greek rivalry
What GLO is your GLO's biggest rival at your school( rush, athletics, etc.)? Over here, since there are only two social fraternities, we are always locking horns with sigma pi. As for the sororities, delta zeta and agd are also two powerhouse's that compete heavily diring rush and greek week.
|
There are 4 sororities at my school and we do not have a rival. DZ and Tri-Sigma are rivals, we (Alpha Phi) are cool with everyone, and AST pretty much keeps to themselves.
|
For our chapter--- We are rivals with Sig Ep, even though I do buisness with many of them as far as being in the promotion game for clubs and etc. My main beef is with Sigma Chi. I love getting in fights with them, cracking jaws and swinging left to right. The main problem I have with them is deeply rooted. When I was in highschool my group of friends and I were the studs of our highschool. There were nine of us. We were the ones who were the studs of the football team, baseball team and soccer team. We played sports because we knew it gave us an inside advantage to the cheerleaders, softball chicks and soccer chicks. Anyhow--when we left for college, 4 of us came to UF, 1 went to live in the carribean in Martineque, 1 went to Univ. Of North Carolina, 1 went to Princeton, 1 to Harvard and 1 to Ole Miss. Out of those of us that came to Uf, I was the only one not to go Sigma Chi. When they found out I went Pike they didnt have shit to do with me. 1 night at this bar many greeks here go to, I saw them. I was with some of my brothers and I said whats up to them. They looked at me and turned the other way. I grabbed one by the arm and told him to go fuck himself in the ass. He threw his drink on my shirt and we got in a fight. Imagine that, a bunch of drunken frat boys fighting.....I later was told that they were deeply hurt that I didnt join sigma chi and thats why they had hard feelings towards me.
This is the case with many people in this greek community here. It doenst matter what things were like before college but rather how they are while in college. |
I guess we're pretty lucky, on our campus the fraternities and sororities get along with one another pretty well, with a few exceptions.
For instance, one fraternity will start rumors, such as saying that another fraternity tried to start their house on fire, and other nasty stuff. They often think that they are better than others, and think they deserve some special status just because they joined a particular chapter. For this reason, I try to avoid them and am as cordial as necessary when I have to interact with them. On a lighter note, two of the four sororities have a slight rivalry that started from the Greek Awards this spring. Pi Phi beat AOPi for grades, but AOPi won the award for top sorority chapter of the year. A funny story that arose was when Pi Phi came to serenade us, they turned toward AOPi's house and put a line in the song that said "cuter than any AOPi!" :) Then as we returned the greeting, we accidentally did a cheer for AOPi instead of Pi Phi! :o Those girls were pissed off and shocked! I apolgized to a couple of them later that week, so hopefully they aren't still upset after all this time! |
It supposed to be Kappa Sig but we're cool now so...My main beef is with Delta Chi because of things I shouldn't mention on this site.

:BUMP:
Well, you know the wonderful, beautiful new fraternity row I won't shut up about? Well, a certain fraternity (I won't give any names, but let's just say "Oops, I joined" ) will be across the street from the row, more specifically, our new house. Well, everytime I see one of their members, they keep saying "AHAHAHAHAHA FRAT ROW WILL NEVER BE DONE ON TIME! YOU GUYS ARE NEVER MOVING IN!" They're just jealous because they're going to be in this shack across the street from eight beautiful new houses. Well, aside from the fact that everyone thinks they're a bunch of tools, I guess you could say that they are our rival. Two consecutive years, we have faced each other at Kappa Delta's Frats-At-Bat, and in 2001 (In wasn't in the house yet, they BARELY squeezed out a win. and in 2002, we killed them 17-1. I guess we're rivals because we're the smallest house on campus (for now), and they're I guess the ones that are the least liked (Am I right Josh?) Sigma Chi and SAE normally duke it out because they're the two biggest houses. OH MAN, I can't wait until the new house is done ON TIME, and I can just laugh at them in their faces. |
Being in competition and breaking jawa is much different, get it together Bud! You will get kicked off of campus if you dont!
Our big fight group was SPE and the schooll said do you want to be on or off campus! Well I told the guys of LXA get it together or I will call International and have the Charter Pulled! Yes I think I can reccommend that and they will lsten! So just what good does that do? Not a Damn thing! Better on than not! Si? I for one do not want my reputation ruined by some dumb asses! We do a lot for the school, but cannot do much if not there! What think you bad boy!!?? Does this make you sound stupid and ignorant hell yess it does! Your toss of the coin! |
On my campus it's Phi Mu and Tri Sigma. Funny, because I'm a Phi Mu and my roommate is a Tri Sigma. :p

