Maxim who reads it?

Are there any ladies out there who read maxim? I read it and I think it has some interesting stuff in it. I like to read some of the stories they have. I also like to read about how men should wow a women and see how far off it is. But I do enjoy reading it. I just wanted to know who else reads it and what do you think about it?

TLAW 06-25-2002 05:31 PM

Maxim is a little too "No Ma'am" for me... funny, but I don't think I'd get a subscription. I do prefer Men's Health.

Kevlar281 06-25-2002 05:31 PM

Cover to cover but the quality has been lacking lately.

bcdphie 06-25-2002 05:34 PM

I enjoy reading Maxim - it's hilarious.

ROWDYsister 06-25-2002 06:13 PM

Maxim's pretty entertaining sometimes...my friend from high school emailed me this with the subject line: "Remember that frat boy?" I really didn't know what he was referring to...

"Win Over Any Woman!
The 40 indispensable rules of scoring-don't go out without them. Plus, our expert panel reveals the worst pick-up lines of all time30.

Never lean out too far for a kiss. Your body should be right up close to hers so that all you have to do is turn your head and extend your face ever so slightly. Your lips should be on hers before she's had a chance to think. If she has to watch your big head make the approach from an odd angle, she may bob and weave."

LOL.

i'm a woman and i absolutely love maxim magazine. i don't remember how i stumbled upon it. although i'm not yet a subscriber, i read it about every other month.

blueyes 06-25-2002 08:52 PM

Nope. I have only so many hours to spend on reading, watching, etc. and Maxim is not on any of my lists of to do's.

AlphaGam1019 06-25-2002 09:29 PM

I bought Brandon a 3 year subscription to Maxim and I have to admit I enjoy reading it too!

xok85xo 06-25-2002 09:33 PM

i love reading maxim almost more then i like to read cosmo..i usually snag and read my brother's copy before he gets his hands on it..

Had it for a year and got bored with it. It went from being a magazine with pretty cool articles and some funny stuff in it to being a catalog....

I heard they've improved since.

phikappapsiman 06-25-2002 11:16 PM

Actually, I find Maxim pretty informative. I think of it as a PG-rated Playboy-no nudity, but good looking women in skimpy outfits, interesting articles, and funny stories. I would have it on my coffee table rather than Playboy-but not over GQ.

KappaStargirl 06-25-2002 11:20 PM

KappaStarboy gets Maxim and I read it, but it doesn't thrill me. Some of the articles are good, but did anyone see this month's issue. Apparently "Lipstick Lesbians" frequent sorority houses. It's sort of like Cosmo for guys.

I like Men's Health better...Honda is running a really cool ad for the new Accord in this month's MH, showing a picture of the sleek shiny black car and the caption reads "The automotive equivalent of a really hot librarian." At the bottom it says things along the lines of "sexy yet smart." Being a librarian (and a not-too-bad-looking one if I do say so myself), I found it hilarious, and so did everyone at work.

ChiOJenn78 06-25-2002 11:28 PM

I love Maxim!! I bought Mr. ChiOJenn a subscription, but steal it before he gets a chance to read it. Very funny stuff-often better than most women's magazines.

AOX81 06-26-2002 08:52 AM

I read it because I think it's hilarious. I usually buy it for the hubby but I probably read more out of it than he does...he just drools on the cover and that's about it :D

AGDPrincess70 06-26-2002 10:53 AM

I love Maxim! I think it's hilarious. My (female) roommate actually got a subscription to it because we like it so much!

Plus, guys think it's hot that we read it :D

I LOVE Maxim!! I like to read it and then tell my boyfriend how on or off the mark they are. (i.e. "If you ever tried that with me, I would dump you!") Besides, the mag is funny and all my guy friends think I am so cool for reading it. Similarly, my boyfriend reads my Cosmo's sometimes for basically the same reasons (and the the hot models, but I pretend like I don't that).

In the vein of Lifesaver . . .

Just to show you how serious Maxim can be for some guys . . .

One of my best friends growing up had a recent get-together at lovely Iowa State University . . . so I sucked up my pride and headed up to Ames, for a night of barhopping and partying with the kids I grew up with. Tony also happens to be a charter subscriber to Maxim magazine, and keeps every issue in pristine condition . . . he loves the magazine like his mother.

Well, long story short, we ended up teaching a few quick billiards lessons and exceeding our recommended daily allowance of bourbon, and head back at bartime. Around 6am, I wake up off the couch with a bit of a "Rumblin' in the gut" . . . so I head off o the bathroom and "do the deed."

Well . . . lo and behold, as I reach for the roll of TP, I find it to be not only empty but freaking missing. In fact, quick inspection of the bathroom yields no TP, no paper towels, no napkins, no tissue, no sani-wipes, no tree bark, no cardboard, nothing. In fact, the only thing around is the last 6 months of Maxim magazine . . .

. . . but I recall that Tony is, in fact, legally insane with regard to Maxim magazine. So, that option is out - let's face it, if there is suddenly poopy all over the issue with Melissa Joan Hart, I'm going to be murdered and that's the bottom line.

After a little bit of soul searching, laughing my ass off, and nearly crying, I discover my Calle del Oro . . . a washrag belonging to the third roommate, who I don't know very well. Strips of this rag serviced nicely, and prevented a Maxim-induced, untimely end to my life.

Guys take Maxim extremely seriously - I'd suggest women do the same.

peachy 07-09-2002 03:57 PM

Maxim!

Mr. Peachy subscribes, and I read it as well. It's thought-provoking, with some humor and self-deprication thrown in. This month's report on the Maxim road trip contest was hysterical. Why don't women have this much carefree fun?

Most ladies' magazines (a) take themselves too seriously and (b) limit reader participation to the letters/useful tips departments. Ho-hum!

Starlet 07-09-2002 11:29 PM

I have read some articles from Maxim just because they were lying around my guy friend's apartment one day and I decided to look through them. The articles are interesting because they're coming from a different perspective over the usual Glamour magazines I have been getting in the mail. Actually, I'm considering getting a subscription to Maxim pretty soon.

ChiOqt 07-09-2002 11:29 PM

I love it..I always take one a friend's copy and sit and laugh! It's just like guys reading our Cosmo's!!:D

jojapeach 07-09-2002 11:36 PM

I read it when I can find a copy, and I find it hilarious. I still remember one of the earlier issues had an article on men who are not circumcised. It was kinda clinical but touched on personal issues also. It was actually informative and made me appreciate my "friend" at the time who was uncircumcised. I'll always respect the magazine for the content, but those ads with the women sprawled and posed all kinds of ways irk me. Then again, I know they're not looking for my demographic.
