Mom and Dad pins
Does your sorority have Mother's and Father's pins? If so, what do they look like? And what excuse do you find to buy them for your mom and dad?
I don't know how to post pictures, but here is a link to the AXD pins: http://www.alphaxidelta.org/merchandise.asp?Section=3 I never got either of my parents the pins. We didn't have mom or dad's day in my chapter since sisters were from all over. |
Alpha Sigma Tau--I don't think that we have them....But any other ASTs can correct me about that........
|
Delta Gamma has a mother's pin. It is a white shield and has Delta Gamma letters (one on each side of a gold anchor in the middle of the shield). No pins for Dads.
Actually, Delta Delta Delta is doing us all one better; they have a sorority for Tri Delta Moms! It is called Psi Psi Psi! |
Phi Sigma Sigma has both a mothers and a fathers pin...I dont recall what they look like but we have a mother's pinning where we pin our mom's and fathers..

adpi has a mother's pin:
https://giftmart.alphadeltapi.org/gr...03-042-10K.gif the greek on the left is for mother, the right, daughter... with a violet in the middle with a diamond... we have a mother/daughter picnic, at the end of april and that is when we have the ceremony... my mom just thought it was so beautiful, and it was a really nice way for her to learn about the sorority :D OTW that's a really pretty pin! |
Sigma Kappa has a Mother's pin. I bought one for my mom. We had this big ceremony for Mother's Weekend where we gave them to our moms and said something about each of our moms before giving it to them. We did this candle-lighting thing too. It was very cute. All the moms cried :)
|
I am in adpi also, like sweetie adpi, so we use that same mother's pin. What we do is during parents weekend we do a mothers ceremony on the friday night that parents weekend starts, where most of the moms cry. Then after words we have dessert usually of pies.

The Mothers pin is a gold bar with I believe Laurel leaves on it. In the center of the bar is the Phi Sigma Sigma crest, on the back is a red enamel heart. The most awesome thing about the mothers pin is that outside of initiated sisters, only mothers who have been presented with the mothers pin can wear the crest (and then only when they wear the pin). The Iota Gamma chapter celebrated their 1st anniversary on March 24, 2002 and as a tradition we started we will hold a mothers pinning ceremony as close to our chapter founding date as possible evey year. The ritual was so moving and I think helped mothers, I know my mom at least, understand more about what the sorority means. For all Phi Sigs I recommend you do a mothers pinning if possible. Just order your mothers pin at least 6 months in advance, or try to buy it at convention. We ordered our pins at the end of January and didn't receive them until middle of May. We had to improvise and make really nice ribbon pins to use during the ceremony. Oh well, i just got to do a nice pinning ceremony at home with my mom when the pin finally came in. Carolyn |
AEPhi doesn't have mother's and father's pins as far as I know. :(
|
My mom, who is also an Alpha Xi Delta, wears her mother's pin as the guard to her Quill. She's really proud of the double relationship. The father's pin must be relatively new as we didn't have them when I was in school (early 1970's). My dad would have loved to have one.
I like the idea of the mother's pin pinning ceremony. Great idea for getting your family involved. |
Zeta Tau Alpha has a mother's pin. We give the pin to our mothers during a mother/daughter tea ceremony.
|
Kappa Delta does not have a mother's or father's pin as far as I know of...but any of my sisters who know otherwise, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! I really like the idea, most parents support our organizations, either by donating time or money. I would really love to be able to give a pin to them for Mother's Day or Father's Day.

We prolly cold use just a recognition pin for our fathers. We give those to boyfriends and to chapter sweethearts. But then we'd have to make up another ceremony, and I doubt national would approve of that. |
ZTA also has a mother's pin. It is a small blue crown with a white violet on it. I give my mom her's one year at Mom's weekend at the house. She wore it every year after that and to all sorority functions I had. Neat way to make parents feel special about what their kids are involved in!

