Who else is super super excited about rush?

Anybody else sneaking a peek at their school's panhellenic website to see who the processed PNMs are? I just can't help checking out who's already signed up! Normally when I see someone whom I haven't seen in awhile I get really excited...and it would be wildly inappropriate for me to exclaim in the middle of a party, "Omigod! You're rushing? How cool!!!!!" Well, I know I wouldn't do that...but just to be safe.....:)

Recruitment week is getting closer and closer.....

I'm so excited!

ps: I just hope "Spirit Week" (aka "Work Week") doesn't kill us first!
pps: I'm sorry, all. Why am I so peppy right now? Hopped up on coffee. And plus it'll be my first recruitment "on the other side."

Kevin 06-24-2002 09:05 AM

Recruitment is always exciting. A few new familiar faces around campus every semester. I wish we could do it more often!

<raises Hand>

I'm super excited about rush right now. On Saturday i'm going to my first rush party on the other side. Plus it'll be the only time until early august that I get to hang out with my bros. Of course I have to get through this week of being "on session" for space camp...

carnation 06-24-2002 03:28 PM

<turns 3 back handsprings>

Yes! I'm fired up for the twins rushing!!!! It's only, what, 6 or 7 weeks away! I hope they have a ball and that they don't get hurt.

And I'm excited for all the rushees on GC and can't wait to read all the PNM threads!!

UDThetaGirl 06-24-2002 04:21 PM

I'm so psyched to go through my first rush as a sister and meet tons of new girls that want to be Thetas! ;) It must be such an awesome, fun time! I can't wait!

justamom 06-24-2002 04:38 PM

The girls have to be back at LSU around Aug. 10th.
My lil DG and 2 of her sisters drove to Houston to meet up with ANOTHER sister to do some shopping for their rush. The 2 spent the night so Hubby and I had the pleasure of taking them to the Club for dinner. All these waiters kept our glasses full and offered us evething on the menue at least a dozen times!!! I've never HAD such service! LOL (My son was sure to bring his buddies over and did they ever "smell GOOD ;) )

They are all so excited it made ME excited for them. This will be their first time so they want to be perfect. They let me in on some of their plans so now I'm sitting here wishing I was back there with them. Too bad I won't get the inside scoop anymore...
Oh well, I'll get a few trinkets tossed my way when it's all over!:D

TaraHopeful 06-24-2002 04:46 PM

Oh my gosh, I am so nervous about rush. You all know how it felt when you went through as a PNM. I'm semi-freakin out. Will i get a bid? Will they like me? Am i wearing he right outfit? Do i need a rec? etc etc etc.....I'm excited, nervous and happy all at the same time....I can't wait!

justamom 06-24-2002 05:28 PM

Tara, are you going to do us a favor and start a thread? I hope so. Don't be too nervous.

I think the following is true for a majority of sororities on all campuses. I'll tell you as honestly as I can.

These girls are just as anxious as you are. They also have very concrete ideas of what they are looking for in the PNM's.........
They want a group of girls that they can hang with, share themselves with and call "sister" from their hearts.

The LSU DGs are big sisters their Soph year. (Maybe it's that way everywhere for everyone) They don't hold offices because being a Big IS their job. That's why, when the PNMs walk through the door, all these first timers will be looking at the girls with the knowledge that anyone could end up their little sis. Their pledge class is strong and close and THAT's what they want to find. They want REAL girls (warts and all) who THEY can be themselves with.

The classes ahead of them must have wanted the same things because like does attract like. They were talking about their own Bigs with as much love as their closest friends. There were 75 pledges last year and that's a BIG voice. Good thing, because according to our weekend chat, they are in harmony.

Be warm, be confident, be yourself!

I love rush!

I just graduated in May, but I'm still super excited about Rush, or for the more PC in the group, Recruitment. I'm helping out this year since I was on Rec. Exec last year and I am just as excited. Unfortunately I won't have the stop watch or bell this Rush, but I'm looking forward to the two weeks just as well.

Best of luck to everyone going through Rush on both sides and to all the alumni helping out too.

I LOVE RUSH!!!

Tara

I have a Phi Mu castle...

ROWDYsister 06-24-2002 06:24 PM

Justamom is right! I haven't gone through rush on the other side yet but I know that all second year sisters who will be taking littles that year sort of have in the back of their minds, "Hmm, who's going to be my little?" It's funny because sometimes sisters develop "Rush Crushes." We don't just want to make quota--we want to have the best pledge class in our history! You guys are the future of our houses!

TaraHopeful, IcePrincess98, and all potential members, we will be as excited as you are to welcome you into our lives on Bid Day! We're all embarking on this journey together!

Whoa that was cheesy.

