African Americans & Marriage in Hollywood
 

They say that Hollywood marriages don't last long & one is hard pressed to find a couple that's been together longer than 5 years. How many African American couples are there that have lasted 5 years or more?

do both of them have to be celebrities?

I know Denzel's been with his wife for a long time,
Phylicia Rashaad and Ahmad Rashaad were together for quite some time
I think Will and Jada might be pushing 5 years

There are so few blacks in Hollywood, I can't even think of any!

WHITNEY HOUSTON and BOBBY BROWN. They have been married for about years which is about 7 1/2 more than I expected.

Maybe there's something to be said about being "crack-ish," as Jamie Foxx so eloquently put it.

In terms of long-running marriages, I would also include the late Sammy Davis Jr. and Altovise Gore (they got married in 1970, he died in 1990). I'd also put, of course, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, Bill and Camille Cosby and Carmen de Lavallade and Geoffrey Holder.

It's funny that you started this thread because I was just wondering the same thing. I was so surprised when I read in People magazine the other day that Vivica Fox and her husband are separating. They seemed so happy. (I know that everything is not always what it seems, though.)

Back to the subject at hand...

Angela Bassett and her husband ______ Vance (I can never remember his name) have been together for a while.

Oprah and Stedman have been together FOREVER!

LL Cool J and his wife have been together since high school.

I didn't know about Vivica and her husband. Didn't they get married a few years ago?

What about Spike Lee and his wife?

Then there is D L Hughley and his wife. In his comedy show he said they were together for like 10 - 12 years.

Also Duane and Tisha Martin-Campbell.

Then Regina King and her husband. ( I don't how long they have been married)

I'm digging people....digging.

Debbie Allen and her husband.

Debbie Morgan and Charles (Roc).

Babyface and his wife.

Grant Hill and Tamia :rolleyes: (I used to be a Grant Hill fan until he cheated on me with her....)

Oprah & Stedman aren't married!

Baby Face and Tracy Edmunds have been together for quite sometime now.

Ashford & Simpson is another one.

Oh, I almost forgot Tim & Daphne Reid.

I know of others, but those are the ones that stick out in my head.

They are no longer together.

Angela Bassett's husband is Courtney B. Vance.

I heard that Phyllicia (sp?) Rashad and her husband aren't together anymore, but I don't know if that's true or not. But I think that Steve Harvey and his wife have been together for a while. Walter Payton and his wife were together for a long time before he died. Terri Vaughn (LaVida Alize' Jenkins on the Steve Harvey Show) has been with her husband for some years now. Ice T and Ice Cube have been with their wives for a good number of years. Kelly Price and her husband have been married for a long time.

According to MY records, Grant Hill and Tamia have only been married for about 4 years (they got married the same year that my husband and I got married---1998).

Hey, I didn't know that Oprah and Stedman were MARRIED!!!! :eek:

Phylicia and Ahmad are now divorced. Oprah is not Stedman's wife.

Ozzie Davis and Ruby Dee!!

I believe they have been married for 40+ years. They are one of my absolute favorite Hollywood couples.

Boy...if i was about 40 years older, I would give Ruby a run for her money. Ozzie is quite a handsome man!!:)

Actually, Oprah and Stedman are finally getting married around the holiday season later this year.

Another couple that has been together for a while is Brandy's parents, although I don't know if you'd consider them Hollywood.

I hope you don't mind me butting in...

Oprah and Stedman can't be common law married b/c you have to live together to eventually end up common law husband and wife. He lives in the D.C. area and she of course in Chicago. And it depends on what state you live in. Some states don't have common law marriage at all.

Since when. I remember reading that they had marriage problems but worked through them and are now back on track. This was back when she released her album last year or late 2003.

I just read that Nicole and Eddie Murphy have reconciled and are no longer getting divorced (or she just put the paperwork aside for a minute to give him om mo' chance). They are vacationing in Disneyland at the moment . That doesn't necessarily mean a reconcilation per se so we will see how long this lasts...
