Vertically Challenged
 

I guess you'd call me 'average'. I'm 5'7" but it sometimes feels like a lot less.

I work on the school's news program and sometimes get to anchor.

They had me sit on 2 telephone books today so I'd look about as tall as the other anchor.

I felt like I was about to slide out of my chair.

Anyone else have difficulty with their height?

You remind me of a very funny situation that happened over 25 years ago at a very big top 10 market TV station where I was a director.

The anchors of the 11:00 PM News really didn't like each other. Their names shall forever remain a secret.

One night, the woman anchor brought in a seat cushion so she could look as tall as the man. The next night, he brought one in. The next night, she brought two.

I don't think it ever went past three each, but it was absolutely one of the funniest things I've ever seen among "professionals."

hey, up until i was a sophomore in high school i was the short chubby kid...now I'm just kinda normal and really skinny...lol
I'm 5'8" and deal with the same thing. everyone is taller or bigger than me. i remember one formal i went to...my date was taller than me without her shoes on, so when we took pictures i stood up as straight as i could, raised my head up as high as possible to look taller, and she slouched so she wouldn't look as tall.

It's odd, because I really like being short for a number of completely peculiar reasons....1) Any of my big buddis would back me up because I'm smaller than most guys and I feel like the mafia leader typ guy that can be small and talk all the shit I want becuse my thuggs won't let shit happen (though I don't) and 2) because people think it's funny when they're like.."he looks like Tom Cruise....andhe's short like him too"

but I love my vertical blessing a my 5'7" stance and if a girl is taller than me, so be it...though I'm lying an my junior prom photo my date took off her shoes

I'm 5'2" and have to hem EVERY pair of pants I buy... but luckily I've found some nice comfortable high-heeled shoes and boots so that I don't look too short.

I once rented a car and got a free upgrade to "premium" class - Buick Park Avenue. This car is a *boat*. I brought the seat all the way forward and could still hardly reach the pedals... gimme my itty bitty Acura any day :D

I'm 5' 9 1/2". I hate it. I wish I was 5'11" or taller. We have a brother who is 5'5" AT most, but the cool part is that he doesnt have the little guy syndrome, 'cept for that firm ass handshake. He had the goofy haircut and really round glasses, so naturally his nickname became Millhouse. hahahha Gotta love the chapter nicknaming process.

At 5'2 I sometimes wish that I was 2-3 inches taller (hey I stilll have a chance, according to doctors now you can stop growing at the age of 25). This is mostly when like AEPhi Alum said,you shop around for pants. I hem now, but before i just use to cut and do the fringe thing. Plus some short length pants are even too long, or the shrink too much in the leg when you dry them. Other then that Im pretty happy with it.
Its kind of amsuing sometimes, because I work as a sociotherpist in a children's group home (home for kids sexually, mentally and physicaly abused etc.) and a lot of the clients (kids) and staff think that I am a client when I go to the different buildings up there.

i'm 5'5" and always wanted to be 5'10". for as long as i can remember, i've thought that tall men (6'3" +) and women (5'10" +) had a certain sex appeal to them. there is something about being short that i just don't like.

sort of off topic, but...

one of my best friends is 5'1 1/2. I am 5'9. She NEVER wears heels. I ALWAYS wear heels. We look ridiculous together.

When we were in the Caribbean a couple of years ago, we were getting ready to go out and she couldn't find anything to wear, being largely unhappy with what she'd packed.

Well, you'd think she'd be out of luck, right?

I tossed her a pair of denim capris of mine with the fabric on the bottom that was oh so hot a few years ago.

On me they are not quite mid calf length.

On my friend, they were regular full length pants.

I found it so funny, I fell off the bed laughing.

