For the gamblers out there: I like what SteelTrap and Dexter did with the B-ball playoffs...I am taking Tyson. Anyone care to cyber-wager???

lil_sunshine 06-05-2002 03:01 PM

My boo LENNOX LEWIS!!!!! I'm willing to bet you $20 cyber bucks for it!!! :D :D :D

Bamboozled 06-05-2002 03:07 PM

Man, betting against Tyson is like betting against Suge Knight. Y'all can't make me say nothing bad about Tyson up in here. So, he gets my vote.

Steeltrap 06-05-2002 03:36 PM

Humm. My logical side says to bet on Lennox, but I also want to see how Mike behaves. I still CTFU on Mike threatening to eat Lennox' "chirrens."

Bamboozled I know how you feel. I was walking in NYC a few months back and saw Mike chilling outside Club Negril. The man had nary a bodyguard and I didn't even want to look at him, lol. I would not wish to have an ear munched on, or any other limb for that matter!

LOL @ SteelTrap's smiley!

Well, I'm no boxing expert (I really don't see the big deal about this sport), but I've talked with my husband and he says that Mike will PROBABLY win, but he's not 100% confident about it.

From what I've read and seen about Mike, I believe that he'll probably do something CRAZY and the fight will go to Lennox. I don't know. He's got so much ANGER and HATE. Fighting him is going to be like fighting a pitbull or some other dangerous dog. It's going to be like fighting a person with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or multiple personality disorder who is NOT on medication. Any mental health professional will tell you that these people have like unmeasurable strength and it will take something like a BAT or TRANQUILZER or GUN to bring them down. I just hope that Mike fights fare (but I REALLY don't think that he will).

About a month ago, I read in one of many articles about Mike that he got rid of the trainer that has been with him for a long time. Now this trainer is saying that Mike is steadily going down because he's not commiting himself to a disciplined routine, training, and workout. He said that he was not surprised when he got the call (from someone OTHER than Mike himself) saying that Mike no longer needed his services. He also said that he feels that many of the guys that are hanging around Mike encourage and instigate verbal and physical confrontations.

If I were Lennox, I wouldn't fight him. MIKE TYSON IS REALLY CRAZY!!!! He's not using the same tactics that Mohammad Ali used. HE'S REALLY CRAZY!!!! And sooner or later, if someone doesn't address his behavior, he's going to kill someone. Or maybe it's just a matter of time before he tries to pull some of that stuff on the wrong person and they are going to kill HIM.

Steeltrap that is what I'm saying. My logical side is saying Lennox, and that is who I predicted in the Phi Beta Sigma forum. Now after seeing that E True Hollywood Story on that fool and Ms. Givens.....the interview at the end is what got me. First he wanted to eat Lennox's kids, now from the interview the fool wants to make people feel his pain by stepping on your testicles for those that have them...I tell you there is something really wrong with that man. He never needs to be off his medication.

Afrochic 06-09-2002 12:04 AM

RUMBLE ON THE RIVER!

LENNOX LEWIS WINS. TYSON KNOCKED OUT 2:25 IN THE 8TH ROUND. YESSSSSSSSS:D

librasoul22 06-09-2002 12:33 AM

*plops down a twenty spot* Dag, now what am I supposed to do about rent?

For real, Mike got sonned. Plain and simple. Lennox just toyed with him with those right jabs. Dang.

skeeliteful 06-09-2002 10:25 AM

I wasn't really going for anybody cause boxing isn't my thing. BUT...I think Mike did all that trash talking before the fight to pump people up. I think they gave him a double dose of ritalin or paxil because he was just a little too calm during this fight. It was a good fight though.

AKA2D '91 06-09-2002 06:00 PM

OMG!

:o

Dayum, Mike got knocked the (bleep) out!

His face is all puffy and stuh! :o

Steeltrap 06-09-2002 06:07 PM

Mellow Mikey

And did you catch his interview after the fight on ESPN? I was disappointed, no foaming at the mouth, no cussing.

He was holding his infant son, but did offer this classic malaprop: "I may fade into bolivion." I think he meant oblivion.

All that money wasted -- he surely could have become educated or at least taken elocution lessions, if he cared.:p

TLAW 06-09-2002 06:37 PM

I wish we could say that it was the beatdown that caused him to say that... but we can't. Who else thought that Tyson's shameless brown-nosing for a new fight (= more money) was disgraceful?

aprilzeta 06-09-2002 11:53 PM

I was going for Lennox Lewis also. I couldn't believe what Mike said after the fight. Something to the effect, that he thank Lennox for the payday. I was like wtf? Plus, Mike kept on rambling in the interview(Lennox really worked that head), not making any sense. I was like, will somebody please make him be quiet.

lovele1978 06-10-2002 08:29 AM

rematch??

Who really wants to see this?? I personally think that Mike Tyson needs to hang it up. The only reason why he even asked for a rematch is because he is looking for another "PAYDAY"!!! Damn, are times that hard Mike!!!

I never doubted that my baby Lennox would whoop his a$$!!
I just think that the fight would have been more interesting if Mike was not on his meds.

korkscru 06-10-2002 09:29 AM

It WAS a good fight. Lennox Lewis held it down quite nicely, if I must say so myself. Mike got his butt whoooped. My friend said that she thinks that the fight was staged because Mike never...get this, "popped his neck". WTF???? I told her that if the fight HAD been staged, why in the world was Mike letting Lennox beat his face up like that? I mean, I would haveto have an understanding with the person that I was fighting. And that understanding would be to give a COUPLE of body shots, but NONE to the face. Heck, Mike had cuts on his eye and a bloody nose. Now does that SOUND like the fight was staged? I DON'T THINK SO!!! I COULD BE WRONG, but I REALLY don't think so. This fight just proved that Mike's ex-trainer was right. I agree that Mike must have had a double dose of his medication because he WAS too calm.

