Although I dont think we have any Alums that are household names, Im sure that we have quite a few sisters that are famous in their own arena of Expertise. I cant name any names though, Sorry!!

I don't know if she ever gained alum status, but I know that Sarah Jessica Parker was a Theta Phi at University of Cincinnati. Hope that helps a little :)

hmmm

i heard about the marge schott connection, but the SJP one was new, so i emailed NO. sue checked the database, and unless she went by a different name, SJP is not a TPA. not an initiated one, anyway. maybe she started the pledge program?

anyway, i really wanted it to be true, so i just surfed the web for some bio information on her. a lot of sites list her high school information, but not one site listed college...

so, the signs aren't looking so good that that's true :(

luv n tpa 08-06-2007 06:24 PM

I know this is quite an old thread, but I met SJP a few months ago and asked her myself if she was a Theta Phi. She looked at me quizically and asked what Theta Phi Alpha was. She said that she was embarrassed to admit to us that she never even went to college. I said I was disappointed, and she's like "I know, we could have been sisters! That's okay, we'll pretend."

Sorry ladies, she's such a sweetheart, but she's not a Theta Phi.

I'm not a Theta Phi, but I thought this was funny because I've seen other sororities "claim" SJP on their individual chapter websites (KKG and Alpha Phi to name a few), not knowing that she never even went to college!

SJP never went to college and is not a member of ANY sorority!

There are plenty of famous Theta Phis! The founder of the special olympics, mothers against drunk driving, the first women to win a pulitzer prize in literature, the co-founder of habitat for humanity. just to name a few!

You're close in saying that but actually all of these women were Siena Medalists. "The medal is the highest honor the organization bestows upon a non-member and is named after St. Catherine of Siena."
So they're not members but they were recognized by Theta Phi Alpha for their outstanding efforts/actions/etc.

I have heard that Louise Kelly Bailey, sister of actor Gene Kelly, was a Theta Phi ( University of Pittsburgh). She was also in a dance group with him before he became famous. Can anyone confirm if she is a sister? :-)

TPA85 03-07-2011 11:27 PM

Just checked the members database and there is a Louise Kelly Bailey but no information about her.

TPARose 03-08-2011 04:09 PM

It would make sense if she were a Theta Phi.. According to her Obit, she did attend Pitt for both undergraduate and graduate level studies, and the family was Roman Catholic.

Update: I just looked at the yearbook from 1935, and sure enough "Louise Kelly" was listed as a Junior. I'd consider this confirmation. Sad because even as an active collegian at the Pitt chapter, I didn't know that.

Louise Kelly Bailey was indeed a Theta Phi Alpha, a member of Kappa chapter. She was Gene's sister. She married Bill Bailey in 1949. Sadly, Louise entered the Eternal Chapter on February 22, 2008 at the age of 93.

.

Is she a current/former Theta Phi President?

Anyway, I met a President one year when she was at West Georgia interviewing Greek orgs about designing what was to become the Greek Village.

[QUOTE=AGDLynn;2066733]Is she a current/former Theta Phi President?

Yes. Dr. MAC was our National President from 2002 to 2008.

AGDLynn 06-30-2011 06:54 PM

I really liked her! I must admit I "think" she is the only TPA I've met.

I met her at AOII's Convention last week, and she was amazing. What a credit to TPA and to sorority for a lifetime!
