Recommendations
How does this recommendation thing work? I know a woman who is an alum of a sorority, but her sorority is not at our school. Should she still send in a rec or do they have to be of the same sorority or chapter?
|
Recommendations must be from an alumna of the sorority. For example, if you know an alumna of XXX, but there is not an XXX chapter at your school, there is no need for her to write a recommendation letter for you. Most NPC groups will only accept recommendation letters or letters of reference from within their initiated membership.
A recommendation or letter of reference does not guarantee you membership nor does it guarantee any preferential treatment. Recs and letters of introduction are just a way for a chapter to "meet" you prior to recruitment. Good luck! ------------------ Fraternally, Barbara Zeta Tau Alpha Alumna If you have to go around telling everyone you're in charge you're not much of a leader. What all goes in a reference letter and how long does it have to be
|
A recommendation/reference letter for NPC sorority recruitment isn't actually a letter. It's a form filled out by a sorority alumna on your behalf.
We have a whole thread here dedicated to recommendations for sorority recruitment: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ecommendations Then there's this other one: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=53908 I suggest reading through them both, there's alot of good info about recs. |

For the record, it really wasn't THAT rude of a reply.
Especially in comparison with what I would have said if I was really TRYING to be rude. |

Where's that "New to GC?" thread when you need it? |

Top Newbie Questions GC Newbies should LOOK and NOT POST here I usually like suggesting to new posters to lurk and get a feel of the place first before posting. It'll save you from wasting your time spouting off to longtime posters who really don't care what you have to say. |

Since you said you haven't "been in college" since 2003, I'm going to assume that you actually applied and made it into a college...although maybe I shouldn't because it's obviously not showing in your posts. There is a newbie thread around here. I think the applicable point here is that "If you think someone is being snarky to you, check their previous posts - you probably aren't special." And I'd like to point out that you have no idea "what I represent on this board". OBVIOUSLY. Does someone want to clue her in? Quote:

Weird, FF has deleted ALL of her posts except the original one about recs...
:confused::confused::confused::rolleyes: |
Woops! Correction, now that first one's gone too...:p:rolleyes:

you guys seriously have nothing to do in life. If you all are such leaders....what many greeks CLAIM to be then stop monitoring every post I make or delete and go out and MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD I deleted them because I wanted to it doesn't matter if you quoted them, it obviously shows you guys care way more about what I have to say than your letting on...find a life people that is beyond hating on new ppl who come with honest questions to GC. and as for all those people who want to continue to write about me( FF )as you love to abbreviate everything in life, thanks!!! its haters like you that keep these threads alive...I mean geez I asked a question, got a rude response, and then got my question answered. GET OFF IT NOW its DONE! over!! talk about something else...why are you all being such losers? This GC place is garbage, its just another clique like it belongs in some trashy Not Another Teen Movie or something...find a hobby AlphaFrog and all of your commonplace followers ...you know whats funny all the OSU ppl who responded were actually not rude it was other ppl that don't even go to the school putting their two worthless cents in...questionable so with that I say GO BUCKS I wish I had gone to a big school like that where ppl arent walking around with sticks in their ass (like the rest of you assholes)

Now, y'all know I normally don't do this, but this PM from her was too good not to share:

Wow - just . . . Wow.

Just an aside - there seems to be a trend of people decrying GC, and telling GCers to get a life, or something along those lines. From my rather disinterested perspective, I must say that there is a certain irony in posters who write looooonnnnggggg tirades about GC including these quotes, as it would seem that the poster would 1.)just leave GC since it is so horrible and 2.) get a life of his/her own, since the long postings would indicate lack of the same. Truly, if I went to a site that I felt was useless, I would not return to it again and again. Life is too short to hang around someplace on the internet you do not enjoy.

For the record, freedomfly (sorry, I won't call you FF anymore, I thought that's what all the young folks do with the texting and whatnot these days), I was just making a plain statement of fact when I noted that the posts were deleted, I read through the thread, saw the quotes and noticed that the original posts weren't there except the first one. Then the first one disappeared. I found it curious. And honestly, I thought you were a different troublemaker before you PM'd me and made it clear you're the girl from Penn State that things went south for with the Father X discussion a week or so ago. My loyalty to Penn State doesn't necessarily have to translate to every single alumni, especially when I didn't know I was talking to someone from there to begin with (and when you're spewing online and reflecting poorly on "dear old state"). Please don't PM me anymore, I will not respond to you that way and will from here on out ignore als, freedomfly, the jolie thing, newbie thing, whatever you're logging on as now these days... say hi to Happy Valley for me. |

Does anyone else think that she's really not in a sorority?
I have never heard a Greek woman call another Greek a sorostitute. Also, she's claiming that some of you don't have degrees. [AlphaFrog, I believe, had her credentials questioned?] Clearly, she's unaware that you MUST be in college or have obtained a degree to be a member of an NPC or NPHC sorority. Hmmm.... |
Quote:
As far as being in an NPC, my sorority chapter was closed before I decided not to continue persuing Music Therapy, so I was already an alum before I left school.:) |
Quote:
In order to stay a collegian, she must be enrolled full time on campus. If she leaves school for whatever reason (graduation or not), she's still a member -- an alumna. I even recall reading in the Quarterly that our AI candidates need not possess a college degree in order to be considered for membership. If I am wrong, someone please correct me. A member is a member, college degree or not. |

Irony? |
Now I understand...I posted the last one before reading the entire thread. She's a little touchy, don't ya think?!
|
Yeah, sorry; what she actually said was that you hadn't gone to school. While not all sororities require a degree for AI, all collegiate members must have gone to school at SOME point as a degree-seeking student enrolled full time.
Better? :D |
