Political Party?

I was wondering if you all could take just a few seconds to post what your political affiliation is or if you don't have one. No need to elaborate as to why you choose to vote the way you do (my aim is for no cans of worms to be opened by this thread! :) ), but I was just wondering if Greeks in general tend to gravitate toward one party or the other.

If you are not registered to vote, just say which party you would choose if you registered today.

For our Canadian brothers and sisters, I know you obviously have different political parties than Americans do but please post anyway :)

I'll start...

I am a Republican. My biological sister says I make Pat Robertson look like a liberal. This is, however, just a nasty rumor

Siobhan 06-13-2002 02:00 PM

Progressive Conservative

FYI here are Canada's main parties:

The Liberals (current party in power)
The Alliance (opposition party)
The PC (Progressive Conservative)
The BQ (Bloc Qubecois)
The NDP (The New Democratic Party)

On the poli spectrum:

the Libs are pretty much centre
The PC are a bit to the right and the Alliance are a bit further to the right)
The BQ are just a little to the left and the NDP are a further on the left)

When comparing Canadian and US political parties are RW parties still tend to be more left than US LW parties.

Siobhan,
The NDP is the New Democrat Party, not the National Democrat Party.
Interesting note: the NDP was founded by Tommy Douglas, who is Kiefer Sutherland's grandfather....

dzrose93 06-13-2002 03:57 PM

I'm a Republican... :)

AlphaChiGirl 06-13-2002 05:07 PM

FuzzieAlum 06-13-2002 07:55 PM

democrat ...

Just curious, aside from one Green, all the Americans on here have either been Dems or GOPs. Is there anyone who is a socialist, a libertarian, reform, etc.?

Kevin 06-13-2002 08:01 PM

I'm a card carrying registered Republican.

I lean more towards Libertarian though. Isn't that called Jeffersonian Republican?

xok85xo 06-13-2002 08:22 PM

democrat

Jeff OTMG 06-13-2002 10:55 PM

I am registered Republican, but lean libertarian. I like Alan Keyes and Ron Paul.

phikappapsiman 06-13-2002 11:18 PM

I am a registered Republican, but I usually vote Democratic in the general elections. In California, the Republican primaries are always SO MUCH MORE FUN than the Democratic primaries-you always usually have a very conservative Republican running against a more moderate Republican, who then runs against a moderate/ liberal Democrat in the general election! I LOVE California politics:)

DG*FSU*Jenn 06-13-2002 11:22 PM

I am a Democrat, but I will admit that Jeb Bush's son is a li'l cutiepie!

hannah6782 06-13-2002 11:25 PM

recent switch from republican to democrat, i just couldnt take it any longer:)

SapphireSphinx9 06-13-2002 11:40 PM

DEMOCRAT!!! (I'm from California... What did you expect??)

I am a proud Democrat... Volunteered at a State Senator's office, and helped campaign during the 2000 elections! I registered to vote the day I turned 18. Couldn't wait to voice my opinion! :D

Rudey 06-13-2002 11:54 PM
