning driving through Arkansas watching bugs go splat on the windshield. I said "taint" and my brother in the next seet started cracking up... So we discussed taints, grundles, etc... Somehow I emerged from the conversation with the nickname 'taint'...

Heh, I dated a Lambda Chi whose nickname is Shit. Try introducing HIM to friends and family!

BTW, he got the nickname when he went through...he has an eyebrow ring, so to remember him, the brothers just called him "shit on his face," which was later shortened to just "Shit." Needless to say, he wasn't crazy about it...

we have a ton of nicknames in my sorority. mine is just my last name. we have a girl nicknamed "goat" her last name is milman. one of my pledge sisters called her "millygoat" but it got shortened to goat. we've got all sorts of others but that's the best one! ;)

We call one of the girls in my sorority Glitter Girl, because during recruitment she had to miss a day, and so she wrote this letter that was all glittery, so that we would remember her. It worked, and we still call her glitter girl two years later!

During our pledge retreat we give each other names and they can get pretty crazy. We're not supposed to discuss what they are really outside of Pi Phis though. :)

Our chapter officially gives you a nickname immediately after you are initiated. (Our school decided that nicknaming pledges was hazing.)

Your Big Brother names you based on your actions and personality as a pledge. Sometimes there is a theme on the family tree, or a specific branch of the tree. My Big was "Nocturnal Colonel."

There are a lot of TKE's on my campus who's real names I don't know because they only go by there nicknames. I was introducing one of our new members to a guy called Cheeks, and didn't realize that I didn't know his first name until I tried to tell her what it was!

There was this senior at BU who was a delt and everyone called him shoe...but I have NO clue what his first name is! He even sat next to me at dinner when we invited the Delts over to dinner!

We dont pass out nick names because we feel that it is just plain stupid. There are a couple of people who have nicknames but they had those names before they pledged. It is a rare occurence when someone gets a nick name while they pledge or get initiated that sticks.

My chapter doesn't officially give out nicknames, but from time to time we have a few sisters that earn nicknames along the way...some were cutesy, some just plain tacky.

Mine was "Free Agent." 'Nuff said.

We don't give out nicknames as part of tradition but they just sort of happen. Like mine is J-Ho cause my roommate and I are both Jill with the last initial H so she's J-Ha and I'm J-Ho or Ho or Ho Ho. Which sounds funny but I answer to it....My best friend is Jackie cause she called this guy we know a jackass and he's like you know what I'm too nice to call you that back and so I'll just call you Jackie and it stuck. So now on occasion I call her that too, or just Jack so that we're Jack and Jill since were best friends, haha.
I have a lot of friends in AEPi and they give their all their pledges nicknames. The names tend to stick even after they are initiated. There is a Prince (cause he's from Bel Air), a Boner (don't ask, he hates it so most people call him Bonedawg.....and sadly enough I dated him!), Tubbs, Ace, Lunchbox....and those are just a few.

That I know of, my organization doesn't officially give out nicknames, however, everybody seems to have one. I don't know how the other chapters do it, but as for my charter... We came up with our nicknames throughout our New Member Period. We named each other according to habits, sayings, accidents, etc. In the beginning we tried asigning nicknames, but they all changed as we got to know each other.

So far we have: Choo-Choo, Big Mama, Ali, Fresa, Two Puffs, and No Shame.

We dont give out nicknames, but "one night at the sorority house" (its bad when stories start like this) we all ended up with animal names. There is:
Jaimu, Loricorn, Malardvark, Polar Blair, Stephephant, Abbigator, Rachalo, Emmadile, Davidillo, and me...Angiroo.
Angiroo isnt bad, but my fiances nickname is Goo (from HS) but his fraternity found out and it stuck throughout college. So we are Goo and Roo.

At my chapter, each big sister gave her little sister a nickname at initiation. Sometimes the nicknames were legacy meaning that they were related to the big sister's nickname or her family tree. Sometimes the nicknames were unique.

lol sounds like a sig kap thing... 'fat girl' is a big one in our chapter...

