Any Foreign Languages?

While I'm not fluent in anything other than English. I'm functional in : Spanish, Portuguese, French. For a while my minor was Latina American and Latino Studies so I tried to learn everything in case I got the chance to travel.

I speak 'functional/conversational' Spanish....

I am learning to speak Haitian-Creole....but I am finding it to be a bit difficult. :(

Mildy proficient in written and spoken French. In fact, if anyone is looking for a French activity partner via Internet, let me know...I really am getting rusty.

Same thing for Florida--heck the fast food places down here have Spanish-English menus. I just wish they would declare Spanish the official language of the United States and get it over with.

Francophone. I've kept up with it after high school by watching "French In Action" reruns on tv.

I mentor in a Hispanic neighborhood, so I know a little spanish.. but I have learned that I have no ability to pronounce the words correctly. But hey it makes the kids laugh, so I can't complain....

..trying to learn Japanese as I would like to take a trip there in the near future.

..does Latin count?

Fluency...

I am fluent in Spanish. I speak a little Haitian-Creole (father from Haiti), patois (broken English/West Indian dialect, and a little French. )

Tru Blue Lady 06-27-2002 02:57 AM

I can speak French and I can understand Spanish, but can't speak it.

MIDWESTDIVA 06-27-2002 01:06 PM

I speak enough spanish to get by, but am trying to become fluent.

LOL! For real!

Fluent in Spanish, have a working knowledge of patois and creole (read: can understand it fully, but can't speak a lick)!

Lots of Caribbean influence! ;)

--BA degree in French, was French linguist in military...
--took Spanish (as part of my degree requirements) but that was back in 1992, LOL!!
(however, i still can understand it passably)

when my family speaks Dominican Patois (a french dialect of the island my family is from), i speak French back to them...and somehow we understand each other! :D

3 years of French in high school, but I've never really used it. 2 months of Spanish--I had to drop the class because all of the French I forgot decided to come back and haunt me. It became too confusing so I had to learn it on my own with my Spanish-speaking friends teaching me common words and phrases. One of my best friends is German, so I learned a bit of the Deusch(sp?--I speak it not spell it:)) from her. Since I plan on traveling to Italy and Japan, I've learned a few phrases of both Japanese and Italian.

Want a partner?

I speak enough spanish to get by (mainly because my fluency is a South American dialect which is very proper and has African and Portuguese influence). I understand very little Cherokee, Patois, and Siksikan (My indian language derived from the Iroquois).

My boyfriend has taught me some Vietnamese. I can read and write Japanese (never tried to speak). I use to speak a little Russian (learned as a child), but it's disappearing from non-use. I can read Latin.

And does reading Greek letters count? (hehe).

I love languages!

I speak English, Kiswahili, & a moderate amount of Spanish. I'm still studying spanish.

My father speaks French and Creole, but I only know the bad words. When he gets mad, it's Patois all the way boy! I also know a minor amount of Cherokee! Hi Five to my AmerIndian sister!

I think everyone should speak a minimun of 2 languages.

I'm functional in Spanish, and can read and translate Latin (though no one speaks it anymore). I'm thinking of taking up the Mandarin dialect of Chinese since it would really come in handy in Vancouver.

soror,

I am finally taking some mandarin chinese classes, let me tell you it's intense ( most of my difficulty comes because I insist on pronouncing everything with a french accent)