Gamma Phi has a mother's pin. It's a black shield with a pink carnation. I gave my mom one for mother's day. She loved it!!!:)
|
Pi Phi has a mothers pin but I don't know if there is a ceremony to go with it. It would be nice if there was though, because I'd like to get one for my mom! :)

Delta Zeta has a mother's pin, a father's tie tack and a husband's pin. I don't have a husband yet....:) but I gave my mom the mothers pin for Christmas and my daddy the father's tie tack for father's day. The mothers pin is an ionic column with 4 pearls, similar to our badge...it has DZ at the top. The father's tie tack is a shorter ionic column without any pearls. I can't remember what the husbands pin looks like...but I won't have to worry about it for a while! :D
Oh, ShaedyKD, ya'll do have a mother's pin! My best friend gave her mom the mom's pin for mother's day...I know that it is fairly new...its really pretty! Blaire So proud to be a DELTA ZEE! No matter the letter, greeks do it better! |
Yup Pi Phi has a mother's pin. I bought one for my mother for her birthday. It looks just like our pledge pin (the arrow head) except it has our letters on it. Jharb, I don't think we have an official ceremony either. It would be cool if we did though!! :)

Just a quick question...
I've read a couple of posts that said that they gave them to their mothers for birthdays and mothers day and stuff.... Does your organization not have a pinning ceremony for your moms? Just asking. ~Beth |

Aww...I wish SDT had a parents' pin. :(

I just got initiatied so I don't know...does Chi-O have a mother or father pin?
|
Phi Mu has a mother's pin, but not a father's pin. The mother's pin:
http://64.224.205.67/cgi-bin/images/0200.jpg I've thought a couple times about giving it to my mom, but wasn't sure how she'd react -- I really think it's true what they say about greek life being incomprehensible from the outside, and I never wanted to give her the impression that I was somehow highlighting the fact that I had this wonderful opportunity to be in this wonderful organization, and nanny nanny boo boo you don't get to know what the letter stand for either. Not that she's like that, but you know what I mean. Mom put herself through school working 2 jobs... rough, and sorority life was certainly out of the question (although I'm not sure she would have thought to rush, even if it hadn't been a problem financially.) Who gave their mom a pin for Mother's Day, and what was the reaction? |
mother's pinning
HI There,
I gave my mom a Mother's Pin and she absolutely loved the whole idea of it and loved the Ceremony that went with it. Outside of initiated sisters, mothers who have received the mothers pin, which has the crest on it, are the only ones allowed to wear the crest. Another one of sister's mother who got the pin wears hers proudly all the time. In fact the sister Jojo told me that her mom follows exactly all the rules that we have when we have Phi Sigma Sigma letters, symbols etc on. Her mom even drink or go near alcohol if she's wearing the pin (and refuses to take it off just so she can drink). I encourage you to give your mom a pin, especially if Phi Mu has as beautiful a ceremony as our mother's pinning is. Carolyn |
Do you think it's acceptable to give mother-in-laws a mothers pin?
|
Awwww...that's so sweet!

Since I know your situation, I would say "yes". I think your (future) mother-in-law would be really touched and I think it's a beautiful gesture! If you are close and feel that it's appropriate, then that's good enough for me. I don't think anyone would be so uncouth as to say, "you can't give your Mother in Law a pin" and if they do, well *&$%# 'em!! :D |
CJ, I agee 200% with CP2000! If you feel that close to your MIL then by all means give her the pin. I have thought of giving my MIL our Mother's Pin too but I haven't gotten around to it. Maybe, I will order one at convention next week.
edited to add pin choices http://www.aoiiemporium.com/store/catalog/j12b.jpg http://www.aoiiemporium.com/store/catalog/j12a.jpg |
The chapter I advise pins mothers/fathers/anyone that is special to them because some women have a family friend that was like a mother to them or dont have the traditional family. They dont use the pins from CO, instead they use a hand made pin from blue and gold ribbon and a rose in the center. I think its a bit more special. They do use the ritual from the book though.
To all those orgs w/o a ritual/pin. Make your own. Write your own ritual. I have written two rituals for Tau Beta Sigma... its fun. Just dont use ritual secrets when dealing with non members, but Im sure since many chapters have local symbols etc, things can be made and it can be beautiful! If anyone needs help with a ceremony, let me know! Phi Sig's mothers pin: http://www.burrpatt.com/PhiSigmaSigm...s/Guards46.jpg |
I think that we don't have a mother's or a father's pin. I might be mistaken. I like the idea of that though. :)

Alpha Sigma Tau does have a mothers pin. It looks just like our badge but with the letters vertical, instead of horizontal.
