I wanted to post this to remind everyone that this is premiering tonight!
PREMIERES SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 9PM/8C on FOX

Who's going to tune in to enjoy the CHEESE?!
I know I AM! :D
-----------------
Okay, what did you all think!?
I like Sissie and Brent as a couple...they seem sincere.
Rebekah is too "hey everybody, look at me!".
I felt badly for Cecile, getting left behind.
And the whole "dowry" concept is kind of yucky...a dowry? Give me a break!

Okay, I am embarassed to admit that I actually enjoyed this reality show. I think Rebekah is WAY too into herself and annoying. Can you say shallow? I felt really bad for Cecile and also liked Sissie and Brent as a couple.

I think the whole dowry concept is just the way they came up with to reward the players, but thought I might gag when they kept going for Rebekah!

Can't wait to see the drama.

I am such a sucker for reality shows! I'm so mad b/c I forgot to put a tape in my VCR...thus, when I came home tonight, my VCR's timer was blinking and there was no tape for me to watch of the Bachelorettes in Alaska! :(

Can anyone give me a quick recap? Thanks so much :D.

LeslieAGD 06-03-2002 11:20 AM

I can't believe I missed it...recap please!

Ginger 06-03-2002 12:19 PM

Yeah, even though it's not her fault entirely (she was hitting on all the guys, but hey, that's the game, right?) I think her bridges are burned with all the other girls. Did you see the way they were looking at her when the guys were making their pleas? Ooh, nastiness.

I actually thought about trying out for this show, but now I'm glad I didn't! Alaska? Eek. Wisconsin winters are bad enough for me!

CutiePie2000 06-03-2002 03:36 PM

A recap will be forthcoming this evening!!

I'm at work right now, But I should be home at 5 pm Pacific time, so I will post a recap then? HANG IN THERE!

Thanks Cutiepie! :D

CutiePie2000 06-03-2002 08:30 PM

They updated the website, so that saved me the trouble...here goes! :D
--------------------
Looking for Love: Bachelorettes in Alaska
Episode 101

DAY 1: The women arrive

Five single women travel to Alaska looking for the love of their lives and hopefully a husband. The women are: Andrea, 34 - Advertising Coordinator; Cecile, 26 - Sales Analyst; Karen, 36 - Business Development Manager; Rebekah, 27 - Real Estate BrokerSidebar: annoying person who is all "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!" ; Sissie, 31 - Interior Designer.

When they arrive to the majestic landscape that is Alaska, the game immediately gets under way. The main goal of the game: to leave with a husband in their arms.
The women move into their accommodations at The Northern Light, a resort cabin hundreds of miles from anything.

DAY 2: The women travel to meet the men

As the women fly over the picturesque Matanuska Glacier, they see the scores of men waiting and are instructed to pick a single man on first impressions only. When they land, the women take their time, looking over the men one by one, deciding who to pick for their first week.

The women "stake their claim." Karen picks Kurt, 29 - Roadie; Cecile picks Tim, 24 - Fisherman; Rebekah picks Jim, 27 - Server/Chef; Andrea picks Kristian, 29 - Wilderness Guide; Sissie picks Brent, 31 - Freight Construction Manager.Sidebar: these 2 seem quite well matched, when you watch their interactions.

The men are labeled, "The Men on Ice," and have one week in which to find if they are compatible or not with the ladies. They all fly back to The Northern Light Lodge to get to know one another and initial reactions are favorable. Kristian and Andrea seem to make a connection, as does Sissie and Brent.

DAY 3: Group date with the "Men on Ice"

The group travels on a cruise line to the Aialik Glacier. The group continues mingling and Sissie and Brent are clearly beginning to form a true bond as they go off by themselves to get to know each other even more. Sidebar:I agree...he has 2 children, a 4 yr. old and a 2 yr. old, and when he asked her if it would be a problem, she said that it would not.

DAY 4: Ax Toss Competition

The first change to the game officially begins. The Men on Ice's positions are threatened when four new men are brought into the game to challenge for the women's hearts.