TLAW 06-10-2002 09:41 AM

I wish I could say it was staged, but nah, it wasn't. I do believe both fighters had a good idea of the outcome. Tyson didn't have a chance, and after the first round, it was just a matter of time. No, it was not staged, but I am surprised that Tyson didn't act up. It would have been so much easier for him.

Riley 06-10-2002 09:49 AM

A waste of money!

I personally do not reguarly watch boxing b/c I think it is a gruesome sport. But I paid to watch this match. It would have been better if Mike ACTUALLY FOUGHT! All Lenox was doing was sparriing. He was in a practice fight. Mike didn't block or anything. He pretty much just stood there and acted like a punching bag for Lewis.

He just went in there and did his time for the money and that was all.

Steeltrap 06-10-2002 12:25 PM

Fraud

The author of this column, a brotha, let Mike have it. The choices crack me up.

Tyson's act phony as a three-dollar bill

By JASON WHITLOCK
Columnist

Had Mike Tyson won his overhyped showdown with Lennox Lewis on Saturday night, what do you think he would've held during his post-fight interview?

A. His young child as he thanked Lewis for giving him the undeserved opportunity.

B. His crotch as he dropped F-bombs on the media members he thought disrespected him before the fight.

Besides being a washed-up bum, a convicted rapist, an ignoramus, an ungrateful, disloyal traitor and a coward hiding in bully's clothing, Mike Tyson is a drama queen.
That's the lesson we should've learned from the Lewis-Tyson prefight hype, in-ring (tail)-whipping and postfight child-holding Mr. Nice Guy routine. Tyson could easily fill in for Susan Lucci as Erica Kane on ABC's "All My Children." Tyson will go to any length to stir up trouble and keep himself at the center of attention.

No one should be amazed that Tyson conducted himself like a gentleman following Lewis' eight-round masterpiece. Lewis beat the fool out of Tyson. And Tyson was simply doing what he had to do to remain a remote candidate for a future big-money fight. His ghetto caveman act had turned off nearly everyone. So Tyson, in true Erica Kane fashion, flipped to a different personality. He turned into a humble family man who has a great deal of respect for Lewis and Lewis' family.

I'm calling bull manure on that.

Had Tyson won, had Tyson landed one meaningful punch, had Tyson's nose, eyes and mouth not been pulverized into mush, he would've called Lewis every four-letter word in his immense jailhouse vocabulary. Instead, having been properly embarrassed, Tyson tried to take the high road. He needed a map, a compass and a team of bloodhounds to find it, but Tyson acted like a sane human being, which caused some longtime boxing scribes to praise Tyson for taking his beating "like a man."

Excuse me. There was no other way for Tyson to accept the beating Lewis handed out. Had Tyson erupted and done something illegal, he probably would've earned a lifetime ban from boxing in the States. And we all know Tyson wants to keep fighting. He begged Lewis for a rematch immediately after the fight.

Tyson will continue to be boxing's greatest con man (yes, a better con artist than Don King) as long as a foolish public keeps buying his feel-sorry-for-me act. That's his most effective con. Pity is Tyson's currency. Tyson's fan base is made up mostly of people who feel he's a victim of Don King's manipulation, a racist Indiana jury, Robin Givens' gold-digging and/or an impoverished, parentless childhood. His fans feel like there's something noble about rooting for an "underdog."

It's been 15 years since Tyson was an underdog. It's been two decades since Tyson was an impoverished, directionless child. God blessed Tyson with a surrogate family and a career that made him rich and powerful. Tyson, at the behest of Givens, ignorantly deserted the very people -- his original management and training staff, Bill Cayton, Jim Jacobs and Kevin Rooney -- who helped orchestrate Tyson's rags-to-riches story.

Tyson loves to brag about being from "the streets." He doesn't even follow the rules of "the streets." Tyson isn't loyal. And he chose a gold-digging groupie over money.

Why Captain Tyson enjoys hero status among youthful tough guys is beyond my ability to comprehend. Tyson is a phony, as big a phony as the sports world has ever seen.

As for it being staged... I don't think boxing is unlike pro wrestling. Not that it is CHOREOGRAPHED, per se, but I do think most of the outcomes are pre-determined.

korkscru, Mike is crazy! Moreso, he is greedy! Keeping these two in mind, I am sure he didn't care where Lennox was punching as long as he was getting PAID! lol!

As far as Mike not acting up, it is a little known fact that there was a clause in the contract that stated the if Tyson acted up in such a way that it would be the determining factor in the outcome of the fight (i.e. ear biting, or any other zany antics to get the fight thrown out if he was losing), Mike would have to cough up THREE MILLION dollars from his own purse.

lil_sunshine 06-15-2002 07:12 PM

I'm soooo happy!!!!!!

Well librasoul22, not only is Mr. Tyson greedy, but he needs the money to support himself and all of his kids. I'm not sure how many he has, but I think it's like 5 or 6. Trust me when I say that man NEEDS THE MONEY!!!!!! Oh, and thanks for the 20 spot..... :D :p
