Mystic Tan
Has anyone tried Mystic Tan? I am not going to try it before my wedding for fear that I will look strange, but I am just curious as to how it looks.
|
Is mystic tan some type of rub on tanning lotion? Make sure you try way before the wedding day . . .
Also, tanning bed is probably your best bet, just make sure you go to at least 8 sesions sufficiently spaced not to burn so start maybe 3 weeks out. Also, don't tan for three days before the day of the event. That way your tan looks more settled and less red. |
I said that I will NOT try it for the wedding... I don't want to look tan then!
I just wanted to know if it works. It is a spray on thing that is done at salons, like a carwash, except it's for people and it sprays tanning stuff. BTW: I do not tan and would never use a tanning "coffin". My parents both have had skin cancer removed from their bodies. |
I know someone who has done it...
It's like you stand in a stand up bed with now lights. This machine sprays you with a solution that almost instantly darkens your skin. The guy that did it paid much more for this sort of tan, yet said it lasted longer (plus you don't have to worry about UV rays and working up to a great tan). He said they recommended only a few sessions in two weeks until you reach your desired tan...and then you can varry it after that. He said the lady recommended not showering more than once a day for a longer lasting tan...but he seemed to like it. I don't know him WELL so I don't know what he looked like before, but he seemed to have some color in him when he talked about it. I say go to a tanning salon and ask! Can't hurt to do some research, and more than likely someone there uses it so you can see upfront the results. BTW- I just bought a month ago the coppertone sunless tanner and disliked it. You have to stand there naked forever and then I still smelled. I was sorta streaky still because it's that damn lotion and you can't totally tell where you got. Now there was another product off of America's Store I was tempted to buy. It's similar to that Mystic Tan, but in a bottle. They provide you with an exfoliant and then a pair of gloves (whew) and it instantly turns you tan. I saw the product tested on tv and it wasn't orange and she put it on right there as she was talking and then you could see the difference right away. What was nice was you can SEE where you didn't get covered. But, I'd still be hesitant on any sunless tanners if you have to shave. Hootie |
If you wanna pick a great sunless tanner, I think Estee Lauder has a great one.

I'm thinking about getting a Mystic Tan...anyone else here had this done??
|
I did it this summer finally! It is a weird experience that's for sure. It all happens so quickly and whatever you do, HOLD YOUR BREATH. If you inhale the stuff it stinks and makes ya cough.
Overall I was semi-impressed with the results. The place that I went to made sure after I tanned that my feet and toes and hands looked okay. They helped me remove some of the excess and then reapplied to some of the areas I missed. The only down fall (well two downfalls) is a) you cannot shower for like 10 hours. So I recommend going in very early in the day. b) it doesn't last as long as it should and I found some areas to go white faster...like the backs of my legs for instance and my bra area (cuz that's restrictive clothing that rubs all the time). I did go back a few days after because I wanted to be darker...but that's when I thought I got sorta blotched. I dunno. It's a VERY nice result as far as something instant...and I didn't have to burn myself to look tan for once :) |
I just got it done. Looks good so far. I'll let you know how it looks in the morning. :)
|
I did Mystic tan and wasn't so thrilled with the results.
I went straight to phase 2 and it looked good for the first two days...but it rubbed off on my clothes! (and I wear white a lot) So, honestly, I think you should just go and get Banana Boat or Coppertone. |
Too late, I already did it. :)

Some of my sisters got that done at a tanning salon. They loved it.

I'm getting it done this week, not sure when. I'm in a wedding next weekend (my sorority big sis), and its a halter style dress and semibackless, so i need some color and not have the farmers tan. I'll let u know how it goes. :)
|
I LOVE IT!!!! I think it looks awesome!!!! :D
|
I'm too scared to ever try Mystic Tan. I use the banana boat sunless tanner though and it works SOOOOO well. As long as you buy a self tanner that is GREEN/OLIVE based and not orange based you will look fine. You can usually find green/olive based ones at salons, but the banana boat one is olive based and it's pretty cheap too. :D

my friend works in a salon (like a hair makeup facial massage place, upscale) and she does this herself, but it is more like airbrushing, same type o fproduct but she only does one part of your body at a time- like the bottom of your legs, then the thighs, then your back, then your front, and your face and neck and stuff, and since you can instantly see it, she can make sure you don't blotch... i stood naked (keep in mind I have known her since i was 5) and let it try for 10 minutes, got home and changed into some pajamas and went to bed for the night... it didn't wear off over night, or come off in the shower- it last about 4 or 5 days and she told me that if you do it ona regular basis yourskin absorbs it better so it lasts longer and looks even better. i may get it done, since she only charges me what it costs- like $8!!!
|
It still looks good! :D
|
was it expensive?

