condoms

I mean really how many different kinds of condoms are there? Like it has its own aisle now. I mean for real? I know that they are important but do people really need all those different kinds? And do different kinds REALLY do anything different? I just thought of this after reading a thread that brought up condoms. (So don't think I'm too weird!):D

KappaStargirl 06-09-2002 05:56 PM

I just had to say...

I am endlessly amused by drugstores and grocery stores that label their aisles and put "family planning" on the aisle with the condoms. Obviously if you are buying condoms you are NOT planning to have a family anytime soon!

I know what they really mean, but it still makes me laugh.

RubberSoul 06-09-2002 06:05 PM

I think the term "family planning" is kind of funny too for birth control, but in a way I guess it sort of makes sense.....like for me as in I am planning not to let my family get any larger!!!!! Ha ha!

Kevlar281 06-09-2002 06:22 PM

The Krogers near my house keeps all condoms under lock and key in a glass case along with all the Mach 3 razor blades. I always think its kind of ironic how there stored right along with sharp metal objects.

TLAW 06-09-2002 06:33 PM

"Rubbersoul"? Appropriate thread, right? I am sorry... I just couldn't resist.... LOL

SapphireSphinx9 06-09-2002 07:43 PM

Kevlar, why would they keep them locked up? I mean if people really wanna steal condoms, let them... That way at least we know that they're being safe.
I donno about your schools, but my school gives away condoms. You can either pick them up at the Health Center, or during Health Week, they pass them out, along with lubrication. (Just thought I should share that)

Dionysus 06-09-2002 08:13 PM

Has anyone ever seen candoms? It's soda insulators that look like condoms.:D

ZTAMichelle 06-09-2002 10:18 PM

Something I find interesting is that the bookstore at my school, which also sells various hygenie products etc, doesn't sell condoms! They also stopped selling magazines this year too!

SilverTurtle 06-09-2002 10:48 PM

Our health center gave them away, too. I went there my freshman year for bronchitis and left with a paper bag stuffed with condoms because they insisted I take them!

The campus chapter of NOW also made these cute Valentine's Day cards every year and sold them in the student center for a week or so before Valentine's Day. When you opened them up they had (various colored) condoms in them. It was a clever idea & they always sold pretty well!

Oh, and a tip from a friend of mine.. those condoms that look like gold coins (is that what they're called... "Gold Coin"?) break easily, so stay away from them. I've never tested that statement, just passing it along for your benefit. :)

Jesuit Schools Strike Again

Georgetown didn't allow the sale of condoms on campus. . .something about Catholic identity. But people who were in H*yas for Choice gave them away. They were a non-university affiliated pro-choice organization.

AOX81 06-10-2002 10:00 AM

My husband and I were getting a prescription filled and all the condoms are located in front of the pharmacy counter. We were picking them all up and reading the packages out loud...I think we made some of the customers uncomfortable and the people working in the pharmacy just gave us dirty looks. We thought it was funny that there were SO many different kinds.

The funniest thing is when my husband said, "If I turned the ribbed condoms inside out would that be selfish?"

That's the funniest thing I've ever heard! One nite me and 2 of my friends bought some flavored colored condoms. We were gona do something not-so-nice with them, and before we completed that we had to taste them... they were actually good!

SigmaChiCard 06-10-2002 11:29 AM

i miss the irony of them being locked away near metal objects

Senusret I 06-10-2002 12:14 PM

On a dare, i tasted the Coke flavored condom.

Gross.

I think it lay in the "Sharp objects (razors) next to condoms" portion of the thing

TrojanGirl 06-10-2002 02:13 PM

One of my friend's moms got her a GROSS of condoms for her 21 birthday... all kinds and colors! It was a riot!

My local drug store places the condoms right next to the diapers...

There was a TV show I saw once (might have been an old episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) where the high school nurse's office is giving students sheets of birth control information along with condoms. The only problem was that they were stapling the condom packages to the info sheets.......

carnation 06-10-2002 03:23 PM

Our druggist down the road said that ever since condoms started to come in large size about 10 years ago, no guy has bought anything else.

