NCAA Football Preseason Rankings
These are the preseason rankings according to CBS Sportsline. Perhaps some discussion on why or why not these are good predictions:
1 - Oklahoma 2 - Texas 3 - Miami 4 - Tennessee 5 - Florida State 6 - Georgia 7 - Washington State 8 - Colorado 9 - Washington 10 - Ohio State 11 - Florida 12 - Michigan 13 - Louisville 14 - LSU 15 - Marshall 16 - Oregon 17 - Nebraska 18 - USC 19 - Alabama 20 - Kansas State 21 - North Carolina State 22 - Texas A&M 23 - Auburn 24 - Maryland 25 - BYU Any thoughts? |
I really have nothing to discuss except for the fact that I hope U of H wins at least one football game this season, preferably a home game.
|
Pre-season polls...well they're nice specualtions, but I don't read too much into them. After a few games we will be able to see through the hype and things will really start to fall into place.
The Big 12 is going to be extremely strong. This is going to be an especially hard year for me as a Nebraska fan with the rebuilding process :(, and with so many awesome Big 12 teams. If I read right half the Big 12 teams are in the top 25-wow! And there are others that might be breaking in as the season goes on (ex-Iowa State). I'm no expert though...I haven't paid as much attention to football the past couple of years. But when you live in Nebraska that's about all there is to talk about, so I guess I do know a little.;) |
Im sorry but the SEC is tougher than the Big 12 or any other conference. They have 6 teams in the top 25 and a couple of others who could be in like Ole Miss and Arkansas. The SEC is without a doubt the toughest conference EVERY year which is why they rarely have national champions. They end up beating up on each other.
GEAUX TIGERS!!!! |
I'm surprised that Penn State (PA) isn't on the list. Every year, it usually makes it on the list.....hmmmmm.....

They usually do pretty well, but I think last season was an exceptionally bad one for them. I'm not sure, but I think they were barely over .500? Can someone who knows how these ranking things work please tell me why Pitt isn't on that list? They had a great season, beat a couple of good teams and won their bowl game. Thanks! |

Last year, they weren't over .500 and they didn't go to a bowl game for the first time in like ten years... In my hometown, rooting for PSU, is pretty big, but I'm not a fan! But, hopefully, they do better this year! |
Oklahoma will certainly be number one because our son starts there as a freshman this year, and the people in the National Merit Office who recruited him told us so.
They wouldn't lie, would they? |
I don't necessarily agree that the SEC is the toughest conference EVERY year. It's generally its a toss up between the SEC, Big 12 and the Big 10(plus 1).
I am happy that Michigan is where they are, because whenever we arent in the top 10, we always end up in the top 5 by the end of the season. Keep us at 12 :). What I am surprised to see is Ohio State ranked above us and the fact that there isnt at most 2 more Big 10 teams. We usually have about 5 in the top 25 even if it is Pre-season rankings. I'm not suprised that Penn State isnt on the list. Last year was a horrible one for them and for the past few years (even though they were better than last year), they've been going down hill. GO BLUE!! Hail To The Victors! |
i hate to say it, but i think nebraska will be pretty bad this year, for nebraska standards. they dont have the players to beat teams like oklahoma and texas and others. i think nebraska will either go 7- or 8-3, maybe better if frank solich learns passing is a part of football and he needs to do it. texas will tear it up this year, i think they have a shot at the national title
|
Im not trying to start a fight, so no one read too much into this, but
COLORADO is ranked higher than NEBRASKA I also know that preseason rankings are pretty much crap, but hey, Ive waited so so long to see CU above Nebraska! I rushed the field last year (had been saying since my freshman year that they would finally win my senior year and I would rush the field). That was a great great day. |
Hi Ang...
Yeah, it's great to see CU ranked up there. Only problem is that they usually do better as the upset/spoiler team than as one that's expected to do well and actually pulls it off. Then again, they've rebuilt a lot over the last couple of years and it looks like Barnett has hit his stride.... Hope it's a good season! |
KT SNAKE, if you played the Gorillas we would kick your Butt!
How many teams have played in ArrowHead in KC, Look for the Gorillas if PSU, Ks to be in the Game that Night! Oct 17 th. For the Rest of you Football Pussys, Big 12. The Florida Schools have pretty Boys , the North Teams have Animals 0n the line, and what about the West Coast Wimps? Be Fed Good On Our Corn and Play Football cause they get practice throwing Hay Bails on the Wagons, hell 50 + pounds each! That anit know gym work out, that is just a days job!:D You SEC Pussys, anit nothing, every since Arky left for the SEC, dumb asses they very, they are nothing, well could have been the 9 th member of the BiG 8 or Big Nine! We in the Big 12 will once again rule the Football Worlds and More than likely the BB World! That is Bassket Ball for yall! |