We get nicknames from our big sisses after initiation. Mine is Princess Leia because I always wore my hair in two bun thingies during my new member period. When we graduate we get another nickname from our little sisses or someone else close to us.
Some of the OX's at my school have nicknames that will never go away. I don't even know some of their real names.

We also give nicknames to Sororiy girls too....Some for teh ones we hate and some for the ones we like...Here are a couple....
Mama Turtle....She looks after us, and she is a DZ
Cockeye the Sailor Woman......She has a lazy eye and is snotty towards us...
Slim Jim....another one we hate, and she is tall and skinny
Ewok, or Wookie....She is nice but quite short and Hairy, two different brothers slept with her and got the nicknames Han Solo and Wookie Spoon(cause we figured he spooned with her afterwards...
Olive oil, cause she looks like olive oil
Kibbles and Bits, this girl got bit in the face by a Dog when she pledged, she was ok and face is still cute, but we love to call her that....
Catfish, cause this girl has a huge mouth, and big lips, and she looks like a catfish
Quarter slot, cause this girl has a large gap in her two front teeth
Butta head, cause this girl has the best body, and evrything looks real good....but her head

During informal retreat we decided to give our four Danielles different names and one was Dede and another was D, the others Dani and simply Danielle. That kind of annoyed me b/c I was called "Dee" all through high school. But my sisters call me Dee on occasion anyway.

PC 99 has a small group that goes by OCG (Outta Control Girls) and they have different nicknames all the time. A couple of my pledge sisters and I decided it was up to us to uphold their legacy so in Key West on Spring Break we thought up ROWDY (secret acronym, it's funny but pretty dumb).

Then we also have our Rapper Names. I'm ODB, and there's Trick Dani, Aminem, 36 Merchant, Kellster Rhymes, Stefdawg, and Dr. K.

My big sis's nickname is Sparkle Bitch. She can constantly be found wearing sparkles and....well....she can act like a bitch sometimes. It never suprises me when I am at a fraternity or out around town somewhere and someone is like OMG you know Sparkle Bitch!!

My pledge name was "Tu-Tu" because I'm somewhat overweight and one of the guys said "Hey, picture Stan ina Tu-tu" and everyone busted up laughing.

My active name is Animal because I can smash aluminum cans on my head and bite a piece out of them. One night One of my bros, Cracky, said "What was the name of the guy on the muppets who just acted wild all the time?" and my Big Bro said "Animal!" and the rest is history.

Can't be as bad as my pledge bro Nick. We were at a party, and a hot girl noticed his red hair, so she said, "is it red down there too firecrotch?"

So, "firecrotch" it was.......

For us nicknames just happen....I am know as Shawnna wanna, and to 'Nikki Sue' I am 'Shawnna Lou' . We have another Shawnna in our chapter who is always the last one to get ready for anything, so her nickname is Poke. My fiance's nickname in his chapter is House, a shortened version of his last name. When his little brother pledged they became Big House and Little House. Because Big House and I are engaged, I have become Future Mrs. House.

Wait, firecrotch has to be one of the funniest things I've ever heard!!! LMAO:D

We get nicknames upon initiation from our big sisters that usually relate to either your personality, appearance, attitude or something stupid you might like. My big sister and I did this dance to Copacabana for a greek week thing. She was Lola and I'm Lil' Lola. Then there are just those names that you get...mine were Jazz and Nine. Don't ask :)

Hehe, there was this really slutty redhead girl at school that the guys called Firecrotch.

The only person in my chapter that had a pledge name that stuck was my big sis. Her nickname was Petunia, but I'm not entirely sure about why. My pledge name was Snarf because I had a drink come out of my nose one time. And we always had an OG, or Original Gangster, in every new member class. This started the year I joined because they started with only 1 new member, so she was the original gangster. The title of OG usually goes to the most hardcore new member. :)

I know a few guys that had really funny pledge names. One guy was Bump, because he's about as useless as a speedbump. Another guy was DWT, for Dry White Toast, because they thought he was boring (he's actually really interesting and extremely smart). My boyfriend was Hoover because he gave me a huge hickey one time that took forever to go away. :p

Those are pretty funny nicknames. My nickname is baby, because I was the youngest in my pledge class.

