RUSH SONGS
okay, i have a question about rush. are there any chapters out there that sing songs to thier rushees about thier sorority or fraternity? sort of like a chant or silly song to get revved up and spirited? if so, and if you can share them (don't want to infringe on privacy/ritualistic issues), i'd love to hear them. i'm not trying to copy them, or incorporate them into my own chapter, but it's just something that my campus is really vocal about (no pun intended) and i think it'd be neat to hear what other chapters sing and chant to thier rushees during rush. so raise your voices and post your songs!

Yep,
We have about twenty rush songs. No lie. We spend sooo long learning them all by heart. Each night of rush we sing an incoming song, when the girls enter our house, then whatever song goes with that particular night, and then an exiting song. And, on the last night we sing five different song. It's crazy. I don't have them hear with me now, but when I do, I'll post some of them. |
kymberleigh,
i'd be VERY interested in hearing them! can't wait to see your post! etienne ------------------ "red is the color of music and has been since the very earliest of times. the caps of faeries and musicians are well-nigh always red."~*~w.b.yeats "I think that happiness is when you can let yourself feel every emotion you want at any time instead of being a lying little fuck." - Tori Amos |
okay, we're going to try this again...
now that it's rush time again, could someone please e-mail me with rush songs *nice and dirty* for a compilation book i'm working on? you can e-mail them to be at leighbwon@gurlmail.com etienne sigma alpha iota ------------------ "red is the color of music and has been since the very earliest of times. the caps of faeries and musicians are well-nigh always red."~*~w.b.yeats "I think that happiness is when you can let yourself feel every emotion you want at any time instead of being a lying little fuck." - Tori Amos |
We have lots of rush songs and chants. I love singing them. We just had our rush retreat this weekend and must of spent like an hour practicing them http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. We also have lots of dirty songs... for the approriate situation http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

I'm going through rush right now, and before my group goes into a chapter room with our Rho Chis, the sorority can be heard in the chapter room chanting little songs about their sorority. It really gets us pumped up and ready to meet the sisters! Gosh, I don't even know if it would be the same without hearing those chants first!

Etienne -
Why don't you post some of yours and then maybe others will post theirs? I could post some of ours, but most of them are made up so the tunes would be hard to describe! But I bet other AX's would know something about "Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom" (this is a joke since this song is an old tired one that I think every AX chapter is sick of hearing!) I think we are all a little apprehensive about posting our songs since we don't want anyone to copy them. It happens on our campus enough as it is! Then everyone argues about who stole what. ------------------ "Alpha Chi Omega - If you only had 2 wishes, what would your second one be?" |

It only takes a spark.... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
Does any NPC NOT sing Pass It On? One day in class a Tri Delt and I compared the different variations. I always felt sorry for rushees when they had three Prefs to go to. By the end of the night they could sing right along. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |

Does anyone else sing "Pep-Smile" or another version "Smile-Pep"? I have heard this from like a million different chapters (...that may be a bit of an exaggeration... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif) ------------------ "Alpha Chi Omega - If you only had 2 wishes, what would your second one be?" |
Last night I heard Kappa Delta sing something along the lines of "K-A-P-P-A, Kappa K-A-P-P-A. D-E-L-T-A, delta D-E-L-T-A. (Something something something) Don't you wanna be a KD too?" Ok, it looks stupid on here, but it was a really cute song.

Smile, Pep, Charm, Style! That's what she has! But most of all you love her pizazz!
Except for the pizazz part I like that song because it sticks in your head for days. What I really don't like about the rush songs my chapter uses is that just about all of them start off with spelling. Spelling isn't hard, BUT we do it differently in each song! So we start with one song, get mixed up and end with another! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif Then the advisors get annoyed cause we screwed up! We need to steal new songs from our chapter at SDSU. Their songs are SOOO much better. |