If it wasn't it should be - Lou Holtz will take the REAL USC much further than Southern Cal this year, mark my words. Also - no whining about "beating each other out of a national championship" - that might as well be the Big 10's motto kids. By far, the most even conference in the country - only one or two real patsies on the conference schedule every year. Not a Baylor to be found. My predictions? These guys seem far overrated from preseason hype: -Marshall -LSU (sorry tigers, I don't think last year was legit) -UT (not national-champ caliber, but top 10) -WSU -Louisville -Michigan |
thoughts from a Nebraska fan...
I'm with the rest of my Nebraska fans on this one...Nebraska is going to suck (at least in Nebraska terms) this year. :( Anything out of the top five is bad for us, and we sure won't be anywhere near it this year without a miracle...and I'm not holding my breath. Best of luck to the rest of the Big 12 teams (except Colorado ;) just kidding), if we can't be on top it might as well be another member of the confrence.
Hey Hootie, so you went to Millard North...I have a ton of friends who went there! And I love Eric too :D--my roomie last year's future husband (she wishes :D ;))!! No one from my high school will be playing for the Huskers this year, so my best connection to the team will be my good friend/sorority sister/next door neighbor's boyfriend who will be a scholarshiped freshman this year (but he'll probably redshirt...so no watching him on tv). The SEC's a great conference. The Big 10 and Pac 10 I'll have to say are seriously lacking in talent when matched up to conferences like SEC or Big 12.
This season I would say that the Big 12 is probably a little more competitive than the SEC. I can see maybe 1 or 2 teams (Alabama can't play in a bowl due to their infractions) that could possibly contend for a national championship. In the Big 12 however, you have Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado who are REAL contenders (and they all play eachother this season). You also have a couple of longshots with K-State (which I think is being overlooked as usual) and Nebraska (no one really knows how this Lords guy is going to work out...). Texas A&M is also a top 25 team but really has yet to make a great showing in this powerful conference. You also have Texas Tech which has a great QB with Kliff Kingsbury and yes... We should say that it's the Big 11... Baylor in its entire history with the Big 12 has yet to win a game in conference -- of course they show that they're a good team when they win most of their non-conference games. Iowa State, Ok State and Kansas no one can say from year to year. They usually have poor seasons but usually do pretty well in their non-conference games. SEC has Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama (plays an away game AT Oklahoma [good luck!]). I think their only real chance at a national title comes from Florida State who looks to be a real contender this year. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. |

ISU will go 2-2 in non-conference play, go 4-4 in conference, and make a bowl purely due to large fan following . . . not a great team this year, the Seneca Wallace show can only go so far. Worst case: losing conference record, loss to U of I, no bowl game. KU will finish with a losing record, even with their non-conference patsies. OSU is the only real wildcard, and they'll either go 5-6 or 6-5 . . . not exactly a powerhouse. I think we all saw how "good" the Big 12 was, top-to-bottom, when supposed 'up-and-coming powerhouse' Texas Tech got beat (in what basically amounted to a home game) by Iowa in the Alamo Bowl, even with All-Big 10 back Ladell Betts on the sideline the whole game. The Big 12 is top-heavy, in my mind; past OU, UT, and maybe Colorado, I expect a big down year while Nebraska rebuilds, A&M recovers, and KSU tries to figure out what the hell is going on. Non-conference games don't carry much weight unless they're against top-tier opponents, which the vast majority are not. The Big 10 might not be in for a great season either - Michigan, I think, will have a down year, leaving OSU and Illinois to carry the torch. Look for Iowa and Purdue to have better-than-advertised seasons, while MSU will have trouble duplicating last year's success. Penn State needs to put up the SOS. The SEC - every year something stupid happens in the SEC, but hey at least they don't play Duke every year (FSU I'm looking in your direction . . . ). But then again, what do I know? I'm just a Hawk fan who lives in Boston . . . |
Hootie and nwsigkap, just dont forget to show some love to the Millard West football players that play for Nebraska!!! Chris Septak and Brett Lindstrom are two that I can think of off the bat.
|
Nebraska!!!
Ok well I must admit, I'm really not that much of a football fan, unless it's a Nebraska game. However, I must say I agree with all other Nebraska people on here, in "Nebraska" terms, I think we're pretty much going to suck this year. :( Oh well, we all have our good times and our bad times right? I LOVE ERIC CROUCH though, he's so beautiful. I got to eat dinner with him once, oh lovely! Hootie, I see that you went tot Millard North, I don't know when you graduated, but did you ever know Kyle, Eric's little brother? He was the nicest most adorable guy ever!!! :D
|
i dont really know how VA Tech did last season, but they have done well before....where are they?
|
It's nice to see NC State on the list. Hopefully they can stay there. I hope the stomp FSU like they did last year.
