What is your best dish..home in your kitchen
My roomates and I take turns cooking in our College Apt. What's great about it all, well besides the food, we share different traditions on making it. Between the 4 of us, there are 5 ways to make cornbread! :D

I've been thinking of starting a thread about this. Way to go, beating me to it! ;)
Everyone loves my mexican rice and my almond-crusted chicken. Yum, yum! If you want the recipe, let me know! I LOOOVE to cook so c'mon GC'ers! I want to make some new dishes. :p |
Hamburger helper. Ok so I can't cook well, lol

We call them Tacos. Tacos are rearely only served in crunchy corn shells. Tacos are any substance in a flour tortilla. A burrito is the same thing, just way bigger, like the size of your plate. My specialty is Pappas con huevos. potato and egg tacos. Fry some cubed (small) potatos and brown them in oil. THen drain the oil, add scrambled egg mixture. Viola! Wonderful, chap and hearty. If you are feeling adventureous, and need to clean out the fridge, I suggest Migas. (I noticed that Uncle Ben's has begun selling them in its breakfast bows selections in the freezer) Anyway, theyre awesome. In one pan, in a bit of olive oil, sautee chopped onions, bell pepper, celery what have you and let it begin to brown a bit, then add some chopped garlic, add it later, as you dont want it to scorch, so it has to be added last. Anyway, as son as it is gettin gclose to being done, add some broken corn chips - like tostidos. those will absorb some of the oil. Then when they begin to soften, add the egg mixture, which is scrambeled egg stuff with a few teaspns of water added. And treat it liek its scrambeled eggs with extra. Cook to desired consistancy. Sreve with Picante sause (I prefer pico instead, but whatever) garnish with Cilantro, and serve with tamales if you can get them, orange juice. mmmmmm. Meal fit for a king. THats a good Saturday moring for me. |
I make a mean grilled cheese. Ha Ha....
My honeymustard chicken breast is also tre fab. Who says teenagers can't cook? |

You get a few corn tortillas and cut them up into squares. You fry these until they are almost crisp. Remove some of the oil b/c you will have excess from the frying. At that point, you add in your onions, bell pepper and/or tomato and brown. You then add in your egg and spices. Now this is the REAL way Andy. :D Yum yum! CAMPING MIGAS (This is how we make migas when camping): You throw some fritos w/oil into a pan and fry. Then you add add all that other good stuff. |

One of my favorite things to make is rice pudding. I also love to marinade steak and chicken in terryaki sauce. Yummy.

For some reason I thought this thread was about dishes (plates) were down to only one normal size dish in our house. :(

I love to cook - it's one of my hobbies.
Here's an easy recipe for roast chicken. You can get a vertical roaster at stores like Lechter's - it's a drip pan with 2 metal W-shaped wires. You slot the W's into the drip pan so that they intersect. If you can't get a vertical roaster you can use a mason jar on top of a cookie sheet or broiling pan. On top of this, you place a chicken, legs pointing down, seasoned with whatever you want (pepper, rosemary, oregano, etc.) Place in a 450 degree oven, 15 minutes per pound. It bastes itself and the fat drips right off. LOL @ all the broken dishes... My husband is a bit of a klutz, and we have replaced many many plates, bowls, crystal martini glasses... :( |
Not much of a cook, but I can BBQ with the best of 'em.

You so make your own masa, dont you? Hats off with respect. Better person than I. Although, I'll admit, I do own my own comal. |
Posting here 'cause I don't feel like going into the whole recipe thing, but I have a specialty I call my $100,000 African Peanut Soup. I got it from my advisor in college, who wouldn't give it to me until I graduated. The numbers, of course, reflect 4 years of tuition at $25,000 a year.

I usually don't make my own masa, but I know how! :D And about the comal, . Wow! I am so proud of you! :) I think here at home we have about 3, why, I do not know. |
I'm not much of a cook so the only things that I can make that taste good are lemon & pepper marinated chicken and green bean casserole...yummy :)
|
I make a good stuffed Cabbage with Sour Kraut, baked potatoe and Bratwurst. Simple, but...mmmmmmm....its good.
My other favorite is, any kind of chicken breast.....Cuban, carribean, parmesean, citrus, cajun, BBQ, Thai, smoke and sometimes fried. Other than that, anything on the grill I can cook. Steak, chicken, burger, sausage, veggies, Lobster, scallops, shrimp and 1/2 shell OYSTERS---YUM! The rest i could leave for the woman to do. |
My favorite thing to make in the kitchen is baked goods. I have an excellent recipe for Makers Mark Brownies and a Chocolate Suicide Cake. I also make lasagna and a variety of chicken. If anyone wants the recipes let me know.

I also forgot to add to my list that I am the Queen of Banana Bread. I just made some last night and it will be gone before I go to bed tonight :) |
my modified migas recipe:
scramble some eggs (I use 4 eggs, about 1/4 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon butter), when they are starting to get some consistency add in the corn chips and hot sauce (I like hot sauce rather than pico). Add some cheddar cheese. You can also add in some jalapenos. Serve on flour tortillas. Makes a good breakfast, lunch or dinner-ummmmmmm. Life-I will have to try your recipe sometime-sounds good! I cook a lot at school and I'm quite good at it, I make a killer spaghetti sauce (lots of chunks and garlic) I make a batch in my 16 quart nesco and freeze it in gladware and then I have it for any time I want to use it. I also make wonderful gingersnaps and a great apple pie (homemade crust, although my mom's is better). I'm more of a baker than a cook.

I forgot what this candy is called but I recall making this in home ec. It's peanutbutter, rice crispies, and honey mixed together, topped/dipped in carmel. Though it may sound a little nasty, it is really good!
|
I make this sandwich where I put a little cooking oil in the pan and then just random chopped veggies... ESPECIALLY mushrooms and onions. Then I grill it up -- fry it sort of. I'm not that handy in the kitchen so that's the best I can do!
