The Calling- Adrienne. I hightly recommend it!

DWAlphaGam 06-18-2002 10:01 AM

My #1 all-time favorite is Break Your Heart by Barenaked Ladies. The best part is "My heart will be fine/Just stop wasting my time!/I know I'm over you, and I'll be ok/Because I've got what I want/And that's rid of you, goodbye". I just love the way that Steven Page sings that! He really gets into it and gets all emotional. *sigh* Ok, I'll stop gushing now.

"You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrisette is my other favorite...I watched her Behind the Music last night and was reminded again what a freakin' awesome album Jagged Little Pill is.

Different View

I guess my breakup songs are not about letting go, but remembering the beauty of the relationship, the passion, the lust. So, I use both "traditional" and "non-traditional" songs to heal. Just commenting, not listing, cuz they are too personal...

cutiepatootie 06-18-2002 10:58 AM

Phill Collins- against all odds! us 80s ppl have our favorites too!:D

I have to say, though, that if I were going through a breakup, I would want to hear that Independent Women song by Destiny's Child.

UF_Pike 06-18-2002 11:43 AM

What independent women song?

WOW, is Fiona in a bad mood or what??! ;)

Actually there are 2 kinds of breakup songs:

1. The person is a jerk and you want to tell them to go screw themselves.

2. You still love the person and you want to wallow.

Best screw-you: "Someday" by Mariah Carey
Best wallow: "Anything For You" by Miami Sound Machine

TrojanGirl 06-18-2002 12:08 PM

One more...

Godsmack - Alive

"It's safe to say
You were never alive
A big part of you has died
And by the way
I hope you're satisfied!"

UGLY - Violent Femmes

I'm so tired of you be'in around
engaged in some sexual acts
we'll I'm just gonna have to tell you all the facts
what could that be about,
well here's a clue
ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh yeah
so ugly
I'm tellin' you strait
so ugly
don't make a mistake
cause your ugly
I'm tellin' you that
I say why why
why would I lie to you
why would I lie
why would I lie
your so ugly"

SigmaChiCard 06-18-2002 12:22 PM

note:

the above is a joke...but it's a funny song

KSig RC 06-18-2002 12:57 PM

Dashboard Confessional - "Ender will save us all" or "Hands Down" (note - just don't listen to these guys if you've just broken up)

Better than Ezra - "Rosalina"

the Get-Up Kids - "Michele (with one 'L')"

Blessed Union of Souls - Light In Your Eyes
Brian McKnight - One Last Cry
Boyz II Men - Doin Just Fine
4pm - Suki Yaki
Mariah Carey - Love Takes Time
Linkin Park - In The End
Brandy - Have You Ever
Dream - When I Get There
Janet Jackson - Again
Natalie Cole - Miss You Like Crazy
Go West - King of Wishful Thinking
Plumb - Lie Low
Sheryl Crowe - My Favorite Mistake

ZTAngel 06-18-2002 01:28 PM

I choose Brian McKnight's Anytime. When that song first came out, I was a junior in high school and I had just broken up with my boyfriend who was in college. I listened to that song a lot because it was exactly the way I was feeling.

Then Brian McKnight had to go ruin the song for me in this interview he did. They asked him if he had written the song to someone and he said something along the lines that he has never felt that way...he's never had a girl break his heart...he just wrote the song for the sake of writing a song. Kinda takes the emotion out of the song when you find out that the artist never really had those feelings.

SigmaChiCard 06-18-2002 01:45 PM

sukiyaki and again are two great songs, depressing, but great

okay..i know very predictable of me to reply to this but that's okay :)

i totally forgot about this song..but i've gotta say my favorite part comes right before this quote : "What'd you think that I was gonna do, Curl up and die just because of you? I'm not that weak you know.."

ps - how freakin awesome is this song live? *sigh*

APhi 06-18-2002 02:11 PM

"Don't Think Twice" Bob Dylan
- you just kinda wasted my precious time...
but don't think twice... it's alright

Also have to vote for almost all of "Dilate" by Ani DiFranco
Especially one song that goes...
"How could you take almost everything...
Then come back for the rest"
Singing along is very cathartic because she's practically screaming.

Angry breakup:
The Last Song Ill Ever Write about a Girl-The Ataris
Road to Recovery-Rufio
Sad Breakup:
Rough Draft-Yellowcard
Summer Wind was Always Our Song-The Ataris

Unregistered- 06-18-2002 04:49 PM

I can't believe I forgot about SheDaisy's "LITTLE GOODBYES"...

I'm sure you're sure I'll be back in just an hour or two
You'll tape a Hallmark to my door
They always said it better than you
And if ya wonderin' if you're gonna hear from me
Well take a real good look around boy
And it won't be hard to see

When you come home tonight
And turn on the light
Don't you be surprised to find
My little good-byes

KarenC725 07-03-2002 12:52 PM

How has no one said "What It Takes" By Aerosmith

Tell me what it takes to let you go
Tell me how the pains suppose to go
Tell me how it is that you can sleep
in the night
without thinking you lost everything that was good

DeeGeePee 07-03-2002 01:15 PM

sweetestone was right on the money with her list for real.

The NUMBER 1 song, for me, is You Oughta Know, by Alanis Morrissette. I love her and had heard the song a million times, but when I actually LISTENED to the words, I cried, cuz she wrote it just for me.

The runners up (in order)...

2. How Does it Feel, Kelly Price (its new, it goes, How does it feel, now that you know, you coulda had me, but you let me go. You're on the outside of your own world, cuz someone else married your girl. That song is DEEEEEEP!!!)

3. I wish I didn't miss you anymore, Angie Stone (this song is TOOOO true)

4. Gone, N'sync

5. You remind me, Nickelback

6. Not Gon Cry, Mary J. Blige

7. Fallin, Alicia Keys

8. Why does it hurt so bad, Whitney Houston

9. Have you ever, Brandy

10, Half Crazy, Musiq

Hootie 07-03-2002 06:37 PM