PEP-Smile, You can tell an Alpha Chi by Charm-Style, boys around her all the while Pep-Smile, Charm-Style that's only half.... Most of all you'll love her laugh whoa...whoa...whoa...whoa....Pep-Smile................... We have our own version that begins: PAP-SMEAR.....I won't go into the rest http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif ROFLMBO! We get sooo silly sometimes....that's a lot of free time, huh! ------------------ "Alpha Chi Omega - If you only had 2 wishes, what would your second one be?" |
And I thought we were the only ones who sang "Pass It On!" http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
It's really one of my favorites, though! Then again, as a professional group, it's not like our rushees have had to listen to "too" many versions! lol Oh well. Anyone else have a version of "Make New Friends?" I'm always impressed by the creativity -- at our convention last year, we had two groups come up with our own versions of "Mambo Number 5!" |
AXO Alum- We do Smile Pep but it's REALLY similar to yours. Makes me wonder how that other chapter sings it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif
I'll put up the words to ours. But as you know I've chosen not to publcize my chapter so... Smile, Pep! You can tell a XXXXX by her charm, style! Guys around her all the while! Smile, Pep, Charm, Style! That's what she has! But most of all you'll love her pizazz! ++Remember to clap on Pep!++ http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gifAnd bend those knees when you bounce! I hate the pizazz line! Who uses that word? Some chapters use the whoa whoa and then do it again. But we just go into another spelling cheer. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Okay, silly variations and additions. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
During Pass It On, does anyone else say something after the "I'll shout it from the mountain top." line? Not when rushees are present, but when it's just the sisters; we yell "Great Sex". We all crack up. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Also, if you have a similar line...to "It's fresh like Spring" Does everyone think of feminie hygenine ads?!? We're very proud if we can get through "Pass It On" with a straight face. There's another rush song called "Hey Look Us Over". My chapter is not capable of singing the clean version for rush. Which brings me to a question. How come a chapter can learn ALL the dirty songs in an hour but have to spend all week learning ONE clean song!?! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif |

My 2 big and 3 big thought up the worst songs in the world....I won't even allude to them here. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif |
I'm sure that this one was written in the late 80's early 90s. That's when, before an exchange, the fraternities had to literally hide the liquor and warn their pledges about our chapter.
**Hey look we're sober, aren't you surprised. We're all sober for the first time in our lives.** It goes down hill from there. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif |

So change the stupid words around to pep-smile! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Nah - I'm just bugging because this is what we say about "those" people! I know what you mean - our girls can't learn a song if we sing it straight for hours, but you wait and see how many can get made off the top of the head (hence the whole Pap-Smear song) and the words stick! SoCal Girl - I'll be glad to "pass on" the part about "GREAT SEX" - NOT!!! Our girls can barely sing that song as it is...I don't need them cracking up right in the middle! But that is hilarious! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ "Alpha Chi Omega - If you only had 2 wishes, what would your second one be?" |
hey guys,
do you have any cute songs/chants oyu can pass along for formal rush? My sorority has not done formal rush in few yrs(since I rushed) so we need some new ideas? You can email me jasmietana1@cs.com Thanks a lot |
We don't do a "PeP" song or "Pass It on" (I don't think.). we have a couple cheers that everyone on my campus has a version of like hidey-tidey, with an A, and "A Xi".

We are the Kappa Deltas, We are the ones for you- whooo! We are the Kappa Deltas, Don't you want to be a KD too? DG at my school also uses this, the same spelling out of Delta Gamma, and then their last part goes: We are the Delta Gammas, We're the girls of pink and blue, We are the Delta Gammas, Don't you want to be a DG too? |
Maggie - Pass It On is sung at pref but it is listed as Sharing - maybe that rings a bell.
Does the chapter have other chants than "With an A" and "A Xi"? If not let me know and I'll email you some. Stephanie |
I've never heard of Pass It On or Smile Pep. Sounds like I'm not missing much :)
We did do Hey Look Us Over. We learned most of our songs during rush retreat, but for this one we customized the second verse to mention specific sisters and their accomplishments, so we had to learn that one at the last minute. By the end of work week I was ready to puke on hearing that song - thankfully I did not actually puke during the party! ...And what's the dirty version... my chapter was too goody-two-shoes to have any dirty songs :( |
Pass It On - it's a church camp song the original is something like
It only take a smile to get a xxx glowing and soon all those around will warm up to her glowing that's how it is with God's love . . . We did Hey Look Us Over too - NOT one of my favorites - never heard the dirty version although there was this one to Look at Me I'm Sandra Dee that I can remember part of. |
I have NEVER heard of "Smile, Pep" or "Pass It On" but then again I'm only a sister for a year. We have a Hey Look Us Over I know for sure, it's on our NM CD...too funny on the lyrics. Our newer songbook looks smaller, any other Zeta's notice that??
It's not a real rush song but when we're waiting on the stairs inside the house we sing whatever dirty song we can think of to get excited and all for the girls who are coming...last formal rush I Wanna Lllllliiick You was the 'favorite'...our TLC just LOVED that one! |

