RUSH UPDATES HERE!!!!
To any women rushing right now or this month:
Please post here throughout rush and let us know which sororities you're still looking at! And of course where you end up pledging! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Good luck and have fun with rush. Thanks, "twinstars" Kappa Alpha Theta p.s.--anyone rushing KAT ("Theta"), I'd love to hear what you thought! Good or Bad..... |
Well, today I had my first day of parties!!!It was an early morning and the day was hot and tiring.. but I met so many wonderful women. I visited 7 houses today and I have 6 more to visit tomorrow before the first round is over. Out of the 7 houses I visited today.. I absolutely loved 5 of them
Delta Gamma Delta Delta Delta Kappa Kappa Gamma Pi Beta Phi Alpha Chi Omega Wish me luck for tomorrow and the rest of the week! |
Good Luck! I hope it works out well for you!
If you get cut from a house you really liked, and you thought liked you, DO NOT sweat it. I spent most of last year's rush (I'm a repeat rushee) wondering why I got cut from certain houses, and not focusing on the houses I had left. I eventually got so frustrated I withdrew, but in the end I regretted it. Hang in there! |
If I was just mildly addicted to Greek Chat, I'll never leave now. I rushed over 6 years ago, but just listening to all of you brings back the excitement. Good luck. All of us here at Greek Chat are rooting for you!

But there is a happy ending...I'm now an active, founding sister of a new local at my university. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif We have a LOT of obstacles now http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif, but our concept is fresh and likely to be well-recieved by prospective Greeks who aren't impressed by the established orgs [esp. at a Barbie and Ken commuter school like mine! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif], and if we recruit eough good new members, we could be a Gamma Phi (or other) colony by Fall 2001. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Everything does happen for a reason... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif <Sorry if I went a l'il crazy w/ the smilies...they're SO much fun though!> http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif ------------------ Amanda M. Hey girls!! I am getting ready to experience my first formal rush (i went through COB this past spring and joined Delta Gamma). I am sooo excited and can't wait! I am very interested to hear about other girls' experiences with rush on their campus. I'd love to hear about the DG parties at other schools and your ideas/opinions on their house. Thanks....good luck to everyone!!

Ok, well my second round of parties was today.. i Had a ton of fun watching all of the skits and talking with all of the girls :-) I definitely have a favorite house picked out... DELTA GAMMA! I love them. The house is very diverse and totally involved on campus - i think i'd really fit in well there. We will see tomorrow if they invite me back! I also really loved Alpha Chi Omega... theyre a great group of girls and theyre definitely right up there with the DGs.. so wish me luck for the morning :-)

ok, tonight I'm going to 3 pref parties that I'm really pumped about: Delta Gamma, Alpha Chi Omega, and delta delta delta.. i definitely have my favorites :-) Well, wish me luck for tonight!

good luck, iowahawkeye! it sounds like you're home free! you've made it to pref night with your two favorite houses, so you've survived all the cuts! now the only thing to worry about is how high you'll be on each of their bid lists. the best insider tip i've heard is to make the sisters feel like you REALLY want their house tonight (but do this at all 3 parties!) even if they really love you, but they get the feeling that they're not your first choice, you may end up lower on the bid list. you will probably only talk to 1 sister at each party tonight before the pref night ceremonies start. this girl will try to sell you on her sorority, and you must try to convince her how much you WANT to be in her sorority, but not in so many words. she should come away with that feeling.
anyway, it sounds like yours is going to be one of those rush stories that turns out great! be sure to come back and tell us where you get your bid! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
oh my GOD the suspense is KILLING ME! i went on vacation, came back and this post was up....i wanna know! ooh, who'd you get a bid from? ah, i am SO excited for everyone!

Rush for me starts this Friday (the 25th). I am in a situation similar to that of juniorgrrl, if anyone has read her posts they discuss rushing as a junior after being cut in previous years. I will be a junior too, and I too have rushed before, only to be cut for some reason or another from the sororities on campus. I have really been struggling with the issue of to rush or not to rush, becuase I am afraid of the infamous "cut once, cut again rule". I have no idea if it exists within the groups at my school, but I sure hope not! Anyway, the sororities at my school are:
Delta Delta Delta Zeta Tau Alpha Pi Beta Phi Kappa Delta I'll keep you all posted as things progress! |
Well, I would say that it depends on the greek system at your school. In the south, greek life is taken very seriously, and it can get very snotty and cliqueish. It has many wonderful sides to it, but it has some very ugly sides to it as well. Part of my reason for wanting to be a member was to try and change that. To make rushees feel like they were scrutinizing my chapter, not completely the other way around (no matter what they say to you, it almost always feels that you're being examined by the chapter, especially for the first few rounds). Anyway...excuse that tangent...
My advice is to follow your heart. If you think you can stand it if you are cut from all of them, go for it. You may be pleasantly surprised. If you don't get a bid, think of it this way: Would you really want to be a part of a group that doesn't want you? |
Ok, I know you are all dying from suspense:-)
I decicded not to join a house at this time. And in my heart that is the best decision for me at the time. I went to the three pref parties and had nice conversations with the girls and the ceremony was lovely - but I just didn't feel it. Everyone I know in a sorority tells me that when you find your house, you just know it, you feel it. I didn't feel it last night so i decided not to sign my prefrence card. And thats ok with me. I can always informal rush or rush again next year. Thanks for the advice everyone - i definitely took it into consideration. I may always wonder which house I would have been in - but at least I won't be wondering why I joined a house in the first place :-) |
I never in a billion years would have thought it would turn out like this!!!!!

But you followed your heart-that's brave! |
Well tonight we have pref parties to go to. I already got cut from 6 out of 8 sororities, so I only have 2 pref parties to go to tonight, and I'm not sure I'll want to join either of these 2 sororities. When we had our first parties with them, I didn't feel any connection with them at all, so I will probably not sign my pref card tonight either. I don't want to be obligated to join a sorority that I won't be happy in, because that's not fair to me or the sisters. I might attend open houses and such, but I will not rush again. The disappointment this time was a little too much. I really felt connected with ZTA, but apparently they didn't feel that way about me... how do you deal with something like that?
|
daisymargarita, i just read your post on the other board about joining SSS and its funny how one day you feel one way and the next another! I'm glad you joined us!
I too had this happen to me. SSS was a local when I pledged and I thought I wanted SDT. THANK GOD I WENT WITH MY GUT!! |
I am very happy to say that the sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon at UBC had a very successful rush this year!! I had my doubts at first because this year had the lowest rushee turn out that I have ever seen at UBC (and I'm in my 5th year). Anyways, quota was set at 10, and we got 11 http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. And we've had 2 more additions since sunday, so we are now at 13. I believe only one other sorority at UBC got quota plus one. This year is going to be a good one http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif!!!