But it went the other way too--she had a skirt she considered too short for HER petite little self. So she gave it to me. I wear it all the time. ;)

I also am vertically challenged-- I am 5'3"--I am below average height--but it is very noticable when I am with my husband--who is very much above average height at 7foot tall- (yes that is SEVEN FOOT)!!!
We look like freaks together--there is a 21" height difference between us.
My husband still does not comprehend how short I am and how tall he is. We will be out somewhere and he will point to something up ahead--I will tell him I cannot see it--he keeps pointing and turning my head in the right direction--after having him squat to my level he realizes I never see anything beyond people's backs.

Ok yeah so I wish I was taller than 5'7''. But this means nothing to me. I can wish for money. I can wish for happiness. I can wish for a big house with a wonderful family and a nice Porsche in the garage. Well I can get all that. However, I cannot change my height unless I were to fly to Russia to have surgery very similar to the one done in the movie "Gattica". And that is not what I want. So for now I will remember that I am a package. And overall, I think I'm very lucky to be the package that I am.

I'm not sure what it is about tall men and tiny women, but I've known at least two guys who were 6'4" and married women who were 4'9".

What was very cool, though, was when I asked one of the women why she married such a big guy and she, without blinking an eye, said, "We're both the same height in bed!"

I love it.

I'm 5'9" and my sister is 5'2". Somehow she has had a series of 6' + boyfriends. It's so unfair. I need the tall ones because the short guys never want me. When they ask me to dance and I stand up, these guys look frightened. :p

Well for you guys who think you're so short, take heart. I can't stand it if a guy looms over me. Mr. Soul is only 5' 10 1/2 or maybe 5' 11 and that's just fine for me. He's a big guy, so he dwarfs me anyway, but I'm 5'8 so it is a nice height. As long as a guy wasn't obviously shorter (like over an inch shorter) than me I was fine with it. There are a lot of things WAY more important than how tall a guy is!!!!!!

I'm 5'4" and I'm happy with my height. I almost always wear shoes with at least a 2" heel. My ex-boyfriend was the same height as me but when I put shoes on I was taller than him. Neither of us minded. It was kind of nice to NOT have to crank my head and neck back to kiss him.

Plus, I think short guys are cute :)

i never realized how much taller i am than my girlfriend until i looked at our graduation pictures from last month. i'm about a head taller than her, and i think i'm about 6'3". i'd say she's about 5'5" or so.

AT 6 10 or is it 5 8 hell cant remember which!?

SHORT GUYS ARE THE BEST!!

KappaStarboy/SigEpRaider is 5'4". Yes you read that right. He comes from a very long line of very short people. Most of the time, I'm taller than he is if I have shoes on (I'm also 5'4"). I've dated more than one guy over the height of 6 feet, but I still think I'd take KStarboy any day. It's great dating a short guy because when you hug them, you don't smash your face into his sternum and sometimes you can even rest your head on his shoulder. Also, I don't have to strain my neck to kiss him. It was strange when we were first dating and I felt like I should wear flats, but he's never minded.

I personally like the short, petite ladies. Their the best in my book.

Dont get me wrong, i have friends that like the big girls at 4:00am ( everyone needs a little lovin). Its just their not my type.

I have to agree that there is something about short guys that pretty cute. Maybe its because all the ones that AI have known have been pretty hot :D

Hey my dad is like 4'11/ 5'0. Most people give me an odd look when i say that cuz my mom is 5'6.

i'm 5'4" but when i wanna feel tall all i have to do is stand next to my 4'8"1/2 mom :D

At 5'4" I never used to feel short...until I got to college and I hung out all the time with sisters who were noticeably taller than me. I wear three-inch heels almost every time we go out, which isn't that bad. Dresses up every outfit!

I'm about 5'2 1/2" and I am almost always in heels. My boyfriend is about 5'8". Last weekend I was wearing flip-flops instead of heeled shoes when we saw each other and it took me awhile to figure out why he looked so much taller than usual. :p I wouldn't want to be really tall, but I think being about 2 or 3 inches taller would be nice.

