First Choice

If the fraternity or sorority that you chose to join was not at your school when you went through rush, what other one would you have joined? Why?

PiPhiJulie 07-01-2002 11:58 PM

I guess DG or Kappa. That's the others I preffed.

Lil_ChiO_Lady 07-02-2002 12:00 AM

That is a good question if I had to choose between:
Alpha Chi
Phi Mu
Dee Zee
ZTA
DG

I would have choosen ZTA, cause I know most of their girls out of all the others on my campus and there are some down to earth country girls. Very much like Chi-O.

I think every girl thinks about what if.... so that actually made me really think..... I was also told by them why I didn't go Zeta, but hey I got a pretty good deal...I must say.:D

I went through spring rush so I choose who I wanted to rush, it made it easier

PiKA2001 07-02-2002 12:03 AM

i wouldnt have have rushed at all. Pike was the only choice for me.

Peaches-n-Cream 07-02-2002 01:13 AM

I also received a bid from Alpha Phi so Alpha Phi. :)

KappaTarzan 07-02-2002 01:23 AM

i honestly think that my sorority was the only way for me to go.. without it i don't think i would have gone greek at all!! :)

phisigduchesscv 07-02-2002 02:23 AM

Phi Sigma Sigma only one for me

I agree with KappaTarzan that the sorority I chose was the only one for me. Phi Sigma Sigma made me feel at home. When I brought up the fact I'm in my 30's and a graduate student to the women who were at CSUDH trying to create a colony these women shot down everyone one of my reasons why they wouldn't want me. Phi Sig is truly one of the most inclusive groups I know and I just want to say thank you to Phi Sigma Sigma for not caring if I'm an "old lady" and a graduate student. Joining Phi Sigma Sigma has been one of the best things I've done in college and brought me some of the best friendships I have ever developed.

I was a Kappa Kappa Gamma legacy. So probably Kappa.

hannahgirl 07-02-2002 09:22 AM

When I went through Recruitment, I preffed DG and ADPi. Looking back, if I had to choose anything but DG, I probably would've looked longer at Alpha Gam. I dropped them after the first round of parties because I knew a couple girls from high school and only 1 of them (who was the recruitment chair) said hello to me. But looking at the chapter now....they are very close with our chapter and we all have about the same personalities. So my choice would've been Alpha Gam if DG was not on campus.

DeltaGammaStar 07-02-2002 09:45 AM

On my campus, we only have DG, Phi Mu, and Tri-Delt.

If DG hadn't been on campus, I wouldn't have gone Greek period. The others just aren't right for me. I was also part of our chapter of DG's first official pledge class.

Looks like things worked out at just the right time. :D

If I had to join a sorority, and I could choose any sorority on my campus except the one I actually joined, I would choose Theta or possibly AXO.

RedRoseSAI 07-02-2002 11:14 AM

If there hadn't been an SAI chapter at my school, I don't think I would have joined anything. Senior year of high school, I was POSITIVE I was going to University of IL, where I was all gung-ho to go NPC. Anyone familiar with U of I Greeks (not to mention their beautiful houses!) will understand why.

Well, I did get accepted to U of I, but ended up bombing my School of Music audition. So, I went elsewhere. Unfortunately, my alma mater's Greek system was NOTHING compared to U of I's. Trashy row, bad reputation, etc.. Disappointed, I decided not to rush NPC, and instead found SAI, which was more my speed.

Ironically, I ended up not majoring in music. Every now and then I do wonder what would have happened if I had gone to U of I and rushed NPC.

ChiOJenn78 07-02-2002 01:04 PM

If Chi Omega wasn't on my campus, then I probably would have chosen DG. I had a really hard time choosing between the two, and I really liked the DG sisters that I met during Rush. I had a couple of good friends pledge DG, and they really loved it.

LeslieAGD 07-02-2002 01:10 PM

Sigma Kappa was my other Pref and my second choice.

phisigbrookie 07-02-2002 01:19 PM

My school is very small and we only have two national sororities. If I didn't join Phi Sig I wouldn't be Greek. The other national on my campus doesn't seem nearly as close with their sisters as we are. I couldn't imagine belonging to their organization.

sairose 07-02-2002 07:49 PM

Well, here's my story. :)

All through high school I had planned to go through Rush and join a social sorority. I just couldn't wait. I had gone to "preview days" and tours at all the other colleges I was interested in except for the one I ended up going to, oddly enough. The greeks I met at the other schools during the preview days were so nice and genuine. I realized I didn't have the money to join a sorority when I found out how much it cost so I decided to wait and rush the next year, when I could afford it.

Then I went to college. I encountered many sorority girls, most of which unfortunately were very cold, snobbish, and unfriendly. There are only 5 sororities here...one is famous for constantly being drunk and sleeping with random guys; one is famous for small membership because all the members fight all the time; and the others I met around campus simply were VERY VERY unfriendly to me. I decided that joining a social sorority was just not for me.

Well, since I'm a music major, I thought I would pledge Tau Beta Sigma. Unfortunately at the time they were very cliquish and instead of inviting EVERYONE to their rush events, they only invited the ones they wanted in, and anyone else who showed up to their rush parties never got a bid.

So I was crushed. I ended up going to a school with a BAD group of social sororities, and Tau Beta Sigma ended up not being much better.