D-E-L-T-A Delta D-E-L-T-A G-A-double M-A Gamma G-A-double M-A We are the Delta Gamma's We're bronze, pink and blue We are the Delta Gamma's Don't you wanna be a Dee Gee too... Chi O's use to have one also, that was very catching.. We had several, I still catch myself singing... Pi, Pi Beta Phi P-I P-H-I, Pi Phi Me for my Pi Beta Phi For I just LOVE Pi Beta Phi!!! |
Hey AXO Alum (I know it's old) are you talking about:
I wanna be an Alpha Chi BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM And baby that ain't no lie etc...? We have a really cute one called "Madness" We also have a chant with clapping that takes a week to learn because if one person messes up it's all over. It's called "Hey Go Alpha" We also sing one to the tune of "witch doctor" it's cute but we sing it every day except pref when the girls come in. By the end of the week we want to kill the next person who starts the song. We also have a chant that is really high energy that we yell (scream at the top of our lungs) right before the PNMs come in. I don't know if any other chapters use it or if it's a secret. |
Alas.... Sigma Kappa at Long Beach has our own version of Pass It On...But we recently changed some of the words to make it sound different than everybody else's.
But the BEST rush song ever was from this past year.... Our VP Membership re-wrote the words to sorry Ms. Jackson... Here it goes We're Sigma Kappa WOOOOOOO We are for real We had such a great time here today Thanks for stopping by at Sigma K (Repeat) Me and my sisters share in the mystic bond We're always having fun We know we're number one Know that we'll feel this Feel this way forever Whether we're apart Or We're having fun together Sigma Kappa Greek Love, Lil Snakey K |
that is too cute!

Boom Boom Boom Boom..." LOL - yep - the one and only!! "We call it fun but you may call it madddddnesssss Stay here awhile and you'll forget your sadddddnesssss...." Love that song! It is sooo fun! Here's the other one: Hey Go Alpha - Hey Go Alpha - Hey Go Alpha Chi Omega (repeat twice going faster each time -- and you gotta remember to do your arms in the shape of the letters while you sing) And who could ever forget the witchdoctor song: "ALPHA CHI'S THE BEST [You're Right] BETTER THAN ALL THE REST [You're Right] SOUND OFF...A - L...BRING IT ON DOWN... P-H-A-C-H-I-O-M-E-G-A A-L-P-H-A-C-H-I-OMEGA We are the Alpha Chi's and we are really GREAT [clap clap clap clap] We wear our lyre pins high and there is no mistake [clap clap clap clap] We are the GREATEST girls in all the 50 states - we're singing... A-L-P-H-A-C-H-I-OMEGA A-L-P-H-A-C-H-I-OMEGA" My alltime favorite!! ~~~~~ We also do our freaking Hidy Tidy chant (except the chapter I advise does it differently than my chapter). Email me with this secret chant -- we could use it! MUCH LOVE TO MY SISTER, LYRELYRE for bringing out the membories! |

SAI songs
I assume you are an SAI, right? Well my SAI chapter actually sings songs out of the songbook. So near so dear is very impressive...we had rushees crying, which is usually something I saw in my social sorority, but not SAI. Of course we sing the chorale and we invite them in the circle with us, which is kinda cool.
You can take any pep cheer you know and turn it into an SAI song too. PM me if you want some ideas...gotta go teach lessons!!!!! |

Without a doubt, the most annoying rush song is Phi Mu's. "Lady, won't you be my baby, my phi mu baby, I love you. My phi mu lady, won't you be my baby? You know I love you and always do and in the springtime it will be ring time in a little cottage built for 2, 3, 4, 5. (the next part they SCREAM) CAN'T YOU HEAR ME SAYING THAT I LOVE YOU TRUE MY PHI MU! You can hear them all up and down the row they're so loud |

We call it fun but some may call it madness, So come on with us and wipe away your sadness. Happy campers are we having fun 'neath the trees. And when we are gone we'll remember our song. We call it (camp name, repeating, while other half sings the lyrics...) It's really cute, I love that song - the first two lines are sorta a bonding for the camp counselors because it is a CRAZY job... :) So what's the sorority version? |
