Soul Food Season 3

2 1/2 hours are left until we can watch the Premiere BLACK DRAMA of our time. . .I am looking forward to fruitful discussions that will be even better than what we had during the second season. :D

CrimsonTide4 06-26-2002 10:57 PM

Worth the wait.

GOOOOOOOOOOOD LAWD on DAMON in the shower. http://www.clicksmilies.com/sammlung/liebe/liebe075.gif

Terri back @ Green Norris -- I can see panic attacks coming, ruining her friendship with Brian (is he a new Brian, not quite as sexy as the old one), cussing out Catherine, having to watch her back big time.

MAX & KENNY -- DANG IT cut the shenanigans and get back together. He did not sleep with Lila. He is STILL a good man.

"CHRISTINE" -- Damon let her gooooooooooo.

Lem is still looking SCRUMPTIOUS as all get out. http://www.clicksmilies.com/sammlung/liebe/liebe075.gif

Okay now lets see....where do I begin?

I enjoyed the premiere.....we taped it and all.

Didn't I say in the other thread that I didn't want to see anymore hip carrying children? Why was Bird carrying that big boy? He is ready to go to college put him down!!!

Damon in the shower.....have mercy! He needs to see a Psychiatrist about Christine.... Not only did she bother him in life....now after death too?! I think what she said to him was true.....He needs to let her go.

Max & Kenny.....CrimsonTide4.....I feel you....Just get back together already...I mean really...they are both stubborn and really love each other. He didn't do it...talk about it and move on.
Also, someone please hand me a pair of clippers for Ahmads hair. But then I guess that is the IN thing now....go figure.

Teri...Teri....Teri.....back at Greene Norris? Yes....I believe the attacks are going to come back. Her and Brians friendship are definitely on the rocks. He's the same actor....just a different hair cut. Well at least I thought he was the same person. I could be mistaken.

Wait....did you check what Maxine said to Teri in the kitchen about her not being able to forgive Damon for sleeping with Christine...now the girl is dead and she still can't forgive him? I was like whoa.....that was harsh. Teri was only trying to help.

Overall...... I enjoyed the show. Looking forward to next week.

I don't know what I'm going to do on the 10th.....I'll be at my Boule in New Orleans......I bet you I'll check the hotel to see if they have Showtime! :p

:D :D :D

kiml122 06-27-2002 10:37 AM

I thought it was ok. That is the same Brian. I think that Terri is heading down the wrong road being back at Green Norris, and that Faye Dunaway character has something sinsiter in store for Terri...I can feel it.

When I saw Damon in that shower I thought I was going to pass out. That body was looking dayum good. I agree Damon needs to let her go.

Lem and Bird know damn well that they just barely usually keeping their marriage together so they need not get into Max and Kenny's business.

When I saw Ahmad's hair on the jet a few weeks ago I was like WTH!!

Did you notice when Kenny asked Max if she wanted a divorce her whole attitude changed? Those to need to really talk about the unattractive one they call Lila, and the issue of Max working and get back together and stop this nonesense.

lovele1978 06-27-2002 11:30 AM

Hey if Damon needs a chest... oops, I mean a shoulder to cry on, he can come to me. That shower scene did it for me!!!! Now I know why I am in love with him!!!

Forget the panic attacks, Teri is going to give herself a heart attack with that triffling broad she is working for. I can completely understand her wanting to go back there as a partner, but damn. That lady is using her as a puppet. It's messed up how she did Star Jones like that, but she was asking for it.

Max..... it's all fun and games until he mentions divorce. I can understand being mad, but at least talk to the brother!! They will get back together, I'm sure of it.;)

prayerfull 06-27-2002 11:58 AM

I think I dang near went through the TV during Damon's shower scene. I still can't get that out of my head. Did y'all see the tail on that brotha. OooohhhhhhWeeeeeee. FAN THE PANTIES!!!

The woman who owns the law firm....OK, now I don't really believe in vampires...but she looks like one. I'm actually scared of her. She looks like she drinks blood for breakfast.

Discogoddess 06-27-2002 12:05 PM

I thought the opening credit thingy was corny...for real.