The four men compete by throwing an ax at a target. The challenger who gets closest to the center gets to pick which girl he'd like to date, while also giving the girl an additional $2,000 for her dowry (see site rules)

The four men: Thaddeus, 28 - Commercial Diver Sidebar: cute'ish, reminded me of Nick from the Backstreet Boys ; Jack, 34 - Office Environment Consultant (bodybuilder dude) ; Troy, 37 - Mechanic; Matt, 38 - Retail Manager.

Troy wins the contest and picks Rebekah for his date. Rebekah gets $5,000 for her dowry, plus $2,000 for being picked first. The other women then disperse and pick between the other men. Andrea ends up with Thaddeus, Sissie ends up with Jack and Matt ends up with Karen. Cecile is left out and has to go back to The Northern Light without a new man to date.

Cecile was clearly upset about not getting picked for a date - but Rebekah reminds her, "that it's just a game."

The women all go on their dates. Rebekah and Troy go panning for gold and seem to have a nice time together. Jack and Sissie go bike riding, but when Sissie falls and hits her head, it casts a pall on the entire day. Thaddeus and Andrea go hiking and snow shoeing and Andrea comments on how comfortable she felt. Matt and Karen meanwhile, go to a spa, but Karen comments on how getting naked on the first date left her feeling very uncomfortable and consequently did not have a good time (they were in towels and stuff, and this made her feel out of her "comfort" zone) .

NIGHT 4: The dates return to the lodge and The Men on Ice are back in play

When the dates return and sit down to dinner, The Men on Ice enter the lodge with flowers in hand for their respective women. The Men on Ice felt that it was their place to fight for their place, and as a result, cast the first blow.

After dinner, the group mingles some more, getting to know one another. Rebekah decides to make a point of meeting and making friends with all the men, not just her dates. The other women look on with mild jealousy as Rebekah clearly flirts with all the men.

Later that night, Andrea and Kristian steal off together, as do Brent and Sissie. They each share their first kiss back at the cabins of each of the women.

DAY 5: Proposal Point

Proposal Point is the location where the challenging men decide on which woman they would like to plea, in order to win a chance to stay in the game and knock the current Men on Ice out of the game.

At the point, Thaddeus is first to plea. Surprisingly, he pleas Sissie, taking her dowry to $7,000. Sissie declines the plea however, as she's clearly taken with Brent.

Rebekah is next and to everyone's surprise is plead by Troy, Matt and Jack. Along with Jim, Rebekah has to choose between four men. Of course she's not too upset, considering her dowry has inflated to $13,000. She ends up choosing Jack as her new man on ice.

The other women, forced to wait for the proceedings to end, walk off with their Men on Ice and approach the next day with a new vigor and a better idea of how the game truly works.

Thanks for the update CutiePie...can you (or anyone else who saw the show) explain the dowry.

newbie 06-03-2002 08:43 PM

Thanks so much CutiePie! :D

I think I did myself a disservice by missing the first ep...I'm so lost! (The dowry, for example.)

I'll be sure to catch the next one!

Thanks again! :D

CutiePie2000 06-03-2002 08:59 PM

The dowry is money that women can "bank", and I BELIEVE if they get married at the end of the show, that is their money to keep....(not sure though..will rewatch my tape and post what they say....) How a woman accumulates money is like so.....

In the first episode, the 5 women went on First Dates with their 5 men. Then 4 challengers showed up. Troy was the winner of the axe toss, so he got to "pick" who he would like to go on a date with, and he chose Rebekah. Because she was picked first, she got some money.

I think it worked like this...
A woman starts out with $5000.00
If she was the one picked by a "Challenger Man" who won a competition, she got $2000.

After the dates, when they were all at Proposal Point, the 4 Challenger Men had a chance to give their one plea to a woman that they liked, & each plea that a woman received was worth $2000 for the dowry.
Rebekah got $5000 from the beginning, plus $2000 because Troy picked her from the ax competition. Then, she got 3 more pleas (one from Troy, Jack and Matt = $6000 total).
So right now, Rebekah has $13,000 in her dowry.

If you go to the website, you can see the Dating Chart of the contestants and their "dowries". Sissie got one plea, so she is in "2nd place", dowry wise, with $7,000.00

------------------------
A few minutes later...
Okay, I just re-watched the dowry part and the Host said "that's money in the bank on the day you get married". So I presume that if don't get married you don't get to keep the money???

