Dating Greeks
I think it's funny how many people in the greek system here are dating each other. I was just wondering the ratio of greek/non people you guys have dated since going greek.
|
Met a girl in high school, dated her throughout college, and we're still dating now (engaged, actually). So, I guess my answer is "non-greek." :)
Ratio is "0 Greek" : "1 Non-Greek" |
greeks=?
Perhaps it will help to specify. Are you refering to all GLO members, or just social?
Personally I have only dated one person seriously since going greek, and he's in a professional GLO. |
After I went Greek, I was still dating dumbass ex-he was still in highschool. When he went to college he went Greek. Mr.ChiOJenn is also Greek.
|
Every guy I've dated or been interested in during college so far has been Greek (well, save one). Same goes for my close friends. But that's just how it happens, because we all have friends in other houses and go to parties there, hang out at the same places, etc.
|
I have dated three women who are greek : one from my school, the other two thru long-distance relatioships. my ratio is right now more "Non-Greek" than "Greek"
|
Since going greek, I've dated 3 guys seriously.
1 - A grad student. He joined a social fraternity as an undergrad, but had nothing to do with them as an alum, even though there was a chapter at my school. He was also a member of a service fraternity. 2 - Collegiate member of a social fraternity. 3 - My husband. Never joined a social fraternity. He did join an honorary fraternity, and he is a Mason. How would you rate that? :) |
Well, sad to say, I've not had a boyfriend for quite some time (which includes after my greek-affiliation). But, I was thinking about this the other day and I'm not sure if anyone else would agree with me or not, but here goes... I think it's harder to date non-greek when you are greek. So much of our time goes into our organization and not many non-greeks understand or want to accept that. A lot of them think it's all partying, but it's not and you all know that so I don't need to explain myself here. And as seen in other threads the rituals and bonds are sacred and they may seem silly or juvenile to non-greeks and that's really sad. When you date other greeks they know what it means to you, and they have the same amount of commitment to their organization (hopefully anyway). Also I've found that non-greek guys (atleast the ones that I was seeing last year, although not officially) get jealous easily when you have socials with frats. I dunno, that's just my two cents at 5:42am. Ugh.. why am I still up?

Since going Greek, I've only had one serious boyfriend. I'm sure most of you remember what happened to him. He was part of the largest fraternity (though it wasn't Greek at all!)--the United States Military.
After the relationship ended, I dated the then-TKE president here. That one didn't really work out. I don't care too much for him now...but I still love my TKEs. :D Last spring I dated a PIKE... and I shouldn't really say that things didn't work out... we kind of drifted apart, but if the opportunity arose again where we could maybe date again...I'd so snatch it in a heartbeat. ;) There's more...including the one I'm seeing now (details will come later, I PROMISE!)...but I better quit before KillarneyRose calls me a vixen again. Haha. :D |
I've dated a Sigma Chi (5 1/2 years), Theta Chi (couple of weeks), Delta Tau Delta (1 1/2 years), and married a Lambda Chi Alpha.
Since I've been in college I haven't dated anyone outside the Greek system. |
Dated someone seriously throughout college who was non-greek (who was very vocally anti-Greek, actually).
Had a couple of dates post-break up with a couple of fraternity boys. Currently dating a Greek. :) |
let's see - currently dating a Pike :D
dated a different Pike for a couple months... dated a Sigma Chi for a couple months... other than that, all the rest have not been Greek |
Lets see.....
Before I went Greek....Dated a TKE. Dated and was lavaliered by a Sigma Nu during my first year as a DG. Dated 2 Non-Greeks after that, and then dated another TKE. Dated a Lambda Chi for a couple months. Currently not seeing anyone...greek or non-greek. |
Thinking back, I dated mostly fraternity guys in college, although my longest relationship towards the end of school was with a non-Greek guy.
Since college, all of the guys I've dated have been non-Greek except for one. My boyfriend now (who will most likely become my husband) is a non-Greek. Honestly, I think it's who you hang out with. In college, my sisters and I hung out with other Greeks so it was only natural that I dated Greeks most of the time. Now that I'm out of school, most of the guys I've met have been non-Greeks, so that's who I've dated. I don't really have a preference one way or the other. As long as my boyfriend understands that Greek Life is important to me and is supportive about it, then I'm happy. :) |