I love Boris Kudjoe as much as the next sista, but Imma need for him to have more "junk in the trunk" if they're going to show his bum. I guess our genes are not dominant all the time. ;)

I cannot stand Vannessa Williams as an actress, so every time I see or hear her, I'm cringing. She is being unreasonable about the Lila thing, and her whole 'bout-ready-to-cry bit after Kenny asked her about divorce was stupid, IMHO. I kinda think Kenny may step out on her, with the thought being, "well, I'm already being accused of it, so I might as well go ahead and do the dirty deed."

And was what up with the slow-mo and freeze frames during the shower scene and the club scene? Why do black shows always have to throw some ol' "extry" mess up in there? That mess looked the dancing portion of our G-fabulous wedding video, when the videographer got happy with his editing machine!

My hubby and I weren't feeling Teri's longer hair, and you just KNOW she's in for some stuff at Green Norris. But why was my soror Star Jones looking good with her crisp white suit on? It made me forgive her for that down-to-her-butt fall she had in the back of her head.

Is it just me, or have others totally lost the feeling with Lem, now that "Darrin's Dance Groove" is out? I was so loving him before ol' boy came out with that corny #ssed commercial for his dance tape/DVD (I was like WHOA when I actually saw the DVD at Costco for $13.99). Like Kiml122 said, both he and Bird need to sit down somewhere with their shaky marriage, trying to be up in someone else's biz.

One last thing: WHY do these sistas look so lame when they try to dance at the club? And WHY IN THE HALE was Ludicris the guest artist? I'm not feeling the whole guest artist every week in the first place (a la NYC Undercover, Ally McBeal, etc.), and he was so not the choice (nor was that the song) they needed to have for the season premiere.

That's all for now.

jojapeach 06-27-2002 01:15 PM

My best friend and I watched it together, and now, she has a standing date to be at my place e'ry Wednesday to enjoy Soul Food. She was panting with the rest of y'all over Damon, but I'm not feeling it. Sorry.

Anyway, that was a great episode. I don't like that broad Katherine hiring Teri back and just leaving her out there to the wolves. It's amazing that Maxine's judgment and instincts were on point about the "shady" circumstances of the meeting which led to shadiness in the office, but she is way off base in her marriage. She is killing me with the way she's treating Kenny. And they have the kids in the middle. Horrible!

On the other hand, Christine is a spirit on a different level. She's smoking while jogging, and she tripped the man up.

I can't wait for the rest of the season!

delph998 06-28-2002 03:11 AM

Discogoddess, you had me ROLLING! Girl, I was feeling you on most of the the things you were saying.

I hate Terri's weave! It's ugly and tired. I loved Bird's hair though. She made me wanna grow my stuff out. Damon did look good in that shower. Lem doesn't look as good to me because of that dance moves video! That's so funny...he looks like a dweebster! However, I loved his beard!! It looks super sexy.

Terri going back to Green Norris was definitely a mistake. She didn't even think things through. I'm sorry, but I think it's time that somebody gave Terri a run for her money. I noticed how Katherine put her on the spot. Even though Katherine's dirty, Terri needs to learn how to take orders properly. I could not believe she was so cool with letting Star Jones (who was looking good) go that easily. That was so wack to me!

I think Max needs to take a chill pill. She was acting all hard but when Kenny asked her for a divorce she softened up a lot.

Overall I think the show was aight. There have been better ones, but I'm assuming that next week's episode will be off the chain!

sphinxpoet 06-28-2002 09:10 AM

LOL @ the post so far! Well That being said......I thought the show laid some real groundwork for season 3. Max and Kenny need to settle this. Nothing happened and let us move on! And of course Kenny would be nervous. What man would not be if his ex secretary sent a letter that his wife read. Even if the information is totally false!

Spinxpoet ,

I was wondering where you were with your comments. Gald to see you are still watching with the rest of us.:D

CrimsonTide4 06-29-2002 04:11 PM

After My Sou; Food Meditation. . .

. . i can add some more thoughts.