Gold Coin condoms break? That explains our seventh kid.

black condoms:

Ugliest. Things. EVER.

Jeff OTMG 06-11-2002 01:04 AM

Carnation, I can understand why. Magnums are MUCH more comfortable than the other brands for a latex condom. The others are like trying to stuff a hot dog in a straw. Natura Lamb are even more comfortable, the best in my opinion and worth the extra cost. Down side is that they prevent pregnancy, not disease.

carnation 06-11-2002 08:01 AM

I'll tell the druggist, Jeff! She thinks that the men are too embarrassed to buy regular size from her, preferring to proudly toss a box of supers on the counter!

Kevin 06-11-2002 09:12 AM

Wow... I wish my school gave them away for free... I did however find a great deal online. For like $15-$20 or something like that I was able to procure a 50 pack of name brand condums... I won't post the website here but if you want it you can PM me.

Also... I hate the damned things but they are better than the alternative...

TLAW 06-11-2002 09:26 AM

Magnums are nothing but ego strokers.

Jeff OTMG 06-11-2002 07:47 PM

Here is an example of why Magnums are more comfortable, try it yourself. Take a golfball (about the same diameter), now stick it in a Magnum or NaturaLamb, then try it in a regular Trojan.

PhiSigCoco 06-12-2002 01:20 AM

Great site that belongs in here.

check out the condom wizard :p

I heard the new Trojan Supra's are a new interesting addition to the condom family. Polyurethane instead of latex, haven't tried them but it's good to know their are always choices!

Rudey 06-12-2002 02:15 AM

no

Supra's came out a while back and I couldn't tell the difference...i swear there is absolutely no difference. Also, does anyone else think that ribbed ones actually make a difference? I don't think it does, but maybe i just haven't tried it enough or something. On trojan's website you can ask for free samples, so go try something new. I personally think the only condoms that are really different are the Trojan extended pleasure. They really did work but at the expense of the guy...seriously it's made for the girl's pleasure. As for magnums and lamb skin, I've never tried those and have no idea how they feel. I had bad experiences with durex. One time the spermicide was way too much and another time the jimmy hat broke. Blah!

UDZETA 06-12-2002 03:35 PM

Wow does Magnum or NaturaLamb make a difference? I have never heard of Magnum before can some one fill me in? ( no pun intended)

James 06-12-2002 03:55 PM

That is not completely true. Regular condoms don't fully cover. Magnums mostly do. So they are safer.

When I was in college, I went to the off campus apartment of a few guys that I knew. They had a fishbowl full of condoms so they could be prepared for the debauchery of off campus life where everyone had a single room. Anyway, I saw the fishbowl, and they said they wanted to be prepared. By the end of the year the bowl was still as full as it had been at the beginning of the year. They were very responsible young men just very unlucky with women. :p Poor guys!

swissmiss04 06-12-2002 09:36 PM

I suddenly developed a latex allergy my freshman year (and I won't tell you how I figured it out:rolleyes: ) so I decided to try the Supras. They don't feel like you're even wearing anything, so I've been told, and personally (and I do mean personally) I thought they felt better. They are a might wee bit more expensive, but I've never ever had one to break.

James 06-12-2002 09:58 PM

I too have a latex allergy, and I too will spare you the accompanying story with its trip to the emergency room, swollen body parts, and painful cutting . . .

I never tried the Supras, but have used Avanti's by Durex I think . . they are a polyurethane condom also.

So you recomend the Supras?

my $0.02

ok, so here's my take on condoms...

yes, there IS a difference between wearing them and not, BUT (!!!), what's more valuable, safety, or unnecessary risk?

no, there ISN'T a difference between different types of condoms. They're all the same damn thing (for both people involved) --- EXCEPT! ONLY use a brand you trust!

That's pretty much it.