Greek rivlaries on our campus
On our campus we have 4 fraternities and 4 sororities.
Sigma Chi and Lambda Chi Alpha are the biggest rivals in the fraternities. Delta Phi Omega (local fraternity) don't really cause any problems and the Phi Beta Sigma's pretty much stick to themselves. The sororities all get along for the most part. |
Well Stan, it is a difference when 2 Fraternities just go jaw to jaw on the sports field, but when the police are called, there is a damn big difference!
The school ,looks rather askew at just what they are doing! What little bubble of greek life are you living in? We as Greeks are under the mocroscope at many Campuses! Do Some screw up yes they do if you get e-m from other sites as I do it tells the story! :) :) Hell I am PRO GREEK!! CANNOT YOU TELL? |
Umm......where did it say in my original post that the police have been called?
If you're refering to me saying SAE and Sigma Chi duking it out, I meant on the sports field lol. Sorry if you misinterpeted it wrong. This last year, Sigma Chi and SAE have played each other in intramurals and at philantrophies, and there is no clear cut winner. Sigma chi will win Beach Volleyball whereas SAE will win indoor soccer. Duking it out as in fierce competition on the field. I mean, they're cool with each other and all. No two fraternities (at SDSU at least) have ever gotten into a fist fight over who has the better house or what not. |
Our rivals are Delta Zeta. They always get the cute girls.;)
I guess are rivals are everyone except Sigma Pi because they are interest group. IFC voted no to expansion. Unamious expect we voted yes for them. People tried to fight us at the begining. We made peace with Kappa Sig. We don't see our selves like them at all, but people told me indepently of each other that Kappa Sig and Theta Chi were threre top choices for rush. I'm jealous that they got the 5 people I wanted. Oh well. |
Rivals
Our Rivals used to be Phi Kappa Theta, I knocked one out last semester......What do you think of that TOM!!!!! Knocked him cold, and I was still voted in to VP of IFC, because his brothers who I live next to cant stand him anyway, normally they are our rivals on the sports feild, but we have whooped their asses for the last two years at every major sport, and we also killed everyone in Greek Week for the last 5 years...But lately we have had beef with Kappa Alpha, they recently got into it with a friend of our chapter, and active, and our Alumni of the year.....Those three guys didnt even start it, and only threw punches after they where thrown at them, those three guys beat the crap out of 7 KAs.....and put two in the hospital.......But that what happens when you mess with Mu Zeta.......ask the Sigma Nus from U. of Louisiana Lafayette.....Im not sure they will try to tell you, its just their words might be a little slured from the broken jaws.......
|
There are 4 sororities, and 5 fraternities on my campus, the sororities don't really rival, except that the three national sororities don't really like the local sorority, they don't play by the rules.
And as for Fraternities the SAE's and Phi Delta Thetas are probably the biggest rivals, because they are the strongest groups. |
true that stan!
"oops...." is full of it, and eventhough it sucks to be at the bottom of the greek food chain they shouldn't be having little man syndrom over the new row. as for rivalries...in my opinion all the sororities at sdsu are rivals with each other. the girls can be catty at times. my house is cool with everyone...but there is one house we don't care for because they are known for getting whatever they want like a spoiled little child at christmas. they use their money and push "coke" so they appear flashy and high class...bah! as for me, i do have a personal rivalry...if you know me you know what house i'm talking about...i can be quoted many times for saying "i hate xyz," or "f*** xyz," or "beep beep beep xyz" when i'm drunk and they piss me off. |
Yea there is always competition between fraternities and then between sororities. On my campus, there is only one I particualr can't stand because all the girls are so snobby spoiled lil daddy buys me everything brats. And basically unless your white, rich, and drop dead gorgeous, or legacy, you basically run very little chance of getting in. My big hates another one which I really don't know that well enough to not like them but I support her so they suck too! LOL besides that I either barely know some of the others or I like most of them. One I really like and I will them a shout out is Gamma Phi Beta. They live next door to us and most of them are pretty cool. Some of my friends from class last semester are sisters there and they rock!