#1 -- Opening Credit dance scene, KILL IT. Watching Nicole Ari Parker dance is PAINFUL. Watching her dance with Ludacris was painful as well.

#2 LEM IS STILL FINE. I have selective memory about that corny azz dance video.

#3 Terri betta watch her back becuase Katherine is a cut throat, take no prisoner HUSTLA, err, Lawyer. :p

Yeah Bird killed me carrying that 40 pound baby. They need to have an epsiode where some chillun learn to walk. :p

Aaaaaaaaaah it feels good to share my Soul Food thoughts.

Virtual Violet 06-30-2002 01:33 AM

Damon----In the shower!!! DISTRACTINGLY FINE!!

Teri--Back at Greene Norris: She needs to listen to Maxine on that one, she knows in her heart that it was too soon to go back, but her EGO couldn't pass up the opportunity to stick it to the firm.
Unfortunately, her friend Brian was a casualty.

Maxine and Kenny----OK Max, you've punished Kenny enough. Now its time to cut the BS and get back with him. You see how her face BROKE when Kenny mentioned divorce!!! She ain't ready to be without him, and visa versa. Kenny is going to have to concede that Maxine needs other things in her life besides hubby and kiddies, and give her a chance to find her niche.

Bird and Lem---Stop being nosy and concentrate on your own issues, especially Bird and her immaturity (buying the Mustang, running off on tour with Deborah Cox, hanging with the Bi-sexual woman after she hit on her, etc) I keep expecting something major to happen and Lem is going have had enough.

Lem----THE CHEST, HUBBA HUBBA! I don't care about Darrin's Dance Grooves video...the boy is FINE!

Amhad---He was right, maybe he should start calling his mom and dad "Maxine" and "Kenny". They need to stop putting him in the middle and calling him "Little Man"! He's struggling to understand whats going on too.

Swamp Thang 07-01-2002 02:01 PM

the actress that plays Terri NEED NOT GET HER BOOGIE ON EVER AGAIN on Soul Food :D

I was asking myself the same thing about Kenny and where he lives when I watched it last week. When they were calling back and forth I was like just tell the man to come on back home.

Swamp Thang 07-02-2002 09:25 AM

Kenny

I think Kenny's been living out of his office at Chadway Towing..

CrimsonTide4 07-05-2002 11:29 AM

Hmmmm sounds like you all were just as bored by this week's episode just like me.

I just noticed something but every season we start off with a troubled relationship. Last season was definitely Terri and Damon, first season was Bird and Lem. . . Max and Kenny just need to kiss and makeup.

The highlight of Wednesday's episode was FREE 2 PEE. :D Hilarious. I am a teacher and at the school I just left I was pretty lenient with the passes especially my after lunch classes but our principal instituted a rule, no passes the first and last 10 minutes of class (88 minute classes) and then changed it to 15 minutes. Trust me a lot of kids, 4th period (last class of day) waited til 2:25 to want to pee.

I was getting tired of Christine this show my damn self. Psychic my left toe. Damon could have been and went to her dang on grave. Her family did not have the Armed Guard watching her grave.

Guns, bird, max, kenny, lem --- lawd, there are no words for the possible story line there.

delph998 07-05-2002 04:27 PM

CT4...I agree with you! This episode was defintely boring to me. How many more episodes are there before the season is over? They're not keeping me interested. It didn't bother me that I missed twenty minutes of the show. I've never felt that way about Soul Food...they need to work that out.

There are 20 episodes a season 10 between now and September and then 10 from January til March. They need to have 25 - 30 eps a season.

CrimsonTide4 07-10-2002 11:40 PM

This was a TERRIFIC EPISODE.

For the Damon/Terri SCENE alone, they get http://www.plaudersmilies.de/happy/xyxthumbs.gif.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMOOOOOOOOOOOOON, boooooooooy you betta WORK IT. **wishing I was Nicole Ari Parker the day THAT scene was taped.*** Damon BOLDLY went where no man has gone before. :p http://www.plaudersmilies.de/rofl.gif

The Bird/Mr. Rrrrra Kelly as a math teacher scene was a good story line. Bird, I can see, has always played the part of the troubled youngest child. I was really   @ her losing her virginity to him as well as just being involved with him for 6 months. I am a young looking high school teacher and that first year was hard at times for the simple fact that there were students who thought that I was a student and really tried to get with me. However, I told them I was their teacher and I have a respect for myself as a woman and teacher to NEVER desire any of them. Besides where can a bus pass and a weekly allowance get me? I need a 401K and a car. :p I think it really had to hurt her to know that he also slept with her best friend. The manipulative mofo.