It's funny how you don't know people's real names, you just know their nicknames. There are a ton of people on campus that I am friends with, but I have no idea what their real name is. It's more fun that way!

SO true. We call several people by their nicknames. I get called Animal often, My Big Bro is called Kuopp a lot, and EVERYONE calls David "Cracky"

I think Nicknames are funny and I'm glad that I have so many.
They all mostly came from inside jokes. But here are some of mine and some of my friends' names.
My best friend from high school and I call eachother Cartman because at first it started out being a mean name saying that she looked sick and then it became a term of endearment.
In college I became Nurse Betty from events from pre initiation, now every fraternity asks to see the "Nurse Betty" it's really embarassing.
A lot of girls I live with in the house are called by thier last names because there are so many of us we all have the same names. We had 4 Kristens in my pledge class. And they were all referred to by thier last names.
We have a J Lo because she looks like J LO
Rice because on Spring Break she puked Rice out of her nose
Barbie because she looks like a Barbie doll

Here are a few we have:

one of our alum on campus corporation (alumni who run everything) (which interestingly also has a nickname "campus cool") we call upsilon 2 cause he's really old.

My nickname is bulldog cause I look like abulldog in this one picture. or it used to be Ubermensch (Overman, Godlike, Leader)(I liked that one) It's not bad compared to some of the others.

Quasimoto - guy who went out with a girl with a back problem(hunchback was her name)(I know its a little mean)(its fixed now)

Muffy - he likes muff ryder but we just call him muffy or frantzy pantz (yeah its a guy). He really likes it... really!

El Duke' - Meaning commander in latin but we called him that because he was president and very republican and liked to tease him about correlations between him and david duke, and that he was redneck

Dub-D - as in WD as in wideD as in wide-dic..... well you understand. I guess it just never fits in.

Jedi Pimp - anyone ever been to romp.com? well this guy is Jake except without the corny pickup lines. Hence the Jedi pimp! Also, you have to play the Graduation part 1 and part 2.

Peepy Deepey - Used to be called Poopey Doopey casue his last name kinda rymed but got changed to peepy after wetting himself and acting like a jackass.

Dad - self explanatory

Batman - seemed to never be around at night

Samoa - his parents kidnapped him in the middle of the night and sent him to Samoa for a year as a punishment for being a bad kid. Not joking... true story. He came back and disowned his parents. Hence we call him Samoa.

just a few there... In our house you only get a nickname if you earn it.

My nick name is "sorority girl." Yes, this happened because a lot of times at least at Rutgers, and usually non-greeks will make fun of some girls but saying "oh what a sorority girl." Someone who is at every frat party...wears the little tight black pants, tons of silver jewlery...ya know totally stereotypical. Anyway, when I was a non-greek I was notroious for saying it all the time about girls I didn't like. I was totally anti-greek back then and would have rather eaten dirt than join any sorority. Well, I ended up joining Phi Sigma Sigma. Most of the sisters had known and hung out with me in my anti-greek days so one of the sisters said after initiation,"Guess whose a sorority girl now?" and the nickname has stuck. Now some of the sisters will jokingly call me that every now and then. Its all in good fun though. :D

I have quite a few nicknames...Clueless, Blairebear, Blairity-Blaire-Blaire (only one sister is allowed to call me that!), Ass (my roomie gave me that) and BH(my intitials). :)

We are given pledge names during Initiation by the Sophomore pledge class. Usually they are based on a funny story you told about yourself or some experience you had, etc. For example, a girl in my pledge class is 'wee-wee Weber' because she told a story about how she peed behind a public building during rush. Other times they just make something up that rhymes or goes with the last name.
BTW, how do you insert the greek letters on the bottom of your messages?