So, I guess what you are trying to say is: "Don't mess with the MZ TKE's, We're badass!" flex, flex

See, my house tries to be more Zen than this. We just completely ignore all the other Greeks whenever possible. It makes life so much more pleasant- they stay in their yards, we stay in ours, and everyone pretends we don't hate each other. Very European.
|
There is always friendly competition. It hightens around greek week time tho. Fall semester is usually pretty mellow and our girls let the national sororities ham it out during formal recruitment, which we aren't part of anyway. So in a sense, it's us vs. them but we still get good girls so it's not like everyone is fighting over PMs.
Spring semester gets pretty rough. Sigma Pi's Sorority Superbowl and Greek Week are the two main events. In superbowl, the big rivalry is Sigma Kappa and Alpha Phi. Sigma K used to win it every year but A Phi came outta somewhere this year. So did we and we managed to take 3rd. So it was like Chi Delts/Sigma K vs Alpha Phi. Then during Greek Week there is ALWAYS bitter competition. Since we did really well this year, a lot of GLOs on campus were rooting for us. So it was almost like it was everyone vs A Phi, who has won Greek Week 11 outta the 13 times we have held it. Our girls were pretty bitter about 2nd place, but it's all good, we'll get them next year. But there is one girl in that sorority that drives everyone nuts. She has the poorest attitude when it comes to losing and if she loses an event or her sorority loses an event, she gets PISSED . It's so funny cuz she only frustrates herself and does worse when she does lose. Fraternities: Sigma Chi and TKE is the one I think of off the bat. Sometimes there will be tiffs between Sig Ep and Sigma Pi because of IM sports... but I don't really pay attention. |
There wasnt much of a rivalry at my campus either when I was there between the sororities. the fraternities had rivalries but that was usually all in good fun...kinda like the greek week thing!
|
Hmmm, let me see...as far as rivalries go, I don't see much on the sorority side (generally its "friendly competition). I've learned the hard way to not judge an organization based on one member.
As for the fraternities, I'd have to say that the top frat. used to be SAE...now I'm not so sure. (they got into some trouble and are now on probation). There have been a few instances of fighting...ABC fraternity didn't let XYZ into a party they were throwing, so XYZ stole ABCs flag and burned it. Then ABC jumped their fence and a fistfight began! Boys are so silly! (J/K...I'd have done the same thing if I was male!) Oh and two frats did Homecoming with a sorority last year and one of them took the other's letters off of the float and urinated on them (that I know of b/c the guy who did it took a pic!) Needless to say, they don't get along anymore!;) Blaire |
It seemed like Alpha Gam was always in competition with Alpha Phi for the *best* girls during recruitment. But once recruitment was over, everything went back to normal. Its been about 5 years since I graduated ( ), but I still have plenty of friends in the other sororities that I keep in touch with. (Yay for being a Panhellenic junkie--I served in just about any PH office you could! Loved it!)
|
Our only rival is Tau Beta Sigma, because they're the only music GLO on my campus. We tend to compete for members, but things have gotten a lot better between us, and this year we are even planning socials with them.
|
Delta Chi and SAE are rivals and pretty much none of the fraternities like Sigma Chi.
As far as sororities we're only friends with AOPI-- bc they aren't like the other 3 houses-- they don't just choose the pretty, skinny, rich, super smart girls that are rude to anyone who isn't. |

I don't think anyone really has rivals, but some have pairs... Like we compete a lot with the Kappas for the same girls, same mixers, etc... but that doesn't mean that we hate them or anything! Also, KD and ZTA tend to pair up a lot, and Chi O and Alpha Chi... I'm not sure about DZ... I think they're pretty much lumped with us and Kappa, too.
As far as fraternities... The way the fraternity halls are set up, you're kind of paired off with another fraternity (one fraternity gets second floor, one gets first) and it's been said that the pairs of fraternities never get along. I know the Pi Kapps here hate the Sig Eps (who are underneath them on the hall). It was real funny to get both perspectives at one point because I have a lot of Sig Ep friends, and my roommate's boyfriend is Pi Kapp... so, the Sig Ep would be talking to me at supper saying stuff like, "Wow, we had this GREAT party last night, and some guy got so drunk he set off the fire alarm because he thought it would be funny" then you'd hear the Pi Kapp say, "Those d*** Sig Eps set off the f***ing fire alarm last night! We were ready to beat their a**!!" I don't know for sure about the other fraternity pairs, because most of them are one milid paired with one wild (A Phi A and Chi Psi, Sigma Nu and Lambda Chi... etc...) but, and I say this because I have lots of friends in both these fraternities, Sig Ep and Pi Kapp have some VERY hard-headed guys, and never get along. |
I don't remember having a rivalry with a particular sorority. I do remember one sister of a sorority hating me because I was friends with her boyfriend. I knew him for three years before they started dating. Anyway, I was friends with more than half of her sisters, and she started talking sh*t about me to her sisters. They thought that she was nuts because they knew me. It made her look really bad. :p
As for the guys, when alcohol and testosterone mix it is a recipe for beer muscles and big fights. I never saw any fights in person, but I remember seeing one guy with a broken nose. Ouch! |