Oh, and for winning the axe competition, Troy won $2,000 as well.

navane 06-03-2002 08:59 PM

They didn't really explain it well on the show; but this is how I understand the dowry to work:

All of the ladies start out with $5,000. At various points in the contest, the ladies win/earn additional money for accomplishing things like getting picked first for a date ($2,000), having the challenging men pick you to make their plea ($2,000/ea)...etc. At the end of the game/show, if you get married, you win the money you've accumulated.

At least, that's my take on how it works. :)

I am so sad b/c I missed the show last night. I was watching Life as a House on DVD and forgot about the show :(

I'd love an update!

Laura

CutiePie2000 06-10-2002 08:00 PM

First of all, you all should RUN, not walk to your VCR and program it for next SUNDAY! Okay, here goes:

Episode 2 (shamelessly copied & pasted!) :D
NIGHT 4: The Northern Light

After returning to the cabin from their initial experience at Proposal Point, the new and old couples begin to settle in. Jack notes that he was surprised Rebekah chose him and Rebekah later remarks that there are two games at stake: one is for love, the other is for money.

DAY 5: Leaving for the group date

The couples have an entire group date planned, which includes dog sledding. Unfortunately, the group is forced to wait for Rebekah, who decides to take her time getting ready in the morning. Being put out, Cecile confronts Rebekah and explain how rude she felt Rebekah was being.

During the date, the couples begin warming up to one another, especially Karen and Kurt. Initially they were both closed up, but the dog sledding activity seems to break the ice better then anything previous.

That evening at the Northern Light, Tim and Cecile are still trying to figure out their relationship: where it's going, what they're doing, etc. Tim seems to be holding back and Cecile is waiting for him to make a move.

DAY 6: Fish Catching Competition

The game changes again, as four new men are brought into the mix to challenge the current Men on Ice.

The four men: Michael, 32 - High School English Teacher; Jeff, 37 - Commercial Airline Pilot; Patrick, 29 - architect; Jason, 26 - Professional Snow Boarder.

To compete, the challengers have to catch fish and throw them in a crate. The man to catch the most fish wins the right to choose one of the women. Jeff winds up winning the competition and decides to pick Cecile, giving her $2,000 for her dowry and bringing her total to $7,000.

The other women disperse and pick between the other men. Karen ends up with Michael, Patrick ends up with Andrea and Jason ends up with Rebekah. Sissie later remarks that she purposely dressed down so she wouldn't be picked, her affections clearly lay with Brent.

The women all go on their dates. Rebekah and Jason go to a day spa and have a good time getting to know one another. Michael and Karen go fishing, and although he makes Karen laugh, Karen isn't all that interested in him. Patrick and Andrea go hiking together and have a great time. Cecile and Jeff however is a different story.

Jeff decides to be bold and kiss Cecile. The next night she remarks to the other girls that she felt Jeff "mauled" her. She tells Tim as well, so as not to jeopardize anything she may have going on with him.

When they got back from their date, Tim had arranged a gift basket that was sitting and waiting for her. This is the step up Cecile was waiting for and clearly a big plus for Tim in her eyes.

NIIGHT 7: The Men on Ice are back in play

When the entire group gets back together, different elements begin to play out. At this point, it's clear that Rebekah has eyes for Jason and not Jack. Although Andrea, it seems, has eyes for everyone. It turns out that she told Kristian she wanted some space because she'd like to see if she could receive some pleas later on. Kristian reluctantly goes along with the plan but gets jealous and conveys his feelings to Andrea.

He tells her that he may not see a long term relationship in the future, but he's willing to feel it out.

Later that night, at the Jacuzzi, Rebekah somehow winds up with Michael, Jason and Jeff. She continues to play the game - perhaps in hope of getting more pleas to pad her dowry.

DAY 8: Proposal Point

The groups head to Proposal Point and get ready to decide one another's fates. Patrick is first to plea and asks Andrea to keep him, bringing her dowry to $7,000.

Jeff then decides to plea Cecile, bringing her dowry to $9,000. Michael and Jason both plea Rebekah bringing her dowry to a whopping $17,000. She's clearly milking the game for all it's worth and the other women are making comments behind her back.

In the end, Rebekah chooses Jason, Andrea stays with Kristian, Cecile stays with Tim and Sissie and Karen continue with their Men on Ice.

