Sharing your name
Do any of you belong to a LOCAL organization that shares its name with another group that is not affiliated with you?
I belong to Alpha Theta Chi and it seems to be a pretty popular Greek Organization name for being a local. Sororities University of Michigan - Flint, Michigan Vincennes University - Vincennes, Indiana Bethany College - Lindsborg, Kansas Hamilton College - Clinton, New York Fraternities Hope College - Holland, Michigan Trinity University - San Antonio, TX Frostburg State University - Frostburg, MD Honorary Alabama |
Yeppers. We're Omega Delta, which is also the name of a Latino fraternity with three chapters in Illinois. It was founded 4 years before us. We're sometimes confused with each other.
|
Yes... there is a Kappa Gamma Chi in Texas... Austtin College. I've wanted to get in touch with members there, but have been unsuccessful :(
|
There are about 4 Chi Deltas that I know about. There is the CSU Sacramento one (mine) with the beta chapter in Sonoma. There is also one in ArK, but they don't call themselves a sorority... they are a social club. I have contacted them and they responded. There is also one in Nebraska... I think. I am sure there are others out there too.

have...
has anybody heard of any other glos with my glo's name?
Beta Phi Alpha |
Nope, sure haven't, but I will keep my eyes open!
|
for some reason i'm thinking that i found sigma lambda epsilon somewhere in alaska, but not positive
|
I actually found another Pi Kappa Phi once on the internet. They were some kind of social club at a country club. I thought at first it was an Alumni Association, but as I read further on they even said they are [I]not[/i} in any way connected to Pi Kappa Phi the GLO.

Hey, chideltjen, the name of the corporation that owns our house is Chi Delta! Weird.
|
Interesting Oneplus... i would like to know more about it. Do you have any information about it?
|
We were informed about a Kappa Alpha Tau at Pace University in NYC. Since hearing about them, we've called the student activities office to try to get in touch with them but were told that they no longer existed at Pace. To our knowledge, this was their only chapter.
If anyone hears anything, please let me know! Thanks so much! |

My friend and I are staring a local sorority (not yet gone through our student government) called Sigma Kappa Epsilon Pi. I don't believe there's another Sigma Kappa Epsilon Pi out there.
|
Phi Gamma Pi
There is a fraternity that has been around since 1924 called FGP as well. I am in the midst of contacting them and informing them about my sorority.
|
christinasmile: to my knowledge, there are very few organizations that use the four-letter scheme. You should be good to go there, and good luck!
We actually ran into this with Epsilon Tau Pi. Initially, we used Epsilon Alpha Phi as our name, and everyone seemed cool with it. Over the summer before our first rush, however, a friend of mine went to florida and found a Jewish Sorority using the name. Since we wanted to go national and needed trademarks and copyrights and such, we opted for the new name. It still ends up shortened to "EatPI", but hey - it's ours. That's the only problem I can think of with shared names, if one group goes national. |
We're the Alpha Rho Omega sorority, and a few years back, we discovered a fraternity at John Carrol (sp?) with our letters. However, they recently went national, so now I think we're the only ones :o)

Hi! I am new to GreekChat.com. My name is Emily and i'm in a local at Kean University in NJ.
I know that there are alot of Sigma Beta Chi Fraternities around the US. There is one in Texas, Florida, New York and I think Minnesota. Yet there is only 1 sorority, in Union, NJ. IF anyone has seen a Sigma Beta Chi Sorority, please notify me! I'd love to chat with them. |
We share "Phi Chi" with a local fraternity, I believe it's located on the west coast somewhere...
|
We're Omega Sigma Alpha...I don't think anyone else has our name.
|
There is another Kappa Chi Alpha @ Baylor in Texas. I know that one of our older sisters tried to contact them a while ago, but i dont think it was successful.

There's also a national medical fraternity that shares our name...
|
I'm in a local sorority, Tau Delta, at Otterbein College. people always ask about my lavalier or my letters... "are you missing a delta?"..."Excuse me?" ...."are you dating a DTD?" ...umm...no...these are MY letters! We are in NO WAY affliliated with Delta Tau Delta.
There is a local fraternity on campus, Pi Kappa Phi, that shares its name with a national fraternity, but I do believe ours was founded first. We also have another local fraternity, Sigma Delta Phi (Sphinx) that is apparently a sorority in California? |
there is another sigma nu phi but i believe its a business fraternity
|
Ther are two other Delta Xi Omegas not affiliated with mine in the south. But, we are starting a new chapter in Washington and possibly more soon.....

jen...
Did your group originally start as "little sisters" to Delta Chi Fraternity? (I can't remember if you told us or not...) Way back when I was a collegian I remember a group of Delta Chi little sisters that broke away and called themselves "Chi Delphia" (when auxillary orgs were disbanded I think) and eventually became a chapter of an NPC group (either that or they folded...but I think they went the NPC route). That was at Livingston State University (now the University of West Alabama)....I remember seeing some of their composits in the Delta Chi house back in 1993.... Just curious!!! PsychTau |
I'm a member of Kappa Delta Chi at Cornell College, which was founded in 1957, and now, there is a latino sorority in texas, and some of the southwestern states that was founded in 1991. I think they're NPC, but I'm not sure...
|
Thats a good question. I am not sure if Alpha Psi Alpha is affiliated with anyone! hmmmm

before we affiliated with Alpha Sigma Tau, we were Omega Delta Sorority -- which, as already mentioned, shared letters with quite a few other groups.
our campus also used to have two other locals, Zeta Xi Epsilon (now Gamma Phi Beta) and Kappa Phi Delta (disbanded) -- who shares letters with a local from illinois. |
Omega Delta
There at least used to be a local at UMass called Omega Delta
|
The local that became Phi Mu on VCU's campus was Omega Delta Epsilon.
|
Yes my sorority is Sigma Delta Sigma and I know there is a school in UCLA with a local organization called Sigma Delta Sigma and I believe there is another one somewhere in Pennsylvania

ETA: Yes, Delta Zeta Xi. http://hometown.aol.com/hautedream/Welcome.html ETA Again: Ok, nevermind. I see that the primary founder of Delta Zeta Xi was Anona Anonyuo. And, I also see that one of the founders of Xi Omega Pi is Anona Anonyuo. Still confused, but ok. |

Yes, thats true. Long story. If you wanna know about it, message me. The short of it is that Delta Zeta Xi was never allowed on campus. LOL, like I said long story. Anywho, we arn't the only locals on campus, there is another Chi Theta Kappa. I just was curious as to if there was another Xi Omega Pi floating around out there.
