Seriously, I'm not an alcoholic, I just like to chill....
What is your favorite beverage(s)/ spirit(s) when you're in that  mode?
If you don't drink alcoholic beverages, you can post your favorite(s) too. :D |
Hmmm.....let's see.....
I like amoretto and whiskey sours, slow gin fizz and red devils. But I especially love Margaritas!!!!!
P.S. I am not an alcoholic, I just appreciate different types of beverages. |
amaretto sours are the BOMB
I really don't drink a lot, but the last time I did I was at BBQ's with some friends. BBQ's has these HUGE drinks that they put all these flavors in- mine was a peach mango colada. It was SO ILL. |
Absolut & Cranberry (or Grapefruit).
PS...I'm not an alcoholic. I just play one on TV :D |

A GREAT topic! I could be here for days! Um, does that make me an alcoholic? ;) :D My (short list of) drinks of choice: Long Island Iced Tea Parrot Bay and Pineapple Juice Tropico Bacardi Limon and Lemonade (HELLO!) Basically any light liquor with Sprite. |
Professional drinker here, lol
Although I don't drink much anymore (except for Last Fridays ;)), when I was in college, I used to PUT THEM AWAY!!!!! Here are my faves, in no particular order:
Parrot Bay, Pineapple juice, grenadine (librasoul, try it with the grenadine!!!!!) Screwdriver & grenadine (grenadine is just the bomb, lol) Apple Martini Midori Sour Long Island Iced Tea Electric Blue Lemonade Blue Margarita TEQUILA!!!!! Slow Gin Fizz And last, but certainly not least, Hairy Buffalo!!! I'll even give yall my recipe. Soak pineapples (fresh) and strawberries in 151 Bacardi Rum. Soak watermelon and canteloupe in Skyy Vodka. Soak overnight (about 12 hours should do it). In the morning, mix the two mixtures together, and let it sit for about 4 to six more hours. Finally, when ready to party, add Peach Schnapps, orange juice, pineapple juice, and Minute Maid Fruit Punch. You have the best drink in the world right there, and the fruit will #(^% YOU UP!!! I don't recommend using apples or grapes, the apples are too hard to soak in a lot of liquor and since grapes have skin, they pose the same problem. But pretty much any fruit to suit your fancy. Fresh fruit is the best though, canned, not so good. :D |
for me, it's beer, beer and more beer.
as a w. indian, i love red stripe and carib. when i can't get my hands on either, a heineken will do. |
Believe me I am not an alcoholic!!!
This is a great Friday topic!!
Uhmmm let me see now...... Of course Amaretto Sours are a classic Long Island Ice Teas when I want to get buzzed ;) Orange Cream-sicles with liquor (can't remember the correct name of the drink) are off the hook!! Smirnoff Ice is perfect for cook-outs .... and last weekend I discover Malibu Bay Breeze, THE BOMB!!!:p Alright now, let me get back to my twelve steps.... uhm, I mean work! |
My favorite beverages are.....
1.ice cold straight out the 'fridge Spring Water 2.Sweetned Ice Tea 3.Vernors(it's a ginger ale type pop made in Michigan) 4.Pineapple Orange Faygo(also a Michigan made pop) |
I like Amaretto Sours!:D Although, I'm really not a drinker. I 've just tasted them two or three times.:)
|

GUUUUUUUUUUUUUURL that is my whip!!! I love Faygo!! 3 LITERS baby:D |
Can I get a Long Island please? How bout that Bellvie?
|
Hmmm...Faygo
Dancerella1908,
My granddad just visited us from Detroit for Memorial Day. Did he NOT bring me six 2 liters of Faygo Cream Soda in a box!!! I love him! Here in the ATL, they just have those itty bitty glass bottles, and some 3 liter kinds. But we don't have all the flavors here. I was soooo happy. I remember he used to give me warmed Vernors when my stomach hurt...ughh! I don't really drink much, but I have taken to that new drink, Skyy Blue. I really like it. I also like Smirnoff Ice...I discovered I like vodka now :p Now my fiance is a different story...he drinks enough for two people :D |
My list of favorites I used to drink:
1. Kahlua and Cream (my absolute favorite) 2. Absolut and cranberry juice 3. Whisky sours 4. Sea-breeze 5. Heineken beer 6. Rum punch (for those of you who ever attended a West Indian party!) The difference between and alcoholic and a drunk is that an alcoholic attends weekly meetings :D :D :p |
Sweetinis
Aah, cocktail time.
Favorites: Gimlet, made w/Charbay key lime vodka or Stoli Razberi. Cosmopolitan. Can use Charbay ruby red grapefruit, Stoli Razberi, any orange or lemon vodka for this. Peachtini. Stoli Persik (rare to find) and peach brandy. Delicious Martini. Stoli Kafya (coffee, also rare to find) and Grand Marnier. A martini made w/blue curacao and vodka. |
Steeltrap, now you're my kind of drinker!!! I'm a martini and gimlet girl all the way. I'll have to try the variations you've mentioned (especially that peachtini). But here are my favorites:
Grey Goose & Tonic Vodka Gimlet w/ Grey Goose Dirty Martini w/ you guessed it .... Grey Goose Rasberry Stoli Kamikaze I'm also a wine enthusiast. I prefer white wines and my favorites are: Schmitt Sohne - Riesling (more of a desert wine) Ecco Domani - Pinot Grigio Casa Lapostolle - Chardonnay If I partake of red wine, my favorites are: Artesa Sonoma - Merlot Castello di Volpaia - Chianti If any of you are into desert liqueurs, you HAVE to try Nocello. It is a walnut liqueur and it is sooooo yummy. You can usually find it in more upscale Italian restaraunts, but I've resorted to ordering it online. Damn ... maybe I am an alcoholic .... |