I did LMAO @ Bird for calling Lem a crazy thug. Tee hee.

Oh and Damon, be glad Terri said I want you to stay. She has really forgiven you and you shooooooooowed girlfriend how sorry you were. :o I was pissed for Terri when old dude broke her pic and then Damon broke her table. Had it been me, I woulda got my http://www.plaudersmilies.de/rough/fal.gif and no words would have been necessary.

I am glad to see Max and Kenny back on the road to marital reunification. I really liked that song that Musiq sang. I was CTFU @ Tichina Arnold's scheming ass self and she was the MAIN ONE gossipping. LOL

Next week, LEm returns to being HUSTLEMAN. :(

Anyway Kudos to the Soul Food cast and writers, etc. for turning this season around because last week was dull to me.

kiml122 07-11-2002 07:40 AM

I thought this episode was very good as well. Did you notice how Terri looked like she just woke up from a nightmare when she realized that she and Damon did the horizontal mambo. Ole girl didn't look right at all.

I am so very happy that Kenny and Max seem to be on the road to forgiveness and getting back together. I'm glad that the rumor did start, it made Kenny realize that what he knew to be the truth, may not have been seen by everyone, especially is wife.

That Bird situation with the teacher was deep. CT4, my youngest brother is the same way as you. He is a very young looking male teacher, and he teaches high school and the girls love being around him. One thing that he does not do is ever find himself in a situation where he is alone with a female student. Some of these young girls today are scandalous, plus he is 6'6" and like I said everyone actually male and female students love being around him or in his class. He has sense enough to know not to ever cross that line of teacher and student.

When I was student teaching, I was given some good advice: Never be alone with a student. Now there have been times that I have taken a couple of students home or out to eat but I believe God gives you a spirit of discernment and I have learned to discern who I can take home or out to eat, etc. Plus whenever I did that in the past, we called a parent and told them from jump.

But I have never been one to think a student is cute AND act on it. I give my students compliments all the time (because that might be the only one they get all day from an adult) but I never say, "OOO BOY I want you."

It is tough enough being a teacher without having the stigma of being a molester attached to your resume.

Overall I really liked the story line.

lovele1978 07-11-2002 09:28 AM

Terri is killing me!!

What is her issue??!! I really don't understand why she was acting all blown after sleeping with Damon. SHOOOOOOOO, let that be me :D . That would be the look that I would wake up with the next day.

Ohsoprettynupe, I'm feeling you with Birds hair. I was really studying her styles so I could replicate them. Her hair is always cute. I find myself watching the show so I can get ideas for a new hairstyle.

I just want to reiterate the fact that Borris is fine as all get out. Damn that man is fine and I'm usually in to the dark skinned brothers. Whew, I need to shake off the flash backs of the show so I can get on with my day.

Dang nab it! I missed it again last night, putting in a marathon night at work (here 'til 1:00 a.m., back at 7:00...you know it's bad when you leave AFTER the 3rd shift security guard comes on and come back BEFORE he leaves!! :( )

Can some one tell me when Showtime does the repeat of Soul Food?

candygirl 07-11-2002 12:17 PM

LMAO, oh my goodness. I thought that fool was talking about the girls hair. Then I kind of wondered, "Why the hell does he care about her hair?" Since he's talking about the girls underwear I can't quite agree with him on that one.

Eclipse, the repeats are on Sunday nights so just check you local listings. Its usually at 10:30 here in Chicago/central time. For the past couple of weeks its been reairing on Mondays as well, so just check.

Hi Sorors and SFs:

I missed the majority of last night's episode and only caught the end which seemed rather juicy!