Thank you Cutie Pie! I am going to set my VCR tonight for Sunday nights in the future!

CutiePie2000 06-16-2002 09:20 PM

BUMP! Okay, that was me! :D
Just a friendly reminder that the CHEESE is on tonight!
Part III - woop! woop! I can hardly wait.

Sunday night on Fox.
It starts at 9 pm, Pacific time.
(not sure what time in your time zone).

Happy watching!

CutiePie2000 06-17-2002 01:12 AM

Okay, I found tonight's episode particularly painful.

First of all that "I'm gonna make this stuffed animal talk for me"...it was a bit pathetic, considering that Dan-guy was 44!
You'd think by now, the guy could talk to a woman. Or maybe not...after all, he was twice divorced already.

I thought it was classic when the Robert Downey Jr. lookalike did not want to plea for anyone. I thought it was brave and honest of it.

It was pretty harsh how Tim basically told Cecile in front of the entire group during the "Reality Check" Q&A period that he had been lying to her (when he had to answer the question 'Describe the last time that you lied to a member of the opposite')
OMG, I would have been mortified if I was her...to be humiliated in front of ALL of your peers and on national television to boot.
I would have wanted the earth to swallow me up right then and there!

bruinaphi 06-17-2002 03:05 AM

I was just happy that Rebekah didn't get chosen or a plea!

The poor guy who had the moose talk for him. THat was so sad!

navane 06-17-2002 06:18 AM

How about the guy (Terry??) who made his plea to Sissie and asked her to NOT pick him because he wanted to see her go with Brent. Awwwww. :)

I thought Terry would make a plea to Cecile :(. They seemed to get along well, IMO.

prospectiverushee 06-23-2002 10:22 PM

Just tuning in

This was my first time watching the show. Oh my! Oh my! Oh my!

My thoughts on tonight's show is bascially about Tim2. Dude, you were the transitional man. So why were you acting all confused about whether Cecile was going to stay with you. Everybody but you knew she wasn't when she talked your ear off about Tim1 and then sent you home by yourself at the end of the night. And the fact that you spent the whole eposide whining about it was just so annoying.

Rebekah-This was my first time watching this show and I hate you all ready. You remind of this girl that I work with. It not anything that you do,but whatever it is, guys just seem to flock to you.

Karen-You are such a doll. You remind me of me. Quiet, unassuming.

Andrea-Why if the relationship with old boy is not going anywhere and is totally based on sex did you keep him as your man on ice? I don't get it. He pretty much said in the Reality Check game that he didn't see the re;ationship going anywhere,so why stay with him?

Ok, I'm hooked now and will tuning in next week

CutiePie2000 06-24-2002 01:03 AM

I can't believe that Andrea kept Christian as her Man On Ice, even though he basically said that he is sleeping with her even though he doesn't see the relationship going anywhere!

Sisterplum 06-24-2002 02:08 PM

I know...I was pretty shocked that Andrea did that too! What's up with that?! Maybe she think Kristian will change his mind or something?!

Every week I get more and more annoyed at Rebekah....I hate her!!! She is not that pretty (IMO), yet for some reason all the men flock like sheep to her....why dammit why?!?!?!?!

I really like Cecile and I'm hoping that something will come out of the new relationship with Will!:)

And Sissie and Brent.....too cute! They are so meant for each other!:)

APhi 06-24-2002 02:12 PM

I'm almost embarrased to be watching this show but it's strangely intriguing... Kinda can't turn away.

Tim2: Did he kinda strike you as stalker boy? Showing up at her cabin like three times before dinner, that drinking from her shoe comment, saying to Will "So you're replacing me huh?" or something like that. Dude, chill!

Rebekah: Yeah, she's not really THAT pretty. She's just flirting her butt off with every guy that crosses her path and working it for all it's worth. She did snag that guy Jason though and he's a cutie!

Karen: I'm sorry but I don't like her. She's always seemed a little uptight, restrained, and guarded. Then she told that story about being left by her husband for a stripper and you can see how she got that way. I feel bad for her but I still think she needs to loosen up.

On the up side... Sissie and Brent are just so cute. Amazing that someone on this sort of show found a real connection but they might actually have a future.