I thought of some more last night, lol. I like the new Bacardi Silver when just lounging. Also, there is a Puerto Rican liquor called Pasoa (kinda hard to find in my neck of the woods, I am not sure about elsewhere)...it is the bomb! Ideal08, any drink made with 151 is lights out for me, lol. I will see everyone at the meeting next week, lol. Hello, my name is Librasoul and... :D |
I tasted some red wine and it was gross! That must be an acquired taste that you have to have. It looks like a dark fruit punch so, I thought that it would be good. I probably should just stick to some kind of wine cooler.
|
You have hit many of my favorites already.
Cosmos (I like them with Skyy Citrus) French martinis long islands Vodka and Cran A new fav is Rasberry stoli and Sprite (yum!) (I overheard someone order one inHoustons and after that I was hooked!) Midori Sours Madras (vodka, orange juice and cranberry juice) That's pretty good for starters... (and no, I am NOT an alcoholic!) |
OK....I'm definately going to be in the minority here...
I don't like HARD liquor at all...probably because of some really bad drinking experiences in college. So, I don't really do mixed drinks at all. I'm an avid wine drinker. I used to work for an australian wine company, so I have acquired a pallet for nice full-bodied red wines (Shiraz, Cab/Shiraz blends, merlot, cab). I also LOVE good champagne. I don't get down with any cheap stuff either, so if I can't have the good stuff, I'd rather do without. Red wine really is an acquired taste, but if you have a well-trained nose and pallet and can pair wines with your foods, you'll be hooked. I also like really good beers. I do like the taste of hard-to-find imported beers. |

1. So, when you mix the two mixtures together, you're mixing the Bacardi 151, the Skyy Vodka and the fruit? 2. How much alcohol/fruit do you use? Do you use this recipe to make a pitcher? 3. Is it eating the fruit that @#$%s you up or just letting it sit in the drink? I'm having a Tyson-Lewis fight party next week and I'd love to make this drink, thus all the badgering. |
Man, I am dealing with some SKILLED drinker up in here! :D Although I am only a "social" drinker ;) , I know a good drink when I taste one.
My list of favorites are: 1. Midori Sours 2. Cosmos 3. Parrot Bay and Hawaiian Punch 4. Hurricanes 5. 190 Octane 6. Bacardi Limon and Sunny Delight 7. Mudslides 8. Most flavors of daquiri 9. Let's see. When I'm at a party and I just want to get my chill on it's Sex On The Beach. When I want to get a quick buzz (in my best Nikki Parker's voice) it's Alize'. Although the last time I sipped Alize' (sipped=chuggalugged), it did quite a number on me. I haven't had any since.
Side Bar - definitely not an alcoholic, I just have a VERY low tolerance for alcohol. |
They sell Faygo down here, too.

New Cosmo formulation
This New York Times article introduces people to blood orange Cosmopolitans and other variations. Shoot, I've made a cosmopolitan w/Charbay blood orange vodka and Meyer lemon vodka. Yumm.
June 2, 2002 Curing the Cosmo Blues With a Brand New Twist By JESSE McKINLEY et's face it: the cosmopolitan is overexposed. Ever since the four socialites of "Sex and the City" began swilling that pink combination of vodka, cranberry juice and Triple Sec, it seems you can't walk from the bar to the bathroom without tripping over some cosmo-happy drinker clutching a sticky martini glass. Cosmos are everywhere: city bars do them; country bars do them. Even Irish bars do them. But good bartenders never give up on a drink. The cosmo's plight was exquisitely felt by George Angelet, who tended bar around the city for eight years before becoming an owner at Sugar, a low-key haunt on Church Street in TriBeCa that draws single women in their 20's and the men who ogle them. "It is the most frustrating drink in the world to make because everybody, all night, everywhere wants one," Mr. Angelet said. "It's just like, `Oh my God, not another one.' " So agitated was Mr. Angelet that he made it his mission to find "other cocktails to compete with it." He failed. "You can't stop it," he said. "So eventually I just said, `If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.' " His investigations turned instead to finding variations on the cosmo theme. Last year, he introduced a blood orange cosmo at Sugar, using orange purée instead of Triple Sec. It was good, he said, but still he felt there was something else out there. And then he found it. Right there on Aisle 12 at the local Key Food: White Cranberry Juice. Introduced last fall by Ocean Spray, the juice is made with cranberries that are harvested early, hence the lighter color. Experts are divided as to the juice's prospects; www.bevnet.com, a Web site devoted to all things beverage, called it "perhaps the most bland juice known to man." Where some juice-o-philes saw opportunity missed, Mr. Angelet saw merely opportunity. Replacing the tart red cranberry juice with the slightly sweeter white juice, he created a new breed of cosmo, a cosmo without Triple Sec or heavy exposure on HBO. The result is a remarkably clear-tasting, slightly sweet cocktail, with a palate-cleansing sensation almost akin to that of a vitamin water. Mr. Angelet garnishes the white cosmo with an edible orchid, which tastes very much as if you're eating a flower. As with a pink cosmo, the taste of alcohol in a white cosmo is almost imperceptible. Mr. Angelet introduced the drink last month at Sugar, where bartenders have been encouraging patrons to try it. He said he felt the world was ready for the white cosmo. "Fashion trends show that white is very in," he said. He also said he intends to try to contact the producers of "Sex and the City" to see if he can get his variation on the show. "I think it's something the girls would go for," Mr. Angelet said. Great. Then he'll just have to invent something else. |