:D

ps: Can I just say that when I'm reading the new responses to threads, the responses on this thread are actually making me smile (in comparison to groaning or rolling my eyes or throwing my hands up in frustration). Rush and Initiation are the best times for us to remember how great it is to be Greek!

jharb 06-24-2002 06:47 PM

I can't wait for COB in the fall and Formal Rush in January! :D I loved my rush experience and I love the girls in my pledge class that we got through COB! Yay for Rush/Recruitment/whatever your school calls it! :D

Jess

TaraHopeful 06-24-2002 06:58 PM

Justamom- i will be sure to start a thread as soon as my rush "experience" begins. Hopefully the thread will be full of good things...haha....
I think my rush starts on august 20th, so i have quite a bit of time to freak out and ask questions to you guys/gals.

P.S. PhiMuNursie- how do you pronounce your name? Tear-uh or tar-uh? mine is tear-uh....just wondering

PhiMuNursie 06-24-2002 07:02 PM

TaraHopeful...mine is pronounced same as yours Tear-uh. I have an Aunt who still says Tar-uh and I want to scream...she's had 22 years to get it right! Anyway, best of luck and any questions you have we love to answer. As you can tell Rush is (in my opinion) the best time for us and we love talking about it! What school are you going to?

Tara

I have a Phi Mu castle...

TaraHopeful 06-24-2002 07:07 PM

I'm going to the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.....a big change from Florida, but hey. It's a beautiful campus....i think i'm going to have to get used to shopping at WalMart though b/c it's the only store in the town....AAHHHHH...pull the trigger now. Anyways, i'm rambling...

Ya my teachers at school always call me tar-uh too. So annoying! I stopped correcting them after the 1st year...

KerriMarie 06-25-2002 12:34 AM

Rush!

I'm getting excited about Rush - part of it is that I just want to get back to my sisters and my house, as it's been a pretty boring summer, but I am also excited about meeting new people and all that. This fall semester is my last chance to get a little sister, so hopefully I'll find a good one during Rush. I am excited about sharing Kappa and all that it means to me with other girls...

ECUKaitlyn 06-25-2002 01:18 AM

I am super excited about recruitment!! I just went to orientation last week and I met a lot of other girls going through rush too and we drove down the main road the campus is on to check out some of the houses! The ones we saw were all beautiful, but we couldn't find houses for some of the sororities. One of our Orientation Advisors was in a fraternity, so he gave us a lot of info on greek life. We also got to pick up applications and I sent mine off yesterday!! I am so excited!! Only 8 weeks to go! YEA! :)

AOX81 06-25-2002 08:59 AM

I'm really excited for our new girls to experience rush from the "other side". I remember my first time as a member and it was awesome!

justhey76 06-25-2002 11:27 PM

Im really excited! I got all of my Panhellenic info on saturday in the mail, and I've just sent out all of the pictures and copies of resumes and Information forms today...Can you say EAGER! Hehe!

BlondeGurl 06-26-2002 01:13 AM

SUPER EXCITED

I am soooo excited about Rushing this fall. My Rush starts Aug 21 and I am super nervous, but super excited at the same time.:p I am afraid everything will be a little overwhelming (just beginning school and being away from home AND to add to that Rushing). I could just explode with the anticipation and excitement though. :D

TaraHopeful 06-26-2002 01:18 AM

BlondeGurl: where are you rushing?

JoyfulMuse 06-26-2002 02:24 AM

Hopeful

I'm really excited for rush but it seems that I'll have to wait until fall quarter just to go to any COB events. More hopeful than nervous. With 16 sororities on campus, I'm bound to find at least one I really click with. I'm curious about something...are the girls who rush and join through COB regarded as not as important as the formal rushees?

GiantsChic 06-26-2002 04:42 PM

I still haven't decided if I'm going to go through formal rush this fall (did it last fall and informal spring, but got my hopes set on 1 house- didn't work out)... I really am thinking about rushing, but I'm really nervous cuz i don't know what the houses will think. I hope they don't think bad of me because this would be my 3rd rush (ie- think I'm undesirable)... If i do go through again, I know more of the girls in different houses, but still have no recs (which aren't very important at my school, but every little bit counts)... I wish everybody good luck and hope everything works out!

You should not be treated any differently than a girl who has gone through formal rush. :)

AZDZetaSigma03 06-26-2002 07:09 PM

JoyfulMuse--people who go through informal rush (like me!) are every bit as important as the formal rushees.

And about Rush/Recruitment....I hate to seem like I have a bad attitude but I really hate it. I'm horrible at small talk and I get so nervous beforehand. Plus it's hard when, like at my chapter, you know most of the people you give bids to are going to turn them down. It's also hard when you only have 12 people in a house to work with and you don't fit into any sorority stereotypes!!

orchid2 06-28-2002 08:27 PM

I'm so excited! This is my first year rushing from the other side and I can't believe its almost here. I can't wait to meet all the new girls and welcome another Phi class into our family. :)

Betarulz! 07-01-2002 12:55 AM

Just got home from a weekend in Nebraska and my only opportunity of the summer to help out with rush, but seeing the guys we've signed and hearing how well everything is going has me super excited to see the rest of our pledges!!!

