GLO tattoos...
just wondering who has a tattoo with their GLO incorporated somehow (even if it is your symbol or mascot instead of your letters).. i personally do.. picture:
http://www.translucent-love.com/kytattto.jpg personally i am a tattoo/piercing lover, so i have a few of each.. also.. is it unnacceptable in your org to have a GLO related tattoo? a tattoo at all? visible piercings? all are okay in my GLO.. |
I have been thinking about getting a red rose tattoo on the small of my back. I wanted two flowers...one reason was because of AOII and the other was to symbolize my grandparents. But, I don't think I would do a tatto now. There are a couple of girls in my chapter with rose tattoos.
My chapter isn't real picky about visible piercings. Myself and another girl had our tongues pierced, one had her eye-brow pierced as well. We just see it as fun! I am a piercing fan...I have pierced several things to rebel/be noticed! I like the shock factor cause piercings don't fit my appearance and the way I behave. I would not discourage getting a tattoo that showed AOII, but I would just make sure the girls know what a tattoo means...it is forever! |
I wanted to get a tat of our badge, but the guy was having problems drawing it, so I told him to come up with something. The only problem I have with it is the way the letters are drawn and that it's small. Other than that I love it and I'm happy with it.
|
I wanted to get our open motto in greek letters as a tatoo... hmmm still thinking!
|
Some of my sisters have tattoos of angels (our mascot), and others have random tattoos. I can only think of two girls that have nose rings. A ton of girls have their navels and tongues pierced.
I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for awhile. I'm supposed to get one for my birthday later this year but I think I'm going to put it off until I can think of something really good. |
My chapter doesn't really have a problem with piercings either. I've had my tongue pierced for a while, another sister has her nose pierced, and a lot of the others have their belly buttons pierced.
As far as tattoos go...while I love my letters a lot, I don't think it's appropriate to have it tattooed on to my body. That's just my opinion. |

I don't think it is too much of a bright idea to get your letters, crest, or badge tattooed until you're in your GLO after 2 or 3 years. You don't want to quit and have that on your body forever.
|
One of my Brothers has a 8 " TAT of the Coat of Arms on his right shoulder.
It is really awesome, especially if you have seen The LXA Coat of Arms. Some have the Cross and Cresent Tats also. ME, NO WAY!!!!:D |
My house thinks that getting a tat of your letters is "gay". But I'm going to get one of the pledge badge or maybe the active badge where it's supposed to be on the chest.

No girls have an Org. related tatoo in my chapter.. but quite a few have other tatoos, a few of us have naval piercings, I think one one of us has a tounge ring. As a side note there is another soror on my campus where A LOT of the girls have tongue piercings and I noticed it, not a negative thing at all... but it stuck in my mind. So those of you who think it doesn't matter, PNMs do notice stuff like which chapter has the girls with piercings and tatoos. :D

I have our letters in a darker silver blue color with a wine arrow going through the letters. An inch and half wide and a half an inch tall. It is on the inside of my right ankle. I am going somewhere that a tattoo might not be appropriate I wear sandals with a back strap, it is easily covered, or a band-aid.
We use to go after initiation to the coast to eat dinner and the members that wanted tattoos got them, some on their ankles (mostly inside), others’ at their bikini line. We got the idea one year during rush. Our Traveling consultant from Miami University (Ohio) had one. |

Being that most of our TKE chapter is from very working class Neighborhoods, a couple of our members had Tats befor they joined, and well me and two of my pledge bros each went out and got different styles of TKE letters. I got old English, cause I always wanted old English letters ever since the Sublime Sublime album cover......But I kind of regret getting it now. But all this led to alot of the other guys going out and getting TKE letters and our motto on just about every differnet part of thier bodies. So about 70 % of our guys have tats now and the other 30 percent would but thier Parents wouldnt let them........Blaise

not much into tattoos...in my opinion, I think it would look tacky for an SAI to have her letters, or the badge, crest, etc on her *body*. Now, maybe if it was something small--like a small red rose with our letters under it, possibly. But even then...I love my letters, but there's LOTS of other ways to wear them besides having them permanently put on my body.
|
My chapter said from the minute I pledged that they didn't allow girls to get their letters tattooed onto their bodies because it was found distasteful to the honor of your letters. I sorta agree...it's kinda like drinking in your letters (another no no).
Although I heard rumors of a few of the older girls having their letters tattooed...or I know one had an owl. Personally, now that I'm alumn, I don't feel the need to be tattooed with my letters...and I'm not totally fond of the owl as an EVERYDAY tattoo either. So I would consider only the white carnation as a tatoo... Hootie |

Keep in mind where you want to get it too. I always had to remind them to cover them for ritual. And, if your chapter is strict, there may be issues with having them visable and drinking... since you are wearing your letters. |
just trying something...