Then I discovered Sigma Alpha Iota. :)

SAI was very unorganized at the time and never put up signs or handed out invitations for Rush to anyone, but a friend of mine who had gone to rush encouraged me to find out if I could still pledge. I didn't know any but 2 of the girls, but I talked to the VP Membership anyways...she was so friendly, so excited that I wanted to be a part of their sisterhood. The next day I receieved a bid, and met the rest of the chapter, all of which hugged me and talked to me like I was a long lost friend. I'll never forget that. :)

It took me a lot of searching to find my Greek home, but now that I found SAI, I can't imagine being in ANY other GLO. I love SAI dearly. I may have not ended up in a social GLO like orginally planned, but I ended up where I was meant to be. :)

oooooops

Hey everyone,

I didn't mean for my message to sound like I have a negative image of social Greeks. Unfortunately it came out sounding that way.

I have a lot of respect for social GLOs, for what they stand for, and for all they do. Unfortunately, my school doesn't have a very good greek system; the social sororities here unfortunately fit the stereotypes, and I think that's sad. :(

So, my appologies. I praise all of you in there in good Greek systems and give you a big thumbs up for representing the Greek world in such a positive light. :)

whiteroses 07-02-2002 07:57 PM

If I couldnt have been a chi omega I would have joined delta gamma. I really loved the girls and the soroity in general. :)

AZDZetaSigma03 07-02-2002 08:12 PM

I guess I'm doubly lucky because I'm in both a national sorority and SAI....

I wouldn't have gotten a bid to any other houses except Alpha Xi, so I probably wouldn't have gone greek at all.

RedRoseSAI 07-02-2002 08:17 PM

Hey, sairose, I PM'd you!

NewGirl 07-02-2002 09:36 PM

if i hadnt joined...

I guess that if i hadnt joined Alpha CHi. i would have liked to join Phi Mu.. they were my second choice and after bid day, four of my friends got phi mu bids!! but i know that axo is the place for me.
love
ashley

nauadpi 07-02-2002 09:46 PM

Well I COBed ADPi, so if I hadnt joined ADPi there would be only one other sorority I would have looked at. My roommate my first semester went through formal rush and joined AOPi, so I probably would have tried there. In reality though, I cant picture myself there. In all honesty, for me to stay with a sorority it had to be ADPi.

babysquirrelnmc 07-02-2002 09:47 PM

I suicided Alpha Gam and knowing the inside scoop about all the other sororities on campus, kinda makes me glad that I am an Alpha Gam. But, if I had to choose, then probably either Tri Delt or Chi Omega.

dzandiloo 07-03-2002 12:34 PM

There were only 3 sororities to choose from on my campus way back when, and I only pref'd 2: DZ and Alpha Gam--which were and are equally strong in different ways. I can honestly say that if I had not pledged DZ at my college, I would not have been Greek. The AGD's were very nice people-don't get me wrong, but the personalities of the 2 groups on my campus couldn't have been more different (not in a bad way). The DZ's convinced me that I HAD to go Greek--their sisterhood appealed to me like nothing I'd ever experienced. I didn't have any problems w/the AGDs--just didnt' click with them. You all know what I mean. I suicided DZ, and never looked back.

Now-if I had gone to another school, with any choice at all, except for DZ, I think that I would have liked to be a Tri-Delt (grandmother was one) or a ZTA, just because I've never met a ZTA I didn't like instantly.

DeltaSigStan 07-03-2002 12:41 PM

Well, I did kinda pledge an Asian fraternity, but it didn't work out. I guess I just didn't fit in well with them. I chose Delta Sig because when it came down to it, they were really cool guys who just in general wanted to make the best out of the college experience.

theta sig agd 07-03-2002 01:18 PM

This is a hard one!

I think if not Alpha Gamma Delta

I really like:
ADPi
XO
KKG
or
KAtheta

But I LOVE being an Alpha Gam and couldnt see myself with any ohter group of sisters. ????

DGprincess 07-03-2002 02:23 PM

Delta Gamma is the only sorority for me, and I don't think I would have gone Greek if they were not at my campus.

JMUduke 07-03-2002 03:23 PM

I wish at the time I had considered different sororities for the last few rounds, but when I got a bid from the sorority I am in I was extremely happy...now, since we're having a lot of internal issues, I would say I would have liked either ZTA or ASA....

ZTAngel 07-03-2002 06:04 PM

I'd choose ADPi. I preffed them and was very comfortable there. The girls I've met from ADPi are very friendly.

AOIIalum 07-03-2002 08:25 PM

At my school, I probably would have wanted to be a Chi O or KD if I hadn't pledged AOII. If I'd gone to my 2nd choice school, after AOII I would have been most interested in AZD and ADPi.

That's a hard question, especially for those of us who have been a member for almost 20 years :-)

sweetie adpi 07-04-2002 12:44 AM

it's really hard for me, because i didn't go through formal recruitment... on the one hand, i didn't get to learn about each of the other three sororities straight from the source necessarily like the women that went through, but on the other hand, i was able to form alot of my opinions through experience that wasn't necessarily based on the emotion of the moment (not that i'm saying that is a bad thing necessarily either!) i guess waht i'm saying is that my feelings for adpi grew a little more slowly than that "rush" that the women who went through formal felt. any-ways :D although the other sororities on my campus are full of amazing women, and i'm sure that i would have been proud to be a part of any of them if things were different, i know that i am completely happy where i am and can't even imagine myself anywhere else...

nwsigkap 07-04-2002 02:38 AM

Phi Mu. During recruitment I was torn between the two, but i just got this feeling about Sigma Kappa:D. Looking back now I am SO glad that I went with Sigma Kappa as #1...I don't think I would be nearly as happy with Phi Mu.