I'm right there with you. I'm 5'4" and my mom is 4'11". :) It's so funny because when I go to see her I'll leave my shoes on and walk up to her and say "mom, are you getting shorter?" I always get a "kiss my ass" look :)

Ok so I can relate to the short issue......my mom is like 5'1" 1/2, my dad is barely pushing 5'9", and so me standing at a glorious 5'4", i actually feel tall, compared to my mommy! But then my brother, he somehow became 6'2" and "gorgeous".....I guess I will forever be labeled as "cute" just b/c I am the height of a 12 year old, oh well, I don't mind.....weird thing is, every guy I've ever dated has been at LEAST 6' or over, I don't like short guys for some reason? Oh well! :D

I too am little, at about 5'2 (actually just a bit below, but I like saying 5'2 :) ) Ne way I feel EVERYONE on the whole pants issue !! I went to try and buy some capri pants the other day... and they fit right... go figure... most of the time I'm hemming even the short or as gap calls them "ankle" length... although I've discovered that most of the time the short length pants at express actually dont' need to be hemmed. You know when it comes to guys it doesn't really matter to me, but being sooo short sometimes those 6 foot and over guys are a little hard to work out the logistics of the whole hugging/kissing thing ;)

i'm 5'3..i like being short tho, because i have a thing for tall guys..it leaves me more of a selection..however..its kind of funny b/c my boy is short..he claims hes 5'8..5'6 on a "short day" meaning he's 5'6...so i'm taller then him if i wear big shoes..its okay tho :)

one more story...

one night when i was playing drunken basketball at the house some theta keep refering to me as "little one." i was like what? and all she would say is "nice shot little one."

I don't think it's as big a deal for women. Their only complaint is that clothes are hard to find...

Men on the other hand... for some reason you can be butt ugly and 6'4" and women will fawn over you...

Try the same thing at 5'5" and you're SOL.

I'd date a short guy over a tall guy anyday. Neck strain really sucks.

I'm 5'1" and 3/4 and my hubby is 6'2", and let me tell you that it was NOT amusing to me when I had to stand on boxes or yellow pages for some of our wedding pictures! :p The sad thing is that I'm the tallest woman in my family!

But I figure that our children at least have a fighting chance of being somewhat normal-sized. :)

I am a short girl who likes tall guys. 6'4" is in fact about perfect in my eyes. Do I have a clue as to why? Nope. That's just how it is.

That said, it really isn't that important. I LIKE tall, but if I meet a guy who has everything mentally right then who cares how tall he is! What's important is that he's cool peoples. I have known a number of short men who were really great people and that, more than their height, made them really sexy to me!

SOMEBODY here is 15 years old, 5'7", and bored with nothing better to do than act like a pig. Dude, here's a quarter, go buy yourself a life. I don't know who you are, but no real Pike would act like that when others can read his posts and associate such a reputation with the fraternity. Go find somewhere else to be a jerk.

'kay...getting back on topic and ignoring the childish antics...
i am 5'3 1/2" (yes that last 1/2 inch counts!) and i LOVE tall guys...my bf is 6'2" and i love it. lots of you girls are complainign about strained necks but what about being able to lay your head on their chest while hugging and hear their heart beating just for you...can't do that when you see eye-to-eye!!!

I'm a small guy, like 5'7" but I love being short and hve never desired being more tall. I cannot lie that I like small, petite girls but because I like girls smaller than me as most guys do...my girlfriend is probably about 5'3" or so and 106lbs...so she's a small girl...

anway I never minded being small cause I could always compete...I have always been center-mid on soccer teams and despite my vertical challenge I've always had good leaping ability and could win balls right and left from taller opponents, always win advantages by gettingknocked around, and yet can maneuver around them as I have better balance (lower to the ground!)...not to mention at concerts I can push my way through anywhere because I'm small and cn slip through easily

Being tall is the stereotypical cool way of doing thigs...and who wants that? HaHa..like I chose to b short....but I'm glad I am!