Since I started college up until now, the only guy I've dated who is not greek is the one I'm married to. But he's part of the U.S. Military which is, as Sandy pointed out, as close-knit a fraternity/old boys network as I've ever seen. |
Last couple of relationships were with AOPis, before then non-greeks. It just seems that the core group of people that I associate with are greeks, not excluding my old friends and other people, but that's just the way things turn out.

dating greeks
I actually dated more greeks when I was a non-greek. Now that I am a greek, I don't date any greeks. I don't think I could date a greek seriously and right now I am in a serious relationship. I also have a lot of non-greek friends. I promised myself that when I joined (Phi Sigma Sigma), I wouldn't forget or ignore the rest of my friends. I love my sisters and they are a big part of my life, but greek isn't everything.
|
Well, I'm a non-Greek dating a TKE. I know of his dating past he dated a couple DT's but somehow a GDI got 'em. :) If me and him ever break up, well, I'm still gonna be dating those Greeks, GDI's just aren't as fun!
|
As for me, I've been with my High School Sweetheart for 8 1/2 years now. Because we were in H.S. he wasn't greek, but in college he joined (actually founded the Theta Alpha Chapter of) Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity. So, I guess the only guy I've ever dated is now Greek :)
|
In my freshman year I my boyfriend pledged Delta Tau Delta at FSU in the spring semester, but ended up dropping.
In my sophomore year my boyfriend pledged Phi Delt here in the spring semester, but we broke up before he was initiated. And now he's transferred up to FSU. So my ratio is 1 and 1 for serious boyfriends as far as Greeks are concerned, but they all end up at FSU! Most guys that I casually see are Greeks though. |
While in college I dated a few (2-3) fraternity boys but nothing serious. My long term boyfriend didn't go greek until late in the relationship. My most recent ex (soon to be on again I hope) is about as far from a fraternity guy as they get!
|
I've really only had one serious boyfriend in college. He is Theta Chi and we were together for about a year and a half. Most of the guys I've dated casually have been primarily non-greek.
|
I dated a DKE pledge when I was a pledge. I dated a Theta Chi brother, then a AXP brother, then a KDR, back to another Theta Chi, and finally a Phi Kappa Sigma (or theta...I can't recall). Not really dating anyone seriously know, but the guy I hang out with isn't greek. Once you're out of college, I think it really isn't much of an issue anymore.
But here's to all those hottie frat boys from college!! :D |
Heather, you dated more guys in college than I have in my entire life. Good for you!
I had only a few dates in college, :( but two of the guys were greeks! Actually, dating wasn't that big of a deal in college. I had a few dates with a Lambda Chi Alpha last year. |
I don't really personally care whether the person is Greek or not, but it seems like the majority of guys I've dated or whatever have been Greek.
There was A Phi Kappa Theta at the very start of my freshman year A Sigma Tau Gamma the summer before freshman year I was "with" a FIJI for a little while before winter break, but it was never anything official Then there was a Lambda Chi Alpha this last semester And now.... I am seeing a WONDERFUL Beta Theta Pi from NE :D So there you have it! |
I don't really "date" in college. It's been more of bunch of one night stands of people I meet in clubs. What I like about sorority girls is that if you're really good, word spreads an' you have an open door for more. Of course, if they find out you're with others all of a sudden EVERYONE in the college "knows" that you're a sleazbag or somethin'.
for the record: I'm not. we al make mistakes. I joined KDR, the "nice guy" frat for my campus, to kinda put my life in perspective. A Couple of brothers date sororty girls, but it's not that they go out of their way to date greek. It just happens that way. When you're involved in the community you'll meet others who are too. |
When I first came to college, I was still dating my high school sweetheart. He never went greek. Since our break up, I haven't dated anyone who wasn't greek. I've dated a few SAE's, Sigma Chi, Sig Ep. My boyfriend of a year and a half is a Kappa Sig.
|
I dated someone since I was 15 to now (21), totally against sororities and fraternities...I would say "non-greek" wouldn't you. But, you never know what the future may hold!:D
|
The gu I've been seeing for the past few months is greek. He's in a local fraternity that may possibly go national sometime soon. Actually, its Blaine/Damasa...
|
ever since i went greek, i have found that my interest in guys has been greek. not because i'm snobby or anything, but because they are the only guys i ever see since we are always all with them :)
|
2 Greeks and ME
I haven't gone Greek yet (this fall I will though) but I've dated 2 Greeks so far. One guy I dated when I was still in high school and the other my second semester of freshman yr. Both of them were total coincidences.
I guess there's something about those Greeks;) |