spray tans
We have a spray tan beauty salon here in TN that is wonderful. Tans cost $18 and last around 2 weeks. I am so pale that one tan makes me very dark. :)

I have a freind of mine who sprays me. She bought the whole kit for about 1000$. I just strip bare for her and she sprays me, in the shower of course. It turns me 4 shades darker and lasts for 2-3 weeks. The solution is clear. The only thing, she can't spray the bottom of my hands. For some reason is won't stay there.
|
I bought one and I get one free. Total cost was $25.00. :)
|
Yeah I spent $45 for 3 tans  It's crazy expensive...but it does give you faster results, painless results, and longer coverage so I suppose it's worth it ;)

Did anyone see Friends tonight with Ross and his experience with MysticTan? All I could do was crack up and think that would probably happen to me if I went! :D

But how does it work on your face? The two scariest things to me are (a) orangeness, which you've aleviated! and (b) streakiness. |
The way it works is that you put this stuff on your feet and palms of hands and fingers. You go into the booth, and in a matter of a minute, do four different poses to get every inch of your body. When you are done you will be dark brown...but you can't just go out like that. So instead you are told to take a towel and buff all over your body. You should rub the stuff in...get into your ears, between your fingers, get it outta your belly button...etc. Then in that first 10 hours the stuff sets in. Once you take a shower you won't be as brown (tan I should say) but you WILL NOT be orange.
Then to get that darker tan look you can go again in a few days. Right after I went I was told I looked great...and that was BEFORE I had showered! |

That was so funny. I'm too scared to get it done for fear that I'll come out looking orange. Real tans (not fake n bake) from the sun look the best. But, it causes all sorts of problems (wrinkles, dry skin, pimples, cancer). |
Trust me, I have every horror story about self tanners that there is out there to tell, and I LOVE mystic tan!! I go all the time and am complimented on how the color is, etc. I will even keep on one of my tennis bracelets to make it look like a tan line and it does--lol.
I think that with any product, your skin type and composition affects how a self tanner will "keep" or "wear". Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate before you go--that is for sure! |

This is kinda random... but I was just at the doctor's office and was thumbing through 17 Magazine... it had a story about Paris Hilton and she uses Mystic Tan-- it reminded me of this thread.
|
I love Paris.
-Rudey --The Hilton, not the frog city. |
I'm so glad to hear such good results from you all about the tanning. My friend had it done, but she went to a salon, got nakey, and the woman used an atomizer type deal to spray each part. She said the "boobage" part was a little weird, but other than that it went great.
I am snow white - I have enough Irish in me to burn before I could ever think of tanning -- so I may have to give this a shot! Thanks for the advice! |
I live in Miami and I can tell you im the whitest person i know...i am so pale that when im stressed or have a headache my blue veins (they arent veins really..the blue ones are capillaries right?) anyways they show through really bright blue...
so last weekend i decided to take advantage of this great miami weather we are having and go to the beach...yeah that worked.. i got BURNT RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it wore off a lil so now im looking nicely brown...have been laying on the mostrurizer though cause i am peeling a lil... but other than that... i think the real sun is better than the fake stuff... OHHHH and PS. the minute i read this thread i thought of ross and that episode of friends too :) LOL |
i've had it done 2 times now. 1st time was last week, 2nd time was on tuesday and i'm going today. the 1st time i said about 1-2 shade difference, and that's alot considering i'm blinding white. The 2nd time, i saw a bigger diference. It would be cool if i could get the inhome ones. The only bad part is it's pricey, mine was 3 for $59.99. I only did it was for the wedding, so I'm not gonna be keeping it up. Overall a good experience. :)

Time to go get my free Mystic Tan. :)
|
I did this back in the last week of october i guess it was........I didnt like it......I couldnt tell it had done anything by way of tanning, i accidentally inhaled some of it during the spraying part :( and it rubbed off on my clothes.....so if that's the kind of effect it's going to have on my skin, then i'll be saving my 15 bucks i think.