Which night is the rerun night? Is it Sunday or some other night of the week? What time?

Thanks all!!!

Oop! Nevermind.

Was that not the BEST scene eva!?!?!

Terri really made me ill acting as if she'd just had a bad dream or something. I think that if Terri plays the role like she doesn't want to be bothered w/Damon, then he needs to move on.

I agree that the previous episode was a yawner but they came back w/a bang.

Maxine's Mandingo Mystery Man (at the beginning) was also a looker.

CrimsonTide4 07-14-2002 12:40 PM

BP is good for something after all. . .

The hit Showtime series Soul Food enters its third season and the drama has moved well beyond the original 1997 film. Vanessa Williams of "The Cosby Show" and Drop Squad plays Maxine (Vivica Fox`s character in the movie). Williams describes the middle child of the three sisters as "the keeper of traditions who thinks she`s the big boss." Williams speaks to BlackPlanet.com about Hollywood, humanity, and how Maxine`s marriage and career get completely redefined.

What is the overall message of the show?
Life is wonderful. Soul Food is a show about a family. The trials and tribulations they go through, the challenges that they live in trying to be the best people they can be.

What is your character`s conflict and motivation?
Season two left off with there being a challenge in Maxine`s relationship of thirteen years to Kenny. They are challenged by infidelity. He didn`t actually step out on her, but she found a letter from a woman who is in love with him and she wasn`t having it. So when we return to season three we see what the fall out is. He is not living at home and they have to kind of reintroduce themselves to each other.

Is Maxine facing any other challenges?
Yes. In season three you`ll get to see Maxine move out of the house. That has been a challenge of hers since the beginning. She has wanted to do more than just be a mom and a wife. She is very pleased with her job as the mom and the wife, but she wants to do more, she wants to contribute more. So she gets out of the house. She works in a shelter for women and gets to see what the workforce is like, if it`s all it`s cracked up to be, and if she`ll get challenged there.

Where has the show grown and changed most since it began?
I think we`ve gotten more solid as a cast. We started out like instant family, add water and stir. Now those bonds have gotten even stronger, and because we are so close and loving toward each other — as corny as that may seem — it reflects on the screen. It`s probably one of the reasons people believe what we are saying because we have a love and regard for each other that is both on and off the screen. We are family. Nicole and Melinda are now living together. Nay sayers might have thought that three women leads would have been catty and at each other`s throats by season three, if we even got that far, but we have defied any of that kind of negativity. We maintain each other and build each other up and are even closer now. Those are my sisters on and off the screen.

Presently, there are no hour-long Black dramas on network television, only half hour sit-coms. Soul Food is on cable, but will it help change things?
Hopefully, because we are making history, even for cable. We have proved a lot of executives who had no interest in producing Black drama wrong. We have proved that it is possible, it is lucrative, and it is successful. We have people on both sides of the screen who don`t need it translated what Black people actually do because they themselves have that experience. Those things go into why the show is successful. We have Black writers and executives in those decision-making meetings going, `This is valid. This is true.` There`s no need for translations. If there ever is translating that needs to be done then it`s being done in those rooms. It`s not like the creative staff has to convince the suits, because they all live that experience. And that`s just the stepping stone we bounce off of, because beyond that the truth is the truth, humanity is humanity. A woman from Miami stopped me in the airport. She`s from a total different demographic — white, 55, living in Florida — and totally sees herself and her own family in the lives of these women and men on the show. So when you start with your own personal truth, you find that it`s all really human truth.

What do aspiring young actors need to know before getting into television?
Learn your craft in front of the camera, but also learn what goes on in that booth. I only wish I had done more of that earlier. When I had a character on "The Cosby Show," Bill Cosby always offered me chances to sit with the camera people and set crews, but I was young and wasn`t there yet, but later I realized I didn`t do it nearly enough. To get into this business you need to learn the whole business. There are technical aspects as well as financial aspects that can only help you down the line. If you`re talented in front of the camera, that`s great, but knowing what`s happening when the cameras are off is what will make you successful.

**Guess who has the Men of Soul Food screensaver from www.sho.com??**:D