The signees I met yesterday are all frickin' studs...really have their stuff together and it was great to get a chance to hang out with them.

Everything our Rush chairs said yesterday as well was super positive: We had 13 guys signed, handed out 4 more bid cards yesterday, and have a list of guys who want to sign with us that is close to 30 people long...we should have no trouble reaching our goal of 24 pledges!!!http://www.plauder-smilies.de/jump.gif

beachbunnyjenn 07-02-2002 05:17 PM

I'm super excited about rush :), I hope to find a group of sisters that I can feel totally comfortable with and be able to tell all my secrets to. Good luck to all my fellow girls who are also rushing!

Yippe

I am so excited for you girls who will be rushing in the fall. :) I love my glo and couldnt imagine my life without it. This year will be my first rush on "the other side." AHHHH Im freaking !! But our rush is in the spring which stinks. :( So I cant wait to hear all of your stories so I can get pumped for when our rush finally comes around
Good LUCK!!!!

UCLAGUrl~
From what I understand of UCLA greek life... it's not VERY competetive.. there are a lot of girls going through.. so a rec would probably help you stand out... but almost all of the girls going through end up getting bids (bids aren't a given, but) it's not like some of the cut throat southern schools out there. I hope this helps and if you want I can put you in touch with some members there.. I have quite a few friends there that I can put you in touch with.

OnePlus69Is70 07-03-2002 12:52 AM

OK, I should be wicked excited about rush, but I'm incredibly nervous. If anything goes wrong, my chapter is toast. The class graduating next year just happens to be huge- in May we'll be losing half the current brothers. If we don't replace them, we won't be able to fill the house.

I know we can do it, and there's nothing to worry about, and it's going to be great, but the high stakes take a lot of the fun out of the whole thing. I was really excited until somebody pointed out the graduation thing. Oh well.

59 more days......

DGprincess 07-03-2002 02:02 AM

Oh, I am soooo excited about recruitment! This fall is the first semester my chapter will have gone through formal recruitment, so we are all eagerly awaiting the wonderful experience!

RockChalk 07-08-2002 01:02 PM

I cannot wait for rush to start! Well, not really rush... I'll be joining a colony which will be having their own mini-rush after formal rush is over.

fabulous229 07-16-2002 10:47 PM

I'm too too excited for rush, and the nerves are definately getting to me! But I'm trying to stay positive.:p

JMUduke 07-17-2002 12:59 PM

I am really excited to go through it on the other side...I can't wait to meet tons of girls, I am just nervous about how they will react to me!! I hope the new girls are awesome, and I cannot wait to get a little!!:D

EagleChick19 07-17-2002 02:00 PM

I can't wait for Rush! I'm so excited!!! It'll be my third time going through Rush! But, its well worth it!

EvanNichole 07-17-2002 02:39 PM

I am so excited about rush. I'm also a little nervous because I'm one of the only people from my high school going to OSU. I am the only one going through rush. We have 11 sororities and rush starts on August 9th. I move into the rush dorm on August 8.

EagleChick19 07-17-2002 02:58 PM

You'll do fine!! :)

GiantsChic 07-17-2002 04:21 PM

Good luck Nichole! I'm sure things will work out great, and we all can't wait to hear about your rush experiences!

RockChalk 07-17-2002 04:56 PM

You'll be fine, Nichole! I know a bunch of women in sororities at Oklahoma State and they're all lovely people.

EvanNichole 07-18-2002 12:31 PM

Should I make my own thread when I move to Stillwater? I'm already a little nervous but also totally excited.. I have all of my clothes and I made sure that I have at least one rec for each chapter. I'll list the chapters and what I 'm wearing if you don't mind. If anyone has a suggestion about my clothes feel free to post it.

11 party day - mandatory rush t-shirt (everyone has to wear it
and we don't know what color it is until we get
there) with khaki capris and new white stacked
sole sneakers

8 party day - a lavender capri pant outfit that I got at Harold's
it has embroidery on the cuffs and I have a pair of
strappy sandals that match

5 party day - a bright pink dress that goes to mid calf and has
side slits to a little above the knee, it has one sleeve
and a strap that ties on the other side so it's kind of
"one-armed" but it isn't at all low cut or slutty, with
strappy black sandals

3 party day - a sleeveless black dress that goes to mid calf and
strappy black heels

I know this is really detailed but I'm nervous and I love clothes. I think I'm going to major in clothing design or merchandising.

The houses that OSU has are:
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Chi Omega
Gamma Phi Beta
Delta Delta Delta
Zeta Tau Alpha
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi
Phi Mu
Chi Omega