I have 2 tattoos and several piercings. My tattoos are not GLO related, but all my sisters know I have them and are cool with it.
I was thinking of get something tattooed related to Pi Beta Phi, but since I already have 2 tattoos, I might not. |
I am not sure if any of the girls in my chapter have tatoos, but at least 10 or more of us are thinking of going as a group and getting small anchors done.
If I do get it done, I would put it on my ankle so that, if needed, I could cover it easily with a band-aid. Colleen Eta Eta |
There are a couple girls in my chapter that got small anchors on their lower back. Their really cute, and you can barely see them unless they are in bikinis. 2 of the girls got them in pink and 2 got them in blue, which are our house colors. It is not a big deal in my chapter if you have tattoos or piercings. I think the majority of my house has our tounges or nose pierced. I am sure however if something looked completely untasteful someone would say something but we are allowed to do what we want in regards to tattoos and piercings!!
|
i'm not a fan of tattoos, but i have thought about getting one.... if i did it would be SMALL, and in a place where it would be covered up. i think i would either get my bade number (166...), or letters, or our founders symbol:

I'm an alum now, but when I was an active, I was told that we were not supposed to have tattoos of our letters done. There was of course one rebel who did it and she was reminded anytime anyone from nationals was coming in to keep it under wraps.
Other girls had various piercings and tattoos and there was no problem with those. |
KappaTarzan: Your tattoo rocks!
I've got a butterfly on my back right now but I think I may head back to the tattoo parlor to get my letters done :) |
none of the girls in my chapter have our letters or anything DO related tattooed on themselves, although it's a big thing to do among the fraternities on our campus.
As far as I know, we don't have really any steadfast rules about tattoos/piercings - I don't know if we'd bid somebody that had 100 tattoos on her, but generally, I think our rule is, as long as it's tasteful and can be covered up for pictures, etc. go for it. A lot of girls in my chapter have tongue or navel piercings, but that's kind of the same thing - not terribly visible. |
Some of my brothers have /\XA tattoos. One has a rampant lion holding a white rose, another the cross and crescent, a few have just the letters. I'm thinking about getting the letters and my inition number with a couple guys...we shall see
|
Some of our sisters have tattoos incorporating a Phoenix, which is one of our symbols. It's cool because it's not "obvious" that it refers to a GLO but other sisters would get it. They are mostly abstract and not like the Phoenix on our crest (because those red flames would hurt like the dickens!! OUCH!).
|
i have frat brothers who have brands and stuff on their arms and legs and stuff.
|
thanks AOX81 :)
we have some brothers here at umass who brand themselves with hot coat hangers- ouch. i personally have threetattoos, the previously shown one with letters, a tribal one on my back, and a small pink M on my front hip.. they all have alot of meaning to me :) for piercings have my tongue, navel, and 4 in each ear. i have many sisters who have tattoos, and a few with letters. two of my sisters got the chinese symbol for sister tattooed on together. my org doens' tlook down upon self expression, and the way nationals put it at summer workshop (summer national convention) this weekend was "if you love KDPhi nas, and its in your blood, why not put it on your body". :) beautiful way of putting it!!! thanks to everyone who replied to my thread post,i love tattoo stories! |
i dont know...
Personally I don't have much of an opinion on this thread because I'm not huge on tats to begin with but I will say this: When I first was a new member, the first thing my pledge class was told was "DO NOT GET OUR LETTERS PUT ON YOUR BODY, YOU'LL REGRET IT"...and while I was like "Why?" at the time, I thought it through and now I realize that that is right...I mean really, what if (God Forbid) you get black balled?? Or what if you just up and quit?? So maybe getting a heart or a dove or something wouldn't be so bad but maybe the letters themselves wouldn't be so good.
|
i can't believe your glo would tell you that you'd regret getting the letters tattooed on.. i can understand if it was a national rule or even a local rule.. wow, who would have thought? everyone is different though, and life would be boring without diversity ;)
|
I have a tattoo of a violet on my lower back (our flower) and it's a personal reminder of Sigma Kappa for myself that isn't letters. I know of a couple girls who got small violets and our letters on their ankles and they look really nice. One of my sisters also got a dove on her shoulder and it's just beautiful. Other than that, a lot of people in my chapter have piercings and tatoos but most of them can be covered for formal events or when required.
|
My husband's step sister got a tatoo of a dolphin on her foot and then resigned from Tri Delta! Oops...
We were told that we should not have our letters tatooed on our bodies. I would personally never get a tatoo, but several of my sisters got turtles, one even got the chinese character that means turtle. |
No one from my chapter has our tattoos with our letters on them. A couple of sisters have roses (our flower) and butterflies (our chapter mascot), but they got those done before they were members.
I am thinking about getting a tat that has some sort of meaning for my sorority. I donno if I wanna get the letters. Even though I love my letters to death, I don't want anyone to think I'm disrespecting them, if they see me drinking or anything like that. There's so many different things that I wanna do, and I want to be original, so I donno what I'm going to end up getting. That is if I end up getting them. (I'm such a baby when it comes to needles...) :( I also wanna get my tongue pierced, and have on many occasions ALMOST gotten it done... I chickened out. For those of you who have tats, were you scared??? Did it hurt??? I've heard from some people that it's very painful, and others that it's like a massage! What do you think? ~Beth |
I've got a cross and crescent tattoo. It's one of the symbols of my house. As far as other people go, there are three or four other people in my house who have similar tattoos. Originally I wasn't all about tattooos, but now that I have mine, I absolutely love it.
|
i got my tongue pierced more than a year ago and i love it... things like that differentiate between people, but mine didnt really hurt too bad other than the three days after i got it done.. may i recommend Biotene instead of listerene and also Glyoxide will help it heal much faster.. mine didnt swell at all, and i never developed a speech impediment!! i was lucky..actually im looking into getting it done again.. i cant wait....:p
|
i'm thinking of getting a rattle snake wrapped around my ankle or the badge on my chest. :)
|
One of my bros, who is now an active at Ohio State got our coat of arms on his calf. Myself and another guy from my class have different cross & crescent tats. mine is like the friendship pin (http://www.lambdachi.org/fraternity/symbols.asp), and his is just the cross & crescent with the letters, and no shield over it. Another guy in the class under mine has stylized bubble letters on his bicep.
